Image on top shows the silhoutte of the current Sony A77.
The following rumor has been shared by trusted sources:
The next A-mount camera to be released by Sony is the new “A77II”. Announcement in late Spring and in Store this Summer. The new A77II is trimmed for speed and that will be also the main selling point of this camera. The AF will be even faster than the world’s fastest AF camera that has been just released by Sony, the A6000. I am working as good as I can to get the camera specs but the chances are also very high that this will use a much improved SLT tech. Cannot confirm yet if the mirror can be locked up like we saw on a 2013 Sony patent.
Anyway, the important thing we know now is that after over one year of no A-mount camera announcement (last was the A58 in February) we will finally get a new A-mount camera! And trust me, more will come soon after the A77 successor announcement 😉
Special note to sources: In these weeks I am getting lot of info from anonymous sources too. I wanted to thank them all and as usual I ask them to be patient. I always try to double or triple check rumors before to post them on SAR. Sometimes this takes weeks. Thanks!

Mirror lock-up! This is the way to go. Provide compatibility and phase-detect AF for legacy lenses and improve OSPDAF for modern designs. A-Mount might not be dead after all.
I thought I remembered some time ago part of the design that made the mirror ghost less and lose less light in the A65/77 generation and thereafter is that the lens isn’t at 45deg anymore but a slightly larger angle (vs. sensor normal vector), making it slightly too long to swing up in the flange to sensor distance? It can be removed but not hinged out of the way without hitting the flange?
meant “translucent mirror isn’t at 45deg…”, not lens. too little coffee this morning, sorry…
That wouldn’t necessarily preclude some sort of double-hinged design, i.e. allowing the mirror to move backward enough to swing up, or possibly allowing it to travel forward while dropping down, so the mirror could be stowed under the lens mount, would it?
I hope that the A77II has a new processor that will finally develop better noise at high ISO
It will. Some sort of selective noise reduction with more in the shadow areas where it is most needed and less in the highlights where it is not.
To be honest I’d settle for the same level of noise given its a 32mp sensor. The new algorithms in dxo are great for high iso work
Wow, that was quite a wait for a version II. So, pretty much like the A99, combination of OSPDAF and SLT I guess.
I like the Mark II designation, hope they announce new lenses too
I JUST LOL’ed AT THE NEW NAMING CONVENTION!
A77 II makes good sense, in line with the RX100 II and the designation for newer version of lenses.. Now all Sony has to do is stick to this naming convention.
It sounds like a Rocky movie.
What is te main purpose of this mirror lock up ?? thanks
In case you use manual focus, the SLT mirror has no function but is still decreasing the amount of light to the sensor. So you can move it out of the way for better low light performance.
If sony tried hard enough we can get a camera called Sony Alpha 69XXX
Woo hoo – thanks Andrea! Really looking forward to seeing the specs. Is the af improvement likely to translate to 3rd party lenses?
I have no info about that 🙁
Really hope it works with my sigma 35/1.4 and beercan…
Sigma usually offers upgrades down the road for current owners but it’s not on Sony to offer that degree of compatibility: that’s Sigma’s deal. They’ll likely have something going if it doesn’t just work out of the box.
The high speed auto focus that currently only works on a few special lenses is going to be improved to work on most lenses including. 75% of 3rd party kenses.
Tamron and Sigma are among the 3rd partys that will be fully sopported.
What I do not know is whether this improvement will occur on this camera or a future camera.
Since the AF-D mode in the A99 required the camera to know more about the lens optics to define what is in focus at different places across the field, how will they obtain this info for 3rd party lenses, testing themselves? Have 3rd party licensees do it? (And if the latter, where’s that leave Sigma who reportedly reverse-engineers vs. licensing?)
I’ve often wondered if a user-calibration could also be done perhaps, where it has you manually focus in zones across the display and confirm, sort of like calibrating positions on a touch digitizer with a stylus. Even if such functionality was only available ‘tethered’ to get written to camera memory it would let them crowdsource users to define AF maps for 3rd party lenses, like Lightroom lens profiles. (Yes, I know, I’m dreaming, but in the age of apps on point-n-shoot cameras it seems like the processing sophistication level is available, even if no one has implemented it this way yet.)
I do not know any more than what I said.
I was not told how they will do it.
I was at the UK Photography Show at the weekend and the (lone) Sony rep mentioned the a77 successor (but called it an a78). I also had a look at an a6000 brochure – it confirms the hybrid af only works in AF-C (or AF-A where it choose AF-C if the subject is moving) with a selection of lenses. It also appears that the digital spirit level has gone to keep costs down. The list of compatible lenses for hybrid is listed on the back page in very small print but includes several that aren’t current supported on the NEX 6 – from memory, all the FE lenses will be compatible, the 20mm pancake and the new 18-105 – presumably these will be supported by the camera firmware once launched but they may be anticipating camera or lens firmware updates. Finally, the brochure mentioned a few apps including a Star Trails app (listed as coming soon).
Getting rid of the digital level is a horrible idea, IMO. I find that feature in both my a55 and a99 invaluable, especially with high distortion (fisheye) lenses. Also extremely useful to assist setup for manually-stitched panoramics (test tripod level by panning before taking the shots, especially in portrait orientation where you don’t have as much horizontal baseline per-shot to compare to just a grid).
Can anyone confirm the removal of the spirit level in the A6000? I use this all the time on my 5R.
Let’s see how long it takes for AnimalsByBarry to scream why oh why there is no info on the 300Mpx or wahtever number sensor that this camera is “supposed” to have LOL!!!! P.S.: Barry, don’t get angry as actually, I mostly agree agree with you on wanting a super duper megapixel sensor on the next cameras! The only thing I don’t agree with you is on the actual usefulness of such sensor. I think it will shine for macro, while you think it will shine on super telephoto cropping. I think that with all the atmospheric/haze elements interfering between the lens and that BIF far far away will just be exacerbated on such a sensor. Just my opinion though, but I do cheer for you on hoping you get the camera of your dreams 🙂
This camera 32mp
24 and 36mp ff to come
54mp stacked sensor in early to mid 2015..this will be available by sony to other manufacturers too. 18mp x 3 layers.
Canon has had since 2010 a 120mp cmos H size 29x20mm with 9.5 frames per second to be released when the Sony comes out or shortly after.
Back to this new camera……
New processor on this camera will allow selective noise reduction..more in the shadows therefore a greater portion of the available iso range will be of usable quality. Better low light performance.
Also 20% mirror..therefore 10% more light will reach the sensor.
The price of this camera will be very attractive too.
I heard a specific price that is possibly incorrect because it was very economical so I will join everyone else and wait to see.
“A sony manager just actually called me to share this info so it is sr5”.
“A79..will be 32mp”.
“Big announcement in next couple of weeks..a lot of this info will be released then”.
You posted that nearly two weeks ago, so the announcement should be any day now, right?
more important than quicker AF speed is having NO more EVF lag !
there will be no lag! So I have been told.
And no image buffer during high frame rate shooting??
tethered please…..
A77 II doesn’t sound like its improvements can come up in marketing. Means, the main specs will be the same, only minor under-the-hood improvements (faster AF, maybe better EVF, faster processing etc.pp.). Otherwise they’d name it A78 or something.
Well … I’m fine with it. Don’t need to buy a new DSLR every couple of months. I used my Dynax 7D for ~7 years.
Who knows whats up with Sony naming conventions ? It could be a minor difference or I am willing to wager its a huge difference. Something like the difference between 5d and 5d mk II or 5d mk II to 5d mk III
Totally, the canon 5dII was really lame compared to the original 5d….
So we take the current a77 and add faster autofocus, better EVF, faster processor, larger buffer, new sensor and less restrictive mirror along with better high ISO performance. To me this sounds like a killer camera, what more could you possibly want?
if slt then goodbey sony hello nikon
It’s going to be SLT, it has to be for fast AF tracking compatibility with all lenses, not just the ones Sony can be bothered supporting.
If a third-half stop of light gain is THAT important to you, then you should have been using Nikon for years, so swap now.
Not to mention the a77II naming convention hints at SLT. Wouldn’t expect huge design change like mirrorless with a name like that.
The new sensor’s are two or three generations newer than the A77’s. The new sensor is probably at least a 1/3 stop more light sensitive.
Nikon? Out of the question even if Sony’s next release is a pinhole. I’d rather buy old Sony or Fuji.
If you want to stay with legacy Technology with flippy mirrors… byebye 🙂
Sounds more like a working-title to me.
One trusted source named it “A77II”. If that’s not just a working name I am happy. I am tired of having so many different namen. RX100 and RX100II is also fine for me for example. Makes it more clear that they are of the same line.
+1000
I would very nuch like names that make sense and describe the camera.
Although calling this A77II does not actually change the naming convention it does not make it worse.
Wondering about its price. 🙂
me too 🙂
Too much as usual…
This will be a very reasonably priced camera.
Reasonably priced is a very broad term.
The price I heard is so low that I would rather wait and see than repeat it in case it is wrong.
In other words rather wait for A77II than buy the A77 now…?
Thats what I would do
@Barry will it use the same battery grip? I really don’t want to buy a new one.
No battery info
The A77 price is going to drop significantly when the A77II launches. You might be able to pick up the original for a really sweet deal.
Get another call from Sony who may or may not be an executive and/or product manager and/or engineer? LOL
I doubt that. Sony normally screws us for the first year.
This is the question, and this is what can’t give me a decision if to go A77 now or not. The body of A77 costs 800€, and is a good camera, no doubt there. My kid is coming late July, so I want a camera until then. The A77II is a bit risky, since it’s said to come out in “summer”, which can be August too. But buying A77 now for 800€, only so that A77II costs 800€ on 1st of July is just poo. If only one could have reliable information at what the cost will be…
1K for a semi-pro APS-C is the norm,
Reasonably priced within the context of the IQ, features, specs and build versus the competition’s offerings in-line with IQ, specs, etc.
So if the competition makes camera bodies with IQ & specs equal to or less than that of this new camera and the new camera has a price less than or equal to those bodies it will be reasonably priced.
The way these new cameras are being priced, it feels like there is new tech around the corner is going to blow everything out of the water.
Correct..2015
“Announcement in late Spring and in Store this Summer.”
So no March/April announcement?
No April announcement for the A77II. But there will be a a new 4K camera announcement in 3 weeks!!!
hmmm, Late spring is much later than I hoped for 🙁
Have to think keep with A or change to FE ehh 🙂
Thanks Admin for the valuable info.
Admin: Has there been any FW updates for the A77? If there are none and the A77II is imminent would this be the trend from Sony? ie., buy a new camera model and throw away the old one?
Also, any news about flashes?
Have no info about a new A77 fw. I still hope that SAR community can influence Sony a tiny bit. I like Sony to learn from Fuji’s support work.
You’re new to Sony, aren’t you 😀
Put up with the bugs in your A77, it isn’t going to be fixed.
LOL. I would go with the spirit (or the hope) of the Admin. Sony learning a thing or two from Fuji when it comes to FW updates. 😉
Do you honestly care what it is named as long as it’s available before the fall?
ok SR5 just for the Next A-mount name
If you read the rets of the article it says also:
1) In Store this summer
2) Late Spring announcement
SR5 for last year saying A-mount camera will be announce/release at january/feb. It will be release this year SR6
Alan, you may have problems with reading rumors 🙂
Here is the article: http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/a-mount-showdown-between-february-and-april/
and here:
http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr4-new-a-mount-cameras-coming-in-q1-and-asking-for-help-from-trusted-sources/
They do not refer to the A77II!!!!!
This is a 4K hybrid mount camera. Coming in three weeks from now!
One of the article:
FF A-mount:
At least two new FF cameras are expected to be launched in 2014. And the first one is coming very early 2014 (January-February). Also in that case I am waiting some time to get multiple confirmation about the specs. High megapixel sensor, mirrorless tech, on sensor PDAF, and much improved EVF are the key features of those new cameras.
I read almost every post and comment so there is a period keep mention january-feb.But why care? i just saying it..even SR4 news can change to sr1 before in 20min. All are rumour anyway, anything can be out of predict/ receive fake news.
First camera coming in March. Well one month later than February 😉
I hope to post some info about the 4K cam this week.
Anyway good work admin, keep it up!
thanks!
I really only have one question. Will AF performance be crippled with my legacy lenses? If not, I will be a very happy camper and will probably stay with the A mount for a long, long time. I’m happy with the A77 for now so I might wait on the 77ii and see what the next FF body is like. But the future is exciting!
I wouldn’t worry about it. Sony is going to continue to support all legacy glass.
They didn’t with the A99 and more recently with the A6000. In both cases the best AF performance only works with certain recent lenses…
Well your current lenses might not be able to use some of the new features, but does it really matter?. Are you even going to notice? My Minolta 80-200mm f/2/8 (original), 28-70mm f/2.8, 85mm f/1.4, and 35mm f/1.4 are churning out excellent photos on the A99, and they’re 20 to 25 years old.
It does, when buying the new camera for a steep price. You want all features to work.
I have a 37 year old car with a beautiful old 2-speaker stereo. If I install that stereo in my newer car with 6 speakers, I don’t expect to get 6 speakers of sound. But it will still give me 2 speakers like I remember. That’s what legacy support is. My entire lens collection is Minolta. At first I was disappointed I couldn’t take advantage of OSPDAF, but then I realized my lenses work as well as they always did, and if I buy a newer one at some point I’ll have even more functionality. I think at some point you have to face the fact that those lenses are limited by their screw-drive motors and lack of electronics. They’ve reached the limits of what they can be pushed to, and expecting Sony to try to extract more out of them is going to hold them back from making tech advancements. As long as they continue to support their existing AF capabilities, I’m happy with that.
For me, it’s not as much about legacy lenses, as much as new 3rd party lenses, like those new amazing Sigma Art glass.
Although I can understand Sony’s desire to make us all buy only Sony lenses.
Profit
If Sony was 100% backward compatible we’d all be using film still. If your invested heavily in legacy glass then you’ll miss out on new features, but for day to day photography most of the A99’s advanced features aren’t necessary.
Because owners of legacy glass know the limitations of these lenses. They still produce excellent pictures regardless of the new sales gimmicks. New features do not degrade the capabilities of legacy glass.
I keep Legacy Minolta lenses because, they have richer colours, and really bring out skintones.
+1 on the colors and skintones. Minolta really had that nailed down.
If Sony sold an updated 85mm f/1.4 (D) G-Seires, or 28-70mm f/2.8 G-Series I’d by them in a heartbeat.
So if you buy a 2014 model car and you have 25-year old tires on it, you would expect it to corner and accelerate and stop as good as the same car with new tires? Come on, be realistic. If you want everything to work, but the new technology – both bodies and lenses.
Besides legacy lenses, there’re brand-new 3rd party lenses, like those great Sigma Art glass.
They are supporting legacy glass. Some features are reserved for the newer lenses. Why is this surprising? The old glass still works. You can’t expect full compatibility with lenses from twenty to twenty five years ago.
Why should they cripple AF Performance with some lenses? Doesn’t make any sense. Of course they will not magically be faster than what their motors or the in-Body motor with the mechanics of the lenses allow ;)…
The big question is, if the OSDPAF will work with Minolta, Tamron, Sigma and older Sony lenses. It doesn’t in A99.
:-/ I need a replacement for my A55… but I can only see E-Mount, E-Mount, E-Mount 🙁 Release of A77II in summer 🙁 Sony is to slow with good new A-Mount Cameras! A99 successor in October? November? December? To late… welcome Nikon D800, sorry Sony!
Use your a55 until this one comes
I love my A55 (handling, EVF, etc.) I will proceed with FF-Body and A7R / A99 is no Option. A7r = to small, slow AF and E-Mount, A99 = slow AF and low light performance is not good enough. So what should I do?
Save. The A99II is being launched this year.
Sure? I think Sony should puplish a clear roadmap!
If they put out the A-Mount roadmap, they’ll lose potential NEX/A7 sales. They want us to buy into both systems.
An tip off the competition as to their strategic plans, not a good idea.
A99 = slow AF?
eeeh yes?!?
It’s not.
Have you personally used the a99 with the 70-400 SSM G II? Get back to us with your autofocus impressions.
It seeks in low contrast / low light, but the speed of the a99 isn’t really a problem. The problem is the AF coverage – it is clustered all in the very center of the frame.
Save your money and wait a year or two, your A55 is still plenty capable.
I’d pick-up an A7, and SAL f/2.8 16-50mm while they’re on sale, because I’m betting the new model is going to be pricey.
If you can switch systems so cavalierly I can but assume you have little system invested into the a-mount. So maybe this makes sense.
At $2,800 on Amazon and only boasting a 4-star rating, I’ll pass on the Nikon d800 ( http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-D800-FX-Format-Digital-Camera/dp/B0076AYNXM ) and wait for better from Sony because I know it’s coming. The a7R proves Sony can match the studio-focused d800 in IQ. The a6000 (and a77II rumors) prove Sony can leave the d800’s mediocre AF in the dust. Putting both together and you have a potentially compelling package for a-mount fans.
Sure, waiting sucks. Sucks a lot. If you *need* a new camera now obviously get what’s best on the shelves for you today. However, I expect by year’s end any shiny new Nikon d800 will be clearly leapfrogged by Sony a-mounts. The big question is will the a77II do it cheaper or, more likely, do you have to wait for the rumored a-mount FF? Price-wise, we don’t have any solid information but I think it’s safe to say any a77II will be much cheaper than a D800 and any Sony FF needs to be price competitive with Canikon FFs.
I knew it. E-mount is dead. 🙂
lol 🙂
Unfortunately @Martin the E-Mount is going to be around for a long time. Although they’re getting hammered by the current crop of sub-$500 DSLRs.
Maybe Sony should get in on the act, and sell a sub $400.00 model. Call it the A44II, strip out the AF Motor, translucent mirror, and IBIS. Sell it with a cheap kit lens.
I really prefer a translucent LENS !! Ive seen the socalled leak-photos done through plastic body covers and its not really good for generally photos..
Stripping IBIS would fragment the a-mount line (selling a-mount lenses without OS is dependent on IBIS) and the savings would be nominal given the r&d is going to be spent anyway.
“Unfortunately”!?
I’m being sarcastic. I just bought the A7r just for the 55mm f/1.8. Money well spent.
Ooooohhhh Noooooooooo………..
Love your user name. Made me laugh anyway.
Hope for a firmware update on our A77’s but this is a few of my ‘wish list’ idea’s for the new A77II (some are just very simply firmware tweaks I hope Sony consider looking at):
– Change screen brightness quickly by long press display button (as with other older Sony cameras)
– Change flash exposure setting quickly by long pressing the +/- exposure button.
– “preview” setting for the image to only auto preview IF your eye is removed from the EVF and only on the back screen for x amount of seconds then the screen will go off and not be used/powered to save battery and remove the need to have it turned inwards most of the time to help save battery.
– 2 levels of preview zoom, eg, if default zoom is 100% a 50% zoom first would be good then press again to get 100% zoom.
– Zoom in/out and zoom scrolling needs to be faster and more responsive.
– Fix flash consistency issues
– Faster switching between LCD and EVF
– display both videos and photos in display mode (together)
– 720p and 4K video modes
– Let users specify set PAL or NTSC mode
– Improved video quality and low light performance
– Tether support
– Wifi support
– Enhanced Tether support such as: remote live view, full access to all camera settings and changes, Native Adobe Lightroom support (release open standards for developers to use)..etc..etc..
– Customizable “?” button
– Improved start-up and shutdown times
– In general improved reaction/response times with camera operations and changes
– Higher ISO limit in video mode
– Improved buffer handling and faster flushing of cache to memory, it seems even with the slower fps’s settings the A77 does not cope as well as it perhaps could?
– Ability to save camera serial number in EXIF (if a user chooses to enable the option)
– Timelapse photo mode (eg, app support)
– GPS (Keep the GPS do NOT get rid of it, I have not purchased a NEX only due to it missing the GPS feature yet my other Sony point and shoots have GPS!)
– Better kit lens quality (I’ve had two 16-50 lenses become VERY stiff over time!)
– Improved battery life when using rear LCD
– Faster refresh rate and higher resolution/quality EVF
– More accurate LCD and EVF colours/brightness (often when reviewing images on the camera they don’t look right, eg, too dark but on PC they are fine!)
– Slightly smaller body than A77 but little larger than A65 (Personal preference)
– Reduced A77II pricing especially for existing A77 owners (eg, upgrade promotion from Sony?)
It looks like you’ve out grown your A77. Maybe you should be looking to buy a $2000.00 camera where most of these features are (or will be) the norm.
I’d definitely be interested in an ff body priced between the a77 and the a99…
Maybe they could design a new 28-75mm f/2.8, with weather sealing, SSM II, better wide open, and corner performance to go with it.
I guess I have, although many of the features are already ‘standard’ with a range of other camera’s (some Sony ones as well)… many are just firmware related and could be implemented via an update other of cause would need to be improved hopefully by this next generational camera… I also have an A99 and to be honest even it could do with some of the features above (some of cause it already has!)… and the A99 cost over $2000 and I don’t plan to upgrade the full frame until the next ‘jump’ so hoping this new A77II might have many of the features above..
So much…. you have to wait for A99 2
I want:
– Slot: Record in 2 cards.
– Crop video like a new D4
– Iso perfect in 3200 without noise.
Just this i will grateful
“Perfect” ISO 3200 with aps-c pixel density? How do you define perfect?
A6000 will be good… D700 or similar, i forgot some nikon aps….
Its not pixel density that affects ISO. Its the total sensor area.
Compare A700 A55 A77
vs
A900 A99/A7 A7r
You will notice that primarily, its the sensor generation that is at play here, while A7 vs A7r clearly shows that pixel density does not negatively affect ISO.
Well I vana toilet made out of solid gold, but it’s just not in the cards now is it?
-Austin Powers.
I’ll add that you should be able to change settings in automatic mode, a la a700. Best feature ever. Program shift should be there too.
Yes forgot second SD slot on the list above… love this feature on the A99 and old A700, Sony does some funny things by removing support from new camera’s that was included and standard in competitors and previous gen camera’s as well (eg, second memory card slot and tether support… ) Good to have Tether support on the A99 but still not native Lightroom support and Sony need to improve things allot to get there camera’s used more in studio’s I think… they have VERY good image quality but do suffer with higher ISO’s (which is generally not an issue for studio work)
a77 was the best looking SLR type camera ever
I agree. Its my favourite A-Mount camera. Sony should really launch an A77 model with a FF sensor. They could call it the A88.
The a77 and a99 are nearly identical (as the confusion above attests), the latter is just a bit larger (presumably for the larger sensor) and has the MI shoe. I agree a budget friendlier a88 model was lacking from the 1st gen SLT line-up. Hopefully this time around…
I am pretty sure the picture above Shows an A99 not an A77. The curves, the missing popup flash…
Just sayin… ;)…
Nope. It’s an A77
You can see the popup-flash on its left side and the a99 had a different hotshoe, this is definitively an a77
It’s an A99… orange ring… the grill of the mic…
The A77 has an orange ring too and the A99 “Alpha” logo is white:
http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/gadgetlab/2011/08/SLT-A77_front.jpg
Fuck! You’re right! I was way out… Minolta hotshoe… 😀 I should have been more cautious… 😀
P.S.
It’s called “target fixation”: saw the orange and went bananas. LMFAO!!!
Ah, yeah, the hotshoe is definitely the Minolta one, you are right. Somehow I still think it looks in many ways like a A99, maybe that is a concept picture of an earlier A99 ;)?
I own both, and the one pictured is the A77. The A99 microphone’s grill is completely different, the control knobs are larger.
Admin: SInce the A77II will probably not feature 4K support, can we surmise that later in the year, A and E mount cameras (not including the hybrid mount camera) will go to market with 4k video support (and more advanced processing, codecs, at higher prices)? The A6000 is compelling and the A77II could be as well. Looks like it’s going to be an interesting year for Sony shooters (especially as the year marches on).
We don’t know if it will support 4K until the camera is actually announced, and/or launched. Until then all information surrounding the A77II is pure speculation or rumour. My best guess is that the A77II will support 4K, because Sony is pushing it heavily these days.
I actually think that like the A6000, we will be seeing the last of the 1080P cameras with the A77II replacement, especially if the price will be a good surprise, as Barry implies. This isn’t bad. I think the hybrid camera and the coming A and E mount cameras with more powerful processors and newer sensor technology (and newer focusing mechanism) will come later, towards Photokina. There is no compelling move to go to 4K. The GH4 isn’t shipping yet. Canon and Nikon’s offerings aren’t on the market. Get it right, then sell it right.
4k would be nice, but heck, I’d settle for working 1080p. Not the craptastic 720p-quality footage from existing Sony models.
Focussing on speed implies that the sensor will likely be 24MP “only” – I’d be fine with that.
Question is whether Sony supports the speed with a little bit bigger buffer and UHS-II support.
latest!
SAR_Admin: While you are double- and triple checking rumors, why don’t you post them as SR2? Isn’t that the purpose for that designation?
+10000 Plus we get rumors for august and nothing for a camera suppose to come in 3 weeks… It is really hard to understand what is happening. 4K camera in 3 weeks. But only video ? Or a FF based on A99 with same type of spec, or something completely different … ? Would be nice to get a news with all the rumors of what is supposed to come and when, and with all the level of confidence (SR1,SR5…) you have for each spec…
When the admin double and triple checks rumors, it’s most likely because he’s receiving conflicting rumors from different sources. Which one do you post with SR2? Both? If he does that, the first thing people do is complain that the admin doesn’t know anything and is just making stuff up. People like to bring back SR1 and SR2 rumors after a product is announced to bash the admin.
Police detectives don’t interview suspects and tell them all of the information that the other suspect said. They interview them separately. One or both of them could be lying and their stories won’t match up. If you give one person information, like “Bob said that he was with you on that night.” then the other person could say, “Yeah! That’s it! I was with Bob.” And then you have two people agreeing and take that to be a fact when if you’d kept what the other suspect said secret, then you might get a different story and find that one or both of them are lying. That’s how detectives work, and that’s also how rumor sites should work if they want as much true information as possible.
YEAHOO! I can finally flatulent alll over the the flatusphere.
Sony blows. This A77II will NEVER materialize. Its a rumor and only a rumor.
This sounds simply fantastic. I absolutely can not wait. The a77 successor trimmed for speed? What’s that…Sony is listening to its consumers! Give me clean ISO up to 1600 (clean clean) and no EV lag…this is going to be stellar.
No, Thomas! “stellar” is already a Hasselblad…..LOL
Hi
A pull for changing the name into checked sonyrumors and facts or sonyalpharumorsfree?
I want rumors and gossip! Me want to bash! Me wanting innocent targets! I want …. A standard lens mount for every cam! Like the hole in the cars to full up with toxic liquid – no more a e x m2 n1 mounts – I want a world wide identical lens and flash mount – I like to rant and tell political phrases (aka nonsense)
We have carneval – and as the us constituion says I am free to speeeeeck what I want to say and I want you to support my opinion not yours!
i am Sir Gaga and feel gaga – wenhave carne wall!!! Enjoy the colours! Enjoy the bra’s around you! Enjoy life! Enjoy rumors! Enjoy
Exciting! Has Sony finally come up with a consistent naming strategy? Will consumers be able to tell more recent models from older ones? Will we still have 3/5/6/7/9 to indicate tiers, but now lengths to indicate classes (mirrorless/dSLT/etc), and ordered, numeric suffixes to indicate generations?
I would love that.
a33/a55/a77/a88/a99 for dSLT, followed by a37II/a58II/…
a3000/5000/7000/8000/9000 for mirrorless.
a300/500/700/800/900 for dSLR should they ever come back.
7, 8, and 9 are full-frame, and 5, 6, and 7 are APS.
I completely agree. This was the biggest shocker of this rumor! I’m suprised Sony would actually chose a naming strategy that made sense. Anyone who liked the a77 or gave it a consideration will know exactly what this one replaces.
The A77 with the SAL1650 is an exceptional APS-C DSLR camera. I’m going to be first inline for the MKII.
I sold my a77 and 16-50 a few weeks ago. I sort of regret it, but I went full frame and kept my a900 and zeiss. I’ve been building two systems, the alpha and a olympus system. I now need a full frame replacement for the a77. Should I sell the a900? Don’t know yet- if I new a new full frame would come out in two months I’d do it. I hate waiting…..
Keep the A900 as a back-up.
I would never sell my A850, because its a stellar performer. A definite keeper, even if you only use it a couple of times a year. Its build quality is exceptional. Its battery life is amazing.
Its a shame they never launched a A900 II.
I agree, Sony should keep producing SLR models. The character of the camera was very Minolta-like and the design was really impressive, especially the triangular pentaprism viewfinder. I do like A99’s viewfinder design, but I still miss the viewfinder design. I have A99, but I use A900 for shooting photos and use A99 as video making for most of the time.
Yes, just like BRWAT said, keep your A900. The optical viewfinder in that camera is bright and fantastic.
I’m confused why the Sony executive did not tell Barry it will be called the A77II.
LOTUS
YOU ARE SICK
STOP STALKING ME
I HAVE TRIED TO ELL YOU NICE BUT YOU ARE OBSESSED WITH ME.
Dan has expressed a desire to have a stalker so if you need to stalk someone stalk him
AGAIN I AM TOTALLY SERIOUS STOP STALKING ME
Barry, I am simply replying to your comments. I also reply to other people’s comments.
Are you really so narcissistic that you think you are important enough for me to want to stalk you? I’d suggest that maybe YOU are the sick one, as you appear to be having paranoid delusions.
If you make a lot of comments in a forum, be prepared for people to reply to them – if you don’t like that, then maybe you are in the wrong place. If you make claims within the comments system that some people may believe to be exaggerated or even false, then you should damn well be prepared to back them up! If you can’t stand the heat…
If you insist on us talking to each other than I have some suugestions to reduce the conflict.
First lets keep all comments about the issues and refrain from personal insults…
If you choose to challenge my views or those of other people please present your own alternative views..this seems only fair that if you choose to challenge the views of others you present your own ideas for other people to challenge.
As for your challenge of my current comments..they are based on a single conversation not an ongoing unlimited flow of info.
Sonys primary goal was to asure us of a solid A mount future , not to tell us everything..some things were said directly some were pieced together from hints.
I expect the bulk of what I have said to prove true but I do not expect 100% accuracy..these are rumors and this is a rumor sight..the anouncement I forecast will happen soon and I do not know how much will be revealed then and how much later.
I have shared the rumers I was fortunate enough to learn about despite the fact that some people will choose to pick apart every detail. I believe people visit this site for rumers.
Please do not expect me to know everything..I do not
“First lets keep all comments about the issues and refrain from personal insults…”
I can accept that Barry, but that would include you not calling me a stalker because I have chosen to reply to your post.
“If you choose to challenge my views or those of other people please present your own alternative views..this seems only fair that if you choose to challenge the views of others you present your own ideas for other people to challenge.”
Well, that depends if there is an alternative view to give. If I ask you to backup a claim or assertion, for example, then there isn’t necessarily a view I can give – I would be simply asking you for proof that something happened, and I can’t prove a negative.
If you post your own rumours on a rumour site, you can only expect to be challenged and asked for proof – people’s natural reaction is to be sceptical. One of your claims was for a “big announcement in next couple of weeks”, but that time is already close to passing, so I’m curious as to how genuinely senior the Sony representative you spoke to is, and how much information they are party to in reality.
I cannot move backward only forward.
Since you desire to respond to me and I have no desire to discourage you from speaking it is in everyones best interest to make our conversations more pleasant.
When I said we should refrain from personal insults I was including myself therefore I agree with your comment and I do plan to refrain from insulting you.
You guys are hilarious!
Lotus = Stalker Troll
That would make you King Troll.
Really, being accused of being a troll by one of the worst trolls on this board is not going to hurt my feelings. It appears you are unable to understand the concept that just because somebody posts things you don’t agree with, it doesn’t make them a troll.
Sorry, I fell asleep while reading your dreadfully boring post.
I meant to call you a “STALKER TROLL” which is the absolute lowest form of troll. I will edit my reply. You are harassing members of the forum with uninspiring posts that provide little in the way of logic or reason.
Barry Stalking is seriously not cool!!!
Lotus need to either get a life or seek therapy. Lotus is getting kind of creepy.
Why do you need two accounts?
LU CID is Lucy’s account, and she apparently set up her account completely wrong.
Any chance this one will have a clean HDMI output?
Admin .Is their any roumers regarding a new adaptor so the A6000 and A7 can focus the Alpha lenses without the Slt tec ???
I just pre-ordered the A77 II on the Sony Canada site today. Estimated stock is expected May 21st. We will soon find out if this is true!
