On top you can watch a new short Sony a6000 AF speed test. Again, pretty impressive!

Again, can’t really judge without any results. Are any of the resulting photos in focus? And anyways, what’s the point of this test? To prove that you can get the focus quickly when shooting statues?
There’s nothing like sarcasm to start a nice, constructive discussion.
Not really, they are fair points. Focus tracking on two inanimate objects on a white background is hardly indicative of in the field performance.
Actually they are. By moving the camera quickly from side to side, the user is replicating a moving subject – the target is technically moving across the sensor at a high rate of speed. I’ve tried similar test on my A7 and the performance isn’t even close to what was displayed here.
This, and the three other videos I’ve seen – including one that targets a moving subject (bird) at f/1.8 – all indicate Sony has made a great leap forward here.
It’s still a high contrast target though…
Yeah, they should try to nail the focus on a black cat in a dark room!
Or possibly on a moving child outdoors? I’m guessing they’re planning on selling these to people who shoot things other than test charts…
He’s shooting at 1/80. Moving the camera that fast is going to give some motion blur in the shots regardless of super accurate focus. The results of those shots would be rather useless. The only thing this shows is same old CD AF-S speed. In AF-C it shows the focus squares on the subject (more often than not) but the issue is the DOF and perhaps the camera movement will have the objects in focus regardless of super accurate focusing system.
All the other videos out there show seemingly very good AF-C and none show AF-S (camerastore guy talks about it but doesn’t show LCD view).
Marco is absolutely right – those “tests” are nothing but nonsense…
To test autofocus in real world conditions those kiddies should try to shoot their cats – seriously!
It’s a little sad thinking that these pre-production models went into the hands of people who can’t do a proper test…
For me it’s more a tracking test. Unfortunately the distance to the models didn’t change while shooting in burst mode. I would love to see how the af works when shooting both models with one burst!
This is what I was thinking too. All of these “tests” and not once going from one subject to the other? How useful is that? :S
And where are the photos to check if they are in focus? If they are not in focus, what’s the point of having the world fastest AF ?
It’s pretty obvious that Sony now has an incredible on sensor AF system, and all of its future interchange lens cameras with be capable of similar burst rates.
When will this technology reach the A99 or A7 series cameras. This technology will disrupt the current professional camera market.
I really hate the waiting for these new cameras.
Hahahaha, think of it as more time to save for the super high prices!
I hate the not knowing 🙁 Andrea, any hints about whether 36 and 24mp ff a-mounts are on the cards?
Good chance this technology will be inside the upcoming 24 & 36 Mega A Mount FF as mentioned by Barry.
I have no info abought the focus system on these cameras.
Barry, based on your info, how much longer until we hear anything about the a77 replacement? Thank you!
I was told about an anouncement comming middle of this month.
I was told we will be hearing A mount news soon.
I was told about 3 new A mount cameras
32mp c size aA mount
24 and 36 mp ff A mount.
Hybrid
Plus a surprize.no i do not know what the surprize will be..
I was not told specifically which cameras will be anounced when but was specically told SOON
I cannot be more specific without guessing but I do not think we will have to wait too long for more info.
Again useless test. Static objects only.
We need a wide-aperture moving-subject test.
The video shows a test for the autofocus. What you are talking about is object tracking. They are somewhat related, but they are completely different abilities/functions of a camera. You can have a camera with super-fast focus which is terrible in focus/object tracking.
What use is fast AF that cannot track? Static objects don’t move anyway, do they?
LOL
In one of the first videos about a6000 (that’s in the meanwhile gone private) a guy shot his parrot (flying) with f/1.8 and showed the pics afterwards. I didn’t go into pixel peeping, but the pics looked as if the focus was spot on. The shots were taken outdoors in the bright sunlight.

here it is
with my camera if i moved it around it would skip the focus , in this test it maintained the focus while moving the camera to the sides, pretty impressive.
I’d like to see some AF test in low lighting
yes, these test are retarded and prove nothing.
Man. Sony needs to find a way to get IBIS into E-mount, as well as a cheap lens adapter without the mirror, but with support for screw drive.
The E-mount seems to be progressing nicely. A-mount is probably getting killed. I hope there’s a good (not adequate but good) transition path, where I can afford to buy permanent adapters for all of my lenses.
Or perhaps Sony could do a free cross-ship parment adapter install. Although they’d never do that. Free and Sony don’t go together. That’s a Sigma thing.
The E-Mount will likely get on sensor stabilization, probably just as good.
E-Mounts are Compact System Cameras, and not a DSLR replacements.
They’re two entirely different systems. Its like saying compact cars or Hybrids, are going to replace with Minivans or laptops are going to replace desktops.
E & A will finally merge just like their names
Yes, they’ll merge. And then the Æ-mount will appear. Then Sony will release 490 adapters for it. More 9537 camera bodies. About 324 lens-roadmaps, but only five actual lenses. Two being standard zoom and two being super zooms. One prime.
🙂
FE is a new system, don’t hv to be mean, don’t judge too quick
Sometimes it’s good to laugh at our (Sony users) own expense 🙂
I wouldn’t spend my time here if I didn’t truly expect nice things from Sony.
(although they have been making it difficult to expect good things, but I’m a hopeful person anyway)
Lol your dreaming about lenses. It’ll be 5 18-200 super zooms in 2 colours…
Wow that shooting is so fast! I’m liking this cam, but for a beginning photographer the price seems kinda high.
One question regarding that: Currently, I’m looking into the NEX 5T, which is also a nice camera. I’ve also seen the new A5000, but that seems to be the NEX 3 successor, not the 5T as the name suggests.
Will there be a NEX 5T successor or did they blend the NEX 3 and 5 line into the A5000?
I would think yes, but if you think about it the a5000 replaces the nex3, the a6000 replaces the nex6, so theres no middle name for the nex5 replacement.
Yeah, I know. That’s the really confusing part about it. Sony really messed up their naming scheme. They couldn’t name the 3N an A3000 because that’s already taken… :p
A-mount still dead, dead, dead.
Dan
Uhm go out and take some pictures, dude..
if you still have your dead camera 🙂
Sadly AF AS performance remains unimproved. AC seems promising, though.
Enough A6000. Where is A-mount news?
Another F5.6 test, what’s the point?
Where are all the A6000 reviews?!?!
This is stupid on multiple levels. It’s one thing for a camera to indicate it’s locked focus another thing for how those photos look compared to a critically focused manual produced shot. Number two, the lens is at f 5.6 so it’s no achievement for the lens to be ‘focused’ at all. Not knowing the focal length in this ‘test’ but one could easily pop on a 21mm lens – set it 5.6 and swing it around like a monkey and get a higher ratio of higher IQ photos.
