As of today, Panasonic has announced no new Micro Four Thirds system camera or interchangeable lens this year.  Don’t blame me for the absence of rumors when Panasonic has announced NOTHING so far.

However, 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the LUMIX brand. Panasonic has already started celebrating this important milestone, but it would be surprising if the company had nothing else planned for the remainder of the year.
The autumn announcement season would be the perfect opportunity to unveil something special. This is only speculation for now, but let’s hope the recent silence is simply the calm before the storm!

This is one of the best budget mirrorless cameras you can buy in 2026, yet no one ever talk about it! I’m talking of course about the Olympus PEN E-PL9 – here’s why it’s so good!

Last week Viltrox China announce their first two new MFT lenses. But there are two odd facts:

  1. You cannot preorder the new lenses anywhere
  2. Viltrox is still not officially part of the MFT organization.

A lens company can reverse-engineer the mount and electronic protocol and sell an autofocus lens that works on Micro Four Thirds cameras without joining the official group. However, joining the Micro Four Thirds System Standard Group is normally required if the company wants to:

  • Receive the official mechanical and electronic specifications.
  • Call the lens officially “Micro Four Thirds System compliant.”
  • Use the Micro Four Thirds name or logo with authorization—the marks require prior written consent.
  • Obtain compatibility support and better coordinate firmware updates with camera manufacturers.

So, maybe Viltrox’s new lenses will only become available once Viltrox is officially admitted to the Micro Four Thirds organization?
