The first batch of FX5 cameras will be shipping out in mid October! If you still need convincing about why this camera is so great, here are some new reviews. 🙂

A source told me that Zeiss is definitely going to release more new OTUS lenses. I got no specs from him so far but my best guess is that in 2027 we will get a mirrorless version of the original 100mm f/1.4 lens.

But I wonder if people will really buy this lens. Form what I heard the current Zeiss Otus E-mount lenses ain’t selling hot….

Sony RX10V at BHphoto, Amazon, Adorama, Fotokoch, FotoErhardt, Calumet, Leistenscheider, Clifton, WexUK

Is the RX10V good enough for wildlife photography? Find out the answer here:

And Gary Friedman found one interesting setting:

We all love it when nerds hack our Sony cameras to enable new features! A guy on Reddit recently shared his experience. While he managed to add a shutter angle to his Sony A7 IV, he is currently working on enabling 8K recording (so far without success).

He writes:

‘I found a path traversal bug allowing me to get the fully decrypted firmware of the A7 IV, which nobody had managed to do before. There’s a major risk of bricking the camera.’

So be aware of the risks if you want to attempt this yourself.

Some of you though the 600mm GM would be just the 400mm GM with integrated 1.4x TC. PetaPixel checked into that:

From the single large front element to the focusing group near the middle of the lens, the 400mm and 600mm lenses are twins — the fraternal kind.

Continuing toward the lens mount, the two telephoto lenses still look a lot alike, though you do start to see some shifts in both distance from the front of the lens and overall size. The FE 600mm f/6.3 GM OSS also adds two more elements in a single extra group, bringing its total to 24 elements in 17 groups. You need to achieve that extra magnification somehow, after all.

Some forums claimed that the 600mm lens is simply the 400mm version with a teleconverter tacked onto the back. However, a look at the optical design reveals that this cannot be the case (besides, having just two more lens elements than the 400mm model would never suffice for a high-quality teleconverter). True, they did try to use shared components—likely optimized via AI. If the test results from the many YouTubers out there are accurate, the image quality, combined with the weight savings, is simply spectacular.

So my take on this is that the 600mm GM is way more than a 400mm GM with teleconverter. The lens design has been optimized and testing shows that the Image Quality is superb. Well done Sony!

PetaPixel believes the newly registered camera is not the Sony A7S IV, but rather an FX3 II or another FX-series cinema camera.

However, there is one potential flaw in its assessment: the FX3 is manufactured in Thailand, while the FX6 and FX9 are made in China. The applicant for the newly registered camera is Sony Japan—not Sony China or Sony Thailand—which suggests that it may not be a new FX model after all.

What’s true is that so far I have no 100% reliable confirmation form my trusted sources that indeed we are getting the A7sIV. It makes sense to me…but as we all know big companies have their own way of thinking about products 🙂

Matt Johnson is more aligned to my bet that this could be the A7sIV:
