Magnesium camera body will make impact harder if he falls. But camera internals will stay intact.
I’d be more worried about neck injuries in the case of a jolt or fall. That’s a lot of extra mass he’s got up there.
Just supporting that amount of weight for a period of time is a real strain on the neck muscles and tendons. Hope he has a good Chiropractor. LOL

GoPro? I use an Sony AZ1 with a live view remote. Sits much more flush to the side of the helmet than the dorky GoPro cube. 🙂
Well, nobody in his right mind believes this guy is daily driving with that A7S-rig. Probably shooting some stuff for a video project. Would have been nice to see the final result though.
Shane Hurlbert used 5d2’s as helmet cams years ago shooting Act of Valor. They’ve been used in tons of extreme sports films as well. This is cool, but its been done many times.
But this guy also seems to use the Shogun for recording the A7S HDMI output, so this will propably be a full frame 4K action video.

I was saying why not use a gopro, and then I saw the videos, such depth of field and detail can only be reproduced with a full frame camera.

Do you guys think this is a good deal to get a used sony A7 + sony 28-70mm both in excellent condition for 900€ with shipping ?
I currently have a NEX 7 with both apsc e-mount and ff a-mount sony/minolta lenses. I consider selling my NEX 7 + LE-EA2 for this A7 + 28-70 and buy a LA-EA4.
If you can get it cheaper without a lens, go for it. Imo, skip that lens and save for something better or sell it.

for as cheap as your getting the lens you might find it useful. It’s not as bad as some might say it is. It’s slow but works fine in good lighting.

The a5100 and SEL1018 could have been a better option for this setup instead of this big camera (if they wanted to use XAVC-S. Unless they REALLY wanted to use SLog. But in any case, I would use the SEL1635Z instead.

It’s not an action cam. It’s his rig. The helmet is his way of supporting his rig. Audio and directors monitor on the back. Kind of like a human camera rig.

I actually saw a guy with an a7 (most likely s) mounted the exact same way a couple days ago in Tilburg, the Netherlands.
It was the rame rig if you saw it during gumball 3000 event.
Ahh Sony… A-Mount owners used Minolta lenses and now E-Mount users use Canon lenses. I guess no matter how many times they switch mounts/interests, This will always be a problem for Sony.

This is no “action cam”, just a head-mounted rig. I don’t think he’s gonna sky dive, do parkour, cross-country biking or anything like that.
For that i use the BMC MINI on my Kawasaki… 10 bit, global shutter ( no SONY-WOBBEL)…

Fun to se my POV rig has gone viral. It’s not a Actioncam as alot of you might think, it’s a POV rig. I Built it for an POV aftermovie for Gumball3000. The setup is a a7s with metabones adapter, Cannon 16-35 2,8f, two sony shogunmics, Atomos Shogun for 4 k recording. It is powered by IDX battery in the back with V-lock. The pics you see is from the first day of the project before I mounted weights on the back of the helmet. So that particularday the helmet was pretty front heavy but after that it was just heavy but no strain to my neck as a lot of people think. Feel free to ask any questions. I used it 9 days in a row, pretty much all the time not sleeping. Im alive and no injuries. You look retarded wearing it, but you get the footage you want.
