    1. My guess is the A mount is pretty much dead. Which is sad but their E mount is a reasonable success and they want to build that up.

      1. It would be great if Sony would design an FE mount camera with the same build quality as a high-end A-mount camera and similar size/ergonomics. FE is great. But it isn’t great for everything.

      2. Sadly E-mount is far from having top build quality compared to A-mount. Also focus-by-wire is a joke, no DOF scale (except for SELP28135G and SEL90M28), no common language among lenses (some have declicked aperture, others fixed-point focus-by-wire, but not everything on all lenses).

This “Small body, large lens” idea from Sony isn’t great at all. Except for the SEL28F20, all E-mount lenses announced last year are bigger than their SLR counterparts. Heck, the SEL35F14Z is almost as big as SAL135F18Z. If they want to go big, better make a bigger body with the larger NP-FM500H battery from A-mount cameras and bigger grip, more/bigger controls and better heatsinking capabilities.

Now that I think about it. Since big telephoto lenses and fast primes and zoom lenses are going to be big anyways, why not leave A-mount for their larger lenses and leave E-mount only for small lenses.

        1. I never said E mount is superior. Its not a real professional workhorse system. But its the mount getting the money that is what Sony is thinking about. 🙁

      1. We don’t want to support people, who are not loyal to their customer base.
Therefore no FE until A99II is announced.

    1. The same reason they stopped making Zeiss lenses for Pentax mount – Hardly anyone buys them.

And these are the top of the line models that are priced much higher than the non Otus designs.

  1. Wide-Angle Otus !!

How much can we expect it to cost? Like 4-5k ?

If it’s more than 2k I’ll have to find satisfaction with the Batis 25 that I’m still trying to get my hands on.

  2. Yesss! Otus! I hope Zeiss is able to produce a few more for the otus family before Germany get overrun by “refugees”

    1. You’re in luck, if made in Japan (a country happily denying almost all refugees) you can be sure that the only time you’ll ever have anything touched by a foreigner is in a bathroom.

      1. Made in Japan, But developed in Germany. The Germans are on borrowed time.

Also, I live in America (Arizona ) where we still retain the right to be armed. We will shoot you dead here..no joke

        1. After serious consideration, I hope that my comment was taken in jest. Japan hates outsiders and has never played by the rules. But, if being fair to as many people as possible is the game, you can be sure that Japan will rise above the rules.

    2. How can you spew such disgusting drivel on a photography forum, and as a German especially. I’m ashamed to share my beautiful country with low-lives like you. Be human, not anti-human.

    1. Interesting, but Canon / Nikon mount only. Couldn’t see from the page if AF or Manual only. They look just like the Batis.

  3. Well, it won’t be a 135. The APO should have been labelled an OTUS. What could it be? Must be wide. 24 sounds boring, but that’s my guess.

  4. Tsk tsk…

    You changed the title:

but couldn’t modify the URL, which corresponds to the former title:

A sure way to improve you SR5 hit ratio :).
