Tomorrow (May 1) Sony will announce the new A77M2 (first A-mount camera after the 14 months old A58), RX100M3 and likely the final A7s pricing (around $3499 AUSD). I am still not sure about the two “new” lenses mentioned by one trusted source. The other sources haven’t seen them and it may be the source just meant the slightly updated 18-55mm kit lens and the FE Powerzoom. The best thing we can hope is that he might meant two new FE lenses that Sony could unveil on their updated roadmap. Anyway, these are the specs about the two upcoming cameras:

A77M2 A-mount:
new 24 megapixel Sensor
79 af points, 15 cross points
very Fast Tracking performance
12fps up to 60 Frames/ 25 frames RAW & JPG, RAW 26 frames
Low light AF, f/2.8 vertical line sensor, new algorithm

RX100M3:
20MP sensor (same as RX100M2 model)
ISO 125-25600
24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 lens
Built in View finder (SVGA OLED Tru-Finder 1440k dots)
Tiltable screen (180 degrees up)
Record in XAVC S format (Same format of the Sony A7s but with no 4K output option).
Almost same size and weight as the current RX100/M2 models.
I have been told all other specs are the same of the current RX100II model.
Price is said to be around 800-850 Euro in Europe. Should be around $800-850 in USA (US price is my guess)

Follow the announcement live here on SonyAlphaRumors on May 1 at:
– 2am (02:00) San Francisco
– 5am (05:00) New York time
– 10 am (10:00) London time
– 11 am (11:00) Berlin time
– 8 pm (20:00) Tokyo time

UPDATE: Looks like different countries will see the cameras announced on different days. This is Sony’s Hong KOng invitation test for a May 7 announcement. This isn’t unusual. Also the A7s has been announced in US first and only days after in Japan.

  1. The rumored price of the A7s sounds like the price of the RX1 (in Europe) and is a no go for me. 🙁

I will wait for a 33% price drop of A7 to add to my A7R. 🙂

The XAVV fans should rejoice! 🙂

      1. Indeed. 🙁

There are plenty of fish in the ocean as they say. Lots of choices now from various manufacturers. Some of those systems even include decent lighting (flash) options and such- geared towards still captures. 🙂

      2. Not his standard, but point of view of 80% of people. 3500 for this camera is a non sens (considering the need of 2000 usd recorder to compete against 1700 usd GH4). 1999 is the price were a lot of people would buy this camera, 2499 a limit, but 3000+ they fail. Let’s see tomorrow.

        1. So a full frame mirrorless camera capable of full sensor 4K should be the same price (or cheaper) as a M43 camera capable of 4K?

      1. I’m actually very excited for both cameras. I could care less about A7 and A7R really, but the A7S is seriously on my radar. I was really hoping for something as surprising in alpha mount.

          1. Resolution isn’t really my thing is really what I meant to say. I’m sure it’s a great camera but those specs really don’t appeal to me. I already have a full frame camera and therefore don’t see the A7 as offering any serious advancements outside of its size. I think the A7S, judging on specs alone, may indicate a whole new ball game.

          2. Yes, you are correct! I don’t know if your the one that posted the link to the guy who was explaining the differences. Anyway, I ended up watching it awhile back and it was hilarious.

  2. Why this post ? once again there’s nothing new, I did say this before, this is no longer a rumor site, nothing new to tell us again ?

    1. Well I wanted to share the lens mystery I am working on. If you think I am doing a terrible job go elsewhere to read rumors. Oh wait…there is not other site that shares specs in advance right now…you have to stick on SAR 🙂

      1. Strange that I am not the only one who think that you are repeat your own incompleet and more than once falt rumors, just admit it.

        1. So on the one hand you complain that SAR doesn’t post enough rumors, then on the other hand you complain that SAR’s rumors are incomplete and more than once false. Seems like you’ve set up an unreasonable expectation so that you have something to complain about.

        2. So on the one hand you complain that SAR doesn’t have new rumors, then on the other you complain that their rumors are incomplete and sometimes false? Seems unreasonable. It’s a rumor site, not a news site, but when people complain about the rumors being incomplete or false, that causes the admin not to print rumors. Do you not see the problem with this?

        3. On the one hand, you criticize the lack of new rumors, while on the other hand you criticize SAR for having incomplete and occasionally false rumors. Seems like an unreasonable expectation for a rumor site.

    2. Did you pay for a subscription to SAR? Are you bound by your government to read SAR? Is your spouse holding a weapon to your head forcing you to read SAR?

      No?

Ok, get lost if you don’t like it. DON’T complain that Andrea is not living up to your standards. Your opinion on this matter doesn’t count. It’s not your site.

  3. the new evf, will it be in a77mkll and what do you think,is the mirror same size and shape so i could change it to to my a77

and do you know is the mirror letting more light thru

    1. Sony improved the A55 mirror when they released the A77 to get rid of ghosting. The A55 and A77 mirrors are interchangeable according to the part numbers, so my guess is that the A77MII will be too. It makes sense to develop one “frame” to hold the mirror and use it in all SLT camera bodies. However Sony being Sony, they might change the design to make it cheaper.

    2. (First reply was blocked)

The A55 and A77 mirrors are certainly interchangeable.

The A77 mirror is just an improved version of the A55 one to remove ghosting, so hopefully the A77MII will be the same dimensions and be interchangeable too.

      1. I actually did not know this. If one has an old A55 still kicking around, would it be worth it to order a new mirror/film to gain that improvement? Or is the ghosting in such small instances it’s not that important? Primary use for me is in underwater housing (I have A99 for most other uses but no housing for A99)

  4. Since the rx100 will not be a superzoom as I had speculated. I have no interest in that class of camera so I will not comment on what features I do or dont want.
My guess that Sony might make a 1″ superzoom to compete with Nikon may or may not happen but it will not happen today.
For those that want to hear one of my rumors did not happen you got your wish..some of my predictions will happen and some wont.

    1. LOL reading your posts is similar to being transported to some surreal parallel universe where everything is slightly off-kilter.

      1. Nikon will anounce the p700 with 1 ” sensor and 24-2000mm equivelent lens.
So far no one else has a camera in that class.
We have some people on sar that continually post ” DO NOT SAY THAT” type comments and unfortanaitly they are curremtly attacking my comments in order to discourage me from posting.
They apparently think they are protecting SAR fron me.
So each of my comments will probably be followed by one or more of these.
Since I cannot stop them from doing this I will not be protecting SAR from them.

        1. Wrong. Nikon’s p700 will be a 1′ sensor and 24-20,000 lens. I spoke to a Nikon executive this morning – he told me so.

        2. 2000mm equivalent on a 1-inch class sensor would be 740mm real at the long end, so a 8.8 to 740mm zoom lens. Possible to build, yes as it is a f/8.4 at the long end but it would be huge, around a 3.5-inch aperture. I could see a 1000mm equivalent optical plus digital zoom, and at 500mm equivalent with a 4X digital zoom, it might be doable for not a huge price, a 9 to 185mm lens at f/8.4 would be less than a 1-inch aperture

        3. Haven’t followed the rumours around this Nikon cam, and indeed that sounds quite unique. But worth pursuing? I’m not sure.

People already complained about the relatively dark end of the RX100’s zoom. Can’t imagine what that will give on a 2000mm Nikon…

          1. 24-2000mmequivelent f3.5-8.5…1″sensor.
Current bridge cameras have 1/2.3″ sensor. This sensor is 5x as big..the camera weighs 45.8 oz.
The quality shou ‘ll d be substantially better than current superzooms but not as good as a C size sensor camera.
I could see keeping a camera like this handy in the car for subjects of opportunity and subjects that are too far away for my 600mm that I will be getting.
I do not visualize it replacing the interchacheable lens camera.
I have definitely not decided if I want this camera but am anxious to hear mre about it.

          2. f/8.5… yes, that’s the kind of aperture I was thinking about.
That’s dark. Much better than current bridge cams, and partially offset by a clean high ISO, but that’s still dark.

Also, given the likely form factor of the camera, shooting at 2000mm should prove impractical due to the highly magnified shakings of the hands. A tripod is a must have. But once you bring a tripod… why not a larger camera (not necessarily a heavy one)?

          3. It is supposed to have oss and a large grip built in.
There are quite a number of ..how will they do that? Things that I wonder about..what form factor will the use to accomadate an almost 750mm actual f ok cal length lens..mayby fold yhe light path with mirrors or something else onovative.
Of course it is even possible that the rumor is not true.

        4. You keep mentioning this Nikon. How do you know this? Is this insider knowledge, or speculation on your part?

          1. Not inside knowledge
This is one of the new cameras rumored to be anounced in may…all the nikon sites are talking about it.
Google Nikon Coolpix P700 and lots of rumor articlss will come up. They all seem to be based on a single rumor however as they all have the exact same info.

  5. The a77m2 is a camera that may or may not interest me.
Some of the projected features sound interesting but the 24mp if true is a huge dissapointment to me.
We are so close to learning the truth about this camera that I will wait till tomorrow to make a more definitive comment.

    1. I’m sure I speak for everybody when I say we are very much looking forward to your defining judgement.

    2. I’ll make everyone very happy in saying I probably will be scarce in SAR for a while. Like you I’m looking for a pretty noticeable bump in IQ and even if the a77II does a better job with this than the a6000 it’s not enough. With a replacement a77III 3 years off and no other a-mount likely until fall, some periodic check-ins through the summer should be enough.

  6. No touchscreen in RX100M3? It’s a SONY! Touchscreen is prehistory technology in mind of sony management! =) SAD SAD SAD…

  7. The A77M2 is not a high resolution camera so it not one I want to buy. New line.
I think I will keep talking about the A77M2 not interesting me for a while. I will make a tpyo now.
Since we are so close to the press release date of the A77M2 I will wait for 5 minutes before speculating about it again. New line.
Tpyo time again. I am sad that the Sony Exec I spoke to was not a real Sony Exec.
Someone pulled the wool over my eyes and I haven’t taken pictures of any sheep for a while.
I am going to go paint animal genitalia now. I will paint the Tardigrade’s. I will need a 40/0 brush for that because it is so small. Sony only makes a 20/0 brush.
Admin, do you have any rumors about Sony making a high resolution brush? I need a 40/0.

          1. The real Barry was not cast, he was hand forged by (a collaboration by Darth Vader and Mr Bean) out of a special blend of titanium and stinging gnats.

          2. Just to set the record straight, the above poster was not me.

I do not have ill will toward Barry. He’s an artist. He’s allowed to be eccentric.

          3. OK, not really a fan of msg board snark…but that was freaking hii-larious. You owe me a new keyboard, this one is sticky with soda now.

        1. As one of the Barry’s, I can confirm this statement.
It is not hilarious it is just extremely amusing.
          Admin,
Please let us know if this camera will be compatible with Nikon batteries. Nikon batteries allow me to get higher resolution pictures when I use them in my Hasselblad Lunar.
A Nikon executive told me that using Nikon batteries will result in up to 32 megapixels from a 24 megapixel sensor. Here is my tpyo for this post.

    1. When some cowardly sock puppet decides to bully people out of forums it’s incredibly hard to be funny. Add in your grade school type humor ran its course in 3rd grade and it’s insufferable.

      1. I disagree. I think it’s QUITE justified for all the meaningless repetitive crap we put up with from this guy. It’s the only way it’s bearable.

        1. It is was not me, the real Dan always includes A-mount is dead, dead, dead. It’s just the same guy using different names. I don’t have a problem with my name being used, but it would be great if they also used my A-mount is dead, dead, dead styling. Also, just to be clear, A-mount is dead, dead, dead.
          Dan

          1. Do you understand what “Dead” means?

I dont think you do. Either that, you’re an incredibly stupid human being, considering where you’re posting.

  8. I am going to STFU for once and wait till tomorrow 10am GMT London time. If I don’t hear the news I will be pissed. But I will get over it.

  9. Nice number of AF points but also hoping to see an improved hybrid AF taken from the A99 with AF points covering most of the frame, plus the range limit function.

  10. Actually I think the AF system of a77M2 should be wrong, it should be based on a99’s 19 points PDAF(15 points cross sensor) and a6000’s 179 points OSPDAF, admin can you check again with your source?

  11. Because the naysayers haven’t said it yet – a-mount is dead! Oh wait … what was this article talking about…

        1. Don’t do it in poor light as we all know that it’s impossible to get good cat images out of the the A77 in poor light.

          /sarcasm

        1. With the high ISO of the a7s, you should be able to photograph the cat in the dark THROUGH the lens cap. Damn the cat’s moved.

          1. My fridge is leaking light and seems not properly weather sealed, when will Sony fix it?

          2. Found my cat. Had to use the a7s to find it. 4k video in dark is great. Cat is in the fridge.

          1. I used to play in a flame echo years back. If you want to flame me all I ask is you attempt to be remotely clever about it.

          2. Ok, here it is:

Earl, you are wrong. How do I know? Because I just said so.

Bingo. See how easy that was?

    1. Hello Pancake Cold-compress,

The A7s pricing has been determined at B&A Photo Video!

The A7s body only will be priced at $2,499*.

      Thanks!

*Plus or minus an unknown amount.

    1. It means a dedicated sensor that is very sensitive in low light conditions that detects contrast differentials in the horizontal plane.

Basically, fast lenses will work better at max aperture on horizontal targets.

  12. So the point and shoot camera (RX100M3) has a pro video codec but the A77MII won’t? Am I reading this right

    1. there are no info about video on the a77m2 at all so it might have it or maybe not, maybe even 4k who knows… we’ll see in a couple hours. At least i hope they added xavc s

  13. Gre gre gre gre great! may 1 is so soon! If A77M2 is as good as expected, I will buy a 70-200 f2.8 and 150-600

  14. Why are there no leaks of the camera pictures? All we have is a very general statement of the aspects of the camera. It seems everytime that a camera is going to be a let-down, we get very little information, heck under the previous rumor, it should have been announced 39 minutes ago. However, gangbuster cameras that will have a great impression get leaked heavily. This camera is not going to impress or wow us, that I’m sure we can all agree, and it hasn’t even been released yet, right?

      1. Dan is just an immature idiot. Who isn’t intelligent enough to understand modern semi-translucent, or mirror-less camera design.

Hope he doesn’t shoot Canon, cause they’re the next company preparing to launch a camera with a modern semi-translucent reflex mirror design.

        http://egami.blog.so-net.ne.jp/2013-10-30

    1. This is the only time I will dignify you with a response.

First, I am not a Sony fanboy. I shoot Sony A-mount because I shot Minolta like many others. Now, for the first time since Sony took over the reins from Minolta, I am honestly excited for the future of their imaging division. They are clearly taking imaging seriously and gearing up to cater to professionals, as well as consumers. It’s no secret that Sony’s lens line-up is not as vast as Canikon’s. They’re only one company with limited design and production resources, and with that being said I think they’re doing remarkably well. They understand that they will never be able to make all of the people happy all of the time, and they’re not trying to.

Sony’s biggest challenge is that people don’t often associate the words “professional photography” with Sony. This perception will change. Canikon is marketing mostly to Gen X. Sony is marketing to Gen Y and beyond. Sony just has to keep on keeping on and one day soon the tide will turn as the Gen Y photographers start to outnumber the Gen X photographers. If you’re a Gen X Sony photographer, like myself, kudos to you for ‘getting it’ and supporting innovation.

Sony understands that the world is changing at an ever quickening rate, and that if they stand still, they will be passed by, as Canon and Nikon currently stand to do. There will always be those who swear by the DSLR and therefore Canon and Nikon may live on as niche companies, but I believe that the mass transition away from DSLRs will be rather abrupt and we get closer to that time with each passing year, and each GH4 and A7 style camera release.

The way I see it, Dan, posters like you are a good indication of the industries’ nerves. You’ve previously stated how you loathe E and A mounts, so I think it’s likely you’re a Canon or Nikon shooter. If so, you are the quintessential Canikon fanboy barometer; the more you troll, the more you proclaim that “A-mount is dead,” the more you demean Sony shooters, the more we’ll all know that Sony’s innovation is being noticed. Sony is doing the right things to be competitive.

      Bring it.

      1. Great response. Finally, someone proud to be a Sony shooter, rather can simply compare idiotic specs or differences in branded products. Just to be clear, i report that A-mount is dead, dead, dead. That being said, its still a great product line. Folks are just more interested in defending their positions instead of discussing the issues. Just to be sure, iv never shot a Canon, but woul like.to try one out one day. Im actually probably more a veteran Sony shooter than most here. I like many picked up.my first dslr for a newborn child. An A300 with the kit lens. I then joine the AlphaMountWorld forums. Sure i eventually switched to Pentax, but i also have a Nex5 and Nex5n. I think id be happy with any wd product, so long as i can score the memories i wanted. Yep, everyoe is using my name, and thats cool. I just hope someone goes back and sees what in the past, then they will understand and maybe laugh too. Oh, just in case we forgot A-mount is dead, dead, dead.
        Dan

    1. I agree 100%.

I’d also like to see the 200mm F/2.8, and 200mm Macro F/4.0 G-Series re-released I had a chance to borrow both last year from a friend and they yielded spectacular results.

      1. The 200mm 2.8 minolta is a legend that needs to be revived. If the A77 is all about speed, it makes complete sense to release some telephoto lenses as a marketing strategy. Sony clearly has a gap and they need to fill it.

  15. I am in Hong Kong. Fail to understand why they ask you to register by facebook login but not “my sony” login for a Sony Event.
