UPDATE: It’s now official! Read about the new lenses here on SAR.

Big surprise! Within the next few hours Voigtlander will officially launch a new line of E-mount lenses! I have been told these are compact manual focusing prime lenses. Stay tuned on SAR!!!

  1. I love how you started with a f/1.2 lens to grab attention and replaced it with a tiny 35/2.5 when you found out the lenses will be tiny, only to replace it with an even smaller lens 🙂

  2. I guess Sony will be on the offensive this season. The 2nd gen A7 cameras are in stores. 8 new lenses from Sony to be announced in a week or two. Few Zeiss lenses comming in the next days and now few Voigtlanders……that is mazing. FE mount is going to double the lens line up this October! It would be great if sony can create 2 tiers of lenses between Sony, Vogtlander and Zeiss……I am missing the affordable Sony line

….and I was thinking I need no more lenses as the current set of FE lenses I have is pretty much all I ever need.

  3. “UDPATE: The lenses are Full Frame!!!!!!!!!!!!”

FFS!!!!!!!!! Anyone want to buy my NEX 6? I think it is time for me to switch to a different apsc system.

    1. Since A6000 is bad camera or since Full Frame lenses don’t work on NEX-6??? or may be simply trolling?

      1. How dare you accuse me of trolling! I not going to buy lenses that are the wrong focal length, I want lenses that are designed for my cameras sensor size. It looks likely to me that the apsc e mount system is being phased out. Aparantly the inustry has also noticed because nothing new for the system has been released from anyone for a long time. I can not see the point in staying with a system that I think is dying, wainting and wainting for new stuff that is unlikely to come.

        1. simple example 55/1.8 and 50/1.8 are almost same size. Only difference on a6000 is 55/1.8 performs much better optically. I own the lenses and the A6000 and see no problems.

70-200/4 is fantastic on A6000. Gives me great reach. Super fast AF….

For MF lenses 35/1.4 from Voigtlander or 50mm Leica lenses feel fantastic and 50mm makes fo great compact portrait lens.

I really do not see any point in your rambling beyond trolling. At least I am actually using the gear and like it where it seems you neither use it nor have youe you tried it yet you are unhappy…..

          1. Exactly. I only own one dedicated APS-C lens (16-70mm) for my A6000 as well. For everything else I use my FE lenses and they work fine.

          2. Love my new Batis 85mm on my a6000. Since there is no equivalent in The APSC system and will be beneficial when I switch to FF. Next up is the 28mm f2.0.

          3. “Only difference on a6000 is 55/1.8 performs much better optically.”
Well, not to be picky, but that is hardly the only difference. The FE cost me roughly 2.5 times more than the 50mm and it doesn’t have OSS. For someone using APS-C exclusively, the FE really doesn’t make any sense, imho.

        2. A 50mm will always be a 50mm, the only difference is field of view so if the price is good what difference will it make? you can’t design a 50mm for a apsc that will give you the same field of view on ff. There is no reason to get rid of your apsc.

          1. Only when you don’t consider the price. And, for some reason, my 50mm 1.8 seems to beat the Zeiss wide open ever so slightly on my NEX-7, although it is very possible that I messed up my test 🙂

      1. Yeah, i will have to see about that, $2000 for a manual focus 50mm f2 photographic lens will not be what I consider a competitive price

        1. I have never seen a single 50mm from Voigtlander priced beyond $1000 and that would be a 25mm 0.95 for MFT at launch.

You sure you got the right name?

Worth noting there are a lot of scammers on ebay that are NOT guideline price brackets.

  4. M-Mount is dead !
Shame Voigtlander is working with Sony. I hope there’s gonna be a new Leica A99 II in the next few months.
Ok I’m trolling… it’s good news for the FE mount. Hope to see what comes next

    1. Leica and Voigtlander is so bad they no longer make screw mount lenses and there is still no news about L39 digital back. I am moving on to BMW at least they still use screws

      1. That digi-L39 has been my dream since before I was born.
I told my parents, since before they met, to buy every Leica magazine or publication ever in hopes to hear from it. From 2010 onward, I’ve been refreshing the Leica Rumors site every 8 hours in hopes to hear from it.

    2. “…Leica A99 II…” You are one evil man. It causes me physical pain, if I think about it.

M-Mount is dead, no doubt. Hehe..

  5. hmmmm what are the chances of them being just re-mounted existing lens. like what zeiss is doing to their zm/loxia range….

    1. Even in such case, using at the moment the LA-EA4 and a Nikon to FE adapter, it’s really a pain in the ass for the ergonomy and speed.
If Voigtlander can help us using native mount lenses, it is easier to swap one for another 🙂

    2. Their latest VM lenses are optimized for E-mount. So yes, they could just exchange the mount and add electronic contacts and be set. I would not mind an E-mount 15mm.

    1. Let’s face it, there are just not enough 35mm and 50mm lenses today. We need marketing teams to tell us that last year’s lenses are no good in the coming age of ultra mp sensors. Not just that, we also need them to let us know that next year’s mega-ultra mp sensors will need another batch of 35mm and 50mm to be able to exquisitely resolve every pixel (and the space in between pixels) to the n-th level never seen before.

Worth noting too is that I have a 35mm for when I shoot my wife. Another 35mm when I shoot birds in The Gambia (a trip I make once every other year) a set of 4 35mm lenses for work (one for close ups, one for mid range, one for landscape and one for things) and a final 35mm which has tons of character and juice and I use that for hobby.

  6. Haha, talk about killing of every lens sale for Sony.. The smaller FF bodies do not make sense with grotescue lenses.. Good that Voigtländer understands this.

    1. Yes, absolutely : there is room for a company producing very sharp but slower tiny lenses. Sony is going in the wrong direction with the huge lenses they have issued recntly.

    1. It would be great to see such a small lens for E-Mount, but it will not be the 40mm/2.0. It is made for Nikon and their large flange distance. A lens with the same optics would be longer than the Zeiss FE 35mm/2.8 on E-Mount. We’ll see.

      1. I have the 40mm and while it is bigger than the FE35, it is only slightly so, and let’s not forget it is faster. However, together with the adapter, it is heavy.

        1. I’m a big fan of the new collapsible Panasonic lenses: 12-32mm and 35-100mm. Would be nice to see something similar for FE.

    2. I think the VM lenses that were recently updated for use with the Sony-E close focus adapter are the most likely to appear in E-mount versions:

      – 15mm f/4.5
      – 35mm f/1.7
      – 40mm f/2.8

I just hope that they drop the retro styling and go for cleaner lines just like the Loxias. I don’t need that distracting retro look, I just want a functional design.

      1. You can throw in some other lenses which work fine on Sony bodies, like the 35mm 1.2, the 50mm 1.1, 50mm 1.5, 75mm 1.8. It will also make sense for them to port the DSLR lenses, I think.

  7. for the record, im not against it. in fact, we have tooo many over-priced/sub-par quality adaptors out there. so native e mount is always welcome. also most 35mm RF lens dont play nicely on A7 series, so if they change the element on, say 35mm f1.4 or 40mm f1.4, then it will be very attractive.

    1. LOL! What bothered me the most as a Nikon user was the lack of decent 35 and 50mm lenses. Especially 50mm was a joke.

      1. As a Nikon user???

        AiS 35/2.8
        AiS 35/2
        AiS 35/1.4
        AF 35/2 D
        AF-S 35/1.8 G ED
        AF-S 35/1.4 G

        Ai 50/2
        AiS 50/1.8
        AiS 50/1.4
        AiS 50/1.2
        AiS 58/1.2 Noct
        AiS 55/2.8 Micro
        AF 50/1.8D
        AF 50/1.4D
        AF-S 50/1.8G
        AF-S 50/1.4G
        AF-S 58/1.4G

Or did you mean as a Nikon user looking at Sony?

    2. Indeed hot news.

Maybe I get one of my desired uwa’s.
However I would complain about the integrated lens hood as I am used to work with a filter system if they would be going to adapt the existing VM lenses.

    3. Have we reached “redundancy” yet? I thought the bit ch in g was still about how much E mount still needs lenses.

      1. People will be screaming “where are the lenses” even when the line-up is complete for the majority of people.

    4. Not sure this really counts as it’s MF. MF is still a niche market and 95% of emount users shoot with AF lenses. Also not redundant as there is still only really 1 native compact emount lens (the 35/2.8).

  8. Fingers crossed for 35mm 1.2. I almost bought it yesterday, refrained for no real reason, now this announcement!

  9. I like the sound of 10,12, ad 15 mm dedicated E-Mount lenses. I have had the 15mm f.4,5 III in M-Mount on my wish list. Now i instead can put this on my wishlist in E-Mount. And hopefully there will be a lens telling my A7 what aperture that is in use.
I also was thinking about the 12 mm before. But now. WOW, 10 and 12 mm. Nor sure what of these lenses to choose. But why two lenses so close to each other !!!!.
For me it would make more sense that instead og 10,12, and 15 mm. There should be 10,15, and 21 mm
