Gary Fong is a tool
Another dissatisfied Canon owner, sucks to be you.
actually, Gary Fong is a flash accessory
He should move to hong kong and play ping pong as an extra in king kong. Then he can print a business card saying Gary Fong Hong Kong Ping Pong King Kong extra.
racist
what makes a rime racist? You perhaps? Why are you a racist and why do you hate fun?
Mr. Fong’s house in Canada just got burned. I’m glad to know the Fong’s family is safe and no one was harmed. Thank you Mr. Fong for the tutorials!
>Switching To Sony From Canon or Nikon
Once again, by that he means switching from DSLR to mirrorless, not switching from Canikon to Sony DSLR.
If you’re switching from 6D to A99 or from Olympus to A7, that’s ‘switching to Sony’! Comparable products.
Besides, he’s one of those reviewers who talk about the advantages of EVF as if it was a definitive feature of mirrorless cameras… Although Sony DSLRs are EVF-based as well.
For ***’s sake, you don’t need to lose the mirror to get an EVF! Oh well…
You obviously didn’t listen to the video or can’t comprehend the meaning.
He talks about his A7-II the whole time.
Switching from Canon is easy… you get fullly electronic aperture control and values, image stabilisation and AF… plus you get some serious and unique lenses.
Switch from Nikon and you need to meddle with levers for aperture and manual focus with screw drive and afaik no VR… plus the lenses are for mainstream stuff, not for serious photography.
Do you do serious photography?
If you knew anything about it you wouldn’t have to ask.
I checked your site and I found pretty bad pics, but it’s clearly my fault, because I know nothing.
It is your fault for not going to the flickr account:

Awww, the masterpiece… I really know nothing LOL.
Unless you actually click the link, true 🙂
And when I click it, it’s even worse. Tell me more, stand up for it, then make some star wars joke.
Beam me up scotty? Ok so now let’s have a look at your superior work.
There we go, the confrontational nerd. Ever heard of privacy? It is something to bear in mind when dealing with the internet.
Can’t you hear the mediocrity screaming out of those pics? And check out the prices of the gear involved. Are you seriously making a case for that fool? Who keeps teaching us? If I was half that bad I would keep quiet and try to learn, myself.
nah just curious, it is this comment section and the crap trolling that turns most normal conversations into confrontations. then again, most people choose the confrontation over a reasonable argument, why you think i use this name, same reason. I don’t want my clients find me arguing with trolls online, they don’t need to find out what kind of crap I want to talk while relaxing 🙂
Agree. I really hope geno stops playing the teacher, the web is full of dung information.
A few years ago I cocked up some important (for me) shots because I wanted top sharpness and low noise, so I kept the lens stopped down and the ISO low. The result was a blurry mess! I had been reading too much junk from the interweb experts, and I was justly punished. And the corners were not sharp 🙂 Fortunately, I found out shortly and saved the rest of the day.
Interweb experts also made me buy quite a bit of useless junk, which I got rid of.
It looks like it’s got worse if anything: it is a giant marketplace and a giant publicity machine.
“it is a giant marketplace and a giant publicity machine.” nail on the head I think, everybody is trying to sell you something, either affiliate links or themselves which get’s them more clicks. I also know about the “must have” junk, had crates full of stuff I sold recently, cashed over $10K on ebay by selling unused junk. Including glidecam, drone(no time to train for the permists), loads of zacuto rig nonsense and whatever stuff you are better of hiring with a skilled operator. Perhaps it is why I hate s3!tty videos with bad tests just to be first and grab a second of spotlight and some ad impressions. The one thing I have learned is that there are no true experts online, it is all just a point of view and to be a true expert you need to be outside ‘doing it’. The whole idea that whomever disagrees with you or has a different point of view must therefor be an idiot, well, we are all in the same place doing the same thing. .. anyway AE render finished, back to work 🙂
Actually there are plenty of true experts online, but you won’t find them hocking crappy videos, seminars and tutorials. In fact, most don’t even want to be seen in certain parts of town, reputation being what it is, a fickle thing!
Yep, exactly. Or they use a troll identity 🙂
He he is that a hint?
Oh this is definitely a troll identity, have you read some of the rubbish I posted? People who talk like that in the real world are either effin richt and considered “eccentric” or get locked up.
Agreed, he p.i.s.s.e.s those of us right off who have publicly shared to no avail! His work is terrible, he is condescending and annoying!
Yours? I’m intrigued.
Sorry, to see my work you got to pay me first, $2500 / day ex travel $850 for assistant, I’ll bring my own gear tnx for asking.
Really, you’d hire him?
Lol what do you know about photography? You can’t even figure out how to register a username. Bring your camera and I’ll teach you how to use it.
Honestly, your should be careful speaking as you do referencing that collection of images. Just sayin’…………. 😉
See my reply to the other guy.
Either you go on teaching and you remove that folio, or you stick to the folio and stop teaching. And you even put your name on it!
Seriously… do you have any clue about the subject? What i take photos of is my business… it’s how i take photos that matters to anyone who learns from me LOL Not a surprise that you are clueless about that too.
And learn to register a username… even kids can do it.
So often you hear of people selling all their gear to go from Sony to Canon or from Nikon to Sony or to go from x to y etc etc. Of course camera manufacturers love this for the obvious reasons, but for the camera owner this makes little or no sense. Transition from one system to another will cost thousands of dollars, we all know it cannot be cheap. Most likely money would be better spent on an upgrade to the kit you have – either a lens or a a camera. Perhaps an upgrade to the gear is not needed at all. The money could be spent on a photography trip, an experience that would in fact allow you to use your equipment. If you have DSLR(s) and lenses, chances are they are capable of taking decent photos. After all, it is not as if the appearance of the A7 family of cameras turned the rest of the cameras into paper weights.
Don’t get me wrong, the a7, a7s, a7ii etc are probably excellent cameras, and in the future I may or may not own one of those, it is just this whole idea of switching is making people spend money that could be better spent elsewhere. Also it is putting the focus on the gear instead of using the gear to focus on the photography.
That’s true for Canikon users. We Sony/Minolta users are in a different situation.
Unlike other manufacturers, Sony no longer offers upgrade options, you have to switch systems within Sony now to get the new stuff.
And the new system isn’t even an adequate replacement for the old one, it’s more of a downgrade ATM.
But one of your recommendations still applies, spend on something else. Personally, I was ready to upgrade to full frame by New Year, but since Sony didn’t wake up and obviously doesn’t want my money, I guess I’d have to spend elsewhere.
There recently was a sony a77II, Sony promised more Sony alpha mount cameras. There is a higher end APSC NEX mount in the works, there are more lenses to follow. It seems there are plenty of upgrades. Sony has never been quick to follow up with updates, the lags between a700 and a77, and between a77 and a77mii come to mind.
Well let’s see, for my needs it’s a FF EVF-based body with fast wide-coverage AF-C and f/2.8 zoom lenses. These are pretty basic requirements, not something exotic..
So, A99 has A77’s AF with all AF points clustered in the centre of the frame. I tend to use the side points often.
A7x have no f/2.8 zooms (f/4 zooms produce the same results as f/2.8 on APS-C that I have).
Canons and Nikons have OVF, which I really wouldn’t like to go back to.
With rouble devalued, photo equipment got really expensive in Russia, one could buy a car for that money. So I can make do with small limitations, but can’t afford to settle for a disappointing system.
If you want to buy those cameras go ahead, it may or may not be justified. The fundamental issue here though is that you are focusing on the equipment you “need”. It is doubtful you would have come up with these specifications 5 or even a couple of years ago before these options existed.
It may be more useful to take a step back and describe the photography you do. Is it landscape, portrait, macro? Then take a look at what if anything you need to add to your equipment to match the photography you do. Just my 2 cents worth.
@duott from my point of view, i see yoursstupid complaining comments in every discussion from weekly pictures, through e/a mount stuff to competition rumors. U either have immense amount of free time or u dont take pictures at all but write nonsense in here. I guess there will never be a camera that will live up to your expectations, so just shut up please !!! Just once! Ok ? Ok?!?!

If this is the kind of pictures you take, then you ultra mega seriously need a new A99ii with super duper autofocus, 800mm f2,8 ! Yeah and dont forget another 1500mm f4 as a spare one, just as a pair of clean underwear you take with you in case you shit yourself when you realize you have just a58 and a kit lens. Or buy yourself an iphone and save us your wet dreams. God how i hate your comments!

Now seriously, what’s the trouble with OVFs? I may be able to help.
This is what I have been telling people for years: spend money on going interesting places to take interesting shots instead of throwing money at gear to shoot your cat at home with the latest lens / camera.
Any camera/lens produced in recent years is virtually indistinguishable when shot in a proficient manner from the latest and greatest, especially when reproduced in professional print media.
The only thing I’m going to be migrating into is medium format. So long, Gay boys!
You obviously have issues with your sexuality.
Well, I switched from XT1 to A7ii. Maybe I should make a video, too. On the other hand, who but my wife will watch it?
Oh I will and then I will troll da fuq out of it just to see if you would respond.
Thanks, at least one supporter ;-).
No problem man, I’m here to help! 🙂
BTW Garys house bourned to the ground, but no harm to humans happend.
So we are lucky to see further awesome Gary videos.
😉
Was an overheating HVL-F60M the cause of his house fire? 😉
Good to hear no injuries.
Web marketing aside, I see very few people moving from superior systems (Canon and Nikon) to these things. At most, some might buy one as an additional body for certain situations, or for use with legacy lenses and no flash. It truly seems a very small niche.
Look at the sony a7 sales article that was posted here some time ago. Half of the camera owners were new sony users (meaning never had a sony camera before). I repeat HALF!!! Seems pretty much to me 😉 . Also the booth at photokina, it was completely full and people were excited about tje new a7x cameras.
Have you got the numbers? Because we get enough speculation already. If I was a beginner, I might be tempted. Fortunately, I know better. These things have too many errors about them.
Unfortunatelly i dont. I was googling for 10 minutes and couldnt find. But nonetheless u cannot deny the impact these cameras had on the market and photo enthusiasts. Many (including myself) have been dreaming of such a camera(small, ff, mount that can take all legacy lenses, EVF,videocapabilities, focus peaking). And not canon, not nikon brought it. I praise sony for that, and yes you arw right they have some faults(very very minor) but compare it to other cameras nowadays (shutter shock 5dii)and with the first generation of digital ff by canikon. These a7x are new first generatipn, it’ll improve ;). And most impirtantly thing i didnt mention that makes me buy sony stuff is the price !!!! Its cheapest for what you get, there is no discussion ! None whatsoever not lenses (u can adapt anything) not quality, not built quality and so on
You are right, I mostly shoot manual focus and such a camera has been my dream for years. It certainly made an impact.
However, the devil is in the details and this thing is just not ready. The narrow mount also makes trouble with really short lenses, I wonder if they will ever get around that problem.
That will change I think by the end of next year. But I would assume most are using it as a second body. Heck, I’m not sure A mount users have even made the switch. At least those who have a decent amount of glass. I don’t see the reason too.
Admin, how much more crap are you going to post today?
