You can’t have enough of A7-A7r reviews? So here comes the next roundup 🙂
PocketLint (Click here) posted the full Sony A7 review.
The Sony Alpha A7 is a mini marvel with a big point of interest: that full-frame sensor. It’s not perfect, though, but most of the shortcomings we can forgive because each time we go and look at the images again they make us smile.
SLR Lounge (Click here) posted the extensive A7r review:
Are the a7 and A7R enough to shake up the industry? I believe so. There is no doubt that because Sony was the first to come out with a mainstream full-frame mirrorless camera, Canon and Nikon has been caught sleeping and has to now play catch up. Even the Nikon DF does not have the same impact as the a7/A7R because of its size, inclusion of the mirror box, and most notably, the price.
Johnnie Behiri reports:
I am happy to report that when experimenting with the camera I could not get it to “overheat”. Please understand that experimenting was not done in a very hot outdoor location (snowing out here). What I did was letting the camera to work in a hot room for 2 hours (starting recording again as it got to the 30 min limit) and no problem at all!

Really no overheat in video like other nex do? Interesting now in this size for video..good job
Just spoke to Henry’s Canada. They didn’t get a lot of stock of the 35mm f2.8, and so none have been shipped to any of the stores (other than Mississauaga). All others are being kept at the warehouse.
So… if you want one… might be a good idea to place an online order soon?
Not sure about The Camera Store, Vistek, Best Buy, etc….
I took delivery of my A7 yesterday and for most of today, I’ve been putting it through a good portion of my legacy lenses: it makes them look better than what I’ve been getting on any of my cropped cameras.
Well done Sony!
It could be cause you are now using your whole lens instead the center portion only. This is one of the primary reason to get a Full Frame mirrorless.
Also surprising, it makes a great 10MP cropped system. Outstanding images with the Sony 35mm f1.8 E and the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8. It handles the 17mm end superbly!
Just got my A7r few days ago but unfortunately my Zeiss 50F2 Planar ZM and the Metabones M to E mount adapter have yet to arrive. But I did purchase the LA-EA4 adapter to use with my remaining Alpha lens that I decided to keep. The LA-EA4 actually focus very quick and accurate. It’s actually faster and more accurate compare to my old a65 especially when using it on a slow focusing lens such as the SAL100M28. Also the camera looks really nice and when ever I look at it I would want to touch it and feel it in my hand. It’s a same that I for now couldn’t look at it with the 50F2 Planar ZM yet. I’m sure the both of them will look absolutely sexy together. I also tried to use it on the NEX powered kit zoom as well as the SEL35F18. The vignetting is very bad (a perfect circle shape) on the widest focal length of the zoom which it is just ok on other focal length. The 35mm isn’t that bad either. It gives you a very interesting look to post on instagram but not that suitable for any serious shooting. The image is still sharp on the SEL35f18 thought. The shutter sound is as loud as everyone describe it but it’s a very very very sexy nice sound. It’s like one of those V8 on a sport car that make loud but pleasing sound. It sounded almost like my old Canon F1 but much better. There is nothing to hate about the camera. It’s is almost perfect except for the feel of the shutter butter. It’s kinda rubbery and soft on half press. It’s feel really odd when the whole camera feel so premium. But I don’t find any problem on the shutter button location. Some one should give a medal to Sony for creating something so perfect. How would the world be without Sony? Walkman, Playstation and now the A7 and A7r. TQ Sony.
Regarding the shutter button, from your description, the reason why they would do that is to allow the user to half press the shutter, so it’ll “sorta” allow the photographer to time the shot faster/more accurately. The half press shutter also helps when you’re shooting at lower shutter speed as it’ll prevent your finger pressure on the shutter to cause the camera to vibrate (providing you’re having a good grip and posture). I’m really interested to test it now (waiting for my camera dealer to receive his stock), cause I definitely missed my Nikon D300s shutter button when switched to NEX 7.
Got my A7 today. Looks amazing so far but I won’t get a chance to shoot with it properly until the weekend. Th only real legitimate criticism I can vouch for so far is that it eats batteries. If you’re going out for a days shooting I can easily see you needing 3 or 4 to be on the safe side.
I got mine with the kit lens. I’ve got a lot of legacy full frame glass which I’ll be using a lot but I wanted an autofocus lens to work with it straight from the off and I can’t afford the LA-EA4 adapter at the moment to get my old alpha lenses working.
I’m interested to see just how bad the kit lens is so I’ll test it out over the weekend and see. I tend to find reviewers over exaggerate the crapness of kit lenses. I’ve taken some perfectly good photos in the past with kit lenses I’ve read bad reviews of. I will get the 35mm Zeiss next year though.
Got my a7, its wonderful, already modified the 16 2.8 to be much more forgiving on full frame. Ill be posting pics I take with it on my page 🙂

Maybe his didnt overheat, but I already saw on a forum a sample that overaheated in 88 degree weather. First came a warning and then it shut off on its own
Based on One Click Photographer’s comments on the facebook link, it sounds like the SLR Magic HyperPrime 50mm f/0.95 offers full 35mm frame coverage?? I’d be really interested in knowing if this is true or not, can anyone confirm?
I contacted SLR Magic, and they told me only the CINE T0.95 version covers the full 35mm frame, but the f/0.95 version only covers APS-C. The CINE is 3x the price of the normal version…
