UPDATED: Sony Korea launches a new teaser. New lens or “just” the Zeiss 55mm FE?

Dicahub spotted that Sony Korea teaser! It says: “2013.12.04.  What is visible, experience more. Coming Soon“. UPDATE: This is definitely an event related to some new Lens. The question is: Is it for a new lens or is this just a teaser for the official first shipment of the Zeiss 55mm FE lens?

At that point I need all the help I can get from my sources. Tell me, what is that teaser for? 🙂

  1. Maybe they are updating an A mount lens by launching a version with the exact same optical formula, changing the name of the AF technology and the color of the shell and doubling the price?

      1. It’ll be a new Sony technology called ‘super interchangeable modular dimensional lens’ where you can interchange extra lenses on the end of the lens (like they did for that first NEX pancake). It’ll be a set of 5 modules you can screw onto the end of the Zeiss 55/1.8 to go wide angle, fish eye, telephoto, macro and super telephoto. All in one kit! Only has 6 different assemblies and weighs a scant 3 lbs.

  2. But seriously… what we a7r users need (so we can sell the Nikon Stuff):

    – 14-24 F2.8
    – 24-70 F2.8
    – 70-200 F2.8

    1. Oh, you! Just use the Nikon 14-24mm. An FE native one will be just as big. If you want giant AF lenses, you can use them on the A7r.

Meanwhile, let’s work on native lenses that suit the system best… some very high image quality lenses that can match or out-resolve the sensor (i.e. NOT a bunch of f/2.8 zooms that are an exercise in compromise)

24 (f/2.8), 85 (f/1.8?), 135mm (this is a hard one for FE. Not expecting much here) all come to mind.

You’ll see your f/4 OSS wide angle zoom soon enough.

      1. You are right I do not think high quality fast FF lenses with fast AF etc will be substantially smaller than the Nikon trio which I already have Small reasonable speed high performance primes are what I am looking for .

    1. leaf shutter at 1/1600th – This would make me buy two of these cameras straight away, one for work and one for home.

In the meantime has anyone tried these cameras out with the Phottix Odin triggers to see how the Hypersync behaves on the two different shutter types?

    2. Why not just have electronic shutter in the body like some recent M43 bodies (and maybe throw in IBIS as well)? That way owners of existing FE lenses will also have the option of silent shutter.

      1. If I’m not mistaken, electronic shutter reduces the sensor light gather capability, so for now it’s a technical limitation.

  3. It probably just more lens announcements. Probably the new 85mm G-Series lens. It’s too late in the season for a new camera body especially after the A7r launch. There were rumours of a new 85mm f/1.4, and a 120mm f/2.8 a-mount lenses on all of the web sites in september. These rumours appeared at the same time the new 70200, and 70400 were rumoured but quickly dismissed. A new 85mm G-series lens based on the minolta 85mm G (d) would be excellent. It would cost $500.00 bucks less and probably perform as well as the Zeiss. Sony’s margin would be larger because it wouldn’t have to pay Zeiss royalties.

  4. Multiple credible news sites confirmed in their articles that the is a teaser for FE 55mm F1.8 ZA, whose pre-order will beging on November 4th.

Furthermore, E 18-105mm F4 G OSS lens will also be released on December 10th, according to the local news sites.
