Question…about all these lenses for the a7/a7r…
I’m sort new to photography and I get confused when I see lenses sometimes because I don’t know whether they are made for full frame cameras or made for APS-C size sensor cameras, or if that even matters. Well, I’m sure it matters. Anyway, take for example the listed Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 lens on this post that’s $150 off. Is that “made for a full frame camera” or how would I ever know when I look at lenses. Also, by getting a lens like that for the a7 (and an adapter I assume?), what would I be missing out on compared to actual Sony FE lenses that are made for this camera?
Maybe this isn’t the place to ask this but I’m excited to grab an a7 soon and while it’s clear that the kit lens isn’t widely praised in reviews, I’m wondering what I should get while keeping costs relatively low for now. For example, the 35mm and 55mm Zeiss lenses seem to be awesome but might be too much for me at this time. Maybe later. And if I wanted to shoot some headshots, shouldn’t I stay away from the 35mm because lenses that wide can distort a face a little? I thought I read that somewhere.
Thanks!
Don’y buy anything else. If you don’t know what you need yourself you’re probably wasting money by buying what other people want.
We were all beginners once, and the only dumb one is the question we are scared to ask.
WRT lenses, you ought be able to tell by the codes whether they are intended for aps-c. If they don’t have such a code, then they are for FF, as I understand it. Sigma’s “Digital Only” lenses, for example, have a code “DC” as part of their name. This indicates they are for APS.C. So the Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 II DG HSM (bad example, it is Canon fit, but there you go) is a FF capable lens.
Any rumors regarding a new version of the RX100? ;D I would love it if they could squeeze in an (even if tiny) EVF into that body! My dream camera!
