DPReview (Click here) posted a mirrorless cameras roundup. And for each category you can see that NEX cameras are having the highest scores:
Highest score beginner mirroless camera: Sony NEX C3 (Price check: [shopcountry 7207])
Highest score intermediate camera: SONY NEX 5n (Price check: [shopcountry 8452])
Highest score advanced camera: SONY NEX 7 (Price check: [shopcountry 8454])
DigitalPhotographySchool (Click here) posted the full NEX-5n review: “Image quality is superbly sharp and fully colour saturated. But attaching the lens make the combo a largish proposition.
I was also a little startled to see the PDF manual erroneously claim the CMOS sensor carried 14.2 megapixels, when it actually has a 16.1 million pixel population. Makes a reviewer’s life tough!“.

Craig: “I was wondering if you’d be interested in viewing and possibly sharing a gallery of images shot with my Sony NEX 5N with a [shoplink 10786 ebay]Voigtlander Color-Skopar 21mm f/4[/shoplink] Pancake lens to help your readers ‘see’ what this wonderful camera and lens can do in ALL KINDS of situations. I’ve owned the camera and lens now for just under two months.

Metthew Belcher (Click here) posted a Zeiss 24mm DOF test made with the NEX-5n.

The black Sony NEX-5 with 18-55mm kit lens sells for $499 only at Amazon (Click here). And I noticed that the camera is the most sold camera for a very long time now at Amazon (Click here to see the ranking).

Just thought I’d share my first snaps with the Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 that showed up last night mounted on the NEX-5N.
Handheld with barely any light I just fired off a few before heading to bed to see what it could do-

Joey, They all look noticeably noisy. Were they shot at >6400 ISO?
The black and whites were using the high contrast NEX-5N Black and white in camera filter and I didn’t take my time at all.
Here’s the exif data from Flickr for teh B&W’s
Camera Sony NEX-5N
Exposure 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture f/2.5
Focal Length 24 mm
ISO Speed 3200
Exposure Bias +1 EV
Actually, I was looking at the color ones and via a color corrected monitor.
ISO3200 plus +1 exposure bias = ISO6400.
Thanks for your reply. 🙂
Hmm… I just checked the DPReview: Sony NEX-C3 indeed has a higher score (74% + Silver Award) then Olympus E-PM1 (71% + Silver Award).
However, the article actually says:
“…Although the difference couldn’t be described as ‘stand-out,’ the PEN Mini is, by a whisker, our choice of the current Beginners’ camera bunch.
In the end, the PEN’s small body size, coupled with the clever, collapsible kit lens and excellent out-of-camera JPEG image quality give it a tiny bit of an edge…”
Interesting conclusion, minding the score of both systems.
Hanging big Alpha lenses on a small NEX body doesn’t sound like a winner.
NEX 7 – Weight Approx. 10.3 oz (291g) (excl battery & media)
E-mount – Carl Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 Lens Weight : 7.9 oz (225g)
Alpha-mount – 24mm f2.0 Lens Weight : 19.6 oz. (555g)
The NEX 7 with a Zeiss 24mm E-mount lens weighs less than the 24mm Alpha-mount lens without a camera. Duh!
Here’s a video sample with the Zeiss 24mm 1.8 I used the 24p FX and 60p AVCHD setting.
The detail on her face in the low light when you watch it in 1080 is pretty good, the focusing isn’t all that fast though.
I have lots to learn but I like a lot of what I’m seeing.

I’m wondering if the stabilized 50mm 1.8 OSS would be better suited for video. It’s just not all that wide for shooting indoors.
On a tripod it would be much better obviously but the type of interviews and videos I do won’t work on a tripod.
