  1. I see those ebay prices and two things come to mind, “Patience is a virtue” and “A fool and his money are soon parted”…

  2. I was able to pre-order a Nex-7 body on the US Sony.com website a couple of days ago and was given a ship date of April 3, 2012. The site just updated my order to a ship date of December 20, 2011! On the other hand, it is currently December 21, 2011 and the order still says “Processing” and my credit card hasn’t been charged yet. Just an FYI.

    1. Sony defaults to the day after the order on the web site. Not sure why, but April 3rd is a much more reliable estimate. It is possible it could ship earlier if they get some cancellations and you move up the list, but do not rely on the date shown by Sony until is says ready for shipping.

  3. I went to the Sony site a few days ago and ordered the Nex-7 body. It said then that my order would be shipped January 21.

With all the news of B&H getting them in, I called Sony this morning to check on my order. The operator said that it was scheduled to go out on 12/23.

    Can’t wait!

  4. Another thing to think about if people are going the Leica route. The price gets higher and higher as you get wider and faster. The 35mm is $1300 more than the 50. So to get the same equivalent you’re NEX will cost an extra $1300. Still cheaper than an M9 but won’t get the approximate 1 stop difference in DOF.

  5. Unless the buyer on Ebay somehow made even more on the NEX-7 by flipping it again, he/she is going to have a letdown when the body is available at $1199 fairly soon.

Just another thought here. Is this all about “Tech Envy,” or will this camera “automagically” make everyone a better photographer???

Oh yeah, right, in this “terrible” economy there are still those with money to burn. Four grand is not pocket change to most readers of this column, I’d conjecture….

      1. If you looked at the A-mount lens suggestions from a month ago, you’d think this forum was ALL rich.. 50mm f1, 600mm f4 etc lol

      2. Funny how you keep repeating that the money must have been pocket change for the person who bought it, as if that justifies the buy. It doesn’t. It’s not a collectors item. It will be readily available in a matter of a few weeks. It will depreciate to the same point of all the other bodies.

So the person who bought it, payed over $2,500, ending up at over three times the actual value, for the honour of having something exclusive for three weeks.

No matter how rich you are, it doesn’t make sense. On any level. It is still a consumer good.

  6. Is not madness on my point of view, it’s Christmas and people want to give this as a present or to have it for his/her Christmas.

Well if something does not exist in the market of-course prices can be disputed that high or even more. Not all of us have money to burn like some of them.

For me i want one too but i will have to wait for a couple months, those who got it enjoy it. 🙂

NEX-7 is the best camera for this year and up to the next until the FF arrive the NEX-9.

Happy Christmas to all it has been a good year and i hope next will be much better.

  7. I didn’t understand if NEX-7 is unavailable only in the US, because all mentioned shops and auctions are US ones. Are there in stock cameras in Europe?

  8. Hehe this is geting silly but it’s the buyers market!
I was about to buy a NEX-5 for my birthday in june but figured I could wait until the NEX-7 got released since I didn’t think I could live without a viewfinder. Seems like I will get one for my next birthday instead 🙂

  9. These stupid bids have to be review sites that couldn’t get their hands on a 7 and need the data to bring in hits for their site. That’s the only way I can justify $3700 for that.

  10. I had a phone call with Sony Center Prag today and they have few nex-7, body only. And one of them is mine!!!! 🙂

  11. Stopped by B&H in person today. They had no NEX-7’s, and the few people I spoke with didn’t know when they had them in last or would have them in next. They also wouldn’t take preorders in person because they didn’t know when they would be in stock next, which they said only happens when it’s going to be longer than a month.
