  1. Is the Panasonic GX8 the X-Pro2 I’ve been waiting for? seriously?i mean, where is, at least, the hybrid viewfinder?

  2. Haha, for that gas issue. Perhaps a d810 is the cure. Just joking, seriously.

As for gx8, before release not much is known. Form-factor of that camera is okay though.

  3. Fuji’s R&D is just not fast enough and their nearest competition – Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, Samsung…is extremely sharp. I’ve been saying that for a while – many considered me to be a troll. Nevertheless I’ve been a first wave adopter – loving the concept and fresh ideas – but from the beginning I was concerned about Fuji’s true ability to keep on developing new technologies and cameras as a mini-player, in one steady X-series flow that can last decades. The X-T1 is a fine camera, yes, I like it a lot. It’s now having the firmware the X-Pro1 should have received at its release. The X-T10 is good to fill in the lower end and generate some margin for a few months. And what’s more out there to please the potential buyers? The X-A2? The X100T? What’s coming up? Even another X-Pro2 with a Sony 20-24MP sensor is too little, too late – and a float of even the most addicted Fuji fans will be leaving if this kind of ‘technology freeze’ lasts another 6-8-12 months. Look at ebay. Full of X-series all over at very disappointing price levels. Pocket change. You can easily have a used but still mint condition X-Pro1 in a price fork of 200-400$. With my Nikon gear I always had a fair return to buy the next gen but the second hand market just pays the price of the real value and looks at the future a system really has. Fujifilm needs to get awake and finally make a move into a new era – or this very beautiful story will be over despite all that nice glass.

    1. Overlooking so many facts, writing so much nonsense. Guess you just have to switch to Sony as you just cant take any decent pictures with a Fuji anymore.

      1. Precisely the blind spot from many fanboys. It’s not about Sony or any other brand. I’ve got libraries full of X-trans pictures now, but the day Fuji quits the X-series arena all RAF support will dry up pretty soon. In further versions of OS’s, Lr, Ps,… Forget the sidekick solutions like Iridient. It is concern about the true chances of survival of these X-series in the market, the one we invested in. Fuji film’s R&D just moves to slow. Again, look at e-bay. That’s the chemical test how strong this system is. It just isn’t.

        1. ebay is full of X-E1 / X-Pro1. Real indicator of brand health are lenses and new bodies. Fuji lenses and X-T1 are not that cheap on ebay…
Why anyone would buy a X-E1 / X-Pro1 with slow auto-focus except for the lower price ?

(Add to the mix that Fuji bodies are overpriced)

PS : I’m an X-E1 owner, I find the IQ really nice, but AF is poor especially in low-light / tracking. I can imagine why people want to sell it for newer model (I hope X-T2 will be DSLR-like in AF speed).

        2. First, there is no indication that Fuji will abandon the X-series or X-Trans, so worrying about this is like worrying about buying a a car today today because the manufacturer might drop the line in the future.

Second, support for older raw files stays in the latest updates to the raw converter. Nothing gets deleted from raw converters; the converter merely adds more camera profiles. If I had an Epson R-D1 from 2004, I could still use it with the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw even though the camera itself was discontinued eight years ago.

Finally, every camera system is subject to substantial depreciation. Especially after the downturn in camera sales post-2011. You see a lot of Nikon D7000 advertised on eBay for about one-third the 2010 price, but the ones that actually sell go for about one-tenth the 2010 price.

          1. No, today not, the X-trans is very alive. But if Fuji focusses on 2016 year to release a next step of technology, I’m sure dark clouds will be over the X-series – that’s what I want to express. I’m pretty sure that a lot of Fuji adopters (like me) wouldn’t have the same preference if they had to make the same choice today, to switch system. The X-Pro1 fell far below a credible second hand prices less than 2 years after its release AND while it was still in the displays. At a given moment, even Fuji started seriously depricing it (I can have it now for half the price I spend btw). I wish all the adventurers asking more than 400-500$ a lot of strength. Mine went away for less than… 300$. That’s about 1/4th of the price, it was in those days 2 years old and in a fair condition. I really know for what I can sell Nikon gear with the same age.

          2. Actually, I don’t think you have a clue what Nikon equipment goes for now. When I changed, I sold off most of my Nikon equipment for reasonably poor rates, and since then they have become considerably worse.

Here’s the harsh reality – unless it is an absolutely minty example of a new product (camera, lens, or flash): 50% off the retail price. Anything below that in age or condition: 75%+ off. I delayed selling my 85mm 1.4 AF-D just a little too long, and got half what I was offered a month earlier because, “everyone buys G-lenses now!” I have a 28-70 f/2.8 AF-S that is worth absolutely zilch because an inferior but newer 24-70 f/2.8 AF-S G exists. When the replacement to that lens arrives next year, the 28-70 will be more useful as a doorstop.

Cameras are consumer electronics products now. Buy them for the use and enjoyment you get from them today, not the resale value you can get tomorrow, because there is none.

And as to your own unsubstantiated speculation over what Fuji might do in 2016, you might as well be saying “There is no evidence for the impending giant alien lobster invasion, but that shouldn’t mean we should stop panicking about their arrival” Fuji appears to be making some money from its X-System, why would it suddenly kill one of its golden geese?

          3. The 28-70/2.8 and 80-200/2.8 are good lens. I was thinking about picking one. I think most consumers just want good new stuff after all.

          4. This, to me is a very silly thread!

I sold my $7000 D4 for $3900 in mint condition, but I bought it to take photos and not as an investment. (It earned me about $10k of sales).

I now have a Fuji X series. I bought the bits because I like them and they produce the results I want. Fuji seems to be very responsive to customer feedback, much more so than Nikon, and my X-T1 now delivers new functions that it never had when I bought it. E.g. electronic shutter, and at no additional cost!

I still love and use my Nikon too (D750), but all photography is either for my own pleasure (=hobby) or to earn cash from sales of images. Q.E.D. case closed.

          1. Look at what happened to the TX, GX, S-Pro and a few other Fujifilm series. Or what they did do with professional color film. I think a lot of fanboys in these days indeed required a tissue.

          2. Look at what Canon did to FD. Look at so many manufacturers who vanished. Look at what Sony does to NEX and Alpha line. Who the hell cares?

          3. The TX series sold for a dozen years (and well into the film age), the GX ran for 21 years, and the S-Pro range was discontinued when Nikon decided not to supply any more bodies to rivals.

Fuji is discontinuing its professional colour films now… well, guess what? It’s 2015 and the number of people still using colour film professionally can be counted on the fingers of one knee.

    2. I would bet that this idea is in the back of many Fuji users minds. It may not rise to the level of fear that you express but I would guess that it’s there. For me, it is not important that Fuji releases the cutting edge uber-bodies that Sony continues to announce. I’m not sure that’s their target market. But it is important that the bodies be broadly competent and competitive. Certainly no Fuji body is competent with video IQ right now. And while the AF system has been markedly improved since I’ve owned my X-T1, it’s only “great” relative to where it started. That said, the X-system is a competent system overall with great glass—and it continues to improve. As long as Fuji keeps pace in terms of IQ I feel good casting my lot with them.

  4. On the other hand….. yes, they’ve not really kept up, but the basic cameras are really very good (despite the continual catchup w/focus speed), IQ is great, lenses are very very good. Still a very solid line. Much of the whining is over tweaks individuals want (and they have addressed a lot of short comings), or envy for neat-o features (note technical term) others have. And while I kind of which they’d be more like sony or others, I really don’t want to replace my camera every 2 years. With firmware tweaks and quality lenses, 4-5 years is probably easy unless you’re a gear head.

      1. I’d love 24mp, but I’m struggling to justify it. When I really look thoughtfully at my pix I rarely, if ever, think ‘damn, if only had more detail or resolution here’. But that’s me. I suspect in 10 years we’ll be having this same conversation but saying “I can live with 160 mp, but want 240”.:-)

        1. Smaller pixels are, more details you have. Fuji’s only issue is that out-dated sensor with limited dynamic range.

The new BSI sensor put forward by Sony is quite good. Make it 24MP FF or APSC, I think I will be happy for quite a while.

          1. I’d hardly consider Fuji sensors as having a limited dynamic range.

I’m sure the next line of x cameras will be a nice jump overall.

          2. It does… Without the help of DR you only have like 8ev or so. With DR and high iso(800) it start to cause color banding and noise… After all it modifies the sensor of nex5r.

Anyway a jump is welcomed. It’s not quite convenient to do bracketing all the time and you would need a tripod more often. Fuji already has a line of compelling lens. It only needs a modern sensor to become leading.

I just throw some money on a nikon 1635. I wasn’t too happy with the lens but hardly any choice since it gives a great body a chance here.

          3. Maybe – I’m skeptical that most folks can hand hold well enough to get anywhere near the resolution the lenses or sensors can produce, even at a reasonably fast shutter speed. But the dynamic range is pretty great. Maybe not leading, but great.

          4. Unless you go over 36MP, otherwise you can handle them easily. Fuji is okay, I would say.

      1. You can do a large print of an 8 mp picture if your viewing distance, from picture to viewer, is far enough away. But if you print dense PPI for high resolution then eventually you find that the Nikon d810 really gives you only an 10×12 ultraprint. It’s for those that want to stand right up to a print and see the detail – check Ming Thein on ultraprints.

  5. It’s not, but… I will be dissappinted if Fuji will not put in X-Pro2 some features that almost all its competitors have been offering, including GX-8: Custom Modes (C1-C3), at least -2EV AF sensitivity (no more poor 0EV) for better low light focusing, a few dirrect Fn buttons (not just 1), 1/2-1/3EV bracketing (not just 1EV), +/-5 NR jpeg setting + Off. If it also had TIFF16bit file saving in camera Raw converter (why only to jpgs?), that would be great. And I would not be tempted by Sony for sure.

    1. Let’s compare your wishlist with the current X-T1 (safe to assume that X-Pro2 will have better specs, right?):

      Custom modes: Q menu, check.
-2EV AF: -2.5 with current sensors, check.
      More Fn buttons: check.
Bracketing: errr… Personally, I’d rather see more bracketing steps than smaller increments.
NR off setting: people keep asking this because they hate the “waxy” effect (and so do I). This has nothing to do with NR, it’s called “Image Intelligence”, so don’t be surprised when you finally get “NR off” setting and it won’t do any good to the waxiness.
16 bit in-camera TIFF: please no, just make a normal converter for PC/Mac. And iOS/Android are welcome too, of course.

Lastly, you being tempted by Sony has nothing to do with Fuji. You don’t project your strip club experience to your family life, right?
