X-T1 Vertical Battery Grip ($ 249,99): USA: AmazonUS / BHphoto / Adorama / EUROPE: wexDE / wexUK /
_ _ _
Hi all
Just about 2½ months after it hit the market, there is already the first $100 price drop on the X-E2 (body and kit) available at BHphoto here (all combinations)! At the moment, AmazonUS has only the black body with a $100 rebate. There are also other X-cameras in offer, just check them in the overview down below (save up to $300!).
But that’s just the first part of Fuji’s aggressive deal-attack!
Always according to the new source (who told us yesterday of the upcoming lens rebates), the lens deals should start on February 9th and end March 2nd (or 3rd).
The savings should go from $150 to $250.
If the source is right, you could get the [shoplink 13829]XF 27mm[/shoplink] for just $200 and the [shoplink 12892]XF 55-200[/shoplink] for $500! But also other XF lenses will be a lot cheaper.
So don’t buy lenses until February 9th!

It seems Henry’s is also selling the XF35mm and XF18mm $399 ($200 off).
It’s a Fuji Canada deal, so all Canadian stores are selling at this price.
Canada seems to be getting an awful lot of love from Fuji these days. Prices of Fuji gear are surprisingly stable over here (Austria) and I’ve got to say I’m a wee bit jealous.
I emailed Fuji Austria to ask whether we’d be seeing similar cashback programs or deals in the future. I’m still waiting for a reply but I reckon they won’t tell me. 😉
Fuji Canada does have some good deals, it’s quite surprising. Usually Canadians don’t get nice rebates like that.
But once you stick in the taxes here in QC, at 15%… you will be glad for any rebates (which are usually $50…).
Any News about the Black X100S shipping date.
After the release of X-T1 I deeply regret having bought the X-E2 just one month earlier. I could never imagine that within one month of my purchase of the X-E2 Fujifilm would release a superior camera for only $200 above the price of the X-E2. In one way it feels like Fujifilm don’t bother about their existing customers. Now the X-E2 just feels like av very bad investment.
It depends on your needs. Some people like the rangefinder look and despise the hump. If that’s the case then no matter the price difference, they’d opt for the XE-2.
Well, you’re right. I just get sad when I see that my X-E2 fall in value much faster than I could have imagined. It’s mostly the short time lag between the X-E2 and X-T1 releases that surprises me.
The fall in value doesn’t take away from it’s capabilities. If it was good enough before then it still will be. The camera value only matters if you are looking to sell it or think of it as an investment. Investments they are not, they will always drop in value.
New cameras will always be released so and we can’t expect a company to stop producing new tech just to avoid making previous cameras seem older.
As has been mentioned, people who love the X-E range may not like the X-T range. It’s also aimed a little higher up the range as well.
I see your point. Of course my X-E2 is the same both before and after the release of the X-T1. What surprises me though is the short lag between the releases, three months, and the tight price span between the two models, i.e. $200. As noted below, this makes me wonder if the X-E2 is a model Fuji just wants to forget about and leave behind.
@Tbergman – X-E2 and X-T1 are just two different kinds/styles of camera and if you say “just $200” between them is because you were not sure about what kind of camera you were after.
On the different specs, all brands introduce new things with new models and at least Fujifilm has a firmware update policy that doesn’t leave customers behind as I can say when I consider what they did even after discontinuing my X100, turning it in an almost new camera.
About loosing value. when it comes to digital cameras just forget because is just a matter of time before ALL loose value in a way that made me keep all the ones I bought before, just because I’m not changing as soon as something new comes to the market when I decide to buy a new camera the value of the previous is so low that I don’t care about and it’s the reason why I still have 3 Nikon DSLRs (D70, D200 and D700) and I will keep my X100 when I make my mind and buy either the X-T1 or X-Pro2.
@António. I guess you are right. I wanted a weather.sealed camera, but didn’t realize that until after X-T1 was released. But I’m still a bit shaken by the short lag, as I written above. And I can’t help being suspicious about Fuji releasing a weather-sealed camera more than four months before they have a weather-sealed lens. Why the hurry?
Owning digital cameras is about losing value, I agree with you there. My complaint (and the cause to all my whining) in this case is that I never could imagine that the camera would loose more than 10 percent of it’s value (when bought in store, that is) within three months following it’s release.
There is no law of the universe that says the value has to plummet immediately, despite the ‘common wisdom’ of the interweb. Rather, the price plummets because of the marketing approach of the manufacturers.
The price campaign is known to some degree at launch: Way overprice, then merely overprice, then ‘bargain price,’ all the time making a profit. Once initial sales start to slacken, trump up a new model with minor if any differences, start buzz on the interweb by having affiliate site ‘reviewers’ and sock puppets start to talk it up so much you begin to feel really inadequate with your 9 month old model.
You soon allow yourself to be convinced the minor features and exact same image quality means you should spend $1200 all over again, and the $1200 you spent last year is now worth $500. You do it, and don’t stop to think that that must-have luxury toy you are buying now will be worth $500 one year from now.
The interweb justifies it by saying ‘that’s just how electronics work’ but we’re not talking about components we are talking about finished consumer products. Planned obsolescence and willing fanboy sheep on the interweb put up with it.
Because once you have everything you need, why should you need to buy something again to make just as good pictures? You shouldn’t. The interweb photo web sites are basically huge marketing machines designed to feed your inadequacy and convince you it can easily be solved just by dollars. You give in. Your pictures are the same as last years. Next year you will do it again.
It’s just the way things are, they’ll tell you.
@ronin. Thank you for outlining the dynamics of camera pricing. I am struck by how easily companies are playing on my desires. But a weather sealed camera would surely still be something special …
At least you didn’t buy a D600… are you still within in the return/refund window for your purchase? I’ve been through a year of post-purchase regret which fortunately Nikon eventually resolved.
I’m trying to decide between the X-E2 and the X-T1 myself, and would really love either of those with the 10-24mm. Leaning toward the X-T1 … but going that route means a 2 month + wait. Imagine the images you can make with your X-E2 during that time, might be worth the $200? Don’t know if that’s a consolation … if not, just be glad it’s not a D600 : ).
@Dave. Thanks for your encouraging words. All in all I’m glad that I bought a mirrorless Fujifilm. On the margin I would have wanted a weather sealed body, but I’m happy that I no longer carry around a giant Canon SLR. I have taken a couple of pictures with the X-E2 so no return or refund.
I was wondering what problem did you had with the D600? The dust oil issues? And how did Nikon solved it? after a year?
Why I have a XE 2 and it takes killer shots, The X T 1 is more for the sports shooter and yes I want one to but will be saving for the 16-55 f 2.8 first Its the Glass that makes the shot and Fuji has some of the best for its price point.
Fujifilm is doing what it takes to survive in this wild world we live in and doing a great job.
I’m starting to save for a 16-55 f2.8 too. Once it is released, we may have an X-T2 in the market. Tried to sell my X-E2 at a discount of $ 200, but could not. Sure, I understand Fujifilm’s position in the global market and they make great products.
I agree… Fujifilm should really a lot more to keep the value of existing products already sold.
My e1 kit is really worth less than held now, less than a year later.
This is unfortunately how Fuji is and its not very nice. I guess lots of people who took the E2 would have preferred the T1, and no doubt Fuji knew that but they have their ideas. Same for the lens pricing, you get a reasonable deal only when you buy a body at the same time. Otherwise you are captive to funny prices.
If you can take that, keep buying, otherwise a system with some price competition or a future is a better place to spend.
Tbergman.
Being sad that your camera depreciates immediately: understandable.
Accusing Fuji of abandoning existing customers: unfair.
Fuji treats its customers great, compared to competitors. Fuji listens to feedback, implements highly requested features into new products, and continuously releases firmware upgrades to its older cameras so they keep getting better long after you buy them.
No, Fuji doesn’t arrange its product cycle to optimize for maintaining the “investment” value of existing cameras. That would mean innovating slowly, letting its flagship offerings fall behind offerings from other companies. And even if Fuji didn’t upgrade its offerings, per your gripes, then someone would still gripe that Fuji is so slow to update its offerings, so Fuji must not care about its customers. Can’t please everyone, or even anyone sometimes.
As a customer, you just have to accept that camera bodies from any brand, even Leica, lose much of their value very quickly. In no way is a camera body a financial investment. Bodies are the opposite of a financial investment. You don’t buy a camera to hold its cash value for a long time. Camera bodies are not bonds or certificates of deposit. You buy a camera because you need to take pictures right now, and you pick the best one for you that’s available right now, knowing full well that there will always be something better a few months around the corner. Same with lots of other technology products with a fast innovation cycle.
Right after I got my X-E1, the X-E2 came out. Shucks. Doesn’t matter. When I get a camera, it’s a decision to just stick with that gear for 3-5 years, and ignore all the improvements that occur in between. Then 3-5 years later, maybe I’ll upgrade to whatever is out then, and enjoy feeling a huge leap forward. But in the meantime, pretty much any camera these days is more than enough to take great pictures. Ultimately, what matters is taking pictures with an imperfect camera that’s “good enough”, not always having the most advanced camera at all times.
I hope Fuji keeps iterating on its cameras as quickly and boldly as they can. I won’t be buying the great cameras they release over the next 3-5 years. But I want them to survive, if not thrive, in the meantime so that when it does come time to upgrade, Fuji will still be around and the X cameras available will be vastly improved.
@d775 You’re right. I have just had a hard time to cope with the feelings that arose when I saw the X-T1. Suddenly no one even talked about the X-E2 anymore. I guess that the wisdom is that one shouldn’t mix emotions with the logic of the market-place. Maybe I should stop surfing at places like FujiRumours and enjoy my camera in the meantime. My last camera was a Canon40D. Upgrading to the X-E2 has increased image quality immensely. So I guess I should be satisfied.
I am wondering if the rebate offering is in response to CP+, or more specifically to any offerings Sony (or others) may announce at or around the event.
If Sony announces a 24mp camera around the same price point [NEX 7 replacement for example] (this is more a marketing argument, so trying to avoid who’s pixels are/will be better or if the extra pixels are needed) then even the recent release of the X-T1 may look like (“look like” being the operative phrase) Fuji is behind, so a price reduction may be required at least in the short run.
It is just a thought wondering if Fuji has some advanced info driving the pricing.
In the Netherlands, where I am living now, never are these deals to be had. Does anyone else live here and know about it?
I am in Germany and we have not any of these deals as well. Rico once explained that Fuji is earning money in Germany and they don’t want to make this market inprofitable with deals if they don’t need to. Maybe this holds for the Netherlands, too?
Yep, Holland is left in the cold as well 🙁
do you think BH or Adorama will have a fuji x100s deal as well?
didn’t hear anything about
The sales prices are already available here in Canada.
Any news of UK based deals Patrick?
nope
There are Fuji lens cashback offers at http://fujicashback.co.uk/. You can save £300.
oh yes, the cashback deals until March 31! thanks for the reminder… reported them in this post.
Several weeks ago I wonder if it`d be a good idea getting the X E-2. I fear it presents some issues or even grave issues. I think so because one can`t find a consistent view about the camera (there are very different points of view). And some “respectful” sites don`t yet publish a full review. I fear they`ve chosen a merciful silence in order to avoid a negative review.
Now, the XT-1 seems to be a super X E2. Some of the few reviews about X E2 say that the JPEG images are badly soft and that the AF is better but is not enough.
So, the XT-1 should be definitely better in those fields..???. But I like more the “style” of the XE-2…I hope that now it will appear more info about the XE-2…
Steve Huff did a review of the E2 and he was happy with the autofocus, he has not been a big fan of the E1/XPro1 so that should say something about the E2.
If you take fotos of moving subjects the T1 sounds the better camera as it has predictive auto focus.
Fuji tunes the JPEG’s it seems, it is fairly easy to use RAW with something like Apeture, even easier than JPEG on the camera. But that’s our little secret 😉
Hi, Tim, I`ve looked for the Steve Huff review of the XE-2, but… I didn’t find it. Please could you copy to me the link?? In the index of S. Huff site does not appear a review of the X E2…
I don’t see that the XT-1 is a super XE-2. I think it’s just an XE-2 in different drag. Instead of the instamatic type body it has a pretend SLR type body.
Better gaskets, ok. Other stuff is just maybe a minor grade up from what is already offered, if that. Your photos will look the same.
How much (more or less) is the extra cost for shipping to the US from Canada and how long do the shipping usually takes?
I don’t live in the US but I buy things there at the half of the price than in my country sacrificing guarantee… so I wouldn’t sacrificy anything else buying it on Canada… the only thing is that I (or friends) travel to the States, but not Canada… so I was wondering (“I wonder…” as in Rodríguez song from “Searching for Sugar Man” :P)
On CameraCanada a 5 day UPS shipping to US its $29.00 CDN, so it’s fast and not expensive (there is a faster option 1-2 day for 79).
I was forgetting about taxes? Any additional taxes buying from Canada and being sent to US?
The 35mm 1.4 instead of 599 USD, it is sold at 399 CDN = 358.59 USD!!! so a lot cheaper. But I don’t know if additional taxes are applied?
You should check for duty on cameras being imported from Canada to the US – I’ve bought product (but not cameras) going the other way US to Canada and have been blindsided once or twice by unexpected duty charges. That being said, the CDN $ is taking a pounding right now and is projected to be weaker by the time the X-T1 ships so that difference might make up for it. If your friends are in Seattle, there are several stores in Vancouver that are advertising pre-orders on the X-T1 – might cost less to drive across the border to pick one up and drive back with it tucked underneath the spare wheel … or in your camera bag (you’ll might want to leave the boxes : ).
Thanks for the answer Dave!! I’m considering buying the 35 mm 1.4 now and later the X-T1, and didn’t know about duty charges. I’m searching info on the web and have read mixed info from no charges due to NAFTA to items kept at the border until you pay duty :O. Also a 2000 USD limit.
Any one has bought a camera or lenses from Canada to the US? What has been your experience with taxes and duty charges?
Thanks!!!
Has anyone ever ordered from digitalrev?
Yes. I’ve ordered an X-M1 once. Product quality no problem. Fast delivery.
I wouldn’t recoomend digitalRev if u live in US as it does not come w US warranty. Don’t be fooled by their own Warranty.
Are they going to have these lens deals with the xt1? Love to pick up the 27 for 200 to go along with the xt1
Are there deals like these in Europe?
This drop is great news for XT-1 black friday shoppers. I predict some great lens and body deals.
The XT1 probably won’t ship in volume until May. That means within six months we should be able to get the gear at a much more reasonable price.
Do you think there will be any more X100s deals? thanks
To Tbergman – I totally understand your point of view, but as other posters have mentioned, digital cameras are the “worst” investment, unfortunately. Also, Fuji is still in the red, for this business unit, so I guess they are under pressure to release new bodies in view of gaining more market and become profitable ( I am just guessing – I have no insight info).
In all fairness though, the rumor of a new body to be released within 3 month of the X-E2 shipping was already abound (on this very blog). Some folks actually cancelled their X-E2 pre-order, just based on the rumor. Granted, rumors are rumors, but the X-T1 was not a total surprise, coming off the left field (pun intended on this Super Bowl day 🙂
The X-E2 is still an excellent and very capable camera. Enjoy it for what it can offer. There will always be a new toy on the horizon (start saving for the X-T2 😉 ).
@LucS. I read the X-T1-rumour too late, unfortunately. For the next purchase I’ll do my homework more thoroughly. (I already have set up a X-T2 savings account. :-))
Anyone sells xe2 for $400 to upgrade to xT1, i will take it. Seriously!
Or x100s for $700, please ping me. Thanks!
Just want to share my thought. I’m going to buy X-E2 rather than X-T1. I use DSLR for many years and am really bored in DSLR shape. I of course really like range-finder style. Plus I belive X-E2 is still one of the nicest mirrorless camera.
I just tried XE2 and liked most of it a lot, except the EVF is a dog to look through in the bright Southwest sun here. Glad I rented one before buying it. The T1 sounds like a ‘fixed’ E2; will likely get that one. If there was an add-on EVF (like the VF4 for Oly Pens) I’d go for that plus E2 over the T. Optional hump would work for me.
Just to add, the E2 was just fine on cloudy/overcast shooting days, and at night; the issue I had was in the sun in bright contrast. If it had an add-on eyecup or EVF I likely would have bought one by now.
