Rumor

No folks, no X-T1 rumor today (until now)! But it could be of interest for all those owning Zeiss Touit lenses for Fuji X-mount.

According to an anonymous source, the firmware update (PDAF and LMO support) for the Touit lenses will come within the end of January.

Another new source instead said that the firmware update will come in February. This source also said that further Touit lenses are under development.

As usual, take it with a grain of salt.

FR is still one of the youngest and smallest rumor sites. The network of sources is slowly growing, but any further help is appreciated. If you have informations to share, then you can do it completely anonymously via rumor box (you can give yourself a fake name, so that I can recognize you in future) or also via email at fujirumor@gmail.com. Don’t hesitate to contact me. Thanks, Patrick.

  1. I’ve always wondered, does Zeiss really put the level of image and build quality, found in their M-mount lenses, into these Touit lenses?

    1. overpriced, yes. mediocre, no. the touits i think were developed first for sony and then made to work (aperture ring) for fuji. the fuji lenses are arguably as as sharp, are cheaper, and have a more classic look (if that matters).

    2. I sometimes wonder if we’re all a little crazy. Modern lenses, even those “mediocre” Zeiss lenses, are spectacular. Look at the MTF charts or the images posted – they’re mind boggling good. Pick almost any contemporary lens – even many of the consumer grade lenses – and someone is doing awesome work with it. Hmmm. Browse around the web, there are tons of excellent photographers out there, and chances are you’ll find the full range of “mediocre” lenses in use. And please, none of that ‘value’ nonsense. So the Zeiss 12 is a few hundred more than the Fuji 14 – oh my, what a catastrophe. I’m sure Vivian Maier or Michael Kenna’s photos would totally suck if they bought similar terrible lenses.

Look – we’ve seen a renaissance in optics over the last 15-20 years, aspherics, coating so good you can have 18 elements in a lens, exotic glasses, zooms as good as older primes;the truly high end lenses are pushing your sensor, focusing system, and stability; the prosumer lenses are almost magically good and being as much an equipment guy as much as a photographer, I’ll happily let myself be suckered into buying optics way better than I am a photographer. Every lens has a personality and I think it’s great that people want to find the lens that works for them, but if anyone thinks that the Zeiss will make their photo’s “better” than the similar Fuji (or visa versa) is nuts (IMHO).

  2. re rumors – with all your new sources – anything on improving the iPhone/iPad app? and wifi in general? when the Xe2 came out the very first review has something about there being a wish to control the camera from the app but we havent heard anything since.

    1. I should maybe start a firmware wishlist poll again, and include your wish. I haven’t heard anything about an improvement. But the newly announced finepix S1 has an improved wifi support with new functions. So there is hope to have these features on the X-E2

      1. thanks. yes like the idea of a wish list.
personally I miss the button to silence everything
although i can assign focus point – i find it odd it isnt a primary button
        also the flash modes
face detect should be toggleable and although i have seen ricos argument that on other camera there are more than one macro functoin – there isnt on this one so why not make it toggleable – there are enough differences on the camera that i dont understand why they insist on the macro button being slower to use
keep up the good work – read the site every day

  3. ive just found the quote from the original 1st look-
A future firmware update is supposed to offer a wifi remote control feature and will most likely also be made available for the X-M1 and X-A1. However, please take this with a grain of salt, since such an update hasn’t officially been announced, yet.

    Any updates?

    1. I want to ask you if you ever had problems with dust on the sensor of the X-E2. I’ve read a lot lately about this issue (lots of them were shipped until december with dust that’s inside the sensor and can’t be cleaned and had to be returned many times before a good copy…). The users were complaining about Fuji QC (that seems to be an issue with some lenses too).

      1. not me. i got an early copy in the uk – its at home at moment so i dont have serial number on me. sensor seems fine – i do get a bit freaked every time i change lens having had dslrs for so long – im not used to seeing the sensor!

      2. Not to be rude, but where did you read these reports with dust on the sensor?
        & QC of lenses?

If the X-T1 doesn’t turn out as rumored, I may go for a X-E2.

        Please let me know, thanks!

          1. Thanks!

            That is a long thread..
good thing I don’t go to DPR, I would never get any work done..!

  4. Patrick, that is probably a little bit off topic here, but are there any upcoming plans for another (maybe big) firmware update for the X cameras, esp. XPro1?

As we know, FUJI plans to keep it’s flagship for a while, so it would make sense.

    1. Yes, it would make sense, and I think there will be improvements, but at the moment I have no information about. But when a Fuji top manager (Mr. Kawahara) says “we want you to use our cameras longer and longer in your life”, this is definitely a good sign for owners of older X-series cameras like the X-PRO1.

you can be sure: as soon as I hear something, I’ll post it.

  5. I did not understand why Zeiss would offer basically the same lenses as Fuji but at a higher cost. One would thing Zeiss would offer something Fuji does not make. Like a compact 23mm F2

    1. Because Zeiss’ offering of X-mount is an afterthought. The Zeiss lenses are really made for Sony NEX, a system that lacks quality primes big time.

    2. A compact 23mm F2 would be great, but it was written somewhere (Rico) that Zeiss is really making the lens for Sony and then offering it to Fuji system as well.

      They do look nice.

    1. sorry, no more news for now from trusted sources. Will try to have some talks via skype this weekend to find out more.

      1. This is making me wish days away – like a kid before Christmas.

        It’s not healthy!

I’m going to try and not look at Fujirumours all weekend. I have my son to look after and have fun with so I’ll enjoy it without any sneaky peeks and on Monday morning I’ll have a look.

Pretty please have something awsome for then Patrick!

        Cheers, T

  6. When is Zeiss or Sigma or hopefully Fuji going to produce an auto focus 85 – 90 mm f 1.4 or f 2 lens in the X mount ? This lens would complete my bag as I’ve got wide angle covered with 8 mm, 14 mm and 18 mm, X 100 and 35 mm for normal/mid range and 60 mm for macro and mild telephoto. I do have a Canon 85 mm f 1.8 manual lens but would prefer an auto focus modern lens. The 85 – 90 which is a 135 FF equivalent would be very useful for lots of applications. The 56 mm f 1.2 is too short for me in focal length and I don’t need the extra 1/2 stop of f 1.2 and that makes the lens too bulky. A lens the basic size of a 90 mm Summicron would be ideal. I do see interest from other photographers on Fuji forums for this type of lens. Please Fuji add this to your road map.
    Regards,
    F William Baker
    Dallas, Texas

    1. Agreed! A 90mm f/2 would have been smart.
The only thing that is lacking with this system is some fast prime and fast zoom telephotos and a 1:1 macro. I wish they would release the 55-140mm f/2.8 this spring, as I am still using my Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS on my X-Pro 1 for telephoto, and my EF100mm f/2.8L IS macro for 1:1 macro shots. That said, Fuji has done very well so far with providing high-quality lenses for a system that is still very young.

  7. @ Rico:
Is there any possibility that you could talk to your Fuji contacts and ask them to make all these X-deals also available in Germany. E.g., the new UK/ROI deal on XF lenses. With that I would definitely get the 55-200 and either 35, 14 or maybe if it comes in time and joins the deal the 10-24.

Or is Fuji simply under represented in Germany?? So then make this X-M1 deal (which made it essentially 250 pounds on Amazon UK) available to us and Fuji might sell them like hot cakes!

Just, needed to rant about this situation, but if you really could talk to them, maybe they would reconsider? 😀

    1. When I talk to Fuji Germany, they are rather happy that they do not have to resort to such “desperate measures”, as the German market is still quite healthy and Fuji is actually profitable here with their digital cameras. I reckon they’d like to keep it that way and are glad that they have a network of dedicated dealerships that can still sell Fuji camera equipment at decent prices.

I could ask them to give up that profitability and match the “desperate measures” of other regions/countries, but I don’t think they will do it unless they have to. 😉 Of course, it may still happen sooner or later.

  8. Beware !
The deal for X100S in “Germany” (DigitalRev) is from Hong Kong, grey market.
There are many other grey market resellers like this one, even cheaper, but none of them is really reliable.
