  1. Ah I wondered what had happened to this. Be interesting to see some samples from it, but I imagine it’s mostly for the Instagram crowd.

      1. I’m thinking more about the image quality and filters rather than the focal length and aperture. The 27mm f2.8 pancake is a great street lens.

      1. This one I’d forgive them for since it really is such a specialized lens. I may even buy one for the heck of it. It would be good for walking around cities in daytime. Makes the X-E2 very pocketable.

        1. Exactly. It is a specialised lens needing a specialised UI. Standard interfaces switching from lens to lens (aperture, focus, stops, distance, etc., labelled and unlabelled) those are not forgivable.

        2. I was just kidding with the interface… FujiHumors 😉

I hope some samples will be shown soon. I’m interested to see what this little cheap thing can deliver

          1. I’m really curious, too. Same with the lens baby, although I have no desire to buy one of those.

    1. Actually it may be perfect for enthusiasts/prosumers. It’s cheap and fun and falls into the discretionary money pile. Like when the 27mm was on sale for $199 last year. A lot of people bought them but likely never used them, simply because it was cheap.

      1. There’s only one pro/prosumer lens on a market today that costs around $100 new – Canon’s “plastic fantastic” 50/1.8 ($125 new, $60 used). The rest are pretty much toys that no one would take on a job as a primary lens.

Would I like to experiment with this pancake on a commercial shoot, after I’m done with “bread and butter” shots? Sure! Same could be said about Trioplans or Helioses, too. But would I take it with me as the main lens for the job? Nope. Never.

And that’s the difference between prosumer glass and toys.

        1. The Nikon 50mm 1.8 AF-D is still technically able to be bought new and is around $100. Still, I didn’t say this would be for pros. I said enthusiasts/prosumers. And maybe even pros would want to have it to play with on off-time. But I can see enthusiasts for sure wanting it to just play. To me it’s like buying a 10 stop ND filter. For most people it’s an occasional tool used for fun and experimentation.

      2. The 27mm lens is great – it’s the lens that transforms my X-E2 from a relatively large camera (usually with the 18-55 and lens hood) to something unassuming and “compact” in the sense of taking it anywhere.
You’re right I wouldn’t buy the 27mm for $450 or whatever the standard price is but for $200 it was a no-brainer.
This one seems a bit too much of a toy – it cripples the camera too much to take as an only lens like I do with the 27mm.

        1. I wish I would have bought one when they were $200. Right now they are on sale for $299. But I keep thinking someday they will be back at 200
