At the CP+ show in Yokohama Fuji unveiled the new 24mm f/8.0 X-mount cap lens! This lens is all about fun and portability and resembles an idea launched by Olympus with the 15mm f/8.0 cap lens. Fuji didn’t share any info about the price and release date.
Also spotted at the CP+, the 50mm (equivalent) tele conversion lens for the X100/S (check out this post).

Cool, it doesn’t really look any smaller than the excellent 27mm pancake though?
The sensor is midway in the camera you can only get so thin with the mount? Unless it is outragely high priced I’l get one.
Olympus’s body cap lens is much smaller and micro 4/3 has a similar flange distance to the X mount. I guess if this is really cheap it might make for a nice novely lens but otherwise it would be better to use a 27mm pancake as your body cap 🙂
Fuji is a 1.5 not 4/3’s Wider so sticks out more FF would sick out more.
Oh and I don’t the angle of view but that has something to do with it.
What’s the wheel about? Any japanese people around able to translate?
My fiance is japanese. She said the word in red font on the top pointing to the wheel says “rotation dial” not too sure on the bottom one, direct translation is “memory” and pretty sure it relates to what setting you’re currently on.
The 4 things to the right are
Red – Lens barrier
White – Pan Focus Shooting
Blue – Pan Focus Shooting Soft Filter
Orange – Pan Focus Shooting Cross Filter
Instead of “memory” it can be interpreted as “index”
Thanks Nick! Index might be Aperture?
It doesn’t mean memory at all. It is an indicator- rotate the dial and you get a different colour to show which of the four settings you’re on. But your fiancée did get the rest of it right. Also note Fuji describe this as a prototype. Why the obsession with release dates and pricing? Fuji are simply having fun.

»There is a product of the concept similar to Olympus, but the characteristic X-MOUNT FILTER IN CAP LENS is, it has a built-in filter. Can be applied turret-type filter by turning the dial of the lens barrel. Position of the dial are the four lens barrier, pan-focus shooting, soft filter applied, the filter cross application.«
What is a “cross filter”?
It will be a for focusing, this is a manual lens.
Probably fixfocus. Everything further away than ~1m will be sharp, so no need to focus. See here: http://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/cool-fuji-launches-new-cap-lens-for-the-x-system
Well if it’s fixed aperture and fixed focus then what’s the dial for? The Olympus cap lens has a focus dial.
Never mind looks like it’s for changing a filter/covering the lens.
Instead of buying this, take a good dinner with your wife and take a picture with your smartphone.
Why..????
“f/8 and be there”? 😉
Not such a good advice for modern digital APS-C lenses which usually peak at f/5.6.
From a resolution standpoint, maybe – although I’d say that it’s not applicable to a 16MP sensor with no AA filter -, but from a DOF standpoint you can certainly go over 5.6 without sacrificing much, if anything.
The difference between f5.6 and f8 in sharpness in any real world shot is vanishingly small to nonexistent, especially at 16 megapixels.
Is this an XF cap lens or XC? 😉
In fairness, I was hoping the unspecified “high speed wide angle lens” on the road map was going to be a 24mm lens, but I don’t think f/8 qualifies as “high speed”
Why would you hope for that when they have the 23mm f/1.4?
Sorry, I got a bit mixed up.
I’m hoping the unspecified wide-angle lens on the roadmap is a 24mm equivalent lens – so 16mm.
This “cap lens” is 24mm – 36mm equivalent.
it will have to ge a 16mm/1.4 or 1.6. anything else wouldnt make sense based on the announcement plus current line up….
The dial is for changing mode the lens has.
1(red indicator): lens barrier
2(white): pan focus
3(blue): pan focus + soft filter
4(orange): pan focus + cross filter
It translates as a “rotary dial”
Got the Olympus 15mm body cap lens.. so far its a fun lens.. focus to infinity and everything is almost in focus.. dont question about the sharpness though.. all in all, if you intend to “anytime be ready” while any other lens is still detached (or still inside your bag) to your fuji body, a quick draw solution is this lens.. no need to think, no need to focus.. just shoot away!
the wheel probably the focus adjustment – close lens, infinity and 0.3-0.9m focusing.. if the price is right, i might purchase this..
I think 指標 may translate as “Marker” or “Indicator”
Doesn’t look like a Fuji product. Something from a third party?
The Filters are the main advantage.
Unfortunately for me I feel this is a waste of time, money and resources and the last thing fuji should be putting out. The biggest glaring hole in the lens line up is a fast portrait lens equiv to 135mm, I wish fuji would put a 90mm f2 on the roadmap, even if it takes a year to come to fruition it may stop people from buying into another system for this product and could also give confidence to people who want to buy fuji but are missing a very important focal length. Cheers jon
It’s fun and give them time, They put out a lot over 2 years.
No need to wait.
You can get a 90mm Leica lens for under 800 on Ebay, you will be amazed how good that can be on an X Camera. Once your done with it you can probably sell it for the same price again.
There is a 90mm f/2 coming later this year. Check out the current road map.
I’ll probably pass on the Lens Cap lens unless it’s priced really really right. I always store my camera in the bag with some lens on it. However, that 50mm converter for the X100s has my mouth wathering. I already have the WLC and am astounded by the quality.
Now, for something completely off topic…
With the release of the XT-1, what is left to upgrade for an XPro-2?
Weather sealing.. done
Useable WiFi .. done
Bigger / better viewfinder ..done
Tilt Screen .. done
intervalometer … done
The way I see it, the only area left to improve are the Video operation and quality, but that’s probably not an interest in a “pro” model… or is it? Could this herald that the XPro-2 will come with a bigger, better sensor? If not, what could Fuji build into a future camera to improve on the XT-1 (besides design change, which I completely think is important (i.e. hybrid view finder, etc)
The main area to improve would be the sensor along with the phase-detect AF on the sensor. Hopefully it will be similar to the sensor in the new Sony A6000. Higher mp + many more phase detect points.
Fuji has stated there will not be an X-pro2 until there are significant advancements. Personally, I’m more interested in the next iteration of the X-T1 with whatever new sensor improvements develop–unless they can do something to improve focus confirmation with the X-pro2’s OVF.
Oh yes. Strongly reinforcing their credibility in the Pro market. I won’t buy one until they make a full frame body for it to fit on.
Open your mind. There is a room behind FF and High Qualität glass.
If someone is looking for a cheap, compact and fun 28mm I can recommend the Industar 69 28mm 2.8 m39 lens. Off course very soft wide open but quite decent when stopping down.

You may have to adjust the focus of the lens a bit as described in this guide:

Its sharp and the wheel likely changes the filters. Cost won’t be to low looks like glass lenses and Fuji can’t half way do something so has a filter array witch maybe handy! I bet $85 or so.
Can’t think of a useful applcation for this. Not for me thanks.
Yep not for everyone, If it is as sharp as the graph shows maybe something worth keep on my other body for grab shots or fun.
I liked the second cap from Olympus because it’s a wide angle, it’s cooler to have as a cap since it’s more unusual focal length compared to a standard one.
Yes. Fuji, please release ultra-wide lens caps like the Olympus 9mm f/8 body cap. Fuji should do lens caps of 14mm, 12mm, 10mm, and 8mm to give full-frame equivalent field of view at 21mm, 18mm, 15mm, 12mm. Slow aperture is an acceptable tradeoff. These caps would just be tons of walk around fun.
