I know this is quite a “weird” lens. It’s a 40mm Voigtlander M-mount that has to be used along the separate close focus E-mount adapter (you have to buy it separately although many stores offer them as a bundle). The lens has been designed to be used on E-mount cameras only! It works well on both FF and APS-C cameras. And it’s now in Stock:
In USA at Adorama, BHphoto and [shoplink 33127 ebay]eBay[/shoplink].
in Europe at Fotomundus.
In Hong Kong on [shoplink 33128 ebay]eBay[/shoplink].
in Japan on [shoplink 33129 ebay]eBay[/shoplink].

700 Euros…
718. The hp says 429 € for the lens and 289 € for the cf adapter
about the same as the stabalized Sony Zeiss 35mm/2.8.
Who will by this Heliar instead?
Fyi The 35 2.8 isn’t stablized…
Is for me on A7ii.
It’s stablized for me on A7ii.
ok… thanks for correction. Nevertheless I would prefer the native E-Mount lens.
399 bucks is without the vm close focus adapter !!!
Nice little lens but quite weird, IMHO the classic 1.4/40 is more interesting, more “caractere” (personality ?) Best regards, Thomas
If I understand correctly, the adaptor for this lens is built-in, not the one selling for $300+. So the price is $399 w/ the adaptor, which is about the price for a used copy of VM 40/1.4. Wondering if there are some comparisons between the 40/1.4 and this 40/2.8 on A7 series cameras…
Oops, it seems I am wrong…
just fyi in case you didnt know, you can get close focus adapters for m-mount to e-mount for $35. they work perfectly fine. 300 bucks is insane to pay. i have three and use them on all my voigtlanders, including the amazing 40 1.4 due to them usually have a very poor close range.
I’m looking to buy a close focus m to e mount adapter. Which would you recommend? If u could share a link I’d be grateful.
i purchased a couple from here most recently http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leica-M-Lens-to-Sony-NEX-E-Mount-Adapter-with-Macro-Tube-Ring-Helicoid-LM-NEX-FT-/281589480472?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41900a7c18 you MAY be able to find some closer to you..but the shipping didnt take that long. maybe a couple weeks tops. main thing is just to search for m-mount to e-mount and use helicoid in your search terms. the adapter works fine. the do use in excess something like a grease inside the coil which extends out that made me paranoid for a second, but you can wipe it off if it worries you. 99% sure i was just overly cautious and perhaps they are all made that way.
Buyer: -Why so expensive?
Seller: -Well, it is manual focus.
Buyer: -But that doesnt make sense.
Seller: -No, but it has slow aperture!
Buyer:- Wha..
Seller:- Plus it comes with an adapter!
Buyer:- Are you…
Seller:- Listen you lil`cunt, if you dont like it, go buy Jupiter12 35 f2.8, it is like 30 bucks. And its better.
Buyer:- OK!
Sweet…ugly just got a new name.
Nice try~ Another misleading title intend to grab “clicks” due to recent lack of Sony alpha rumors! This lens is for Leica M Mount. If you want to use it on Sony, you need to buy an adapter with close focus ring.
but it’s not even usable with a M Mount camera as you can’t focus it.
Are you sure about that?
It was designed to be used on sony e-mount cameras.
Uh… What a evil plan! 🙂
You buy Voigtlander VME Close Up Adapter or Hawk Adapter (Sony E Mount) and this gives you a helical focus for the CV 40/2.8. It is a sharp lens even at f2.8 on my A7. A good people lens. Having the VME adapter also gives you closer focus on M mounted lenses. I can use my Leica 50/1.4 ASPH with the VME and get up and close like a 75.
This lens can not focus if attached to an ‘M’ camera.
so….no news from sony’s front? 🙁 Not even lens?
Just to defend this lens a little, it’s super compact, with a nice classic look. It won’t win any awards for speed or even absolute sharpness, but it’s got a classic rendering and makes great images. Are there other options, yes, some of them ‘better.’ But if you’d like something unique, this is it. I use the 40mm F2 Ultron for Nikon and I have to say I love the 40mm focal length, and I love the balance between sharpness and rendering. I’ll bet you the intention of this was to act as a high priced body-cap lens for M mount users.
Sony 35 f1,8 OSS is optically good, with AF and OSS. Why this?
