Stay tuned! A7rII preorders confirmed to start at 11am New York time!

A7rII

Short heads up: I got the final confirmation the Sony A7rII (and RX100m4/RX10m2) online preorders will start at exactly 11am London time. If you preorder the new camera at BHphoto using my affiliated links you will have the chance to win a $100 rebate! Feel free to also send me links of other stores accepting preorders. This way we will make sure SAR readers will get the first in line on the very long A7rII preorder list 🙂

Rebate action notes: Four preorders will be randomly chosen by BHphoto. They will get notified by BH and get the $100 off (The A7rII will cost $3098). This “action” is available for all worldwide preorders and not only for US!

One more thing: SAR reader Alin Popescu was present at the Sony London A7rII presentation event. He told me that:

YES – you can charge via USB while using the camera (possible maybe with new firmware updates for other cameras too)
YES YES – you can reprogram the Record Video button to be used with any other customizable button (not with the shutter button though). Here is a small Demo video I did to show this feature
https://youtu.be/bSd2aQLK_LU
YES – new ISO Auto Minimum Shutter Speed
New focus area Flexble Spot with area (or something like this, I forgot the name). What it does, it uses close focus points to the one selected
And many more goodies. I’ve posted some more images on my blog – http://www.alinpopescu.eu/blog/test-hands-on-cu-a7r-ii-rx100-iv-si-rx10-ii-hands-on/

      1. No need to pedantic? And there is no London time either. If we are being exacting then we should all being talking in UTC.

  1. The preorder list for a $3200 camera with a relatively small existing user base will not be very long, especially with 4 other A7 models already in the wild. It will be readily available everywhere once released.

    1. I’m not so sure, the poll on Dpreview said %29 of people are pre-ordering for sure today, and 42% said maybe after more reviews, only %30 said they have no plans to pre-order.

People must just have boat loads of money

          1. I am not sure. But check how many people will say they already “had it” 🙂

      1. The total respondents in that poll are about 100, those numbers aren’t going to results in “sold out” anywhere.

        1. Well no, but it’s still surprising how many people have that much money to blow like it’s nothing

          1. I’m personally debating shuffling some gear to order. This camera would take the place of my NX1 and A7s.

      1. What a ridiculous comparison, there aren’t 500 million people using A7 cameras, like there are with iPhones. More than 2 billion mobile devices have been sold worldwide, so the user base for a phone starting at $200 is exponentially larger than the A7rII.

I would say the demand for the original A7 and A7r were much larger as there were a lot of people clamoring for a FF mirrorless – and I bought the A7 the first day it was released. Same with the A7s. They were in stock everywhere.

At $2000 this would probably be sold out in many places for the first few weeks. But at $3200 no way.

  2. Well…I’ve melted down my gold teeth to finance this, so it sure had better live up to the product specification and hype 🙂

    1. I was wondering too, if there will also be a preorder in Europe/Germany…? Links are only US or Asia

      1. As usual Sony Europe will update their sites slowly. Preorders should be available within 24 hours from now!

        1. Can’t you use your sources to confirm when Sony Europe will accept pre-orders….you’re based in Europe so shouldn’t this be your focus rather than the US and Asia?

          1. “unofficially” preorders started in store. It means you call them and give them your contact info and credit card number. But Sony Europe stores will udpate their page within 24 hours to accept preorders.

          2. Thanks. I just spoke to Sony Germany. It’s not possible to pre-order it and they wouldn’t say when this would be possible. At least that was what the person I spoke to told me….perhaps other people have had different responses?

          3. Dankeschön! I spoke to Calumet…but the camera is not available on their site yet, and whilst they will accept and an email and place an order as soon as it’s available on their system…it’s not possible to place an actual pre-order yet. Seems like we Europeans are considered as second class next to USA and Asia ;-(

  3. New custom button settings I see from the menu, compared to my A7:

ISO Auto Min. SS (In addition to ISO function)
Has a Picture Profile in addition to Picture Effect and Creative Style
    SteadyShot
    SteadyShot Adjust
    SteadyS. Focal Length
    FE Lock Hold
    FE Lock Toggle
    FEL / AEL Hold
    FEL / AEL Toggle
    Center Lock-on AF
    Focus Hold
    Bright Monitoring
    MOVIE

    This is geniunely great!

  4. B&H says July 28. Adorama says August 20. Amazon isn’t taking preorders yet? Any idea which date is most likely?

  5. As soon as it hits the market and no longer back ordered, I predict we can find it for under $3k. Or at least with SD card/Batteries etc. Unfortunately, for me I have to wait. I have only $3k and need a lens. I am new to the Sony ecosystem. I can’t wait to see a real RAW file. What battery life is (how many exposures), compare native AF with Canon. I’d really prefer a 24-105mm 2.8. 24-7 f4 is not that thrilling to me.

  6. looks like Sony Japan are holding it back at home. there is no mention of A7RII on the japan site while europe & usa have features.

  7. HOW TO SAVE $$$ ON A7r2 ORDER !

Sony currently has a CapitalOne visa reward card available ( http://www.sonyrewards.com ) I applied for a new card and got instant approval with a $3500 credit limit. You get $100 credit on your account after first purchase AND 0% interest through 4/30/2016 as well as 5X Sony rewards points ( usable at http://www.store.sony.com )!

I preordered yesterday from B&H and I will end up paying $3098 for my new A7r2, with 0% interest and I will receive 15,490 Sony rewards points = ~ $310 value. (Note you have to fill out an e-form at sony.rewards to claim the extra 4X points)…

Bottom line: A7r2 for $3098 plus $310 to spend at Sony online store and 10 months to pay off A7r2 with No Interest!

FYI: I had to order from B&H photo because Sony, in their infinite wisdom, does not have the A7r2 available to preorder on there website yet! You can preorder from any Sony authorized retailer to get the 5X rewards….

    1. the points system is so much better in the US than it is up in Canada :/ you only get 2X points for ordering anything Sony branded, regardless of where it’s ordered from 🙁
