SR5 rumor roundup. And warning of fakes (I know who makes them).

Finally I busted who keeps sending wrong info to rumor sites and on forums (See fake A7000 pic). I will not mention the site  to not make him any publicity. The site is well known and I am surprised to see them work that actively on fake images. I want to thank SAR readers and my long time trusted sources for finding the source that sent and posted wrong info on different forums and sites. So it’s time to make a roundup of what’s true. And in future you may understand that I have to triple check rumors to avoid exactly these kind of wrong rumors! It’s also a lesson for me that I do not have to trust these kind of people.

So what’s correct? What’s SR5 now?
1) NEX-FF Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 Full Frame E-mount lens (article here)
2) NEX-FF camera to come (more about that soon via trusted sources)
3) A-mount mirrorless and more E-mount DSLR shaped (ILCE) cameras to hit market in early 2014.
4) SAL70-200mmII version Dicahub translated the specs from Japanese to English:
focal length (35mm format): 105-300mm
construction: 19 pieces in 16 groups
angle of view (FF): 34˚ – 12˚ 30′
angle of view (APS-C): 23˚ – 8˚
minimum focus distance: 1.2m (from image plane)
maximum magnification ratio: 0.21x
minimum aperture: F32
filter diameter: 77mm
size (maximum diameter x full length): 87 x 196.5mm
weight: 1,340g

More SR5 rumors to come soon….

Again: My apologies to all readers for posting a false rumor for 2 hours. I hope you at least appreciate my effort to discover the authenticity and correct a rumor when it’s wrong. A special thanks goes to jwdoy and Vlad3D for their amazing help on discovering the fake A7000 image! You are my heroes today.

P.S.: Somebody asked me why I posted the fake A7000 image with SR5 value before my trusted sources confirmed it. Reason is easy, I trusted that guy from this site. Didn’t think he could do this.

    1. I am really so surpised that a site that known is working to spread false rumors. I am very surprised. And it reminds me how I can trust my long time sources only. New sources can be so dangerous!

        1. Yes, I did a mistake to trust him. But my problem is also that my very top sources contact me anonymously. So the only way to be really sure of a pic is to post it on SAR.

          1. I think there will be. I obviously don’t have any numbers to prove that, but I believe that the RX1 is selling well. An APC-S version would allow for a zoom, yet still small size and a lower price tag. But, hey, I might be very wrong 🙂

          2. I would take an RX-10 in a minute if it were APS-C w/16-70 (like a grown-up RX-100)and EVF. I think there would be quite a big market for that, as there seems to be considerable interest in the 16-70 Vario Tessar just announced.

  1. SAR, you just seriously lost some credibility! I knew the photo of the a7000 was fake and obviously photoshopped. I still can’t believe you actually fell for that and posted it.

    1. I trusted this guy. My mistake. Will not happen again. It was exactly his intention to feed me with correct info before and than a fake image after. So that I post it.

        1. I completely agree. Andrea, you are doing a great job, which I really appreciate. Please continue with your rumor site.

    1. SAR reader discovered an analogy with a Gizmodo A99 picture. And than I checked “some things” I cannot tell you here. And discovered that there is a site owner that played me fool for purpose (and I know him well). Trusted him. Yet no more. You will simply not see any links to this site anymore 🙂

  2. Feel sorry for you admin. But don’t worry, I appreciated your efforts. Bit disappointed because I have to wait again…warghhhh

  3. OK, good to recap, thanks! No worries!

    Not listed above is:
    – z-axis movement of sensor.
    – SAL120F28.
    – SEL70400GII.

What would be the current SR-level on these?

    1. I am double checking these info now. I got them form a different sources but I want to be 100% sure now. And regarding the Sony Germany leaks. Usually they are correct but I have been told 3 horus ago by a trusted sources that soemtimes they do misstakes. So we should not completely rely on them.

      1. Well, the occasional mistake can happen to anybody. 😉 And sometimes a rumor can be perfectly legit but then it gets cancelled or whatever, then nobody’s to blame.

  4. Wow at all the trouble he went through to fool you.
I remember you said the pic was edited by you an that if it was fake it is one of the best you’ve seen.

He made you take out the background so it would look like you faked it while he hidden his work faking a real situation picture.

Lol! This is typical since people pretty much live online and earn not from their content but rather from idiotic adds and referals…

    Pretty sad…

    1. You cannot imagine how much effort he spent to fool me. It’s not like I post a picture when I get it in an eays way. But he really worked hard with many mails and double asking and so on. And knowing who he is I dind’t expect that.

      1. I am so tempted to unveil his name. But it would start a war. It’s better to ignore certain people…that’s what I learned from life…

          1. I will make it good. And the day I close SAR I will write you who this site was. So that you can be warned.

          2. I only close it if Sony wants me away or if I se myself no more capable of working on a greta rumors. I confess that quite many times I was that close on burn out that I wanted to quit. That’s why I hope the redesign will help me out to include readers post. I can’t follow rumors, news and review all day. I wish to focus on rumor work only. And you do the reviews 🙂

        1. Andrea,

You are right to ignore/suppress the name. No one needs to know it and you don’t need any additional grief for the HEROIC work you do that we all so appreciate. If you prolong and perpetuate the awareness of that guy’s behavior, after a while you’ll need 2 sites, one for your real work, one for the discussion of the garbage. Stick to your real work!!!

There is a good Yiddish word for that guy–SCHMUCK.

Faking rumors that will definitely be revealed as untrue??? What stupidity!!! He needs to get a life.

          1. If Sony would have done it…ok, I understand that.
But this guys really worked hard to convince me. By the way, I discovered afterwards that he is the site owner. I guess he did it because he is about to start his own rumor site? It’s the only reason I can find. But I linked to him so many times on SAR. You know, tried to give him visibility and push him a bit. And now he did that in the hope I wouldn’t notice it was him. It’s an emotioanl letdown. I try to trust people, to not think they can fool me. Don’t want to think life in a cynical way. But once again I have to accept that some people simply is like that. Envious, jelous, deeply frustrated.
I had a bad day today guys. Because I always wnat to give you my best, you even helped me by supporting financially this site. And I feel addicted to you and sorry when I do a mistake. But I know I will get over it, I will not get too much frustrated. I want to enjoy life in his best, and I will soon shake out that disppointment. Also because the NEX-FF is coming. And it will put a big smile on all our faces 🙂

      2. I would trust only those who you have to convince to give you more info, if they try too hard, well, maybe there can be only one reason.

    1. I am working on these info too yet. But now with only long time trusted sources. And this usually takes time. I have other SR5 info to post yet from these sources.

    2. obviously, it will. i doubt about using other systems’ lens on these cameras, due to electric and logical compatibility. i guess it would require some rotating bayonet ring with various connectors for various bayonets + licensing costs for using proprietary ‘logic’, which won’t make cameras cheaper. so, i doubt that these cameras will work with canikon cameras natively. don’t forget that you need to control the aperture even if you don’t plan to use in-lens motors (which would mean manual pre-focusing for most lenses).

so, basically, of course normal focusing WILL work on these cameras.

i would also doubt that this z-axis will be used for post-focusing (or that it will be usable). but the ability to use lens with various focal distance is already more than great.

the thing is, that it resolves the main headache of sony:
      – it makes the transition from A to E painless.
      – it makes people who like SLT happy – they will get ilce which will work just the same (hopefully, on-sensor PDAF will be very efficient).
      – if they resolve logical/electric compatibility, it greatly expands the lens park.

in short, now they have where to go, and the current step is certainly a win. dslr moved to transition stage of dslt and it’s stage is over, now we will see what the slt were introduced for – ilce.

  5. Its a rumor site for gods sake. Arguably the best one dedicated to camera’s of any brand. The fact that people you know are going to such lengths to undermine you is a compliment. It shows that certain sectors of the industry are worried about the ammount of good information you do provide. Keep up the good work.
Speaking of good information how long before we hear what direction rx series will take next?

  6. A little setback will help us to grow and gain wisdom in life. I enjoy coming to SAR even though once in a while there are some fake rumors.

  7. Andrea, I think you handeled that very well, no reason to beat yourself up about it! I am very excited about all the news and don’t expect every rumour to be correct – sometimes even trusted sources get corrected by last minute changes at the manufacturer itself. So no worries!

I guess I personally will very soon be in a dilemma. As an A77 user, I am certainly going to make the move to full frame, but might having a hard time chosing between the NEX FF (which I predict will be named NEX 9) and one of the possibly two A99 successors (here I expect something like “A1”). I’d prefer the DSLR-shaped body, not minding the size too much, but that presumably would force me to wait some more months.

  8. Thanks for all the hard work Andrea – even on a bad day it’s still appreciated! Is it just 1 guy trying to discredit you or do you think it’s a group? I wouldn’t imagine Sony’s behind it as the rumors are ultimately good for business…

      1. Interesting – think I can make an educated guess, but I can see why you don’t want to give them the free publicity.

  9. Just wondering about the 70-200… I tend to believe rumors easily, but in 2008 there was a “product sheet” for a 24-105 F4 G SSM…

Did you get this 70-200 II product sheet from a good source? Because the product sheet shows has the “old” focus hold buttons…Although I think it’s perfectly possible that it’s going to be the same lens as the current 70-200 (a weather sealing upgrade and faster SSM motor), it’s harder to believe they would re-use the old (Minolta shaped) focus hold buttons instead of the ones they use for the 70-400, zeiss lenses…

    Just asking 🙂

  10. On a rumor site, readers should expect items that do not pan out. This site still tends to be more accurate than plenty of “news” sites. If a few of the readers on here are unable to accept that they can go elsewhere for Sony alpha rumors…good-luck to them with that.

  11. This person is doing that just to make you feel like ripping them to shreds! As many people say, he is simply jealous. Try to just laugh it off and ignore him.

By the way Andrea, keep up the good work! I visit your site 3-5 times a day more than I log on to facebook lol

  12. Keep up the great work, Andrea! What happened today means one thing: you are doing it right! I personally had so many exciting moments here on SAR (and I bet I’m not the only one), you gave us so many exciting infos, that one pathetic attempt to ruin your credibility is simply ignorable. Yes, even ten attempts would be the same.

  13. Dear Andrea, thanks for all your good work ! I have been following your site for one year now and it has become part of may daily routine !

  14. admin–You’re handling the situation better than most of us would. I’d be torn also whether or not to out the person who purposely gave you false info. Please consider my take on it. If this person (who you mentioned is a site owner) went through all this trouble to attack your credibility, we must question their credibility as well. In my book, they lost all credibility and I wouldn’t want to waste my time visiting his website anymore if it happens to be that I visit it already . I understand though if you don’t want to out this person as you seem to be a person of high character.

  15. 50% are shitting bricks because SAR posted a fake shot, another 50% are shitting bricks because of some guy’s trololo of consumerists fanbois…
And neither percentage of target audience wants to take responsibility for not using own brain…
Who’s actually out there taking photos btw?

    Lol internet…

  16. Hi Andrea

Are u still going to post more photos of A7000 after the official announcement of QX?

Per my memory, you said will post the photo only “after” the 4th September Sony announcement

So I suppose that it is not the fake one you posted yesterday

  17. Maybe this discussion about the faker is therapeutic for you, but to me it is a tempest in a teapot. I rely on this site to make my future purchasing decisions, and will continue to do so. I probably check it at least 3-5 times each week, and accept that you are passing along “rumors” of varying reliability and not necessarily concrete information. Keep up the good work! I have been waiting to buy a new SAL70200G II, which has been anticipated on this site for some time. Anything further you can pass along about a prospective release date and specs, and how this is an upgrade of the original SAL70200G, would be much appreciated. Thanks!
