UPDATE: After the fake Zeiss 85mm image from Xitek we now got a next fake A7000 semi pro camera image. A well-known site made this fake and shared it. But sadly for them, SAR readers quickly discovered it’s a fake. The site did this intentionally, that’s why the site will no more be seen as trusted sources (and no more linked on SAR).

It would be very interesting to see an α9900 with a FF sensor and $1.000 price tag 🙂
I would prefer a $500 price tag! And world peace!
Dave, That is toooo funny. you made my night!
High Res Full Frame on this body might be enough.
Well, it needs to AF Fast too. 🙂
Why stop there?
Let’s demand that Sony “pay us” to us to take their products home and use them. 🙂
It would be very interesting if gasoline was pollution free and cost 50 cents a gallon.
interesting times at SONY for sure !
Love this site by the way 🙂
I would prefer a camera that work, or a 200 f2 … what a crap
You will have it. Looks like all existing A mount lenses will be updated with a newer, E mount version.
By then there will be no need for this bulky Z-shift solution.
Oh GOD please say they have implemented a global shutter now.. Its extremely overdue in 2013..
Have no info on that. But I don’t think…
Sorry, my comment was to be attached to Freddo´s line
This body will probably have the to be as thick as the a-mount bodies, wouldn´t it?
No mention of future A mount cameras even though new lenses are coming.
Semi-pro means we can expect a price like A77 ?
Is it based on the oly-IBIS ?
Is it weather-sealed ?
Andrea, any news about a version of this cam with proper NEX form factor? I can accept a little bit of added thickness, but I am not a big fan of that DSLR shape…
I am working on it. I heard of many new cameras and I have to sort out the rumors first!
I would expect the NEX-7 successor to have a Z-shift sensor.
There are a lot of expectations for anything from Sony.
Then, even when they are met, the Sony Alpha Whiners would still whine.
Sad bad true.
It would require addition in thickness that is the equivalent of … about a mirror box.
if they’re going to keep the NEX7 as a slim form factor then it’s going to be impossible to implement the Z-axis sensor shifting (maybe SSS at best)
I had the same question. I love the NEX form and would love sensor IS and sensor Z-shift.
You can’t have the thin body of a traditional NEX and have the Z-shift. The shift is 18mm, which will almost double the thickness of the body, even without allowing for bits of mechanism behind the sensor.
I think I would go for a NEX-7 successor with the Tri-Navi, and do without the Z-shift. If I was rich I would get one of each.
I think Don is right on this one. I’d guess that adding IBIS and this Z-shift stuff would make the NEX-7 replacement twice as thick at least. I think they will leave out IBIS and Z-shift to keep the form-factor, not everyone NEX owner is going to care about IBIS or mounting Canikon lenses.
Olympus MFT cameras have a flange back distance of 19,25 mm compared to Sony e-mount 18 mm and Olympus have 5 axis IBIS so I would say IBIS in a NEX camera is doable.
Olympus also uses a smaller sensor though. That is more easy to stabilize than APSC
Now that is very interesting indeed. You’ll probably have to put the lens to infinity or something like that. Wonder what will be the speed of this type of AF 🙂
Impressive, I want one.
Any word on the price of this little wonder? Or availability?
Price I don’t know. Availability I heard January 2014. But I hope it’s earlier.
I hope this dont ends up in the trashcan. go sony, go.
Freeddo, the shape might help hold the multitude of lens.
That is really cool, but I was waiting for something that could accept amount without adapter…
You will be able to fit an adapter and just leave it permanently in place.
It will add only a few mm to the camera’s thickness.
Anouncement also tomorrow?
Bad Photoshop work…
I know that my background removal work was bad 🙁
Doesnt matterr, we love you and your website for what you are doing 🙂 keep it up youre great !!!!
It looks like it has no Flash .Or a top LCD .Is this the best of the Apsc line up to come or a mid range one ? it looks like it sits where the A65 is siting in the existing line to me .
You can’t see the top LCD from such an angle: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sony-alpha-slt-a99/images/Intro.jpg
I guess we should wait but I’v got few doubts it would be there given the target 🙂
As for the flash, in fact I can’t see it… but come on, this is the first image, cant’ you wait and see? 😉
No, to me Andrea is the very best and perfect in every aspect. For the photo you just need to tilt your head a bit and all the problems solved… 🙂
So why did you remove the background….was there a secret that you can’t reveal yet?
It’s a secret sorry.
Wasn’t talking about the background removal. That was ok 🙂 I was reffering to the fake image that is a result of bad photoshop work
Learn to see the positive aspect in Admin’s work. You know something today that you didnt yesterday. Obviously you want to know something about Sony cameras because otherwise you wouldnt be around here, would you?
This sounds awesome Andrea! Let’s just hope that the AF is as fast as on A-mount/CaNikon! 😀
I dont know why but this really looks faked
First there is the lense-release button on the right but no mechanism in the mount which this button is using.
Also the Sensor is not on the same angel as the camera, according to this image if this is a real image, every picture taken by this camera would be tilted to the left.
But if it is true, i would love you.
I dont care about the Z-Sensor, i care about the in-body image stabilisation.
But the angle of the sensor and the lense-release button without any mechanism behind it really let me think its faked.
I have the original picture and it’s on a real world situation. I also got a seocnd pic that confirms it. if it’s fake than it’s the best faked image ever made 🙂
What makes it look a bit fake is that I went through PS to hide some details!
Guys, it’s based on the same A77 and A99 deisgn obviously! Look at the differences, not at the common things. (top, release button, some of the lines from the top, and so on).
You could do the same thing with the A77 and A99! Anyway, morei mages will come showing other stuff from the same source. These images are even more evident 🙂
As well as exact same positioning of strap holders. Also note that the “7000” seems small in comparison to the Alpha logo, is not of the same texture and in fact seems very two dimensional.
Actually its a quite bad fake and quite obvious. The first thing i noticed in the image was the wrong angle of the sensor, its nearly hitting my eye like an needle.
Ive seen better fakes with photoshop like the 48 Megapixel Canon 1DX
Yes, you are right. But my trust in these guy made me oversaw the flaws.
Big Thanks for al the work you do Andrea.
Another E-mout Camera, i am very curious about the newest A-mount Camera.
Is there already some news about ?
Q1 2014.
Thanks for this update, now i can enjoy my holiday 😛
Imagine this kind of focusing on FF-NEX.
That would truly be perfect camera for all users, if it works on all legacy systems then imagine using old screw mount lenses gaining AF or Leica lenses. No more manual focus 🙂
Hopefully they’ll include it in FF-NEX, if not in this version then maybe in successor.
One camera to rule them all 🙂
While I also think it would be great to have something like this in NEX-9 (let’s call it like this), I don’t think it is likely: Sony still needs some product differentiation and they will not sell 2 cameras with exactly the same features but with a different shape.
By where things seem to be going, I would guess Sony will consider the a9000 (and not the NEX-9) their flagship camera. Therefore the a9000 will have all features. Btw, with in body AF it would make an upgrade over the a99.
The NEX-9 will be more consumer oriented, and almost certainly will not have in body AF (probably not even IBIS). but the price will be lower.
This would be a smart strategy in my opinion: Canon and Nikon both have 2 FF bodies, 1 cheap 1 pro, but both of them are DSLR. Sony would also have 2 FF bodies, but they would additionally be differentiated in terms of body shape (NEX vs DSLR).
I think this makes sense also regarding past rumors Andrea posted: more than 1 E-mount FF camera, attack to Canon and Nikon (with DSLR shaped), pro E-mount body (everybody thinking NEX, turns out it will be a9000)…
You need 18mm to spair for the focusing .I think thats why were seeing it inside the now free mirror box in the DSLR range
What happened to floating elements? This system would work but it wouldn’t be perfect focus for some lenses.
Floating element lenses could pose a challenge, but manual prefocusing will probably iron out most of the problems.
The focus would always be correct even from a floating-element lens, but aberrations such as field curvature might not be fully corrected.
I agree that setting the rough focus on the lens first should solve the problem.
Fallback to manual focusing. There is no downside here, as long as the sensor can dock accurately to ensure that the lens DOF markings are still accurate.
WOW! Imagine Leica & Zeiss M lenses on this camera, Autofocus!!!
So:
APS-C A mount cameras would be Axx appealing to DSLR market competing directly with Canikon entry level, semi pro and pro cameras.
APS-C E mount SLR shape cameras appealing to those who want the flexibility of E mount (multitude of lenses available)
NEX for compact users
FF cameras – any – state of the art engineering flagship products.
Sounds kind of messy and potentially confusing. Not that I mind it.
I find it similarly confusing but thats probably because the lineups are not clear. It isnt like A and E, but a chimera of A and E plus Olympus 43.
Looks for me like Sony itself is lost in which bayonet is suppose to do what and how to distinguish both line of products.
With A7000 there will be so much overlapping between the gear that I doubt Sony would manage to convince people to that. In the end on markets where E-mount is more popular (eg. US) the E-mount sales will go up, and A-mount will go down, in the markets where A-mount is more popular (eg. parts of Europe) E-mount sales will be unaffected, while A-mount sales will go down (as people won’t be so sure about Sony’s direction anymore).
In either scenario – A-mount is loosing from whole this mess and lack of any clear message on Sony’s side.
Great news!
Few thoughts:
How is the AF performance? Probably not on par with SLRs but hopely improved over the NEX 5R/6 performance. Does it have OSPDAF?
Will Sony come up with a new A-mount adapter or are we supposed to use the LA-EA1 and LA-EA2 adapters? If the camera has OSPDAF, could the LA-EA1 adapter be used with this camera assuming Sony will provide a firmware update.
Is Sony going to be able to bring the IBIS or the Z-shift sensor over to the NEX series or are the rangefinder styled bodies too small?
Time will tell…
Are there going to be any more NEX series cameras except for the ‘rangefinder-bodied’ FF camera?
This is the second ILCE camera that we’ve heard about about in one week and there is almost certainly an ILCE-5000 (guess IBIS and better build, LCD & EVF quality) also waiting in the wings
All we’ve had on the NEX front is the 5T ‘upgrade’, which frankly isn’t
Sony seem to have decided that the rangfinder body should be limited to the ‘very wealthy’ (clearly the only ones with ‘taste’) and that the ‘vulgar masses’ want their mirroless technology mounted instead inside large, fake DSLR bodies
THE million dollar question: HOW and how WELL will A-mount lenses be connected and focused by this camera?
Given that these are their own lenses, I imagine they’d work as usual.
Soon enough you’ll know. Be patient.
But aren’t there adapters to correct for the flange distance of other lenses? And without such adapters, how to physically mount other lenses on E-mount? Abit pointless for the Z-shift if e.g. EF lenses cannot directly mount onto E-mount without the use of adapters.
And if there are new (slim) adapters that will allow users to mount e.g. EF lenses, and retaining AF and using Z-shift to correct for flange, these adapters definitely will not come cheap. The A7000 specs have to be really good to appeal to canon/nikon/other users to buy it and the adapter, or whatever method to allow mounting of non-E lenses on E-mount.
If the sensor can move, it can do AF in the sensor (so you get AF on any lens, including manual/canonikon)
they will still have to do something about aperture control for Canon/Nikon/Pentax AF lenses. But for manual stuff (both rangefinder and SLR), this camera would be a blessing
Ladies and gentlemen… the long-awaited NEX-7 replacement!
Just what you wanted, eh? Oh, sorry, does it look a little big…
How thick is this camera?
(A-mount registration = 44.5mm, E-mout = 18mm. Therefore 18m + 18mm sensor moment = 36mm + some electronics… almost A-mount size)
You didn’t get it, right?
This has nothing to do with the NEX7 successor.
No, you’re right, I didn’t get it
Kindly help me as I am clearly too stupid to have seen where it is *clarified* that this is not the NEX-7 successor
That’s simply clarified by the form factor and name of this body: it has nothing in common with the current NEX-7 except for the mount.
Well, at least you realize it.
And where was it *clarified* that it is the NEX-7 successor?
Thanks for the non-responses, boys
Is ther any reason that you are so sure Sony will continue with the NEX range, other than what is currently in your imaginations?
Honestly, I would like to see some evidence as:
– the 5T non-release
– Sony making a big deal of the FF body having a ‘rangefinder’ style in the last ‘leak’ (ie. viral pre-publicity)
– now Sony leaking details of the A7000 instead of expected replacements for both the A77 and NEX-7
is really making me wonder what the future is for APS-C NEX style bodies in E-mount
“Is ther any reason that you are so sure Sony will continue with the NEX range”
Maybe, if you would have started with that, you would have received something better than a non-response?
“Honestly, I would like to see some evidence”
The best evidence for me is the fact that Sony is the leader in global market share in mirrorless, which is currently the NEX. They have no reason to stop making APS-C NEX bodies, yet every reason to expand on that.
What’s the big deal? You can already fit CAN/NIK lenses to E-mount cameras with adapters. No CAN/NIK lens will fit this camera without an adapter. The key surely is the adapter. Are Sony going to release adapters similar to LA-EA2 to fit CAN/NIK lenses and provide AF even on manual lenses? How is that going to work? Why need a sensor movement on Z axis if an adapter is required anyhow? The adapter will provide the correct distance from sensor plane to lens. Lots of missing info or I am plain stupid.
The latter? The sensor moves to back and forth to get a focused picture while the lens does nothing at all, so it’s the camera what focus, not the lens, so you can mount a old completely manual Leica lens from the 70s and you’ll still get auto-focus. If you don’t understand how this is possible you then don’t even understand how a lens focus, so I recommend you to go find a good book on the basics of photography.
The z-shift will not be used to modify the flange distance (going from E-mount’s flange distance to EF mount’s), but only to focus the picture.
When a picture is out of focus, it is because the object’s image is in front of or behind the sensor.
You can focus the image by :
a) Moving some lens elements
b) shifting the sensor back / forth (by now, only Contax provided these kind of solution)
Solution b) avoid the need of an electronic adapter capable of using in-lense AF (but you will still need an adapter with some electronic to control the aperture). These adapters will, of course adapt the flange distance.
There is some adapters that currently allows AF with non-Sony lenses on NEX, but it doesn’t work very well (very slow). Even the first LA-EA1 is a good example of that (a lot slower to focus than native E-mount lenses : I believe this as to do with the actuators used in DSLR and mirrorless lenses using not the same tech).
The in body AF (z-shift) probably works better.
The focus mechanism in Canon and Nikon lenses could be irrelevant if they can shift the focus plane 18mm. You might just set the lens on infinity or closest focus – whatever is needed to fit the focus range of the lens to that 18mm.
Electronics from the sensor can figure out when the lens is in focus. It won’t be quick on tele lenses, but for most wide angles and normal lenses, it could be competitive with optical DSLRs. Since the film era, pros have made the Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 AF D a workhorse despite slow AF because they know how to manage the focus manually and automatically. Prissy little amateurs want instant AF and power zoom. Pros turn both off.
Smart electronic adapters could link the aperture controls for G lenses to the camera, and Sony would likely sacrifice-price those adapters, particularly if sold with the body.
If this camera can do this, and has an NEX-6 quality EVF, $1200-1500 for the body sells me immediately. If it has a mic input like the D7000, not the AGC crap like on the NEX-7, I could go $2000 for the body. Beyond that, it’s not worth switching out my two D7000s, which work perfectly and are proven reliable.
A new NEX-7 body with the same non-AGC mic input for $1500-1800 would be just as attractive for me. I adore my NEX-6; easily the most fun and satisfying camera since I bought into the Leica rangefinder system with an M4P in 1982. But I still need video workhorses for my business videos, and until Sony fixes the mic inputs, they won’t crack that critical market segment – and I’ll stay with my pair of D7000s.
“ILCE-7000 (European name) or A7000 (US and Japan name)”
The A3000 is called A3000 (Alpha 3000) on Sony germanys website too. So I think the A7000 is called A7000 in germany and europe too. ILCE is only an internal name like SLT too.
Hm, I wonder what they will do with the mirrorless A-Mount.
Likely their series name will be ILCA.
But which A#### name will they get?
One digit number is too unflexible (would need for neweer models to name them M2 or so)
Two digits is currently used by the SLT versions, and three digits have been used for the mirror types in the past. Five digits would be crap.
So what it’s gonna be?
Please mention the source. Mine is Sony Germany. Look: http://www.sony.de/product/dsi-body-and-1-lens/ilce-3000k
Here they say a 3000
I found the link on the german site…
http://campaign.odw.sony-europe.com/wm/new/a3000_de_de.html
Mine is Sony germany/europe too. 😉 Look at:
http://campaign.odw.sony-europe.com/wm/new/a3000_de_de.html
Yo can find many Alpha 3000 on this site and ILCE 3000 too. But on the cam there is only an Alpha sign and 3000. So there is no difference in naming of it in different world regions.
Obviously the Alpha Logo + 3000 is on camera. But the definition is ILCE-3000 🙂
That’s correct, but they gonna promote it as A3000.
If you go on http://www.sony.de you will see the announcment of the “new A3000”
So I guess we’re all right on this matter
yep, we are all right 🙂
In Australa the a3000 is called the e3000, with ilce-3000 as the model code. Personally I think calling it the aXXXX could be confused with the alpha mount
The appear of aXXXX making sense A-mount camera going to be gone soon, just matter of time only..E-mount have such many advantages than A-mount, i don’t think Sony still going keep A-mount for so long. If E-mount having same performance with A-mount, why will customer go buy A-mount again? we still have benefit using any lenses on E-mount but not A-mount. If that so, just focus on making E-mount to the best, don’t wasting source to making A-mount and end up E-mount and A-mount cannot reach the top of the market but hanging in the middle. Just making good A-mount adapter or we can use the A-mount metabones that coming soon too on E-mount..E-mount really having such a big market, so byebye A-mount ='(
This is ridiculous. A-mount users are happy that E-mount is flourishing, but seems E-mount users want A-mount to die. Both A-mount and E-mount will have to co-exist as the A-mount will be the natural upgrade path. Pro and semi-pro users will always need a more robust and powerfull camera and for that the A-mount will be used. What I expect that the E-mount ILCE will replace the A37/A57 type of cameras, perhaps up to A65. The A mounts future will most likely be in the A77/A88/A99 and up. I do expect that Sony will release something even more pro than the A99.
+1
u didn’t get my point..You think im a nex user? sorry i own a99 and many A-mount lenses..you think nex cant be as pro as A-mount? why there is video camera with nex mount but not a-mount. Nex can be pro and can use A-mount lenses as well.
U have a good point.. but.. what if Sony really kill A mount.. that only 2 posibility, 1 A mount user switch to E mount, 2 A mount user jump shift to Canikon.. as in the consideration of 2nd thing happen, i think Sony might coming out a hybrid camera solution for A and E mount…
Sony could make exactly the same mirrorless camera but with a fixed A mount instead of an E mount.
And who would buy it, when the E mount version takes A mount, Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Leica, etc etc lenses, while the A mount version only takes A mount lenses ?
I don’t think this is super good news: many of us were expecting a NEX-9, not an ILCE-9000 with an old fashioned dslr shape.
My guess is they are releasing the ILCE-9000 before the NEX-9 and price it higher. The NEX-9 will not have in-body AF (perhaps not even IBIS) but will be the “cheap” E-mount FF.
I could see the ILCE-9000 in the 3000 usd/eu price range, and the NEX-9 at 2100.
However, if the future is all E-mount (as it would appear with complete ILCE and NEX lines), why release A-mount lenses at all? This is a contradiction to my theory, but I don’t see why sony would keep the A-mount cameras alive.
nex-X will be going to small size and Axxxx will be dslr shape. Yes there is no point that to keep the A-mount anymore. They are not stupid too, NEX have better market, so just focus on nex and make it better to us
I totally agree, but then why release new A-mount lenses? (there are a few rumored to be announced soon!)
It will be several years before we see the end of A mount cameras, and there are many loyal users out there who will buy lenses. Especially if they know that in the future they can still use them, on a universal E mount body.
No way, the NEX 9 is a FF camera made to be small with the only competitor being LEICA. It will be priced accordingly, say around or above flagship DSLR price. NEX=compact and Axxxx is DSLR style. Both line ups will cover cheap and expensive models like NEX-3/A3000 and NEX-9/A9000. Indeed A-mount position is become unsure by the appearance of this prosumer A7000.
If I remember correctly, Andrea posted a rumor about a “cheap” NEX FF.
This, added to the fact that it’s more difficult to have in body AF with a compact-size NEX, makes me think the NEX-9 will have less features than the a9000. It would make sense to make the NEX somewhat less expensive (hard to justify a similar price with such a big feature removed, even if the body is more compact).
this doesn’t mean that the NEx-9 will be a consumer camera. It can still be made up to the best standards, but I think it will be cheaper than the a9000.
OK, I understand. Sounds reasonable taking into account the complexity of the A9000. I still wouldn’t have high hopes though of a cheap FF NEX, since it is in a different market segment as said before, resulting in not too different prices for both models.
What would they otherwise do with their existing production capacity and capital? What about their brand image?
Why cash out of a profitable market so suddenly? Innovation requires time to convince the market.
This gotta be a fake pic! Just look at the mode dial! Wrong side! Next to the shutter knob? No way! Wishful thinking this picture shouts out loud.
LOok at the mode dial of the just announced A3000. Suprise Surprise 😉
http://www.sony.de/product/dsi-body-and-1-lens/ilce-3000k
I clearly see this image was made by taking image of A99, moving mode dial to the other side and replacing mount. All other small details are identical to A99.
I don’t agree: look closely to the pentaprism hump, it is clearly reminiscent of the A77 including pop up flash. It seems a composite of both the A77 and A99.
Agree, looks like real new body.
What about 5 Axis Stabilisation ??????????? Will we see it in sony nex ????????
Well i don’t care about using 3rd party lenses on my alpha to much, but to me this could be a smart move to have a camera that accepts E- and A-Mount lenses likewise without using an extra adaptor. E-Mount for everyday use , A-Mount for backwards compatibility / using my existing lenses or for the bulkier Pro-grade lenses all accepted by one body 🙂 . DSLR shape and usability commbined with smaller form factor and lightweight glasses . I like the idea.
That might make e trade in my A77.
I don´t get the point of a mirrorless camera with a DSLR form factor. If it´s Alpha, ok, but with E-Mount???
depends on how you define DSLR form factor:
Shape: why not, better grip , more dials and function keys for direct access/control, better flash (higher elevation, wider angle), bigger battery, bigger display, …
Size: well the ILC3000 isn’t really a big camera if you look at the test video Andrea . It is definitely MUCH smaller and lighter than any other Alpha SLT/DSLR, but yes it’s bigger than the NEXes , which in my case is exactly why i’ll never buy a NEX , it is far too small for my bear-paws.
The fact whether it’s mirorless or not dosn’t really impact the shape in this case (while it does the other way round of course as you can hardly built a NEX body with OVF and prism in it :-)).
Yes, but they already have a line with DSLR form factor cameras: The A Mount ones, and considering those will go mirrorless as well, why do they Need an E-Mount “DSLR” line? It makes the A-Mount more end more redundant.
The benefit of the a mount is manufacture specific, e mount is an open source mount which allows the of basically all 35mm lenses via simple spacer. The a mount is already established and Sony would do best to continue to support this already dedicated market. By providing two options the existing user base can choice the a mount cameras with familiar performance and feature set or the greater flexibility of the new e mount range while retaining a similar form factor. This provides choice while the transition occurs
Damnit Sony, make it fullframe with decent M lens performance, and I will gladly pay $3k tommorow.
coming! 🙂
Good.
Thanks Admin. You’re really on a roll with rumors!, Congratulations on running the most interesting photography gear site on the net.

If this is really true, it has major implications. Since the autofocus is completely done in the camera, it is no longer required to have any autofocus logic in the lens. Lenses could become simpler and cheaper. All manual lenses will work like autofocus lenses. A lens adaptor can be relatively simpel, no autofocus logic required.
A camera like this would be a universal body, working with any lens on the market, provided that there is an adaptor for the lens mount to E-mount.
Admin: got any info about how Sony planned to physically mount lenses from other manufacturers on this? Since the bayonets (including electronic contacts) differ probably… or will it be shipped with adapters?
adapter.
So the adapters for Canon/Nikon/Pentax/A-mount lenses used today will be needed also for this camera?
A moving Z-axis can work as an extension tube then e.g. for macro. What other advantages are there?
AF.
How / why is the AF an advantage due to the sensor moving in Z-axis?
It gives you AF on an MF lens.
Sony Please do not make some HUGE humongus Vertical Grip for the new 7000/9000
sonys grips are by far the largiest and heaviest of any manufacturer.
If you dont want one dont buy one : Their will be a grip and it will have 3 batterys inn it .
They are also among the best, if not the best in duplicating controls
That’s because grips from CaNikon are rubbish. Sony replicate all the buttons, not just a cheap grip with a shutter release.
Impressive features, but I’m afraid it’ll be too large for me – A3000 is too big IMO. Fingers crossed it’s not.
Looks cheap. Hopefully, it’s actually cheap.
LOL!!! 🙂
What about PDAF on sensor?
+1
I really hope it as 3D tracking performances on par with d7100 / 7d. I was really not convinced by a77 on this point with telelenses. And according to online reviews neither the a77 nor the a99 are sports camera (not the best cameras for sports in term of AF).
Any rumors about a wide angle lens?
I cannot see a flash popup button, does the SAR text cover it, or s it not there?
Come to think of it, I don’t see the lines for the flash either, so maybe it has no flash…
i guess this is due to the image manipulation discussed in earlier comments.
If you look at the real images of the ILC3000 (post from Aug 27th) then you can see the flash pop up button .
imho it makes no sense to keep the “DSLR Pyramid shape” and not use the space on top to build in a pop up flash …
How about A-mount lenses on this camera? Do we still need those AF adapters or do they work without it and still have proper AF via this new z-axis movement?
I am a A-mount owner and would love to have a mirrorless camera, but is this for me or do i need to wait a real a77 successor? If so, when does it come?
yep i am with you use my A-mount Zeiss glass on a mirrorless body and having the option to use a small e-mount pancake for travel .. one body only, all option in it 🙂
I am truly wowed! Amazing how innovative Sony is. This might become huge.
Hmm I’m worried it’s a photoshoppd A99 look at the bottom right of the lens mount, looks like whoever made the image forgot to completely cover up the red ring from the A99 mount :/
I made a mess there. As I told you I hided some details 🙂
The image posted looks identical to this A99 shot down to shadows and highlights hitting the exact same spots on both images. It looks like an APS mount was superimposed on the shot along with the 7000 ICON { which if you look closely does not look correct}/Look at the reflection on the 5 o’clock area of the lens mount in your image compared to the reflection on the lens in the image below.

oh please not again. Just trust me that I have the original image ok? You really don’t see the many differneces between the two images? Example, lens release button 🙂
Yep it’s all fixed now on the iPad.
Nope, it is not because of the image from Xitek. I simply do not see any possible way to have the same exact angle, lighting and dust spot on two different images. That is all. Maybe the source has sent something, or maybe admin has modified something, I do not know and am >simplynot< a judgment on Admin's work at all, as I totally appreciate the work he is doing here.
Made a mistake above: Maybe the source has sent something, or maybe admin has modified something, I do not know and am >simplynot< a judgment on Admin's work at all, as I totally appreciate the work he is doing here.
Ok, the comment system is messing up some characters. I am simply discussing the image and not passing any judgment on Admin’s work.
I think a big grovelling apology is due to jwdoy and Vlad3D, Andrea.
Yes! My apology to both. I was blinded by the fact that I know these cameras are coming. Again sorry. I feel shit. I should have waited for trusted soruces confirmation.
I actually enjoyed this little fake disclosure, so at least for me there is no need to apologize 🙂
Hey no need to feel bad I personally enjoy the detective work, you do a great job here and even inside the lies there is often truth.
I bet there will still be an a7000 and I bet it will look similar to this too!
I take it you still have other sources for the sensor shift af?
yes. Only the image was fake.
Woo!
Don’t take it too hard. Rumors are always hard to check.
I remember when everyone said the picture of the forthcoming NEX-7 was a fake, but it turned out to be just like the real camera.
Let’s hope that in this case the real camera will be less ugly.
Don’t worry. We can pull toilet flush. No bad smell stays here 😉
The word “fake” should be written in large letters across the camera.
What are you trying to hide here Andrea? 🙂
lol. Do not aks, I will never answer this 🙂
So true.
How disappointing 🙁
interesting but more looking forward to a FF NEX camera
Such a camera is still going to require adapters for any “alien” lenses, including A-mount of course. Even if the issue of AF is sorted out, then there’s the little issue of controlling the lens diaphragm. No problem with manual lenses of course (save that if there’s a hybrid on-sensor PAF system it will cause AF issues at small apertures), but for lenses where the diaphragm is controlled from the camera body, it means either a manual control added in the adapter or some very complex reverse-engineering.
Also, as this is meant to have IBIS (quite a lot of extra mass to move backwards and forwards), then the stabilisation system must be aware of the lens focal length. With a prime lens, this could be entered manually, but in the case of zoom lenses the interface has to be electronic.
Also, any adapter for traditional SLR mount lenses will necessarily have to be fairly deep as (assuming the “alien” lens is focused at infinity), the adapter will have to make up the difference between the E mount registration and that of the “alien” mount. This could be 25mm or more. Then the camera body has to be deep enough to absorb all the required sensor movement (including the IBIS mechanism). In all, this could make for a much bulkier arrangement than a DSLR when mounted with the same lens.
In all, there seem to be a considerable number of practical (and cost) issues in supporting alien lens formats. Not a big issue if the primary intention is to allow the utilisation of mainly prime, manual lenses. However, if this is aimed at allowing the use of “alien” DSLR lenses with provision of full AF and aperture control from the camera then there are lots of questions to be raised. I await the full announcement with interest, but I’m not expecting this to be a “golden bullet” which allows for Nikon and Canon owners to migrate easily.
Thanks for good explanation
Awesome! if this comes true, it might tempt me to get my first Sony ILCE! I own the NEX 7 now, and its perfect for travel and such but to bring it for paid assignments is a lil out of place (perfectly capable but it’ll raise the client eyebrows).
And I own a healthy dose of Nikon manual lenses due to I prefer the old look given from manual lenses compared to modern lens look, if this rumour is correct and introduces AF for Manual lenses, it’ll be REVOLUTIONARY! Zeiss would be really pleased with Sony move (they don’t need to ever add an AF motor to their excellent manual primes, I just loooooveee manual lens focusing ring, beats all the AF lenses out there, the Zeiss Touit comes close)
Admin, I have a question. Are we sure that the shifting sensor would be connected to some AF system or is it going to be simply used for adjusting the flange distance?
I am asking for details yet. Don’t know if that AF system works for all lenses (dont’ think so).
Got it, thanks.
this makes 2 things come up in my mind:
1) A-mount will be killed (I’ve stated that before). If this works as it should (I’m still curious about what will happen if you turn the focus ring on an EF lens attached to this body with lens in MF mode and body in AF mode) and the range is expanded with a 9-series as well, there is no point in making A-mount bodies. Unless it’s kept alive in case Sony decides to have a range of OVF cameras (which they have stated that they won’t), something the E-mount seemingly wasn’t designed for.
2) They are re-using the alpha 7000 name from back in the 80´s (the dynax line was known as the alpha line in japan. I have a minolta alpha 9000 as well as a minolta 9000AF, which is the same camera just sold in different countries, sitting in a camera bag right next to me).
A-mount is lenses. These lenses would work fine on the new bodies. End of story.
yes, there will still be A-mount lenses. for some time. but when a-mount bodies are no longer made (with E-mount 7-series, E-mount FF and E-mount IBIS arriving and E-mount 9-series on the horizon, is there any clear advantage left for the A-mount?) there will be no incentive to develop new a-mount lenses. Given the choice of making dedicated lenses or making lenses requiring an adapter to work with the camera your customers are using…
The fact that A-mount lenses can be used with a mount adapter doesn’t mean that A-mount will be actively kept alive.
We are in a transition period.
you could compare it to what canon did. In 1987 they introduced the EF mount. The last FD-mount body came out in 1990.
but Sony are giving us a very good transition from old to new and as long as there are adapters we don’t need to feel overly sad.
Oh, in that sense I totally agree. I am just tired of alarmist comments, so I misinterpreted yours. My bad.
Now this becomes REALLY interesting. Great job Sony!
As I said yesterday this is very interesing to me from the perspective of macro photography, and I might be looking at my next camera. It looks as if it might be affordable and hopefully it will be agressively priced if it’s a market share grabbing camera.
I particularly hope that Sony understand the potential of this Z-axis shift sensor from a macro perspective. What I mean by this is:
If properly integreated with the IBIS this A-axis shift could result in much more effective IS in the close-up and macro region, because as you get closer, for and aft movement becomes critical. In fact this is how I’ve focused macro lenses for the last 30 odd years, by moving the camera backwards and forwards. This is because this fore and aft movement only needs to be slight, which is why IS tends to be less effective in the close-up region, because this is a plane of movement no present IS system can keep up with.
Also it opens the possibility up for focus bracketing, and automated in camera focus stacking for extended DOF. This would probably work best with a global electronic shutter, but this is likely another iteration or so away.
I’d be particularly interested to know 2 things. Does it use Olympus’ 5-axis IBIS because it is rumoured this will be appearing in some Sony cams? Plus does it use electronic first shutter curtain shutter like on the newer NEXs. This system is great for macro work as it provide virtually zero vibration during the exposure.
I assume it will have focus peaking. Hopefully the video implementation will have improved. I think one of the disappointments with the video implementations in some of later large sensored Sony cameras is that the video quality from my old HX9V compact, which I still have and use, was better. If Sony are using the Olympus 5-axis IBIS and that works during video, this could be huge too.
I’m not expecting a perfect implementation the first time. However, this idea has got massive potential as disruptive technology, if it’s potential is fully realized. By this I mean as much custom controllability over this sensor Z-axis shift as possible. This is because it can probably be used in many ways Sony have not envisaged. If Sony allow it to be user programmeable it would be much better than the pre-sets which the manufacturers tend to use. This could highlight further possible uses for this technology, which Sony could then incorporate and develop in later models. The Panasonic GH2 hack, and Magic Lantern for Canon have shown that user customization is sometimes ahead of the curve, and effects feature sets in newer cameras.
using this kind of technique, Alpha Mount body can use E mount lens too…shift forward 26.5mm
I don’t see that working. You would need room for an E-Mount to A-Mount adapter which would mean that the sensor would have to move even further forwards. Given that the E-Mount register is already very shallow, that would be a major problem, especially as that would almost certainly mean the sensor assembly would have to be compact enough to pass through the point where the A-Mount throat is narrowed by the lens contacts in order to facilitate this.
I think you don’t understand what he said.
All you need is to figure out some way to change bayonet shape. And you have a win-win camera: native support for all of the A-mount lenses + an option to use E-mount adopted lenses.
“All you need is to figure out some way to change bayonet shape.”
Nice way to trivialise a technically difficult issue. It’s not simply a matter of the bayonet shape – it’s also dealing with the very different electrical contacts plus interference with the A-Mount lens aperture control, not to mention the AF screw mechanism.
The advantage to using the e mount as a staring point is that with the shorter flange the excess length can be filled with an adapter allowin the full range of z axis shift for focusing.
If longer flange distance is used than there will be less distance left for focusing.
Soooo
Mirrorless A-mount with Z-shift would allow E-mount lenses WITHOUT adapter(dual mount) and provide IBIS
it’s not this camera, but who knows – we might see something like that in future using this technology.
Yes I am talking about A-mount mirrorless NOT E-mount A7000
When you say more NEX lenses, any hints of a fast standard zoom?
Is the sensor in this A7000 going to be the 20MPx of the A3000 or the 24MPx of the A65/77 ?
And if it is the latter, will there be a cheaper A5000 with 20MPx and steadyshot+sensorshift ?
Because the 24MPx-sensor in the NEX-7 does not work well with wideangle lenses (esp.m-mount) and in such cases sensorshift won’t help.
This is probably my next camera. That image stabilization seems to be really good for video.
Andrea is really fooling us today! (Maybe unintentionally?)
The “A7000” picture is definitely based on the same picture the A99 picture referred too above.
– Please stop this fake rumor!
Mikestern, seems like you’re right about the image.
I think the truth is that A7000 is for sure coming very soon and it will look like A77 with some design elements of A99. Close to what we see on this image. Maybe little bit smaller.
Ok, now I´m almost sure this is going to be a hydrid-mount. If the sensor kann move and the body is that thick, that makes absolutly sense.
Andrea, do you know (or can you ask) if these new systems will have the ability to put the lens at infinity when AF isn’t usable?
So is Sony’s plan to now release not only NEX-7x (x being a letter) cameras periodically, but also A7X and A7XXX (X being numbers)?
Its almost like they couldn’t get enough of releasing just 2 lines of camera and had to shoehorn something else out. Oh, and then there’s the FF Nex…
I can only really see this as another nail in A-mount’s coffin, hopefully the A mount will continue just for full frame.
I also believe the image is a fake, apart from the logo area, everything is the same.
That said, I believe the A7000 is coming, when was the last time a SR5 rumor didn’t pan out to be true?
das kommt davon wenn man Gerüchen und Gerüchten nachrennt und diese sofor veröffenticht… lebt Elvis?
aber das ust das Schöne am GOSSIP… believe it or not
I don’t get it, is it a fake or not? 😐
What a massive cock up. Didn’t you make this SR5?
Yes. MY fault guys! Trusted sources now came back to say that while new ILC are on the way this image doens’t look real! My fault. I feel shit now. I shoudl have waited for confirmation form my sources. Pressure to post it fucked me!
No problem at all, we all make mistakes.
Andrea don’t worry.
we love reading even the fake posts. it engages us, makes us write and share.
you try your best. you don’t have to be right at all times.
M
*Comfort Andrea!
Oki the shift sensor is a cool feature but how fast and accurate the AF will be…
Well I guess sony only get 500 dollars for the a3000 instead of 1500-2000 for a a7000
Admin. You take off my comments why! I want to comprehend? If you want i will never make a comment here, anymore!
I took off all comments regarding the discussion abotu the image fake or not. because it’s fake! So these discussion is no more important.
But you take one abaut other thing: The new surprise i+ in mode dial of A3000?
Your gif was very good and white dots in the left hand corner gave it away. You could tell it was photoshopped but I thought the admin had done it to hide info from his source as I’m sure Sony knew gustav gave the admin some info about the a3000. Andrea has said he beats himself up by getting fooled by rumors like this but I think he shouldn’t as there are loads of idiots out there thinking it’s fun to get their shot posted. Does this throw the whole AX rumor in doubt? I have a hard time believing Sony would do it but i think there is a new apsc camera coming but not sure if A or E mount. I hope the FF NEX is coming however if its being released in a few weeks its strangely quiet.
Slingers, I do nopt post any image I get. This image I got from a (now busted) source that knew many things right. So I think this was part of a strategy. Good that trusted sources now came back to me to warn me.
Admin, you take off my comments why! I want to comprehend? If you want i will never make a comment here any more!
I’m actually glad it turned out to be a fake – the mode dial was on the wrong side. To some it may sound petty, but after 20 years of using Minolta/Sony gear – I really don’t want it to be on the side where Canon has it.
+1
I didn’t like it either.
Don’t be surprised to see it there though. Sony will do anything to make their cameras more Canon like, to tempt their users.
Don’t feel bad admin, you’re doing a great job.
I hope this does not mean there won’t be a sensor-shift-camera.
I agree, don’t feel bad about it! This is a rumor site after all.
Personally, I am not interesting in this kind of camera.
Not as portable as the Nex or RX series.
And it is too small (poor balance) for attaching large fast, zoom lens.
However, I hope sony can improve the high iso performance of this camera.
The noise performance of A77 is so disappointing.
and until now there is no firmware to solve the problems.
Still waiting for the FF Nex or A99 MK2 (w/o translucent mirror). 😛
most people would want a NEX or RX style cam I think, not this ugly DSLR style. It would be ok for ugly golden glimmery Nikon or canon lenses, but for old manual lenses, haha, god no!
Well, at least they took the image of an A99 for that fake A7000.
i had that feeling the moment i see it…
image look crap compared to any i had ever see on SAR…
you see NOW why AndreA take time to post rumors waiting for confirmations from others sources!
for the last just great week on SAR this even get better, a cheater busted, thats never a bad thing!
Gino, even the alpha and 7000 logos weren’t straight on tha picture….
You even spent time outlining the photo and did not see it.
Let’ say that you just rushed to post the picture because…
will it has a touch screem? external mic input?
