  1. Why doesn’t Sony just announce all these new cameras and lenses in ONE event, at the same time? What’s to be gained by announcing at different dates?

Enough of the donkey A ss mount news already. Where is the news on the RX2 and MF cameras?

    1. More announcements = more article on blogs/news sites = more exposure. You don’t want to drown the info into a sea of annoucnements.

      1. Apple does it all in one mega-event. And manages ok. However, I will say that the RX10 got squashed by the A7/A7R limelight. The RX10 is one heck of a camera and lens combo.

        1. Apple has a very limited, streamlined line-up so it’s easy to announce. New Iphone? Yeah, new iphone.
Sony’s line-up is more complex everytime. Think about the a3000 which is a dslr-like low-end mirrorless camera.

    2. If Sony had announced the A77MII at NAB it would have gone pretty much unnoticed by the attendees as the A7s is aimed at the broadcast sector and not the stills market.

    3. – Announcing all at once splits the focus and marketing attention.

Rx2 is a cyber shot not an alpha. sAr

      1. That would be a disaster. If you are happy with most of your A-mount lenses auto-focusing like the slowest mirrorless camera out there, good for you!

          1. Yes necessarily, you simply don’t understand OSPDAF and A-mount limitations. There is a reason that the A/E mount adapter has a SLT mirror and dedicated PDAF module, even on the A6000!

          1. There is no “perhaps” about it, just people’s ignorance of how OSPDAF works (or rather doesn’t) with all A-mount lenses.

Sony would support a handful of their own SSM lenses and the rest (i.e the vast majority) of A-mount lenses will be focus s-l-o-w like the slowest focusing mirrorless out there.

It would be a disaster for A-mount users, hence why Sony are keeping SLT.

      1. Historically, that is what it means. All mirrorless cameras are “ILCE”- or “ILCA-” designated, all SLR’s are “DSLR-” and SLTs are “SLT-“

        1. Not sure if it’s right to consider the ILC naming as mirrorless-only based on the relatively short “history” since we all know Sony just recently introduced the ILC naming convention and since then hasn’t released a DSLR/T camera. It seems to me that they’re calling all “Alpha” branded cameras ILCE or ILCA now.

        2. “All mirrorless cameras are “ILCE”- or “ILCA-” designated”

News to me. I have never seen a mirrorless native A-mount camera.

    1. I think Sony is trying to keep their SKUs consistent with all of their new products, eventually I imagine all Sony cameras (which have interchangeable lenses) will be ILCE/ILCA going forward.

    2. I wondered the same thing.
If it ends up being a mirrorless A-mount camera, and this “rumor site” didn’t catch wind of that MAJOR detail, then I think it will be the last time I visit this site.

My guess though, is that Sony is doing away with the DSLR/T naming. The D is obvious, everything is digital. The S is obvious, of course there’s only a single lens.

      1. Wow, maybe you should start your own alpha rumors site. It looks like you really know what’s going on.

      2. This site did mention mirrorless A-mount a long time ago. I know because I was waiting to upgrade to the next A77 back then(2012). However, recent rumors suggest that they will stick with the translucent mirror, which makes me glad I didn’t wait around.

    3. Sony have simply renamed SLT- to ILCA- and that’s it. There was mention of this months ago on SAR. Old news.

        1. If Sony manages faster-than A6000 AF (retaining good tracking AF) and this A77II is truly mirrorless (doubtful), this will be a game-changing camera for the entire industry. Sony may see it as ‘incremental’ but it would be much more than that.

I’ll pre-order two of them for sure.

          1. I don’t see why it would be game-changing. Mirrorless doesn’t bring anything that can’t already be done on a SLT/dSLR.

    1. That’s the old Sony A850 Full-Frame DSLR. This options box seems like a service or support page and not a sales page, hence the list of old models also.

    2. There is this thing, called Google ;)… Would have costed you less time than to type this message here ;)…

  2. After over one year, since last A-mount body launch, we do not know anything. Even exact date of A77ii premiere…

      1. Andrea, Please do not be bothered with such statements. You are doing a swell job and there is a majority in support of you! 🙂

        1. dan • 17 hours ago
Why have we not seen any detailed leaks on the A77II, no photos, no nothing. It was posted here that the release would be at 2pm tomorrow, that is less than 20 hours away? I’m starting to think that we are just being fed timed pre releases info from Sony directly on this site, otherwise someone would have seen this camera by now. The last several rumored releases have been on the heals of the actual release announcements from the vendor.

    1. Bullsh^^t ILC means Interchangeable Lens Camera. Then A or E for the mount… It only means to me that Sony wants tout gather all its camera under only one name… 😉

    1. Agree.. It’s not SLT-A77M2

Would be really interesting if it is mirrorless , I don’t need to change the mirror again !
I change mirrors 2 times now just to get a silhouette shot !
My mirrors burned out because I was shooting into the sun

      1. Seriously? I’ve shot into the sun several times without issue. How long was the exposure? What lens?

        That’s scary…

        1. For wide angle there no big problem.. Just don’t expose it for more than a minute for saftey, But don’t use telephoto lenses
I used a 600mm trying to shoot seagulls against the sun for maybe 10 minutes :/

          1. Ouch…good to know! I’ve always tried to limit direct sun exposure with longer lenses, but I have shot into the setting sun with my 500 Reflex lens a few times. I guess I was lucky!

This is also a reminder to buy a spare SLT mirror…its only $30 some bucks.

      2. LOL, I am surprised the sensor survives, that could mean the mirror is helping to save the sensor. Hmm perhaps mirrors are needed for that type of work as extra protection. :-P. If you try this with a mirror-less camera let us know if it survives please 🙂

          1. No way, I broke the piggy bank to get my RX1, at least I thought it was mirrorless ? now you got me thinking.

          2. Don’t you know? The RX1 has a cheese prism. It redirects the light into the LCD focusing screen.

If you get it, you got it. 😛

    2. True, In Sony Terminology all past mirror-less camera’s have an ILCA prefix. But then Sony keeps changing the definitions so you cannot trust anything they print :-(. Don’t get me wrong I like Sony camera’s but you cannot go on what they say or print due to things like Alpha not meaning Alpha-Mount (Yes it’s the A stands for Alpha and has from the launch of Alpha Line). This is sad and unfortunate for all the confused customers. I would be ok with a mirrorless A-Mount A77 as long as the AF doesn’t suck. Right? But certainly NOT an E-Mount A77 …. KILL ME NOW ! lol

      1. Sony have never used the ILCA prefix before, not for mirrorless or anything else. They used DSLR and SLT for the A-mount cameras and NEX for the E-mount cameras. Then, last year they decided to use the prefixes ILCE and ILCA for interchangeable lens cameras with E- and A-mount, respectively.

Since then, only E-mount cameras have been released, all with the ILCE prefix. Now they are about to release the first A-mount camera since the new naming scheme was introduced, and it will have the ILCA prefix, no matter if it has a mirror or not.

        1. You are correct, they are using ILCE for all 3000, 5000, 6000 & A7, then DLSR for older A-Mount cameras (A100-A900 etc) and SLT for the newer A-Mount (A77 etc), I will be giving myself 40 lashes with a wet noodle

    1. Couldn’t agree more. In 11+ hours i’ll know everything there is to know about these two cameras. No point in speculating now.

    2. That’s not like you Barry. You’re normally pretty free with the speculation.

Oh, have you seen the new rumour about the zoom range of the RX100M3? I seem to remember you speculated it should be 20-2000mm, and that those who suggested you were wrong probably wouldn’t come back and admit their mistakes, or apologise if you were proved right. Will you do likewise?

  3. Just curious, but does this mean SLT is dead… I mean now we have PDAF on Sensor surely it would make sense to loose the Mirror?

I figure the NEX 6000 proved that AF is doable well, without a mirror?

    1. LOL

      I think we’re all curious.

But it makes you feel better, I’ll speak out of my a$$ and answer you.

      Yes, that’s what that means.

      Happy? 😉

    2. >I figure the NEX 6000 proved that AF is doable well, without a mirror?

Nope. OSPDAF is still not so good in low light, where it really matters, because the sensors are so small.

    1. Hubert, that makes very little sense. lol.

Regardless, that progression is better than the competition. While the rest of the world innovates and moves on,

      Canikon is:

From DSLR to DSLR to DSLR to DSLR to, In the Future (only making printers and inspiring t-shirts)

      1. The future is full frame DSLR equipped with a pellicle mirror, and EVF.

Its kinda of funny, people say this mirror-less is the future crap. Olympus has already stated publicly that it is going to start producing new DSLR models, probably full frame, because of the lack of mirror-less sales, and reduced profitability.

This why Canon, Nikon, and Pentax, aren’t committing to mirror-less

    2. Actually mirror-less sales are plummeting genius, so your wrong, and likely a jealous e-troll.

Nikon, Canon, Pentax aren’t interested in mirror-less, because no one wants them. Mirror-less cameras are always on sale for this reason. Zero margin/Zero profit cameras.

The FE-Mount, F-Mount, and A-Mount have a guaranteed futures, the mirror-less camera market will likely be eliminated by smart phones.

Olympus is in the process of developing, a new DSLR, because even they know that mirror-less is a fast fading fad.

      http://photorumors.com/2014/01/09/olympus-may-go-back-to-producing-dslr-cameras-if-mirrorless-sales-continue-to-tank/

I wouldn’t be surprised if Fuji Cameras goes bankrupt or are bought out this year because of its poor mirror-less sales

        1. “I’m sorry, Gav. I’m afraid I can’t do that.”

“I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do (mirror-less).”

          1. So what you’re telling me, is that you are in fact… a paranoid, artificial intelligence.. having a crisis of conscience??? Hmmm that explains a lot…

    3. SLT users won’t turn to E-Mount, they will instead go to Nikon. I don’t think that’s what Sony wants.

  4. Sony A77II additional specs:

    No EVF (only rear screen)
    No IBIS

Does come with that rumored soft serve ice cream maker! Win!

  5. If it has mirror lock and on-sensor af I might take it (if the price is $500) haaaaaaaaa ga mungkin ga mungkin gamungkiinnnn…

    1. +1
After lots of attempts and fantasmatic rumor based on a personal dream, Please SAR, give only accurate information instead of speculations nor constructed rumors…!
