Got some new specs for the A7000 from an anonymous source. So take it with a grain of salt for now:
New sensor (but still 24MP)
3 axis built-in stabilisation which works with any lens you attach
touch-screen
2.3M dot OLED viewfinder
8% thinner (118 x 67 x 42 mm)
dual-axis leveling gauge
Battery Life (CIPA): 460 (built-in stabilisation off)
True specs or not let’s hope the A7000 is coming soon!

would be barely worth an upgrade…..
Compared to what?
Compared to NEX-7 it will be worth it because of newer sensor, faster autofocus, new menu and jpeg engine, IBIS.
Compared to A6000: LEVEL GAUGE! Tri Navi, IBIS, better build quality.
Glory to God 🙂
you mean that we will never see that camera?
lol
Newer APSC 24MP sensor. If A7000 is mid-pro class, surely 5 axis IBIS will be installed. Hybrid AF like A6000 seem to be installed too. However, 4K internal still remain skeptical. So no 4K but gains 5 axis IBIS and hybrid AF, which you choose 🙂
Indeed Sony might want to protect their more expensive 4K cameras, but still they also have to compete – and Samsung is advancing rapidly in technolgy.
I can’t imagine why, having developed 5 axis IBIS, that only 3 axis would be installed on what’s meant to be a top-of-the-line APS-C camera. The only possibility might be if 3 axis stabilisation was more compact than 5. However, as 3 axis requires the ability to move the sensor in the X-Y plane and rotate round the Z axis, I don’t see how that can be as those movements all suffice for 5 axis compensation.
No, 3-axis compensates for pitch, yaw and roll, i.e. three kinds of rotation. 5-axis also compensates for movement along the x- and y-axes, which is mostly important for close range photography, like macro.
The above is true regarding Olympus’ IBIS, but I don’t know if Sony 3-axis compensates for the same things as Olympus 3-axis.
Anyway, it’s the correction for pitch and yaw that requires space in the “third dimension”, so the thickness of the camera isn’t affected by the choice of IBIS. 3-axis doesn’t let you make the body thinner.
No IBIS system tilts the sensor to compensate for pitch/yaw. It might, theoretically, give a tiny advantage, but in practice the movement in X-Y plane is all that is used. The difference a “5 axis” or “3 axis”system has is the ability to rotate the sensor round the Z axis. However, no IBIS system rotates sensors round the X or Y axis.
The old A-Mount IBIS system corrected for pitch/yaw too, but it lacked the ability to rotate the sensor to compensate for roll (and I suspect the sensors could only detect pitch/roll and not lateral displacement).
Anyway, the point was that I could only see deploying 3 axis IBIS would be justified if it enabled the mechanism to be simpler and slimmer, but that’s not the case. A 3 & 5 axis use exactly the same movements then I don’t see how that could be true.
i can live without 4k
My big hope is that the A7000 will have an electronic silent shutter!!
Highly unlikely with 24MP. The way silent shutters work on mainstream CMOS sensors makes silent shutters difficult on all be relatively low resolution cameras.
Well, Fuji and Panasonic manage to get silent shutter on their 16MP sensor. I think that Sony is developping cheap global shutter. Sony should have the technology to have at least an electronic shutter with 24MP. It is still better to have an electronic shutter with a big rolling effect than not having any electronic silent shutter! That way, Sony could keep up with Fuji and Panasonic!
I agree. Give electronic shutter option. For those shooting timelapse videos of landscape, it will be a boon.
Of course, do not use electronic shutter while shooting action. Its a choice!
Very innovative
I’d prefer 2.7K over 4k. Don’t care one way or the other 2 axis vs 5 axis, I mostly use a tripod. Viewfinder resolution is the same as an Olympus E-M1. Will it have a Flippy Screen like the Canon 70?
But most importantly, when will it actually ship?
Tri-Nav?
Touch Screen?
Mic-in?
We also need two lenses badly, a 24mm and 85mm f/2 or better.
3-axis sounds reasonable as Sony do not want to have a fat body.
Yes, a 85mm/90mm f/1.8/2.0 is needed.
If you mean 90mm equivalent, the Sigma 60mm/2.8 is insanely good for its price!
http://www.photozone.de/sony_nex/841-sigma60f28nex
Corresponds to DOF of 4 on FF. Because of this I pass on it.
True, but it is exceptionally sharp from fully open, the bokeh is pretty good as well and the DOF is still shallow enough to work with for most situations.
https://www.flickr.com/search/?q=sigma%2060mm%202.8
I won’t deny it has it’s use. I personally prefer faster primes (even though they get larger).
It still gives you more separation than many f1.8-f2 lenses. because it’s got a much better defined focal plane than those ‘dreamy’ (=full of spherical aberration) lenses.
You must be one of those “I want only tip of the nose in focus and everything else blurry” artsy fartsy photographres 😀
Partly 😉 Depends on distance. On events using a 50/1.4 on full frame gives nice separation at a few meters away (enough DOF here) and allows me to use low ISO or higher shutter speeds. If I am closer, I use higher F-numbers. But I want to have the _option_ to do this 😉
what’s wrong with the current 24mm f1.8?
Aha..it is excellent, I own it, but it is 36mm equ. not wide enough.
The existing 24mm (16mm f/2.8) is a poor lens.
I wish they update it with better optics and a tad faster. (f2 would be good)
It is ok, but APS-C E mount need more and better lenses urgently.
– 16-50 f2.8
– Prime tele
– Macro lens
– Much more
and one FE 24-105/4 🙂
And what’s up with those Sigma e-mount lenses? Haven’t heard a thing about ’em in a while.
Yes, these small and affordable Sigma lenses are the coolest thing in E-mount land. I love my Zeiss 24/1.8, but honestly it is a little too big and was way too expensive. I hope Sigma will continue with their E-mount APS-C line.
There was a rumor here, that Sigma will release a 18-50 2.8 lens for E-mount. The Tamron 17-50 non-VC is really compact and has terrific IQ. I hope Sigma will make something like that for the new A7000 (hopefully will have IBIS so the lens doesn’t have to). And a bit more competitive pricing on those Zeiss primes and e-mount aps-c is (kind of) saved imo.
EDIT: Or did Sigma mean they just make an E-mount version of their “old” 17-50?
The existing Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC is one fine, compact lens. However, it will be quite long as E-mount version. But either way it would be nice if the rumor is true.
Thats what YOU need. I don’t need no more big bulky zoom lenses for APS-C E-mount. Moderately fast AND compact primes is what I want.
So, to each their own.
As you can read, I not only spoke of zoom lenses. Do not understand where the problem is.
No problem at all. 🙂
5 axis is mostly for macro photography right? Then it might be reasonable to only include 3 axis since there are basically no macro lenses for APS-C emount right now. I´m happy with 3 axis and vastly improved focus. If they make an upgraded pancake zoom that would be sweet too,
Yes, 5-axis adds x- and y-axis movement to the pitch, yaw and roll that 3-axis corrects for. Since movement along the axes have the largest impact at close distances, it’s important to correct for those when shooting macro.
you can use any e mount lens, and A lenses with adaptor, etc. 🙂
To be honnest there are two native macro lenses you can use on the APS E-mount cameras: The 30mm and the 90mm macro lens. And you can adapt a zillion macro lenses from other brands (I use a Sigma 105 f/2.8 macro on my A6000 with the LA-EA1 adapter, it works great, would love to have stabilisation in that lens…
Sigma make an OS version of that lens in A-Mount that you can use.
There are currently two E-Mount macros, the 30mm and 50mm and a 90mm is coming very shortly.
and compact small body like Canon 5Ds ?
Sounds more like my wishlist….too good to be true…
don’t worry its false… just for fun and comments 🙂
If it’s what we all want… why they don’t do it?? everything listed sounds technically possible right?
everything listed was technically possible already years ago… 😉
I know… in that small size I mean
The touchscreen will be nice for autofocus video shooting but it will be terrible for photo shooting. I hope there will be an option to turn off this feature because I don’t want my face/thumb/static touching the screen and changing the setting randomly.
I welcome the a7000 and im ready to preorder! where is the link?
Touchscreen is fantastic for manual focussing and would be my number one reason to upgrade from the A7 – before IBIS, higher sensitivity or resolution!
Exactly!
You could disable the touch screen in a NEX5. So, no need to complain about this feature.
Hey… and nothing about the A5? If it was FF and smaller, lighter, without EVF and the hump, but with IBIS, would be great!
I have hope that A5 will be with EVF
No, they will remove such costly components to make the camera inexpensive. Think NEX-5, like the guy above said.
If there is really an A5 in the pipeline, it will likely be ultra compact like a nex5. That means no IBIS and no EVF. At least this would make sense to me.
I thought it would be EITHER IBIS or 4k not both – they need to save something for A8000 and milk you for more cash.
So you think they will have an A3xxx an A5xxx an A6xxx an A7xxx and an A8xxx all in crop plus whatever models they are planning for FE?
Sony has 5 axis working on A7 II so why only 3 axis? is it to protect A7 II?
no, to keep it thin and compact, if you like bulky cams, go for A7II
100% agree
Maybe they don’t want any out-of-plane movement (because of thickness) and only in-plane (vertical, horizontal, roll) correction in the camera. The stabilized lenses bring pitch and yaw correction so with a stabilized lens there would be 5 axis… Though I really hope for 5-axis IBIS and the abolishment of in-lens stabilization for the sake of smaller/lighter/cheaper lenses.
The in-plane IBIS would explain why the thickness doesn’t increase as in the case of A7(II). I could image Sony would still try to keep the APS-C bodies small, even for their high end model. So the rumor does make sense for me, maybe except for the touchscreen? But level gauge is something i definitely would expect in an A7000 since the A6000 has none.
Wasn’t the A7II thicker because of IBIS? How is the A7000 thinner?
No 4K if the body is this small I guess.
Maybe 3axis doesn’t need as much space as 5axis
I hope these are fake anyway 😀
5-axis corrects for pitch, yaw and roll, as well as movement along the x- and y-axes. 3-axis (at least in Olympus’ implementation) only corrects for the first three, removing the up-down and left-right movements.
So both forms of IBIS would require the same amount of space regarding the thickness of the camera.
E-M10 has 3axis and the size is like a6000
… and a smaller sensor of course. Apples and oranges …
LX100 has 4K and a small body
But isn’t the recording time limited to 15 min, due to heat build-up?
The time limit is to protect the GH4 sales. There can be no heat build-up in the LX100.
Either way, it’s still 15 minutes and that’s not good.
15 min sounds totally sufficient to me. A continuous 15 minute take is extremely long. I never ever needed it.
I remember Alfonso Cuaron‘s single 17-minute opening take in Gravity. Yes, for him the LX100 wouldn’t have made it.
In reality, the 15 min restriction is no big deal in my book.
We’re all different and have different requirements. Fifteen minutes in say an interview setting, using this a a B or C camera is a PITA, there I’d want a camera I can place, hit record and let run. Tending to multiple cameras in certain settings “for me” becomes problematic. YMMV.
Interesting point. I guess I have to take my comment back. 😉
Only using 12MP from an already small (4/3) 16MP sensor.
Well we expect some progress from Sony don’t we ?
Otherwise it will be Samsungs turn.
The dimensions would be perfect!!! a little bit thinner than a6000 but more handy than a5100. If the grip is ok… perfect camera (dimension-wise)
SR2 same ‘nothing’
Metal mount and uncompressed RAW or don’t bother releasing it!
Why make it thinner?! Keep it the same size putting a bigger and better battery in it!!
iPhones get smaller/thinner every generation but the batteries never get any better and sometimes get worse….improve batter life and keep them the same size!
Thats right, we all want better battery life. But honestly, I prefer a compact size over any other feature. (I give a f*** about any function when it’s in a camera which is left at home and not in my bag due to it’s size and weight)
The problem is that all NEX (and Alpha E-Mount) cameras share the same battery. I do possess 4 of those for my A7, and I find it really convenient to be able to use those batteries on other cameras. Maybe they could develop a “mk2” battery with more capacity but which would still fit on all cameras
Battery that is bundled with a6000 has empty room inside, you can queeze it, it was possible with battery bundled with old nex5, new battery is also lighter, so for sure it is possible to use this empty space (2mm i guess) and produce higher capacity battery.
* correction, it was NOT possible with older battery bundled with nex5, older batteries were also heavier
You could squeeze Panasonic batteries too, they say it’s for venting hydrogen should it accumulate under abnormal circumstances to avoid explosion.
SONY, we need badly 16mm f2 good quality (best Zeiss ZA) lens for APS-C!!!!! Your current 16/2.8 is a fuc*ing joke!
And give to A7000 -2EV focusing at least. You say it is High End”, right? So do not cheat us!
*You* need a 16mm f2. Not many other people do…
Have you tried the Samyang 16mm t2.2?
He means 16 mm and i add to it 20 mm 2.8 pancake lenses. Samyang is ok, but look the size?
The Samyang 16mm is a huge 600g lens constructed for DSLRs and has no AF.
A 16mm f/2 lens made for mirrorless APS-C cameras would be smaller and about half the weight.
I’m sure many who already own and use the 24mm f/1.8 lens would like to compliment it with an at least equally good wider prime.
Agree, there are already a few good ZA lenses 24/1.8, 32/1.8 and 55/1.8 (50/1.8 OSS is also good), but no WA, so 16/2 ZA is really needed! I hope also A7000 will focus futher than 0EV only.
32mm is not a ZA, but if you are including it why not the 12mm?
Whatever they say it is it should still be cheaper than the competition.
Never heard of Samyang 12mm 2.0?
Crazy sharp, thumbs up by PetaPixel.
And a slim 245g only.
What’s with the crazy battery life? IGZO screen and EVF? That’d be great though.
the battery life will eventually only be around 360 shot’s with 3Axis IBIS on, like the Olympus OM-D E-M10 with his 3Axis IBIS on = 320 shot’s !!!!! that is much less shot’s ?
No, not necessarily so. The CIPA value has accounted for use of flash, display etc used a number of times , if I remember correctly. Should be possible to get more pictures than the CIPA number if no flash or display is used
CIPA numbers are based on 50% flash use, i.e. half of the shots taken with flash. Don’t know how they calculate regarding EVF, IBIS, WiFi and other battery drainers.
If no good zoom like a 16-50 F2.8 or 16-50 F2.8 – 4, then I am thinking of going to Olympus, they have a very good 12-40 F2.8 constant lens, now I have heard somwhere that Sigma is in planning of a 16-50 F2.8 – 4 zoom lens for the Emount, is it wrong, is it for APS-C or FF ? can anyone confirm this ? thanks.
Sigma has a patent application which describes huuuuuge 17-50/2.8 lens. there were no info if it’s going to be produced (more likely not…)
The existing Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX is not that big. I guess the 17-50/2.8 is a full frame lens. If Sigma makes it APS-C only, I don’t expect it to be huge.
It’s 117 mm long.
http://egami.blog.so-net.ne.jp/2014-11-19
if you’re so dumb how can you operate a PC?
Yes, my point is, 117 mm is not that big for a 17-50 f2.8 E-mount lens. Seems that I have a different definition of “huuuuuge”.
If you are so narrow-minded that you can’t accept others opinions without calling them dumb, you should not operate a PC, even if you are intelligent enough to do so.
This is the heart of the e-mount problem. Pretty good bodies – but what lens to put on them. I don’t need an f/2.8 zoom – but I do need a high quality optic. Something like a 16-70 f/4 with high quality optics (and for gods sake – no power zoom).
The inventor of the power zoom should be hanged on his feet 7 days and crucified afterwards.
video guys may disagree with that
no point on power-zoomed lenses for video if they are not parfocal. So far only the 28-135 FE is
Are you sure about that? Take a look at the FE 4/24-70 for starters!
That hurts like a mother……………
What about the Zeiss 16-70mm f4?
That is a decent lens – but overpriced.
18-105/4 G-lens is not overpriced.
No – but has the dreaded power zoom.
Power zoom is acceptable. It is terrrible only when camera slowly starts/stops.
I think there will be no fast zoom lens for APS-C E-Mount because of small bodies. I wish there will be fast focus-fixed crop lenses like 85/1.8, 24/1.4, 16/2, 200/4, 50/1.2.
I know it’s not really the solution you’re looking for, but I’ve been using my A-mount 16-50mm f/2.8 SSM via adapter on my a6000, and it’s a good combo. It obviously adds a little bulk, but still easy to handle and fairly light. Of course, if you don’t already own A-mount cameras/lenses, that’s probably not the route you’d want to go. I do agree that they need to come up with a good, native e-mount equivalent, as the 16-50 kit lens they sell with it now is a joke (when you’re used to shooting with sharper, faster glass); though I do like it’s pocketability.
GPS onboard please!
I cant believe Sony will release a model above the A600 where the only significant feature is IBIS. All the rest is just a few mega pixels here and there in the screens…
This must have 4K.
Surely.
Surely?
*A6000
IBIS is a great addition but I don’t think it’s enough to up-sell most people. Sony will *have* to provide more incentive for the A7000 to be a sales success.
4K? Weather Sealing? Silent Shutter? Touch Screen? GPS?
2 or 3 of these must be added as well.
GPS and 4K are not really necessary. Touch Screen will be (according to rumor), silent shutter would be great, but I don’t think they’ll do it with 24 MPix matrix. I hope A7000 will be weather sealing and with 1/8000 (or less) minimum shutter speed.
But anyway, with IBIS and fast focusing, I will buy it.
If they increase the size of the camera, I won’t buy it… all the features are welcome but not bulky cameras (we have a7x cameras for that)
Agree. A little bigger than NEX-6 is acceptable (because of IBIS), but not SLR-style like A7!
a6000 is already few mm thicker than Nex6/Nex7… so for me, a6000 size is the limit. I prefer not having IBIS (I can have my bulky stuff for that)
I think GPS is almost out of most cameras due to battery draining. A ad don like Nikon has would be nice. But some cameras can do GEO tagging Via cell phone
I agree. Most all their few Emount lenses have OSS anyway But I am a firm believer in having IS in body as that can make lenses smaller and lighter and cheaper
Not sure it will be a7000 I think A6100 No 4k. No weather sealing no GPS. And I would me very surprised if it had Touch LCD Fuji and Sony just do not seem to want to put Touch LCD even though all of us use touch LCD every day on our cell phones I think they are pleasing the Purists
They put touch screen on a5100 several months ago… I don’t know why they would refuse that on a7000
I have a Nex5n and it has limited touch Does not the A5100 just have the same. No touch to focus. Just simple menu control. To med Touch to Focus and Shoot is so important And is not in the Nex 3s and never been in the nex6 / a6000
IBIS is enough, it should be standard if they want to call it Alpha line then it should have IBIS like all the A-mount cameras have.
that stupid mic input
Any rumor about weather sealing? Sony has to give us something to compete with the EM1 and EM5ii, both of which are (or will) be weather proof and even freeze proof, but also the XT1 and NX1 which are just plain weather resistant. Of course, bring us lenses to go with that. Fast AF is useful for pros, but I’d be worried to rely on a body that couldn’t stand to be splashed…
The A77II is meant to compete with those.
I forgot another important feature: focusing in low light. Something similar to Panasonic will do, the gx7 can focus at -4 EV!
I don’t think so: Sony isn’t good in CDAF algorythms. A7s is strong in low light because it can “see” through the dark. 🙂
Good point. The Panasonic GX7 is such a good camera and is amazing in focusing in low light
I also would like to see Touch LCD with Touch To Focus like on the GX7
yeah it’s quite pathetic if A7000 is not specced at -4 EV like GH4 and GF7 .. ho humm
Waterproof to 700 meters.
+shitproof to 50 meters
I want to see the part of the promo-video about that feature.
true 14bit RAW lossless uncompressed not necessary for A7000 ?
** campaign reminder for sony **
No way. Who wants RAW files that big! 😉
Who is so poor that the size makes any difference. 64 SDXC cards cost 18 euros .. you cheap moose.
No, 64 bit raw files please!
When Sony decide to make 14bit, it will probably be on 36mm first.
8% thinner than what? I still find all these A7000 rumours unbelievable. I think a lot of people will be disappointed when Sony does a simple A6000 to A6100 bump. Sony saw (and still see) the A7 as the NEX-7 replacement. A quick comparison of their respective release prices will tell you that.
I suspect what you are suggesting an A6100. They have been hanging on to 3-5-6 for some time and I think they see the A7 as the nex7 upgrade Hard to see that since there is a a5100xxx on the way soon that there would not be an A6100 coming soon The A7 got an upgrade which was a 5axis IBIS so it makes sense that the a6000 would get IBiS The Oly OmD em10 is 3axis. The Panasonic GX7 is 3xis so makes sense the a6100 will only get 3axis
I just have a hard time seeing the a6100 with Touch LCD Seems Fuji and Sony have something against Touch LCD for their more advanced cameras Ironic as Sony makes smart phones an all of us use Touch LCD every day There can be an option to turn off for the Purists Just to long since the NEX7 should have had an upgrade and would make things confusing to have A7000 an A7
I really hope Sony gets it together this time, and releases an A7000 that has 120fps mode for slowmotion shooting in 720p. Like they announced A5100 would have, but what was lacking from A5100 when it went on sale…
Agree!
NX1 has 120fps h.265 at 1080p
If this rumor is true, would that 3-axis IBIS combined with OSS make 5-axis stabilization?
No. They are the same 3 axis that OSS lenses use.
Must haves, otherwise fail:
* 50 megapixel FF sensor
* 7 Axis stabilization
* 20 FPS with unlimited buffer
* 64 bit raw files
* Unlimited battery life
* 16K internal video recording in raw format
* 80% thinner
* 80% lighter
* Mount strong enough to tow a train car
* Kit lens with 100,000 of resolution
* Under $500
Weak!
It needs to be 100mp medium format
Earthquake axis stabilization
Gatling gun fps
Sirloin raw files
Nuclear power battery
Bare minimum
>Nuclear power battery
That’s so 20th century. I want annihilation based battery. No need for critical mass, no byproduct… Just two vacuum chamber with material / anti-material at the center and you’re ready to go!
As ridiculous as that all sounds, it’s likely to be the typical specs of a camera a decade or two from now. Don’t know about the mount though. LOL
Yawn..
Another yawn. Even the troll’s aren’t interesting today.
MOST IMPORTAND SPEC is <600$ Startprice. Then naturaly go down in first 3 months to
499–THEN BUY.
IF NOT
SAMSUNG NX-500 is the winner.*
That is the truth about the 2015 camerahorsemen… hehehe….
and yes 4k..
if nO 10 bit on HDMI-PORT = NOGO=NOBY= WORTHLESS = *
That crap has no EVF. I hope we get an NX1 competitor.
a7000 is a high end aps-c mirrorless…competition for your $2000 NX1.
For the cheap price point, you already got a5100.
we in Europe have enough place for filming so please NOT always THINNER!!
ore is this the garbage-MARKETING to tell the idiots the idiots-storry like this:
” and so it gets hot intern and so we can not bring 4k in 10 bit intern!”
do we have 2015?
did we see 2 men on moon 1696?
was Albert Einstein in his postal Office ( 4qm2) and hat made RELATIVITY THETORY
is the EARTH a plane Circle again?
is it now 1415?
so please stop this nonsens marketing bullshit..okay..please..
next rumor page could be this: china-highend-cam-4k.com
hm? viva las vegas 70:30
This… makes absolutely no sense.
My theory is that this guy speaks some asian language which can’t be well machine-translated, and he has no clue at all about english and has to take google-translate’s word.
He’s propably a real weirdo, too
Racist
What is racist ? It’s a fact that automatic translation creates jibberish, especially when you try to translate chinese or japanese to english or french.
Anyway, I’d rather see people trying to write in the sites native language even if it’s not flawless instead of in their native language.
I’m looking forward to the A6000 successor. But I hope that it will have the following:
– Mic input
– 16 MP sensor for better low light stills
– IBIS, 5 axis would be amazing
– Keep similar form factor
I still think the A6000 is an incredible camera. Thanks Sony 🙂
Sony is making all the right moves and I am very excited about this camera and the future of imaging. This is what Nikon should have done with the 1 series, unfortunately it’s a brilliant example of crippling the engineers instead of brilliant engineering. The NEX and now alpha series are what most every photojournalist I ever met always wanted, and more. The a6000 is the best camera value in history, what’s next Sony?
I hope this new sensor is better than the a6000. I was so stoked to get the a6000 but had to return it because of one fatal flaw that made it useless: when shooting back lit portraits, I would get extreme bayering and see white lines through out my image, garbage!
I’ve never seen that in back-lit scenes. Maybe you just got a dud.
I saw the same light smear when shooting backlit photos through the EFV, but it won’t show up in the final photo. Apparently it is just some light reflection in the EVF chamber.
no mention of weather sealing? I’m slightly disappointed. I think that the A6000 or aX000 series cameras are perfect for the hiking/backpacking world. I just wish they were weather sealed. I have actually no beef with the a6000. I think its a great camera! the A7000 will be better but with that said. I can now pick up an A6000 in March for dirt cheap. Perfect compliment to my A7.
I agree. Weather sealing would make this line perfect for what I need. IBIS is a welcome improvement, too, but it’s not as important to me as weather seals and a more rugged build.
You’d think weather resistance would be standard by now…
Meh. No reason to upgrade from A6000. Thinner? Why would they think that is a selling point? Is the A7000 targeted at tiny m43 users?
It is for me and for many people. This segment is for people who want compact and light systems… there’s already bulky options (a7 series) with more features and dslr cameras.
If you see the rumor specs, the size is only a little bit thinner and still thicker than a5100
I don’t want anything bigger or heavier than a6000 (I’ve already have my big stuff) and a little bit thinner would be perfect for me if they still improve the features.
As you can see, everybody has different needs so for me is a selling point.
Sony has now been sound asleep since 2012, producing monsters.
Will the Japanese giants awake from their slumber anytime in 2015?..
Slog 4k 100mbps 4:2:2 go sony go is only a software implementation
And 10 bit (at least external).
Will the A7000 be the solution for me…??? I got A-mount lenses but no small A-mount camera to buy. At least the A7000 got IBIS. Now I need an “integrated” adapter and not a pimple with older technology.
MIC input. I reapeat MIC input and -4EV focusing like the GirlFriend 7 , GH4 (GF7)
+1 mic input and full electronic, silent shutter mode wooohooo, then I’ll get two
YES we all need MIC input
all? more likely 2%
Make it al low light beast….. Focus Sensitivity EV -4 (Now EV 0 )
I didn’t care too much about big number of mega pixels but now I’ve upgrated my iMac to the new 5K. The 16M file no longer cover the whole monitor without being stretched. 24M is a new standard. Photos without stretching looks fantastic on the 5K monitor!
These images where taken with A6000 which works for me as a “pocket” cam just perfect. I am sure, that A7000 could be a nice improvement of cam which is already great. I use best lenses and I am pretty impressed with SONY in-camera software.
Well, judging by the hundreds of comments, the a7000 is a very anticipated camera for Sony. People obviosly want a smallish aps-c camera with a few professional features and it’s a segment that Sony don’t fulfil right now. Let’s hope they don’t screw it up!
16MP
IBIS
Weather sealing
Internal 4k to Xavcs with 100Mbps(+) codec
1080p at up to 100fps
Mic input and headphone jack
Multi interface hotshoe (like A7)
Peaking and Zebras
Full WiFi control (like GH4)
Log profile
Come on Sony, I’m very close to pulling the trigger on a GH4 but would prefer aps-c and Sony colour science as well as a Log profile.
Oh, and I want great low light ability. Doesn’t have to be as good as a7s but clean to 3200iso would be nice.
Nice? APS-C with clean 3200 would be a blast. I hope for clean 1600 ISO, that would be veeery nice. Even FF with clean 3200 are rare, although “clean” is subjective term.
You’ll be waiting for those specs a long time.
If, and that’s a big if, an A7000 is realised (there are no solid rumours anywhere on the net whatsoever), I guarantee it will not have a 16mp sensor.
Who’d thought Sony would come up with a 12MP full frame sensor?
Doesn’t have to be 16MP exactly just not huge Megapixels at the expense of bad lowlight performance.
A6000 does fine and I really appreciate the 24mp over the 16 my 5N has.
I wouldnt even want it to have 16 MP. ISO improvement would be minor, i guess around 1/4 stop. And i would miss the resolution of nex7.
On the other hand, i dont think i would like to have 36mp either. 24 is perfect for APS-C with current light gathering capabilities.
Well without trying a 36mp sensor I can’t say. I would think it stands to reason that you would lose some iso performance going to 36mp. I know the 24mp is actually more useful than I thought it would be.
Thats exactly what i thought. I dont care for ISO25600, but i think even ISO800 would be compromised with 36mpix. Except in the case of some cool new technology.
I’m not arguing one way or the other. I’m just saying that if an A7000 is released, I guarantee it won’t have a 16mp sensor. More specifically, it won’t be less than 24mp.
Without high-end native lenses to support this new camera wheres the motivation to upgrade?
Missing great primes, macro, and telephoto to start.
Have the 6000 with 16-70 and it’s a nice combination but I wish I had the lens selection Fuji is putting together.
Even if you’re not a Fuji fan, you cannot deny the fact that their Lens lineup is excellent.
35 1.8 and 50 1.8 qualify as great imho. Upconing Macro and the have a couple 200mm zooms. Can’t speak to Fuji. I am having to much fun with the bang for the buck leader Sonys 🙂
Also Sigma has patents for new aps-c lenses
Love to have tri navi like my NEX7
Is one more wheel really that much better? Seriously I am curious I have an A6000 and wonder if it would be nice or if it us in the really a big advantage area.
Of course its better. More the wheels, less bothering with menus. You take photos faster, set up everything without even removing your eye from EVF. I use all 3 exposure parameters on NEX7 wheels, almost always shoot manual, and it goes great. Maybe i would even like one more wheel for white balance.
Well with the extreme customization you can do to the A6000 I don’t have to leave the evf either. I suppose it might be easier initially. I would like to see 🙂
I hope they will solve the overheating issue in video, but hearing that it would be thinner than a6000 , makes me guess that the problem won’t be solved, it may be worse with a thinner body. Why don’t they use a Peltier cooler like the balckmagic pocket camera has?
It’s 13 degrees in Connecticut right now. I appreciate that overheating issue. It keeps my hands warm.
The hotter it feels to the touch, it means the heat dissipation works better and the the internals are cooler.
hahaahah. funny
Weather sealing, why isn’t this a bigger issue? I’ll upgrade in a heartbeat if it has weather sealing. Weather sealing would go a long long way, and instantly make the camera the class stand-out for outdoor use. The ONLY thing the a6000 is missing which makes me regularly wonder whether I should have gone with the more expensive, heavier, slower, lower-IQ Olympus (but with more lens options!).
– IBIS
– 4K
Those are the (relatively simple) things that made me not buy the a6000.
Add a silent shutter (i thought all cameras were capable of this???) and a microphone input and I’ll definitely get it.
However I will not wait any longer for Sony to innovate and get the GX7 successor. Seriously guys. Every modern smartphone can do this.
hmm yes, modern smart phones use small sensors like GX7 to, which is why their image quality is sub-par, night shots are just crap, and where is the awesome flash system to work with it… oh thats right its in the dark like their lenses
Can we get 7000 comments for the A7000? Show some love here people.
for me only better zoom 16-50 (sharpness) and weathersealing
I will only upgrade from A6000 to A7000: SILENT SHUTTER ,3 axes ibis, better sensor and still light in weight!
Silent Shutter and IBIS would be incredible. I am in a constant wait for the right sony camera and lenses to be announced so I can finally sell my Nikon kit.
I brought hte wife the A6000 which I enjoy a lot, the A7000 would be a nice step to get myself to sony brand
I can’t wait… I’m still on 5R, I want IBIS for my legacy lenses. :p
Probably it’s coming this week 🙂
I’m still waiting for this, any news? CES15 has already happened and there was no A7000 there. I was about to get the A6000 but after some reaserch I saw these rumors and the on-camera stabilization, 4K video and such would REALLY make want to wait this instead of getting the A6000. Nothing new on the subject yet?
