  1. Umm isn’t that false advertising when we all know the list price is 2299.99 (including a free Grip valued at $379) direct from the Sony Store?

      1. Yes, that’s defiantly a good deal! but, I’m just saying the list price is not $2799.99 as they are advertising… The list price is really $2299.99 so if they want to claim a %25 and -200 off price the list price then it should be a total of $1525.99

        1. Disctounts are most often related to the original list price, not an already discounted one (which the $2299.99 is). Even the official US Sony store stills mentions the original $2799.99 (list price) and tells you they give you a $500 discount (hence $2299.99), before accounting for saving on the VG.

        1. Which photo is from the A7 and which from A99? by the way, I bought the A7 with 55 1.8 FE lens, I LOVE the image quality!!! the thing is, I shoot weddings, and because the body is too small, pairing it with F60M flash and LA-EA4 to an A mount lens is just giving me unsecured feeling. and Remember I had to shoot many low light shots in weddings, and A7 does not have IBIS, I increased high ISO and it was nice though…

          1. Congratulations on your excellent new camera and lens, the A99 on left, A7 on right. Keep in mind these images were taken over a year apart with different lenses so I wouldn’t expect them to look exactly alike. Overall the A7 looks a bit better to me after viewing a number of images.

        2. I am so glad you chose an image at low iso. Which quite correctly is very similar. Then again everything looks similar at a low ISO…

  2. like many people browsing this site, i’m only looking for a99 and a77 successor rumors. hope the sales of a99 means the new one will come out in near future.

  3. Sorry but when I saw it was “Rakuten” formerly buy.com I had to dig a little deeper to believe it…. Then I noticed on scamadviser.com that they have a 10% rating… I am quite sure I wouldn’t be buying from them even if I was going to buy an A99 today… That’s too much money to risk on a deal that seems too good to be true… I would be leery of this deal.

  4. Rakuten is the biggest online store in Japan, something like Amazon to USA. Recently it has acquired Buy.com, I’ve purchased around 2k items from their Japan Online Store without any problem. And I must say their service is even better than Amazon.

  5. Nice price. I still can’t decide which way to turn. I narrowed my choice to:

    1. A7 + Sony 28-70 OSS + LE-AE4 + Sigma 35mm/1.4
    2. Nikon D800 + Sigma 35mm/1.4

I can get them in the same price.
    I’ve got a couple of A-mount lenses.
I plan to buy Blackmagic pocket for video. New metabones adapter is only for Nikon…ahhh

    1. well you know Nikon will still be around using the same mount years from now… you can’t be so sure of the Sony folks… If those were my choices at the moment I might consider dropping down to a D610 and then being able to pocket some money or get an additional lens… Unless of course you have some high end A-mount lenses…

      1. I used the Nikon 610 on a job last week. I don’t like what Nikon does with the NEFs on that thing. Comparing skin tones between the D800 and the D610 is night and day. Especially under difficult lighting it feels like the NEFs are over cooked out of the camera. If you do go nikon…go D800 it is worth the extra.

        1. Cooking or overcooking raw files is not done to make the colours look a certain way. Which brings us to the next question. .. do you know what cooked raw means?

Also, what steps did you take to ensure colour accuracy while shooting?

          1. What I am speaking about is to do with tonal graduations in the skin tones. and accurate renditions of skin tone. We noticed the colour gamut on the D610 just wasn’t as clean as the D800. There was some pronounced blotchiness in the skin tones in low light situations…But of course I am obviously an idiot that doesn’t know what I am talking about rather than experts who seem very good at shooting macbeth colour charts.
I work as a digital operator as a living. I think I know a thing or two about Raw files……………..

          2. The posterisation is not a result of raw files being cooked. Which raw converters did you this problem across?
Also “NEFs are overcooked out of the camera” doesn’t make any sense. If raw files are cooked, they are cooked… you can’t “uncook” them off-camera. This is the reason why I asked if you know what cooked raw means.
            Your words, not mine.

          3. The anomalies you’re describing may be caused by any number of factors, (exposure, lighting conditions, camera settings, raw processing etc.) simply jumping to a conclusion that it’s the camera’s fault without investigating all the factors related to this effect is where your argument falls down. You’re conclusion in not borne out by facts.
The color chart comparison is a test performed under strictly controlled conditions and can be accepted as a factual representation of color rendition from both cameras. Skin tones certainly fall within the gamut of colors reproduced on the chart. Both cameras exhibit very similar performance under the controlled test conditions. This indicates that other factors are in play relating to the anomalies you describe. I’m not questioning your technical skills related to your occupation, but disagree with your conclusion.

    1. Agreed. This level of price cutting on the A-mount flagship can only mean Sony has something pretty cool coming out soon, or, they are decommitting from A-mount and doubling down on E-mount.
