Two trusted sources told us the Sony A5100 will feature the exact same sensor of the Sony A6000. It means it will have that super fast autofocusing in a smaller and cheaper package. Sounds good to me!
I also have been told the camera Body and LCD screen will be the same of the Nex-5t (with touch screen).
No other E or A or RX camera will be announced on August 19. For that you have to wait a couple of days more 😉

Any new info or specs on what will be anoucned “a couple of days” later ?
So the 5000 series finally becomes a worthy successor to the 5s. No retarded crippling. Good to see. I wonder what the price difference for the EVF will be.
EVF will make the touchscreen “obsolete in some way”, so if this what you look for, buy A6000 right away. For sure if your goal is touchscreen and occasional EVF, then the choice is good, but probably quiet expensive. One must see fist if a socket for EVF is provided. This more expensive situation could fit me as well, since I shoot EVF and manual, and my “harem” needs fast AF and touchscreen.
Yes, in some way but not fully. And I usually use both depending on the situation.
Personally I’ll wait for the NEX with an integrated EVF and a touchscreen. I’m just tired of playing the gameboy game every time I want to change the AF point or MF loupe. Until that happens, I’ll stick with my 6 🙂
Well if set up correctly either is very fast on most modern E-Mounts.
Depends on what ‘fast’ means for you. It takes several seconds (about 4) to move the MF loupe from the left edge to the right edge. Of course I’ll rarely do such big jumps, but considering both horizontal and vertical movement, I’ll still end up with about 2 seconds just to get the loupe where I want it in a real case. With a touchscreen, it takes no time at all. For me, this isn’t quite ‘very fast’.
I don’t know what you mean by ‘setting up correctly’. Afaik there is no setting that allows you to change the speed or the size of the steps that you take when adjusting the loupe or AF position (maybe I missed it?).
That’s what it takes on your NEX-6, on the newer E-Mounts it is faster. Honestly can’t be bothered explaining it…
The A6000 exactly one generation from the 6. That seems fairly modern to me. But ok, so they’ve at least dealt with that in the newest generation. Good to know.
Don’t bother explaining it, it doesn’t help me anyways.
This is a good decision by Sony to have the same base sensor and af system as the A6000 in the evf less body.
So we can assume this will produce the same awesome video quality of the a6000? But cheaper?;)
So… the last rumour is in fact SR1? Camera on that picture doesn’t look like nex-5t… so it’s not a5100?
Very nice specs, hardly any direct controls? I would appreciate it if Sony’s engineers spent 1% of their time examining cameras that are easy to handle. The GX7 or – in the Sony camp – the Nex 6 would be interesting starting points.
You do know there is already an a6000…. right….?
Shhhh! Complainers like to think that the very cheapest Sony cameras are meant to be ‘pro’ and should compete with the very best of everything.
If this $300 dollar Sony can’t provide me with at the very least the same quality as a $20,000 Hassy or Phase One MF camera, then it’s utter garbage and way overpriced. Also, if the entire body isn’t covered in controls and buttons, to the point where I need to get a graduate degree in order to operate it, then it will never take decent quality pictures. If I’m going to spend $300-500 on a camera, it had better take such high quality images that my pictures of black cats in a coal mine and fungus roots will be desired by every art museum and periodical out there. Obviously, a $300-500 dollar camera is an investment which I should be able to hand down to my great great great grandchildren, at which point it will make them famous as well.
Sorry to disappoint you. Yes, I am aware of the A6000. It is a reduced version of the NEX 6 as far as direct controls are concerned. Again: impressive specs but lack of controls. NEX 6 (available at an interesting price point at the moment) and the GX7 are easier to use than the Ax000 series. Nothing wrong with Sony upping the ante in the mega pix / AF speed domain but I would not want to forgo a minimum of control. This is no ‘pro’ statement but rather concerns something that has been around for many years.
I had both, the A6000 destroyes the NEX6 in pretty much every way. Sorry to bring the bad news.
In what way has the Nex 6 more controls then the A6000. I just loked and found 13 buttons and dials on the Nex 6 and on the A6000 i found 14. am I overlooking something, as in my universe 14 (A6000) is more then 13 (Nex 6) can you please tell me where I’m wrong?
A6000 has more manual controls than the NEX-6.
…and now give me the a6100 with touchscreen…please
Just what the world needs. Another Sony ILCE camera ! Throw in a few more third party adapters and we consumers will completely forget about the lack of Emount APS-C lenses to support all these shiny new cameras. I know I know, the adapters open up so many other options and possibilties like slow to useless AF for $300+ or no AF and no electronics for $19. Small price to pay for too many tradeoffs. I’ll use some gigantic DSLR lenses and the new and improved Metabones for an additional $399 to fill in the gaps and I’ll just forget about it and learn Manual Focus again. Would someone at Sony please let the lens team design and produce new Emount lenses at least as fast as the Camera division cranks out new cameras?
At least as fast? Camera design, for the most part, is iterative for Sony – especially for aps-c mirrorless. They can release spec bumps annually for the consumer models. Lens designs generally last from 5 to 10+ years. Expecting lenses to be refreshed at least as fast as cameras would result in little to no improvements and far higher prices.
The OP didn’t say refreshed the OP said “design and produce new Emount lenses” as in lenses that don’t exist.
Yeah and? They are iterative ‘updates’, lenses are completely new products, I’m sure they could make updates to lenses every year if it was worthwhile. Like minor changes or incorporating the latest processor in a lens… if it actually made much difference.
Yeah and what? I have no idea why you are replying to me.
Because you are agreeing that lenses should come out as often as bodies, what people don’t seem to grasp is that a) lenses last a long time b) that in a new system are completely new products, not just updated products, brand new products take a lot longer to develop. Updating a body (rather than a completely ‘new’ camera) takes much less effort, by a completely different team of people. Any comment that talks about those two things in any comparative manner is just ignorance. One has absolutely zero to do with the other.
abortabort: Based upon you gear list on DPrreview = 37 items. You own exactly ONE Emount APS-C lens. Clearly you made the right choice to invest heavily in Canon and Signma lenses and uh Ricoh ( LoL–no really…LoL). Maybe your input is more appropriate in some other Canon or Ricoh (snicker again) forum.
Wow stalk much? I guess you must update your gear list daily huh? because I sure as hell don’t. Are you really going to ‘LOL’ over a Ricoh GR there champ? Ever used one? No? The fact that you ‘LOLd’ over it tells me you REALLY have ZERO idea what you are talking about. Oh and genius, it ain’t a ‘system’ camera. Now explain to me why I need to own many APS-C E-Mount lenses to join a discussion? Hmm? Good one turd. I currently don’t have any Canon gear apart from a couple left over lenses, I traded my 6D for an A7 and now A7S. I use the two FE primes as well as a bunch of A-Mounts on the LA-EA4 adapters I have (yes two, one for my A7 and one for A7S). You really have a problem with Sigma as well? Good on ya’ DH. Oh and I have an RX10. I own exactly zero non-Sony digital cameras. So yeah, I think I will comment on here but thanks very much. Turd.

No I am not agreeing “that lenses should come out as often as bodies”. That’s what you WANTED to read, not what I said.
To be fair the 18-200 must have had nearly as many refreshes as the nex 5…
5 to 10+ years to design and produce a lens in 2014? Is this fact or your informed opinion? If indeed fact, this certainly explains the disconnect and frustration from a consumer perspective. It would be helpful if you would provide a few online references to substantiate your comment.
No, a lens design has a lifetime on the market for 5-10 years.
Thanks for clarifying FormerlyE. That makes more sense to me.
I wrote that the designs last for 5-10 years not that it takes that long to design them. Evidence for this can be seen by how long sony or others stick with a design. Canon’s 24-70 L and 70-200 L were around 10 years old before the the mark II releases a couple of years ago. Many of Sony’s lens designs are pretty old, some dating back to the minolta era (STF 135mm).
Makes sense that a typical lens has a 5-10+ year life span. What doesn’t make sense goes back to my original comment about the lack of any significant development effort of any NEW APS-C Emount lenses to support the pace of all these new cameras or even the older APS-C cameras. Judging by the pace of new APS-C cameras coming out I don’t think Sony is abandoning the APS-C market hence the frustration for those of us investing in these cameras and the scant APS-C Emount lenses.
I don’t think they are abandoning aps-c, they are actively developing bodies and the oldest NEX lenses are only 4 years old. Plus, the FE lens releases benefit all aps-c bodies as well.
Personally, I believe crop sensor lenses are only necessary for wide angle focal lengths since this cannot be achieved on ff lenses due to the crop factor. For those dedicated to Sony aps-c bodies, the 35 FE is a great 50mm-ish prime and the 55mm is an excellent 85mm-ish prime.
Sony had high hopes for the a5000. When it was announced this year a CES they keynoted it. Post-CES they immediately slashed the price indicating they didn’t get the reception they’d hoped for. The changes look good (a lesson for the a3500?). It’ll be interesting to see if they try to return its price to the original a5000’s to recover margins. Might explain the record refresh.
So now looking keep they’re paying attention, which is unusual for Sony… Next thing you know they’ll be releasing lenses!
Now, now, don’t go too far old chap.
Oh look, They do! 5 FE lenses a year! They listened to you. You are my hero!
I want an APS-C camera with XAVC and full sensor readout. Rx100 has it, a7s has it, let’s get it on apsc! A6100 maybe?
i have no idea what you’r talkin’ about, but i like APS-C 🙂
XAVC is a newer, better video format. Full sensor readout during video means that all pixels are used during video recording, not just every other line of pixels on the sensor. The RX100M3 and the A7S have both of those things, so I’m hoping we get an APS-C camera with them soon! I do a lot of video. 😀
Now all we need is an a7 with the a6000 af and a touchscreen (with an evf please)…
Oooo…touchscreen focus is back finally. It’s sad that the “higher-end” a6000 has so many focus points on the sensor but such a convoluted and clunky way to manually select a focus point on the fly. Not very smooth when doing video work.
Santa doesn’t exist you know that right?
Shhh, there are children here.
What???….Dammit That was the only thing on my list. I’ll pass it on to the Easter Bunny then.
Build them Sony. Yes. Build those low-end and mid-consumer models. Build them with lots of features so that average buyer will buy them, tons of them. Sell them with kit lenses. Charve huge money for accessories. THEN, USE THE MONEY TO GIVE US LENSES.
Or everyone who uses your products to give you a good name will move away, probably to Fuji.
IMO, the ability to work with legacy glass is a huge part of what makes the E mount cameras fun. People complain a lot here about lack of lenses, but if you’re comfortable with manual focus, this really isn’t as much of a limitation as people make it out to be.
I agree with you. In fact, I don’t have any lens made by Sony at the moment. I just have an A7. I used to have Nex 7, 5n and 5 before finally upgrading to this one.
Legacy glass will work. Some of them work perfectly. My FD 50/1.4 ends up giving better results than my friend’s 6D with the already legendary Sigma 50/1.4 ART because with a 6D you’ll struggle to find correct focus even in bright daylight. I’m just a few miliseconds slower with a manual focus lens but my photos usually end up sharper.
I also use the Sigma 30 on A7 which is almost a FF lens, quite a sharp one too. My Zeiss 35/2.4 Flektogon also finds some use but it’s too long and heavy to be comfortable as an everyday lens.
Now Sony offers two lenses in these focal lengths, both of them so close to perfection in almost every way imaginable. Good.
Aaaaaand that’s about it.
I’m in serious need of a 85/1.8 or similar lens. 100/2 would also work. My first choice will probably be going FD again but FDn versions of those lenses are a bit harded to find where I live. It’ll be some time before Sony gives me a decent offering.
I’d also very much like to have a 70-200ish zoom lens. It doesn’t have to be a f/2.8 lens, even though I’d like one. I can buy an old Nikon 80-200/2.8 quite cheaply but it’ll be really heavy to carry around. I’d also like to have a lighter version, something easier to work with. Preferrably with IS and AF. Sony has a 70-200/4 which costs what? $1500? And guess what, it’s not really good. I can’t see myself paying that much for that lens, sorry.
How about a carry-around, 20mm lens? Nothing. Not even a rumor. There is no elegant legacy glass solution for this focal length neither. Sure you can buy that Voigtlander and fix it in post but… Do you really want to?
Ok, a wide angle zoom lens will do too! There is a 16-35/4 on the way, good. Now we’re getting somewhere. What if it is only as good as that 70-200 though? They’ll have the same price tag, if I remember what I’ve read correctly. Then I won’t be buying that neither.
Now lets see what Fuji would offer me.
Portrait lens: 56/1.2. Bloody gorgeous and reasonably sized.
Tele-Zoom: That 55-200 is actually pretty good. I can use it everyday and it’s also good for product shots. Actually it’s even better than a f/2.8 on FF because I want to work with a deep DOF anyway.
Carry around wide angle: 14/2.8 is better than anything Nikon, Canon or Sony offers in 20-21mm area.
Wide angle zoom: Fuji has a 10-24/4 which is quite good and much cheaper than what Sony offers. Also it’s a bit wider.
In short, even though I’m more than fine with manual focusing (I actually prefer it most of the time), Fuji already offers more than what I can adapt to my Sony A7.
And they have a 16/1.4 coming…
It would be commercial suicide to introduce a lower priced camera with a touchscreen that gives the same performance as the A6000.
Sorry, this is a SR1.
Having the same performance doesn’t mean having the same features.
Erm why? The NEX-5T has similar performance to NEX-6… which lived fine side by side…
Commercial suicide? A little dramatic, dont you think?
No built in EVF, flash and fewer external controls including no control dials. The A6000 is still a bargain regardless of the price of the A5100. The EVF is well worth the added cost to many. The A6000 is a bargain when you look at the competition.
Sony does this all the time.
Why are you surprised?
Not really. There is a large segment of the population which may not have the money to shell out for an A6000 but could afford something like the 5100. Remove some of the features from the A6000 and provide that segment a camera which takes great photos at a lower price point and they’ve secured a larger share of consumers at very little cost to the company. I think it’s safe to say that an A5100 does not cost much at all to develop, will likely sell well if it’s a true upgrade path to the NEX 5 series, and will help to pay for sunk R&D costs from the A6000, especially when factoring in the fact that much of the tech is reused.
I guess it remains to be seen if it will have a spot for EVF attachment. Sony is still selling the EV1S viewfinder for the 5N/R/T. If this camera has A6000 AF, Touch screen, built in flash, and port for my EV1S, I think it would be the best combination so far of the NEX3/5/A5000 series cameras. I think the most annoying thing about the 5 series is the stupid little flash. I didn’t think I’d hate it so much
IF that item pictured is the a5100 itself then it has the same on center rounded top pop up flash as the a5000, no accessory port. I suspect Sony did not sell enough accessories and they decided to stop supporting the custom, only found on a few cameras, hot shoe/accessory mount.
“EV1S viewfinder for the 5N/R/T”
Did not T had new hot shoe?
Nope. Same as other NEX models.
So why not just get an A6000?
No touch screen (many see this as useful) and it is bigger.
Why not? 5N 5R and 5T having had touch screen and it’s still small.
I think touch screen very useful for video and macro shooting.
Even I wish my NEX-6 will had touch screen in my dream and it will make sony camera’s app more easy to control.
That’s what i was getting at. A6000 does not have a touch screen and it is bigger. That is why many would prefer the A6000 sensor/AF in smaller form factor with a touch screen. The tracking AF of the A6000 with being able to quickly select your focus point by touch would be the fastest way to do this instead of moving a little box around.
$$$ this camera will be cheaper! and the touchscreen and smaller, oh people will love it!
wow sony is making the other camera competitors eat dusts LOLOLOL! A compact camera with the same AF speed as a6000 w/o the EVF hump on the back? Now that’s something I want to really buy.
Sony can we please have it in RED color? I want this camera to be the attention grabber lol. Also can you please make it a “selfie friendly” camera? What I mean by that is to have the LCD on the back tilt 180 degrees upwards.
Admin, so it won’t have an XAVC-S codec because it is using the same sensor as the a6000 right? or is it possible to have XAVC-S even if it is using the same sensor? I really need to know so please ask your contacts. TY!
Well considering that video codec has nothing to do with the sensor you have your answer… Also sounds like it would make zero difference to you other than ticking a box.
Dude, the XAVC-S codec on RX100III is a day and night comparison to a6000’s AVCHD codec w/ APS-C sensor. The XAVC-S is crispier and has more details than AVCHD. The XAVC-S can also do 120fps @720p.
I will wait for the official release and see if I’m getting the a5100 or the RX100III. The video codec will be the main deciding factor.
are you sure the difference is due to codecs, not sensors (full readout vs. line-skipping)?
It could have XAVC-S, but as Sony has been slow to roll this out even to higher end models like the A77ii and A6000 I would be surprised to see it in the A5000. Also, while a better codec is always better to some extent, without the benefit of a full-sensor readout you’ll just end up with sharper, cleaner moire and jaggies!
YAWN!
Yup… more shoe sizes from Sony
Remember the great days when Sony just had the A100 and the A900.
No, in those days they had the A700 too, and the A200 and the A300 and the A350. Wow nothing has changed, only the numbers!
HEH True, but at least most of those cameras were considered milestones for Sony.
Going from a CCD in the A100 to the CMOS in the A200 was a big step.
The A700 was probably one of their best APS-C cameras, and the A900 was their only FF at the time.
I don’t mind if they have 5 or 6 cameras floating around at a time, but this incremental drip feeding is getting a bit too ridiculous. Just wait a year and come out with something awesome.
a200 has CCD
Corrected.
“I also have been told the camera Body and LCD screen will be the same of the Nex-5t (with touch screen).”
Back to the future.
Why mess with something that isn’t broken? The NEX 5 series are very good cameras and have sold well. Sony doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel every time they make a new camera, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with iterative updates. Just my 2c.
“Every time”? 5t was exactly the same as 5r, which in the areas discussed was the same as 5N.
While that’s not exactly accurate, as the 5T is quite different from the 5N and has new features that the 5R does not, the NEX 5 series cameras are all iterative upgrades from each other so a certain amount of similarity should be expected. They were never meant to be revolutionary upgrades so much as iterative upgrades in order to put new tech into a series of camera that has sold very well.
“as the 5T is quite different from the 5N”
I did not claim it is not. Read carefully. Compared to 5r though, 5T has almost nothing new, and certainly not in the areas discussed (“Body and LCD screen”).
New camera every day! Yay!
No lens? That’s fine, I’ll shoot thru my glasses.
Tell me what lenses you currently own out of the 40 available native e mounts
I have 55 f/1.8 Z and 35/2.8 Z, use them on the A7r and A6000. I don’t buy the crop-factor lenses. Also not much interested in a crappy glass, doesn’t matter if it’s 40 or 4000 choices.
FYI Sony has only 23 E-mount lenses, you should do your homework sometimes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sony_E-mount_lenses
I didnt say Sony only lenses did I, maybe you should read.
You should have read the topic first before farting your useless comments into it. We are discussing _SONY_ releasing a new camera, not a random manufacturer, while everybody’s waiting for the 16-35 f/4 FF. So let me do a math for you: out of 23 E-mount Sony lenses 5 are full frame, 2 of them are great, 1 is ok+ (70-200), 2 are crap (28-75 and 28-70).
1) This is not a full frame camera; 2) If someone else makes an E-mount lens you can use it on a Sony E-mount camera, it doesn’t have to be a Sony brand lens; 3) one of the advantages of the E-mount design is that the short flange distance gives them the best range of adapted lenses of any system.
Awesome, the NEX 5N/R/T Lives! This is my favorite NEX, I might have to pick this up.
it has different body shape and has no NEX accessory shoe.
Do we have corroboration on this point or is this just conjecture? If it’s similar to the 5 series (in terms of NEX accessory shoe/controls), it’d be a great upgrade path for NEX 5 users, which is potentially quite a few customers.
Yeah the post says `Same body as NEX-5t’, but pic has a pop-up flash but no hotshoe- someone’s not right lol.
“Same body as NEX-5T” means it has same body material or same body design?
I’ve been using sony cameras and I’m so sad to see this video. These Japanese people never learned from Hiroshima. It is time for me to boycott Sony Corporation for profiting from the death of human beings?
http://youtu.be/Xeqxgu5wu-Q
I dont know, you’re the psychopath spewing political garbage in a long stretch connection, you tell me.
It’s a global economy. Anyone can use any component from anything. That does NOT equal accountability.
Get lost, psychotroll.
The processor was custom made by Sony. Therefore is it developed and tested for its efficiency with the bomb’s camera head.
War business is generating a lot of money and I never thought Sony would profit from this type of business. I’m so sad 🙁
I think there may be some facts missing here. Have any sources? It certainly is possible but I wouldn’t draw any conclusions based on what you’ve stated.
that s a troll video…If it’s a japanese camera then it s able to make the difference between good and evil people. Therefore the rocket only hit the right persons 😉 And if it hit women and children it s maybe because they were trained to be terrorists HAHAHAHA!!! PS: It was an evil joke but if some ppl can talk about silly politics here i have also the right to do the opposite 😉
You are more dangerous than the camera…U are spreading evil thoughts to pervert ppl and make them hate each other…. May God, Allah forgive you!!!! 😉
we are on photography site… and u come to spread ur evil political thoughts… Vade Retro SDM !!!
Really? You’re an idiot.
That’s like saying Boeing is responsible for 9/11
That’s like saying US Steel is repsonsible for Chicago gun deaths.
You must be really stupid if you think people are going to agree with you.
Go ahead, boycott. I’m sure you’re not smart enough to figure out how to use a camera anyway.
Almost every bigger optics company is involved in making tools for the military. Some will even proudly present their achievements to you. http://www.zeiss.com/corporate/en_us/history/technical-milestones/defence-technology.html
Just stop using cameras for the sake of your consciousness. Please. Oh, and while we’re at it, I have another bad news for you. The Internet you’re using right now also has been created by the US military. Seriously, just right now you’re using tools invented by murderers! So please, perish from not only from the world of photography, but from the Internet too. Hurry up before it’s too late.
But there is a huge difference between military defense and war crime. Sony is supporting an obvious crime. It is a different story if their technology is being used within the rules of war. Killing 6 million plus local people who have been living in the land for thousand of years just to fulfill your religious idealogy shouldn’t be tolerated at all.
HAHAHA. This must be the best thing I ever read in ages! “Killing people is a bad thing but technology being used within the RULES OF WAR is totally fine”. HAHAHAHA, really.
I first thought you were just a regular troll but my opinion has changed. You are a genius. Don’t waste your talents on such a rusty Internet forum. Get out and talk to the people. There will be Greatness. I guarantee.
Wow, almost as genius as the conclusion in the video itself:
guided missile has camera => Israel is targeting women and children
Quick, someone give that reporter a Pulitzer!
So let’s look at your comment: You are sad; understandable. These Japanese people never learned from Hiroshima; kind of rude to our fellow Japanese people and suggesting that those Japanese people are all working in weapon factories while knowing the weapons they produce will hit innocent people. If you want to boycott Sony, go ahead. It won’t make a difference. If Sony doesn’t make them, someone else does. If someone else doesn’t, they would use other propably even more violent weapons to get to targets. Then the victims can blame you because you boycott a company which makes less violent weaponry. This technology is created for a reason: to hit a target. Be happy it is there, otherwise we would still be in WW2 shooting primitive rockets aimed by sight like some other fellas next to Israel are doing.
This is great news. I’m glad to be using a camera made by a company who produces chips to help Israel kill terrorists in Gaza. The fact is, Hamas says themselves that they love death more than the Israelis love life. That is why they are so eager to hide rockets among civilians, to ensure the most deaths of innocents possible. Because they think, and are right so far, that people in the West are stupid enough to blame Israel. Funny, 100,000 dead Arabs killed by other Arabs in Syria. No one bats an eye really. Unbelievable slaughter by Arabs of other Arabs in Iraq (ISIS), hey thats pretty sad. Israel blows up some Gazan terrorists and everyone freaks the fuck out. Makes you wonder.
Would be nice if Sony launch a A7000 with a weather resistant body, mic input, earphone jack and XAVC S video recording, some kind of ASPC a7s 😉
No EVF? We really need a body with A6000 performance and EVF, but with the simpler controls of the A5000.
Yes, we need a camera for every possible combination of features. Something for everyone.
Well, I want the opposite. A6000 performance no EVF, 5T size and even more controls than the A6000 🙂
That sounds really weird. In what way are the controls of the A6000 not simple? I would prefer Sony to fill the hole in their line-up right now: the NEX-5T successor. Tilting touch screen without EVF with fast AF, just like Admin is saying in his post.
Finally, it’s time to upgrade from my trusty NEX-5N. Glad, if it’s true A6000 in a smaller package 🙂
If it will have XAVC and full sensor readout that would be mine perfect camera. I’d definitely buy it.
it’s an A6000 without EVF. let’s just hope it’s not like the retarded a5000 that doesn’t have a simple thing like an hotshoe.
Most people will never use a hotshoe, so it isn’t retarded to keep costs down by not including it on a A5xxx series.
Most people will never use a camera. so it’s retarded to produce cameras.
disagree, most people buying entry level cameras for casual use have no interest in hot shoes or EVFs. Putting a flash there was tthe best decision for it’s price point.
it’s not an entry level moron. a3000 is entry level. samsung nx and fuji counterparts have hotshoes in all their line. it’s not rocket science moron.
it is entry level, moron.
it’s not you that defines what entry level is. it’s the manufacturer. it’s sony. moron.
If you want hot shoe then buy a6000. This camera will be for a different market in terms of budget and features.
Yea, i agree. It’s for social addicts who like selfie in good quality image
Okay, since I’m finishing the last beer of tonight, let me post my completely reasonable demands for Sony’s A5100: Firstly, and of utmost importance, it must be available in red, pink, white, gold and black. Secondly, it has to do that selfie thing. Thirdly, does it Facebook? And it should do some other stuff like XYZAVCHD 3.0 codec video because it is super sharp! Oh, and while were at it, include a pop-up EVF, pop-up flash, pop-up user manual, and pop-up blocker. Instabuy!!!!
I’d take a pop-up blocker over any other feature any day now 🙂
Moving on to the hard stuff e.g. Vodka. How about a few lenses to go with that RED dream camera. Opps! Lenses? Wait. Did we forget to develop lenses to go with all our new cameras? Nee–nobody wants lenses–any simpleton knows interchangeable lenses are for stuffy old DSLRs. 🙂
you forgot to add models to your list xD
hey seekly you forgot some things:
superfast selfie-asshairlowlight dedector

like your blog and go on! make more fire under the asse of the big ones…
I think this is wonderful news. I had the A6000 for a week but really didn’t like the size coming from a NEX-5T. My only gripe with the NEX-5T was that damn flash, HATED it. I have the RX100 III and although it’s great I do miss my prime lenses a lot.
“Same body as NEX-5T” means it has same body material of magnesium alloy or same body design?
I have no idea what you just said, and I’ve read it twice. Wow.
