Sigma Cine Lenses and Samyang 50mm f/1.2 coming.

Samyang just “re-confirmed” the 50mm f/1.2 development rumor they started over a year ago.

Let me catch up with two small Third Party Lens maker rumors:

1) Sigma Rumors says it’s likely Sigma will make Cine Lenses soon.

2) And Samyang itself confirmed they will deifnitely launch a new 50mm f/1.2 lens (via Photorumors).

I like Rokinon/Samyang lenses a lot and I recommend you the following two lenses for Alpha mount:
1) The 35mm f/1.4: In US you can find it as Rokinon at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here), BHphoto (Click here) and on [shoplink 7453 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. In Europe the name is Samyang and you can find it on [shoplink 7380 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink] and with the name Wallimex again on [shoplink 7831 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].
2) The 85mm f/1.4: You can get for $274 on Amazon (Click here), branded with the name Rokinon on [shoplink 7456 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink] and branded with the name Samyang on [shoplink 7454 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

  1. The Otus has proved there’s a market for mf nifty fifties… Good to see they’ve gone for a sane aperture and haven’t gone down the “superfast f0.95 and sharp from as wide as f2.8” route.

  2. it will be a DSLR compatible lens obviously so it will be bigger than necessary on the A7. Let’s see if it will be smaller with adapter or extension than the faster Mitakon, but I don’t think so.

  3. Would be nice if they would make some hyper-fast wide lenses instead of continuing to flood the 50mm market which already has enough f1.2 lenses.

  4. I wish they would make a 135mm or a 200mm. I think there is more than enough 50mm lenses in the world.

  5. The Samyang lineup is close to complete! I think a 135mm and 200mm prime is all that’s needed. Then it would be great if they made some cinema zooms with Samyang optics & prices!

  6. It takes a lot more than simply rehousing your stills lens into a pretty metal case to call it a true cine lens (Tokina). A few of the obvious things… 0.8 pitch ring(s), optics coatings for color consistency and taming flares / reflections, non-rotating and extending front, tele-centric design, distance scale on sides of lenses for AC pulling focus, long throw focus action, constant aperture for zoom lenses, aperture marked in T stops, lenses within a series should be same dimensions so you don’t have to adjust matte box and rig setup when swinging lenses. Obviously auto focus and focus by wire designs need not apply.

Err, the actual source for the Sigma cine rumour says when the CEO was asked about it he replied ‘no comment’. Please lets not get so exited on such vague evidence!
