RX10 video review by TheVerge
The Sony RX10 keeps earning positive feedback by reviewers. This time it’s TheVerge that gave their thumbs up to the camera:
Point-and-shoots are dying because all they offer is better quality — and it seems no one cares about better quality when they’re just cropping things to a square and putting them on Instagram. But superzooms are a growing market because they offer what neither phones nor compact cameras posses: versatility. The RX10 works whether you’re on the field or in the nosebleeds, whether you’re on a sunny beach or a dark club. It’s a camera for everyone, for every situation. It’s easily the best superzoom I’ve ever used, and a camera that will satisfy just about anyone who buys it.

I have to agree. I got an RX10 as a “general purpose” camera to throw around and keep in my truck everyday.
Boy was I wrong. After owning it a week, I discovered that is way WAY more powerful that I ever expected.
Its entirely a wolf in sheeps clothing! Its not impressive to see in a store shelf. Only after going through all its internal options, shooting video and taking photos do you begin to see its genious.
Way to go Sony on this one!
The rx10 is good for p&s upgraders and smart phone users as another piece of intermediate gear to waste money on before going for an interchangeable lens camera.
It by no means is a satisfactory second/small camera for people who are used to a ILC with decent lenses (for still photography). A part of that disappointment comes as a result of the rx10’s bulk for almost nothing. The AF is super slow and barely locks even on stationary things. The macro quality is below average for a supposed premium lens because of CA. The extending barrel isn’t particularly sturdy. The camera is very slow to start up too with all the automatically extending and flashy bits. If you think you can get a bit if subject isolation with this then you can do that with any mega zoom if you zoom in (note the date):

Of course, if you haven’t used a real camera you won’t even know these are issues… this is why I made my opening claim.
I found the video to be absolutely superb. I’m a shooter, not a videographer .. or any need for video …. but I find myself shooting more video with this little bugger than anything else. nods to perfection. Its lens is THE selling point for me, though. Ridiculous range equiv.
My video docs demand super fast manual zoom.

Shot on a77 with old Tamron 35-105/2.8 SP… All manual focus and zoom. How to do this with an RX10?
Will hope the rx20 to have speedy manual zoom. Then I’m all in.
Yes sure the rx10 would have better VQ than a77. But that’s not the most important thing for my productions. Give me tactile manual control please.
And all hand-held by someone after a booze? 😉
RX wide angle zoom?? 1 inch sensor 2.8, nice for travelling n street, day n night… juz a dream..
It was a good try out from Sony with something new, if this camera will have a successor it will need to be much more competent with better AF , battery life, startup time, and so on, the actual version is not a hit because the price is to high, which make people see / search / feel more inperfections of this camera, so make it perfect or lower the price of the RX20, but maybe there will never be a successor and this Sony try out stop here !!!
I would prefer if they’d make a successor for it named RX200 or something like that and release proper RX10 with APS-C sensor. Cause that’s what Sony is missing most in it’s line up right now: APS-C compact.
Overly simplistic review of advanced camera.
hm.. any Canon PowerShot IS BEttER then this shit…
looks too much like a dslr
I really want this camera, only because I go to concerts and festivals where they don’t allow interchangeable lens cameras. It’s a beast but I would happily lug in my D600 if they let me.
good for SONY to make it but it is a body = 300,-$ lense = 250,-$ cam and ther it should
be… a cahther for idiots and a halve way from dying camcorders, but THAT CODEC?
That worse codec kills the conzept and so what? a least a 250,-$ nex 3n is it..and get a
lense… it is the SONY-GAME i dont $$$$ bill not 2014 ( it is 12% of a F5!!!)
