  1. About time for the next Big Announcement From Sony. Here it is, in advance: “Everyone wants Full Frame. And 4K video. Questions? Oh, yes um we like APS-C. Sorry everyone we’re out of time…”

  2. Ridiculous. Everyone should own this camera. Its such a fantastic camera regardless of price, but for $448 its one of the best values in photographer out there

    1. I got it as a travel camera. It soon became my only camera, and I sold my Nikon DX gear. I simply cannot believe that Sony would not follow up on this successful and well-reviewed product. No, not with 4K video, but with meaningful improvements like a better EVF, IBIS (if possible), and improvements in the sensor. Have they actually decided that they can’t risk another APS-C success, while trying to herd their entire customer base to FF?

      1. I’d love some fast and affordable prime lenses, be it from Sony or 3rd-party manufacturers like Sigma/Tamron. Sigmas Art lenses are optically really great, but I wish they were a little faster or had OIS…

    2. Have to disagree with you there. A77II and by logical extension- A77 now is a steal. Worth every penny.

Oh, you mean ultra small. OMD10.

      1. I looked extensively at the a 6000 when I bought my Em10. They are both excellent. The sensor on the Sony is better of course. I also happen to like the grip better. On the other hand, Controls on the Olympus are more responsive and there are separate wheels for aperture and speed. As in, real wheels. Lens selection is better too.
My point is, it’s not that simple. And that’s without even looking at Fuji

  3. I’m not sure if you can draw an awful lot of conclusions about the success of a product from Amazon bestseller lists. According to that list Fuji film is the most bought item. Really?

    1. uhm… that is film supply for a popular camera… yea of course many people will bough that…… i’ll call that a success

  4. Crap, here on amazon.fr the A6000 body only costs $598 🙁
I really wished we had the same kind of price here in Europe :-

  5. If Sony lowered their APS-C E-mount lens prices by about 100USD permanently, they would sell a sh!t ton of products to the masses. Next APS-C E-mount cameras should be weathersealed and be launched along with new weathersealed lenses.

      1. Not sure how a $3000 body could be #1. I know it is good, but the economics are incomprehensible to all but very, very few.

        1. Because its a brand new launch & is revolutionary enough to be creating ripples across the photographic community. I most likely won’t stay at that place for very long due to the pricing.

        2. Only #1 for mirrorless – a Canon Rebel will be likely sold more often.
I think the reason was because you could only preorder for a couple of weeks – and now all this people got their bodies at the same time.

  6. Still waiting for this a6xxx or a7xxx. And better lenses. 16-50 sucks. 18-200mm isn’t a great choice. Regret to sell my 55-210. Waiting, waiting for new travel gear.

  7. Its also the 2nd highest in the ILC List (DSLRs & Mirrorless combined). This really is uncharted territory for sony.

Sony really should take their time to come up with a replacement. They have a winning formula here. It needs to be better than the A6000 in many ways without being worse in any way (overheating, noise etc). And it needs to be priced competitively. Also, if only they could improve their kit lens lineup to shut all the negative publicity. I think its fine though it could be better.

  8. The A6000 has been at or near the top of the Amazon (and likely B&H and other lists – we just don’t have the stats for those) since its introduction. With this many cameras being sold, there has got to be a business case for the production of at least 2 or 3 nice lenses that are APS-C specific. My hopes (this is a powerless thing, since as we know Sony is investing all their lens R&D into FF) are as follows:
    – high quality 16mm f/2 or f/1.8 prime. I’ve had the 16mm (awful) and I own the 19mm Sigma (pretty good), but something wider and faster than the Sigma would be really nice. And we could use it for astro. Sony should notice that all of us shooting astrophotography on the A6000 are doing it on Rokinon 12mm…. I think this is a no brainer.
    – nicely priced ($500-700) 24mm f/1.4 Sony G. It can be bigger than the Zeiss 24, but needs to be cheaper
    – F3.5 to F5.6 70-300mm (actual focal length, not FF equivalent) telezoom. Although if the new body can do phase detect AF like the A7Rii with the LAEA3 adapter, then I’ll just get a used Minolta G telephoto and the adapter and call it a day.

I have never owned the kit lens (meh), but own the Zeiss 16-70. Just price drop it to $650 and make it the new kit lens for the new camera. If they want to make it 2.8-4, great, but keep the price down to the point where you can get the 16-70 (current or improved form) and the new body for $300 less than the street price of the Fuji X-T1. Current owners like myself will be pissed, but our money is already sunk and we’re just gonna buy the body, anyway.

    1. I agree with the Astro point. It’s basically an emerging technology for moderate-income people and a lot of people love it. I wonder if Sony could buy Rokinon from Samyang and add autofocus or is that just too wishful?

I don’t think they’ll go for 24 f/1.4 anytime soon bc they recently released the affordable FF 28 f/2.0, and yeah, I would love to see a 70-300.

    2. Absolutely true. With all the sales from the A6000 back to the NEX series, Sony should be aware of a huge APS-C market. And there’re actually some benefits from the A6000 over the A7 series (weight, size, AF). IMO Sony should focus on small, good lenses for their APS-C line and go for absolute IQ on their FE line.

That being said, I also like to see a high quality 16/18 mm prime and better quality tele-zooms. And I’d like to see an updated version of the 16-80/4 Zeiss. As much I adore the focal length, build and size, the IQ is subpar. It could be faster too.

But Sony, Nikon and Canon have never been great in supporting their APS-C customers with fitting lenses. We always see the 35mm standard lengths 16, 24, 35, 50 and 85 mm, even for pure APS-C lenses, often paired with FF apertures which are slow for cropped sensors (like f/4 or even f/2.8). Take a look a Four-Thirds: You find something like 42.5mm f/1.2 which perfectly matches a 85/2.4. Or a 17mm (=34 mm) or 25mm (=50 mm) … all as fast as possible. Even better with the f/0.95 from Voigtländer or Mitakon which effectively are f/1.9.

However, it’s not that bad. We have a excellent 35/2.7 (Zeiss 24/1.8), a very nice 50/2.7 (35/1.8) and an excellent 85/2.7 (55/1.8). 24mm and 28mm are missing (the Sigma 19mm is IMO not good and the 16mm Sony is quite bad). But we also got a interesting and small 42/3 with the Sony 28/2. And we could use the Zeiss Batis 85/1.8 for a 125/2.7 tele if it wasn’t so big (not even talking about the 90/2.8 which would make a nicely 135mm but with f/4.2).

  9. Yep, I knew the price drop was coming since the 6100 rumors started the summer. I’ve just got mine today. As I’ve previously posted, I see it as a “bridge” camera to getting into the FF alpha system. My first FF lens will probably be the 28 to make a nice wide-standard 35mm…was looking on ebay but they don’t sell at much discount and might just buy new. When I’m ready to commit to spending $3000 on a body, I’ll get the A7R II or A7S II. Then the cheap $450 body can be a backup one or one for less important “assignments.”
