New Sony A7rII “bigger” size image samples posted!

Bildschirmfoto 2015-06-12 um 09.17.27

Fengniao posted these “bigger” size pictures shot on the A7rII. Still not full size but at least you have some more “pixels” to see on these! Click on the images to open the very big files!

UPDATE: The Fengniao server seems to have hard times loading the images because of the massive visits from SAR. I uploaded the images on WeTransfer (Click here).

    1. Hard to see past the JPG artefacts in trying to assess pixel grain/quality with these.
That said, since there isn’t a RAW developer out there that can convert them I guess we’re going to have to wait a bit to know for sure. – image detail look nothing short of amazing on my monitor however.

  1. Low DR?

Every shot i’ve seen with the A7r II where the sky is visible seem to have blown skies or a total overcast.

    1. I don’t think so, at least in the first photo. I see the sky almost white, but with that “almost” I mean I don’t see it burned.

      1. Yeah, it looks like it might be overcast. Might — still haven’t seen any landscape images for some reason.

        1. I hope those too will come soon. This new A7Rm2 ticks so many boxes in my wishlist, but it’s bit more than I’m willing to spend, and it inherits the same ergonomic issues as the A7m2 that were such a turn-off live… Nonetheless, I hope it gets the industry moving in the right direction, maybe an A7m3 may just be up my alley.

        2. Downloaded the sample JPG image and a simple (and gross…) “curves” adjust on PS revealed a lot of information in that sky. I wouldn’t care about that by now.

          Saludos!

        1. That 16-35 seems to struggle with such massive resolution. I can see some fuzziness when leaving the centre of image. At least I don’t need to look at the corners but at middle point between center and edges.

A good fixed focal lens should be OK though.

          Saludos.

          1. The subject chose was not perfect (for a center to border sharpness example), the focus plain was in the back and the borders/corners were in the front.

          2. Yeah, I know about that. But while nearest roof looks OK to me, some places which seem to be not too far from the back look not so good. Mainly on the right side.
But I understand isn’t the best lens nor scenario (din’t want to make a pun here 😀 ) to show real power of 42 MP resolution. The photo of the girl laying on ground should be a better way of evaluation.
But being realistic, I don’t expect nothing new regarding sharpness: any modern camera can exhibit terrific sharpness and detail, it’s only that images are getting bigger 🙂

            Saludos.

          3. A DP Merrill could take this shot with exceptional detail and sharp center to corner. As much resolution that is available is only useful if the lens can resolve it.

    1. On the live blog on Imaging-Resource and also on Thom Hogan’s, they said the RAW writing scheme hasn’t changed.

      1. Since Sony revised RAW imaging system version, I’m going to say it’s most likely tweaked. To which I’d add, I couldn’t care less if it’s compressed, so long as it doesn’t affect the quality of the RAW data in the process.

        1. It effects the quality, and that has been well documented. Sadly, Sony continues to ignore this. However, Sony fanboys, who are in denial or just don’t understand the issue, will argue that it is not a problem.

It may not bother someone, or they may not see the artifacts or poor tonal transitions, but I am sure they would be happy if Sony would provide 14-bit (or 16-bit) uncompressed RAW files, as the colour depth and image quality would be better.

If others don’t care, that is fine. I am expressing my opinion because I want Sony to address this. I won’t buy one until they do.

“Same lossy compression scheme, but see notes elsewhere here. I
underscored the seriousness of the issue with Sony, and they clearly
understand the magnitude of the issue. They didn’t promise any ETA, but I
do think we’ll see firmware updates at some point that will address
        this.

The person I was talking with was Mr. Kimio Maki, the
gentleman who’s led Sony’s entire mirrorless development strategy, since
the original NEX-5. I think he’s gotten the message, and is in a
position to do something about it :-)”

I see Thom doesn’t say in a explicit way that nothing has changed, so perhaps he isn’t meaning so: “but I still believe that giving us 14-bit uncompressed raw would be more useful in achieving optimal image quality in the A7 ;~) (Sony uses only 11-bit lossy compressed raw files to date.)”

  2. Still downloading, but hoping these are full size.
Next up, Imaging Resource Studio Sample RAW in hopes of making me throw my money at Sony for this :p

  3. Until I see full sized samples or Raw in the title then i’m not coming back. I’m not being a pawn in Sony’s stupid childish marketing 101 games.

  4. LOOK how many people describe these pictures as amazing while the biggest of them has “only” 8MP; perhaps it’s enough (-;

  5. Is anyone awake at Sony? Why is there only one full sized sample out there that suffers from a truck load of wide angle distortion?

  6. That’s a really great camera for people who need the resolution (or the 4K video!).

I’m looking forward to see how the AF compares to the A7ii. Last week I was surprised how good the focus tracking was on the A7ii in good light.

Now, I want to see the following from Sony:
    – Minimalist full frame A5 camera. Just shove it in an A6000 body please, no IBIS, nothing fancy.
    – Sony/Zeiss collaborated digital Ikon with absolutely stunning sensor performance for medium resolution stills (16-18-24 mpix range), great EVF, and excellent body design. Basically the camera the Nikon Df should have been, with no retro crap please.
    – Native 50/1.2 lens in the same spirit as the 35/1.4
    – Native 135mm lens

    1. I hope they never release a no ibis camera. I want to know that IBIS is standard for every camera from now on.

      1. I agree. It’s such a fantastic and essential feature. IBIS has changed the way I take photos for the better. I would never consider a non-IBIS camera now that I’m used to A7II.

        1. Now you know why so many A-mount shooters were so reluctant to switch to E-mount. We’ve been spoiled with a good thing.

    2. IBIS is the only feature I would upgrade my A6000 for. The reason is I have lots of Nikon legacy lenses that would be more useful with IBIS, particularly in low light. So please don’t wish for a non-IBIS camera. If you don’t need it, turn it off, but it needs to be there for tons of people like me that need it.

  7. Why did they replicate the Canon ad with the chic and the flowers. Why Sony why!!?!?!!? Her face looks a bit narley up close. You know, in that hot sorta way, but still.
