Sorry Andrea if my 1st comment on the Tamron thread misled you. I assumed both would eventually be a-mount but was getting my news from Canon Rumors who obviously only care about Canon. I quickly followed up with a comment Sigma Rumors is only mentioning the cheaper Contemporary in a Sony mount. I hope this is either an error or decision Sigma changes.
Guess I’m not one of you trustworthy sources!
The S is aimed at professionals, both in weight and price. There has never been a professional sports/wildlife camera with A-mount (or FE-mount).
According to Sigma, only the lower grade Contemporary lens will eventually be done in A-mount
According to Sigma, the Contemporary lens will be done in Sony mount (without further details):

According to Digital Photography Review, it will be done in Sony FE mount, not in A mount:

Spelling mistake or requiem for Minolta AF / Sony Alpha mount?
For Sony FE mount (Dpreview)
Nope. No Tamron, Sigma lenses for FE.
Hoping also the S version will be done for Sony
It’s great that Sigma at least offers the consumer version for A mount and with OS like on the 50-500. This will be the go-to supertele lens for A mount for the next couple of years. Expecting it to be hard to get. Preorder placed!
What is the difference between sport & contemporary?
The only difference is Two FLD vs One FLD?
S appears to be a different optical design with 24 elements in 16 groups. C is 20 elements in 14 groups with a much smaller front element. Min. focusing distance is different too.
You’re welcome.
Now we have 3 chioces for 150-600.
Sigma has wisely decided to not dissable the stabilization for A mount while Tamron has foolishly decided to dissable it….As I have previosly posted given a choice people will not buy The tamron..and I have made that comment to Tamron too.
Now Tamon may as well not even bother th o build thier A mount version with no stabilizaton
The Tamron version would simply be a foolish choice now thatSigma has stabilization on thier A mount version.
So now we need to determine what the quality and price difference between the two Sigmas is.
If we do decide the more expensive version is a better value than we have to ask …when or if A mount will be available and will the mount conversion service be available for that conversion if they choose not to release the A mount version.
Sigma previosly anounced 2 new global vision teladapters…will these be coming out in A mount?
Sony users have long complained that Tamron dissables the OSS on Sony mount lenses and Tamron has been oblivious to those complaints…Sigma has heard those complaints and is apparently exactly matching the Tamron lens line witj the stabilization….Tamrons lack of concern for its consumers will now have consequences as Sonyusers will not buy the Tamron
But only two 150-600’s for Sony A-mount as the Sport lens is not planned for Sony, only the Contemporary.
Only one choice fr Sony..the low end Sigma..Tamron is not a choice buying a dliberately dissabled lens was only an option when there was no competition…now that a fullyenabled Sigma is available anyone choosing the Tamron would be a fool .
The other option of coarse is to buy a Nikon or Canon body to allow use of both the higher quality version and the new high quality teleconverters.
Sigma has released a very high quality global vision 1.4 and 2.0x teleadaptor…but NOT FOR SONY…
While I am excited that this great new stuff is now becoming availabke I am very frustrated that as a Sony user I can only get the second class stuff.
Sony would be wise to anounce thier own higher quality 600mm zoom lens of about f4.8 or 5.6.
The fact that the higher quality version is not avaikable might otherwise make some people switch mounts.
This type of lens and a macro is basically all a wildlife photographer needs and certainly for me this lens would have its own body permenently attached.
A mount users can stop complaining now! haha

Admin, On September 5th you reported that Sports version will be announced in six months is that still accurate?
They’re doing nothing to position it there. They’re not releasing any high end
A-mount cameras. They’re not releasing any high end A-mount lenses, or
flashes, or accessories.
A-mount is done. Dead. Rotting. Festering.
Easy there…calm down and take your medicine.
Admin I looked on Sigma’s website at both 150-600mm lenses they are going to offer and neither of them had the Sony A-mount listed as an option. Is your info accurate?
Andreas is not the only one to say the Contemporary model will be available for Sony A-mount. I saw that at DP Review, ThePhoblographer, Imaging-Resource, and BH Photo (see link above).
