Another one? I appreciate the development, but can’t they roll it into larger updates?
I’d rather they didn’t hold back improvements and issue them as they develop them 🙂 You always have the choice of skipping some and doing them on your schedule 🙂
Yah, that’s fair. It just seems like they’re missing stuff that they shouldn’t in their haste to get stuff out.
This was a larger update, but it introduced some bugs so this is meant to fix those mainly.
Let me begin by the disclosure that I work for Metabones but allow me to say a few words about the A7RII.
Before the A7RII was shipped, expectations had been drummed up by an early report of great AF performance with a Metabones III and a Canon EF24-70/2.8L USM, but as soon as the camera shipped that turned into disappointment as the success did not extrapolate to all other lenses, but only some of them. I think I can rightfully say, that any lens worked at all with such a radically new feature as PDAF using a previous-generation adapter is testimony to the foresight put into the firmware. But obviously, we needed to service our sizable user base and do so quickly. We were not journalists but we didn’t have advanced access to the camera. We got it like everyone else at the beginning of August. Slightly more than a month later, we made the A7RII support available for download and at the same time made available Olympus and JVC AF for our Micro Four Thirds products. It was hasty because that was what was expected of us by our users, but it was by no means rushed as we had had plenty of testing done before release. Most users who downloaded on day 1 were happy, issues were uncommon, and the quality of the firmware was good even if you disregard the time frame and the magnitude of the change. It went from being compatible only with some lenses to being compatible with virtually all lenses. We could not have postponed the release until now, which would have been too much of a wait by our users. This latest firmware update fixes most of the remaining issues and we will continue to release new firmware whenever the need arises.
Thanks for your candidness, conurus
awesome!!! i just experienced the intermittent exposure issues last shoot and posted them on the forums but no one seems to know about it. Hopefully they fixed it!
I have gen 1 of the SBs and two sets of screws come loose easily, I’m a little hesitant to buy any more Metabones products…
Are there any alternatives, be it with or without focal reducer, that have the ability to update their firmware?
Umm…Techart?
Thanks!
Im not so into it. But on my A7. Whats the good thing about speed booster for my camera
I guess many video shooters use crop mode (APS-C or Super35) with A7s and A7Rii. They use speed boosters.
Now I wonder if those idiots that bashed the A7rII AF compatibility would come back and retest it.
It would be so nice if they also mentioned what those “some” lenses so everybody could decide if it worth upgrading or not.
