Is this better the Metabones EF smart adapter? If so, how..
I wouldn’t expect it to, but if it at least comes close, which the previously existing Lens Turbo adapters didn’t, it would become a real alternative for asignificantly lower price.
Doesn’t look like its got any electronic contacts so won’t be able to transfer electronic data like aperture and shutter settings?
No, it indeed is fully manual. If you want electronic control of aperture (and possibly AF), that leaves only the Metabones option.
Ok right, thanks. I think I’ll stick with the Metabones adaptor
Any idea what “special square end of the lens” is supposed to mean?
I wonder how much better it has become and how the optical performance now compares to the Metabones Speed Booster.
its kinda square at the end of the the lens, unlike the previous version which was circular.
this
Looks like a Rectangle with cut off corners to me..
I like your nick 😀
Hehe, as they say… Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery 🙂
LOL. I assume this photo has been taken from the ‘sensor side’. Which means, that all those reflections that you can see at the edge of this ‘rectangular’ shield will have some impact on the image (probably getting worse as you stop down). Seriously, wtf.
Works well actually.
Thanks. Probably reduces stray light, which might indeed have been a cause for part of the shortcomings of the earlier design.
The square end makes sure that only light to hit the sensor comes I to the camera. So this will eliminate internal reflections in the camera. Most Sony lenses have this “square end”.
Actually, light from every part of rear element hits the sensor. It is not like the rear element is a laser which emits only straight light. Such shade over rear element will cause lower transmission values and might affect the shape of out-of-focus highlights.
Since EF lenses don’t have aperture-rings, how the hell do you change aperture with this?
You have to do it on a canon camera beforehand. Useful, right?
I have the EF version, but don’t use it with EF lenses. EF is a pretty good base to be able to use many other mounts with small adaptors on the Lens Turbo. I use mainly m42 lenses, but also have Olympus OM and Contax lenses. All work well with the EF version. Plus there’s a few third party EF lenses that do have aperture rings (though not many) like the Voigtlander 40mm.
Hi Meanwhile
May i ask you more detail about using other adapter infront of EF-E lens turbo? Is it applicable for all adapter include M42, CY, Nikon? I remember read from speed booster specs that it can not work with another adapter stacked on. Thank you
The Metabones EF Speed Booster has electrical contacts that can cause problems with some adaptors, where the Lens Turbo doesn’t have that issue because it’s a “dumb” mount (no contacts or electronics, just metal and glass). It’s possible to use most lenses with the right adaptor.
Things I love and like about sony cameras:
-I love how sony makes you a better photographer! I love A7’s face tracking and continuous focus technology! I like how i can compose my shot through the EVF and see the outcome before i click the shutter. I love my high quality zeiss lenses! I like the tiltable screens because it opens up many possibilties of composing a shot.
Things I want in the future and things I dont like about sony’s product:
-Built in Wireless radio trigger for future Sony flashes pls! Sometimes using manual flash is better than the optical TTL. Sony please support us strobists!I would like to be able to use my Sony flashes without attaching anymore accessories like pocketwizard and such. You know how nice it would be if u can radio trigger your flash manually? I can go farther away from my off camera flashes without worrying about that crappy optical sensor distance limitation or a post blocking my line of sight.
-I hate the battery life! how many times do I have to replace the battery because it goes down so fast? I even have the grip for my A7 and I go through 6 batteries with the type of shooting that I do. Can u borrow Sanyo’s eneloop battery technology already? that battery technology is awesome! I use that for my sony flashes and it helps lower the chance of over heating when im firing constantly.
-Lenses! who in the world use f4 lenses indoor? where are the wide aperture FE lenses for my a7? The 55mm is very high in quality but it doesnt have OSS. (It is still my second favorite lens of all time next to my 135mm 1.8 zeiss.) I hope in the future every FE will have OSS to compensate with E-mount system. Oh and 70-200mm F4? u’ve got to be kidding me! that thing wont have a smooth bokeh and it’s gunna ruin my ISO setting indoor lol. Stop with the f4 and give us f2.8 and wider choice for FE. If f2.8 is too big for A7 then pls make the A9 with a DSLR type body in order to hold the big n heavy lenses.
-Is it possible to make the AF area of a99II bigger that its predecessor? I sometimes go manual on a99 just to get the composition that i want. on my A7 it is simply a breeze.
-RX series camera that is built for speed like Nikon’s 1 V3.
RX20 Sports camera, 1 inch BIS, 24-100mm equivalent, f1.8-2.8 aperture, 20 fps in full AF, 90% AF area coverage, 240fps slow mo XAVCS
Thanks sony!
Yeah, about that new Lens Turbo II EF to E-mount adapter, eh?
Confused as to why this is posted in a thread about a speed booster???
Any MTF curve? It’s seems the finishing is worser than version I.
Any information about the new elements in the website?
If possible, they have to do a sony EF to E mount lens turbo with electronic contacts that will bring the A6000 image quality and DOF as close as possible to full frame. this adapter can cannibalize the A7 and might replace all other optical focal reducers while the only necessary adapters will remain mechanical only.
Hey, is there any news of EF to FE adapter except of metabones v3? With EXIF and autofocus
Thank you!
I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E0CTFKK/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
AF is slow like on the metabones but otherwise it works pretty well.
THANK YOU!
There is a new speed booster style adapter which is called “Speed+” This one is slightly cheaper than Lens Turbo and the design is my favorite. Now we have 3 choices. SpeedBooster, LensTurbo, and Speed+. I don’t know if there are other SB style adapter.
Thanks for sharing this Andrea !
Has been asking them if there is a Sony A to E mount version on the way, and got this answer from the seller:
“The
current Mitakon Lens Turbo II Focal Reducer for Sony NEX is for the
E-mount only, and they have no schedule for Sony A-mount at this moment”
Got a Canon EF to E Mount on the way that I will test on Sony NEX, so hope to share some more testing soon (If the shipping will not take to long)

there’s a lot of “noname” speed boosters on ebay priced under $100, incl. A to E mount
“Special square end of the lens”
What does it mean?
Rectangular (not square) shading over rear element?
Yes. Less reflections from sensor-back lens.
As I understand it, it’s a rectangular shroud on the back of the adapter such as you’d find on certain lenses.
I don’t see anything about a version 2 on Mitakon’s website, MXCamera’s website (who officially sell mitakon products) or MXCamera’s ebay page. I doubt that’s genuine.
Pictures please 🙂 When test show the problems of the mkI are solved I’ll directly buy one!
Will share pictures when it arrives, the shipping from Hong Kong it not the fastest. The plan is to test with a Canon 24-105 F4 L lens.
