  1. I really wonder if those new Nano AR coatings are worth the $1000 price hike (making it the most expensive 70-200mm f/2.8 lens on the market!)

I mean, I could see it if it had a blue badge on it like this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/857773-REG/Zeiss_1984_035_70_200mm_T2_9_Compact_Zoom.html

SONY has some balls to price this thing $500 higher than Nikon and Canon’s top 70-200mm offerings which both have stabilization built into the lens. I like having stabilization built into my bodies as much as the next guy, and I’d like to think that having already “paid” for my stabilization would result in a better price when buying lenses. This pricing is out to lunch.

    1. According to nearly everyone who tested the lense yet, its very good but only that.

I dont know the Canon 70-200 but i tested those 5 lenses intensive

      Canon 70-200 f/2.8
      Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS
      Canon 70-200 f/4
      Canon 70-200 f/4 IS
Tamron SP 70-200 Di VC USD

And the Sony is beaten easily by all of them except the “Canon 70-200 f/4” which is very slightly worse wide open, but cost only 570 €…

Anyway, the Tamron SP 70-200 f/2.8 is aviable for Sony and beats the Sony 70-200 G SSM II so why should anyone seriously consider buying it anyway.

Sonys price tags are and will every be far from unrealistic.

The Zeiss 24-70 f/2.8 worse than the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 too and is the same price.

Sonys Lense prices are just incredible horrible and if Sigma EX and Tamron SP wouldnt exist, i wouldnt use Sony at all.

    2. 70-400 g – $1999, 70-400g ii – 2199 around 10% increase
      300mm g f2.8 – $6999, 300mm g f2.8 – $7499 around 7.5% increase
      20-210 g f2.8 – $1999, version ii -$2999, a 50% increase,

I find the first two cases an acceptable increase for updated lenses, but I can’t fathom the logic for the cost increase on the 70-210 lens. All the lenses have the same type of AF motor and coatings. While the 300mm got weather sealing, the zooms don’t seem to have done. It looks as if it is the new Tamron for me, especially as the A99 has a focus limiter i body.

  2. blog.micmojo.com/2013/sony-a7/ large format/medium format/35mm film photographer Jan Scholz takes his new Sony A7 for a (rather unusual – for him) digital shoot.

    1. Oh SHIT! Well if B&H and Canada have them then Adorama has GOT to be getting theirs today or tomorrow. I ordered w/ Adorama personally so I’m sitting here fingers crossed. I’m now on vacation and hope it’ll arrive asap!

Unfortunately until some other lenses/adapters arrive I’ll just have a handful of older converted lenses to play with.

  3. Same lens from Canon (70-200 f/2.8 without IS, as is the Sony G II) costs $1449.
    Sony costs TWICE as much.
    This is beyond rediculous.

  4. A few words about the A7 and the Kit lens…and a big cry for help if any of you can…

The camera feels great and is really comfortable in your hands, I took about 150 pictures and must say some are great others are not, mostly of all I guess because of the lens…some are sharp but mostly not. Manual focusing mostly helps. When it’s a bit dark sometimes AF lags. but I was used to the NEX-7 which was way worse, so I’m mostly satisfied with the speed, but already think about how to save up money for a Zeiss lens!;-/

Coming to my problem: If some of you might already have their A7’s as well, maybe you can tell me about the eye detection focus function (not eye start af), I mean AF centering on the eyes, I programmed my user buttons with that function and cannot seem to activate it, am I doing something wrong or does my A7 not work correctly? Thats a function I definitely want to have!

Please, if someone has an advice? I’d really appreciate it!

      1. Hi Martin, thanks for letting me know. Maybe this is a bug!? I’ve seen a video of this asian guys focussing on action figures and the eye focus box was right on target everytime he switched to a other figurine!

Anyhow, I openend up a ticket a sony support. Firts operator couldn’t help me because they haven’t got any manual yet! lol

In fact, the 700 page manual in the box is just really, really rudimental.

They say the more descrptive one will be out this week!

  5. well, I wont let the Sony door hit my ass on the way out. $3000 for a 70-200 F2.8?
for the same price I can put the extra grand toward a D610 or D800…
