Strange that is in stock so early. Probably preorders were not so strong.
Has anyone gotten any update from Amazon yet? I preordered an A7 within minutes of it going live on the site, yet my order now only says “This item will arrive AFTER December 25th.” What about that huge stock arriving the US? Is this going to be another availability issue like with the Nex7?
Not to be a downer or anything, but Amazon has dropped the ball for pretty much any major camera release. The Olympus E-M5, E-M1, NEX-7, Panasonic GH2, Sony A77 or A99, etc… were all instances in which Amazon accepted preorders but were not able to deliver cameras in the same timeframe as camera companies like B&H and Adorama.
I was afraid of that from the start, and only chose Amazon because I had a big chunk of credit there. I’d hoped it’d be a different story this time with availability seemingly not an issue in any other region or from any other store. Perhaps I should order from Sony’s site now and see if I’d still be better off.
Forget Amazon for any important purchases, they have been sending used/open items and never package properly. I’m sticking with B&H/Adorama.

I pre-ordered everything in the announcement on October 15th, then canceled what I decided I didn’t want. Today I have received delivery date updates from Amazon telling me that I will receive my A7 and 35mm f/2.8 lens on December 3rd.
Still waiting for BHphoto to ship my a7r. Can’t wait anymore.
Not a single A7R has shipped in the entire western hemisphere so you aren’t alone but it will likely happen in the next 72 hours.
It’s been noted by a commenter on here that Henry’s (Canada) shipped theirs a few days back. They’ve been plentiful in Asia. I ordered a 35mm FE lens from Japan Saturday and it just arrived on my desk this morning. Kind of annoyed Sony can’t box up a few A7rs and get them the hell over here already >:(
My A7r will be in the shop tomorrow (wednesday) with the 35mm and it’s the official day for delivery in Switzerland. It was first announced by Sony Switzerland for last Friday but apparently Sony Europe has forced the delivery for tomorrow.

Damn you! How lucky! I requested a notification for when they are in stock at BH but still have not received any emails about it yet so I wonder if they are just taking care of pre-orders at the moment, however my 35mmFE has shipped. Unfortunately there is still no news from Amazon (where I ordered my camera from), in fact it says that it wont arrive till after xmas, ridiculous!
it’s a crapshoot with amazon. I got my d800 and d4 from them in their initial shipments but sometimes, especially for camera gear, they are not treated like BH and other specific photography stores.
Why can’t the body be in stock first?!?!?!??! This making my wait even harder.

Hey my fellow SAR fans, first of all I got an off topic statement to make about my A7 preorder at Sony online in Europe: Ordered it on 17th of Oct. 2013 and got charged for it immediately. Not so good! It was delivered 4 weeks later on the 19th, great! Registered it on the weekend, but didn’t get my three year warranty for free, like those who preordered it a week later, really sucks! Complained to Sony and got a coupon for €50 which covers almost an additional year of warranty costing € 59,90, ok I can live with that! Then go online again to buy the additional year with my €50 coupon to find out, the option has vanished from my account….why??? Because your only able to prolong your warranty with extra years up to six weeks after you purchased the item…this badly sucks because, the camera was just delivered to me!!! And also a big bummer is that warranty begins NOT on the delivery date but on the date you purchased…thats disturbing to say at the least!!!

Anyhow after getting that off my mind, a few words about the A7 and the Kit lens…and a big cry for help if any of you can…
The camera feels great and is really comfortable in your hands, I took about 150 pictures and must say some are great others are not, mostly of all I guess because of the lens…some are sharp but mostly not. Manual focusing mostly helps. When it’s a bit dark sometimes AF lags. but I was used to the NEX-7 which was way worse, so I’m mostly satisfied with the speed, but already think about how to save up money for a Zeiss lens!;-/
Coming to my problem: If some of you might already have their A7’s as well, maybe you can tell me about the eye detection focus function (not eye start af), I mean AF centering on the eyes, I programmed my user buttons with that function and cannot seem to activate it, am I doing something wrong or does my A7 not work correctly? Thats a function I definitely want to have!
Please, if someone has an advice? I’d really appreciate it!

That’s patently illegal. Sony can’t just make this up. They have to follow trade laws like everyone else. Your warranty starts with the handover of the product. Return it now to get a correct deal.
Exactly! You’re right, but it seems as not many complain, they keep holding on to this practice! Anyhow, after I had complained, they somehow just charged me with 40 Cents for an 3-year warranty plan. So I can live with that. But as you said…it’s rooking loyal customers!
lol…well I preordered it (A7R) from BestBuy… why do I have a feeling I might be waiting for a while. Oh well. Wish I hadn’t seen all the wonderful sample images online. It’s given me a real itch to get my hands on this camera.

Best Buy can surprise you. I bought a D800 off the shelf at my local store before any of the big internet sites started shipping pre-orders for them.
BestBuy has actually always done very well for me. Kinda wish i had ordered from them instead of BH. I get 4% back and their return policies are far better.
meh… i get 5% back and if something’s wrong I can return it locally… so yea.. seriously.
For me, the tax kills the deal which is why I buy from BH/adorama for higher ticket items. Glad it worked out for you though!!

I had a feeling they were going to ship the kit first but the I fully expected the 35mm to be delayed. Never thought I would have it first.

I have received my LAEA3 adapter. It will be interesting to see what the pixel peeping results will be when comparing the LAEA3 adapter with the LAEA4 adapter using the same lens.
I picked up my A7 today… the only dislike is not having a charger come with the camera… instead you have to charge the battery with it in the camera…. but i’m buying a charger tomorrow and extra battery…..

So far the focus is very accurate and FAST! Phase detect comes with that option Off…. i turned it on.. 🙂

I don’t understand people getting excited about no charger. I ordered one some time ago knowing that this was the case. I got the charger, two batteries, and an automobile adapter for $27 US. That will give me three batteries. Most people will want extra batteries anyway, so I think that this is very reasonable.
Yeah, I bought the dual Wasabi batteries with the external charger and in car adapter. Super cheap and highly recommended from the guys on Dpreview.com. I don’t care about them not including a charger in the kit, I’d rather they keep the price down on the camera so we pay less. With the aftermarket charger and the the camera itself, there’s more ways to charge the batteries than ever before. A car adapter for the camera would me nice but I already have a power converter for the back of my Jeep.

How do you turn on Eye detect AF permanently? I can’t seem to get that one working. Everytime theres a green confirmation square over the eye which then immediately “grows” back over the whole face! Appreciate if you could give me a hint!

Dave not knocking your shots at all. They are what they are. Do you call it portrait of Retire Canon? just wanted to caveat the great quality of the camera. Not loving doesn’t = give up and start Knitting . 😀 If I had said just the quality is amazing it would have turned into a troll war over the whole thing.
As I just checked now Focus Camera (the site with the a7/a7r value kit that admin reported earlier) has on their website for A7 as “in stock ships today!”, and “pre-order with 20 left in stock” on A7R. However I haven’t received shipping confirmation email from them as of yet (ordered A7 package on Nov 12th), eagerly waiting!
My Sony a7r shipped from B&H at 4PM. I am in the NY area so it will be delivered tomorrow. I ordered 2:10 am 10/16/13 through a link on this site I believe.
I ordered an a7r from B&H at 5am on the announcement day and it hasn’t shipped yet. They must not have gotten a very large initial batch in 🙁
I got my a7K today! I’m new to Sony (Canon 5D3 is my main camera). I’m excited to give this little guy a try tomorrow since I plan on calling in sick 🙂

Blue balls. That is how I feel. I feel like the A7r is in reach, I see all of these wonderful sample images, I see it is shipping in every country in the world except for the US (exaggerating), and I can’t have it yet nor do I know when I will get it. This anxiety can’t be good for my health. As a Disabled Veteran with PTSD (self diagnosed), Sony should make every effort to get it in my hands as fast as possible……
DEEP BREATH…Ok, I will try to have some patience and wait like everyone else. I’ve heavily considered ordering the A7 with kit lens just to get something in my hands and then return it after I get the A7r and Zeiss lenses. lol
Still in stock? I guess the A7r will completely obliterate the A7 in sales.
