The new A7rII and new RX cameras got announced just like the leaked Sony camera roadmap “predicted”. But there is one piece of the puzzle still missing. The “A6xxx series” camera. That camera was scheduled to be released before the A7rII (according to sources) but has been delayed because of overheating/hardware issues. So it’s yet unclear if that camera will still be announced in June. Weeks ago an (usually) good source said Sony had the plan to launch that camera around mid June. This means…this week. But there is yet absolutely no 100% guarantee this will happen.
So far it’s rumored that the camera is placed above the A6000 and will NOT replace it. It’s more of a [shoplink 8454 ebay]NEX-7 successor[/shoplink] and it’s likely to be named “A7000”. If the camera doesn’t get announced this month than it’s highly likely Sony pushed the release back to the next Sony announcement period in September.
Rumors aside: What’s your wish list for the A7000?

less megapixels for the A7000 😀
Since the a6000 is a pretty decent camera, my only wish is a larger body. I know, everyone wants small bodies… but the (only) thing I do like at the a3000 is the body… having this in high quality magnesium and weather sealed, this would be really great for a pro-oriented camera.
Also GPS and WiFi would be nice, touchscreen is not needed (at least for me). And more customizable buttons, at least three “C” buttons like we have on the a7s. And a larger body would help fighting overheating issues; and would provide some space to have 2 batteries in at the same time, without a vertical grip…
What you want then is a A77II
YES if removed disgusting glass on which is af – that is killing the image quality and ISO on a77ii – if they put new senzor with onboard pd-af ( 399 ) and remove hidius slt glass
“Space to have 2 small batteries in at the same time” ??
Why not 1 big battery ??
NP-FW50 1020mAh $50 x2 -> $100
NP-FM500H 1650mAh $42
Generally, for a whole day event, I usually need “4” FM500H, approx. 7000mAh.
If the camera use the tiny battery, you need “7” stupid tiny batteries a day, cost $350.
and if there is another event next day, you will need many chargers, otherwise, you will need to wake up in the mid night to change battery.
also ok; but if you are not into A-mount you probably have two ore more NEX-batteries laying around… just as you would use a additional grip.
the prices you listed are for original parts i assume…? never used theses apart from the battery coming with the cam. Always “cheap” (10€ each) replacement, never had any issues..
A6000 + touch screen!!! this is must have thing in new camera, weather sealing would be nice, but I doubt it will happen on this type of camera. Would be nice some small grip improvements 🙂 Battery life, I doubt it is possible giving size of camera 🙂
Tri navi, IBIS and internal 4K, even if the clip length is limited to say 10 minutes. Also maybe the BSI sensor treatment as well.
It needs the reinforced mount, IBIS and the build quality & higher quality paint finish from the A7(R)II. Even better AF is a bonus. That would pretty much do it for me. If the A7RII is anything to go by, though, Sony might just surprise or astound with this one.
Personally though, I’m thinking I now have less of a need for a dedicated APS-C body. The crop mode in the A7RII is 18MP, which is more than enough for most situations. I’m not paying launch price for it though.
Only reason for an additional APS-C body besides A7Rii is a significant higher frame rate.
I predict 12-16 fps!
Actually, sensor from A7Rii can read its aps-c subset as 30 fps already 😉
This was a point on my A7Rii withlist:
High framerate in APS-C crop mode!
Wahhhh – Sony: Come on – do it! It’s just software!
1. Weather sealing
2. IBIS
3. Same new grip as a7 II
4. Overall better build with more stable base for tripod mount
5. New video codec and 4k would be nice
I love my a6k but if the first 4 wishes were granted, it would be the perfect APSC.
Where’s my a5?
So, this is the moment people write they NEED the IBIS, BSI, AF, EVF and internal 4K from the A7RII, but only are prepared to pay $600 for it?
You forgot the small body and weather sealed
I want built-in tilt sensor ability.
And touchscreen.
What is a tilt sensor ability?
Whatever it is, I want it too!
For DoF rotation.
Having tilt-shift effect with any lenses instead of only unwieldy special ones.
I thought IBIS-mechanic only moves the sensor in two axis (and rotates). I thought the sensor is always parallel to the mount.
You are correct.
I’d be willing to pay more for those features. The point is not that the new camera is a refresher, it is a higher-level camera. If Sony came out with this camera and a weather-sealed lens to match a body, I’d easy pay double.
Of course the a6000 will no be release this June, first they just launch a marketing campaign with Emanuel Neuer promoting the a6000, why would they release a new camera and kill the inertia of the marketing campaign? Secondly the camera might be compete in price with the new RX100, while these do not belong to the same segment, it can cannibalize possible sells and therefore a later release make more sense. Third, if Sony really have issues with the heating or any other problem, why to rush? they have 3 new very appealing cameras plus a6000 is still a reference in its segment.
I am waiting for the a7000 as I might be pushed to buy a a6000 for my holidays in September, but lets be realistic, it wont be release.
The only constant here is the monthly push back 😉
i guess Sony will released on September that will same time X-PRO2,GX8 release.
I would like A7000 to be “high end” fast cam great for street and photoreport. My wish list is:
-3EV AF sensitivity for low good light focusing
Better DR with clean 6400iso
Bigger EVF
Weather sealing
Front and back dial
Separated AF-L and AE-L buttons
Sillent mode
4 Fn buttons
3 Custom modes
I just bought A7ii and this is rather chunky camera. It weighs as much as DSLR but is smaller and feels like a piece of heavy metal.
So based on that I am not so keen on IBIS or 4K internal recording in A7000. I like A6000 shape and weight and would love to see XAVC-S 1080p recording with great quality, 14 bit uncompressed RAW option, refined AF tracking and of course fast focusing with Canon lenses.
I don’t think 4K recording has much to do with the weight of the camera (although IBIS certainly does). Despite IBIS, the A7 II is still noticeably lighter than any DSLR with a comparable size sensor. It’s not really appropriate to compare it with cheap APS-C DSLRs as they don’t offer the same image quality and tend to be rather flimsier in build quality.
Although I would agree that if the main reason to choose an APS-C mirrorless camera is compactness and light weight, IBIS will have no place. However, some people view APS-C (for DSLR and mirrorless) as a preferred platform for action photography, so there it might have a role.
I’m sure that any top-of-the-range APS-C Sony will certainly include a BSI sensor with the improved AF and improved Canon lens support seen on the A7R II. It would surely also include 4K recording and a silent shutter mode.
The question is over IBIS as the possibility of stabilising third party lenses will be difficult for Sony to resist albeit that it would radically change the body.
Well said!
The EVF is another point where a6000 is not quite good in resolution. They need new EVF unit. Even a7r ii is not best in class now that Leuca is offering 4MP EVF
Given the A7R I guess that will follow too, although, given the space constrains, the optical elements might have to be smaller.
My wish list for the A7000 is… New APS-C E-mount lenses. How about a couple more wideangle, fast, primes, or even better a sharper tele-zoom while still being smaller than the equivalent FF size/weight?
I’d expect to see any new high-end APS-C camera to have a BSI sensor. I think 4K video is a given along with silent shutter mode. What would be a major change is if IBIS was included. Welcome as that might be, it would substantially increase the size of the camera, probably more noticeably than on the FF cameras.
And still no news about a RX1 successor? 🙁
Coming soon.
waiting intently! 😀
Huh, exciting times. Nice to hear, Andrea! Makes me happy.
(SR5) New RX FF is in the works! Release at Photokina.
http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-dont-worry-new-rx-ff-is-in-the-works-release-at-photokina/
I have heard that RX1 successor is coming 16 month ago. 😉
My wishlist is…
– Quicker selection of AF point. I don’t care whether a lens takes 150ms or 250ms to focus, when the user interface for choosing where to focus takes 2000ms of button pushing. Either add the joystick from the A77II or the touchscreen from the Nex-5.
– The ability to scroll between multiple faces when face detect finds more than one, rather than having it choose one of them for me.
– Better EVF and clean video feed to EVF (not downsized then magnified)
– Real programmability — I should be able to push a button to put it in AF-C mode, not push a button to bring up the AF mode selector menu so I can then use some other button(s) to put it in AF-C mode.
– An app that lets me write my own exposure/ISO tables for P mode, and save multiple profiles for “action”, “street”, “available light”, etc.
My wish is simply an APS-C version of the A7rII for less than $1700. But there is one thing, namely its high ISO performance. If it is not better than that of the A6000 I will wait.
I can not understand how Sony sensors in Nikon bodies can do so much better than in Sony’s own. Put another way, the Canon 6D and the Sony A7 according to DxOMark have close low-light scores. Yet the images from the A7 on DPR look more than half stop noisier. When I converted the downloaded RAW files myself, too.
Yeah. Specifically, these two items from the A7RII are things I REALLY want to see in APS-C. These two alone will make it an insta-buy for me:
1) IBIS
2) The A7RII’s improvements that allow on-sensor PDAF to work with EA1/EA3 adapters instead of EA2/EA4
One of the main reasons I still have most of my Pentax gear is because of my Bigma. If I can get a Tamron 150-600 and IBIS in the body – I can finally replace that. It’s pretty much the one thing preventing me from fully committing to Sony and selling all of my old Pentax gear.
BSI will be nice but is less important than the above two for me.
“My wish is simply an APS-C version of the A7rII for less than $1700. But
there is one thing, namely its high ISO performance. If it is not
better than that of the A6000 I will wait.”
APS-C is not going to be significantly better than a6000 if it is the same old Bayer filter. Even BSI, even on 3 times smaller 1″ sensor does not add significantly to high ISO performance (see RX100 vs RX100M2 tests). Even RGBW would add just a tiny bit. They’s need a whole new, filterless approach, like microprisms or multi-layer sensor, and that is a whole different story unlikely to come from Sony anytime soon.
This would be my wishlist:
– weather sealing and more rugged body with a slightly larger grip, but not much more overall size
– IBIS
– sligthly faster and more consistent AF
– minimum shutter speed with auto ISO
– tougher mount like A7II (I use the FE 70-200mm with my A6000)
– BSI sensor for better ISO performance
PS: I’d take silent shutter as a bonus
I couldn’t give a damn about 4K though. I have no idea why everyone seems to want it. Only a small fraction of people are actually gone use it anyway. And Sony will probably not build in any pro video features into an APS-C camera.
No, the Lusso is.
The Nex 7 got massive heat problems when filming (more speciffically transfering data)… that sony somehow managed to keep quiet. And now they wan’t to do incamera 4K … just f*** crazy if you ask me and not surprising that they are pushing the release-date more and more.
I’am quite shure that if this camera come out in the next 3 month it will have the same overheating issues with 4-K as the Nex-7 with Full-HD (AVCHD)!
(because the A6000 still has some, not as much as the Nex-7 but still)
If A7000 come with IBIS internal 4K 100mbps Slog-2 would be a STELLAR DREAM! I’m excited how sony is becoming the top research and technology 🙂
PLEASE!!!!
Whats ahead?
The A7Rii has dealt the final deathblow to the mirror…both dslt and dslr.
FF BSI is in its infancy and future versions, such as the rumored A9 will be higher resolution.
Nikon has long been rumored to be producing a ff f mount mirrorless camera around the end of this year, and Sony clearly now makes sensors they will be able to use.
If Sony does make an A99ii…which I doubt…it will just be an A9 with an A mount.
Canon should be coming out with a high end ff mirrorless system, and has predicted they will rule the market, but I think Sony’s bold move of full hogh speed autofocus compatability has removed Canons biggest advantage, and puts that prediction in doubt.
I think as we move forward we will finally see a long overdue era, where we can select our camera products based on merritt, and not be forced to buy the compatable products the manufacturers would like to require is to buy.
As for the A7000, my guess is apsc, bsi, slightly higher res than A6000….28mp?,…32mp?…and similar but faster autofocus to the A7Rii.
I also expect full non Sony compatability.
how it’s a final deathblow?
Lenses are 1.5-3x expensive the DSLR counterparts, and they still need to make small lenses (at least they have BSI now)
All. DSLR lenses are now or will soon be fully compatable.
The mirror now does absolutely nothing that mirrorless cannot do better.
It may take other manufacturers a little time to catch up and desighn all new models…and we will probably see a few new models tjat are already in the pipeline, but make absolutely no mistake DSLR and DSLT are dead.
It’s a little wish-thinking.
A7Rii has according Sony 40% faster AF compared to old A7R. Bottom line this is still slower than similar priced DSLRs, because A7R AF really sucks. But it’s a step into right direction.
DSLRs are indeed dead. NX1 showed the potential of mirrorless. And over time all mirrorless manufacturers can make AF like NX1 or better. I would like to see A7Rii already being comparable to NX1, but only 40% faster than A7R still seems to be too less improvement.
Agree, the A7R AF is really very slow.
They need 400% faster not only 40%.
May be A7R Mark10 will have AF speed similar to DSLR.
By Mk IV/V, these cameras will be leaving DSLR in the dust.
May be true, if Cankon stop their development in DSLR.
If Nikon D5 come out this year, I guess they will lift the bar higher again.
$7000 cameras are not mass market. And Sony does not compete in this category yet (maybe it will someday, but it needs native f/2.8 zoom trinity and f/4 300, 400, 500mm first – at least).
Sony has 300 F2.8 & 500 F4 & native 2.8 zoom in a-mount. 😛
Now only a Pro grade camera is missing 🙂
Again, a-mount lenses are not native to FE mount cameras.
Yes, you are right 🙂
100% agree.
Therefore they should make a pro grade camera in a-mount. 😛
500 F4 is too expensive compared to Canikon and lacks IS. I predict this market as a niche for Canikon DSLRs in the long run.
Yes, agree it is too expensive,
I guess because they only sell very few copies.
IMO, one of the main reason is they don’t have a pro camera to fit that lens.
40% is the improvement with native E-mount lenses on static subjects.
For static subjects, it’s little relevant, we need quick AF on moving subject so in real life it might be much more than 40%
Also for adapted lenses it’s more like to 900%
You still need to use an adapter to take advantage of those 399 focusing phase detect points. The DSLR and SLT aren’t dead until you can get that speed NATIVELY. Until then, it’s the best modular camera ever- but deadblow? That remains to be seen.
What do you mean “NATIVELY”?? These 399 points use only main sensor, or it’s native in sense… or do you want Sony to make universal mount?
Haha, of course I want a $100 adaptor which will connect Canon, Nikon, Pentax lenses and so on, it’s not coming yet
Many people are reluctant to buy third party adapters…
Adapters may need to remain 3rd party for legal reasons.
High-end DSLRs still have special focus sensors for situations when object is too far or too close
I believe this is far better camera than anything available.
The sensors that detect when an object are too close or too far away are now on the sensor and work with dslr lenses in a manner similar to how the dslr did .
That is why older E mount needed special lenses for fast focus and this camera does not. This is a totally new focus system, not an improved version of an older system.
The good thing is previosly Sony was saying buy my camera system, now they are just saying buy my camera.
You can still use your dslr anytime you want, IF you want to.
Has anyone tested “high speed autofocus with legacy lenses” yet? If true for Canon glass, it is amazing
Reviews have tested with Canon lenses and Metabones adapter and say it is as fast or faster than native Canon cameras.
As for screw drve lenses…I could be wrong but I think screw drive does not work with LAEA3 adapter, and I am not sure if LAEA4 would work on the A7Rii..but if it did it would not be as fast as LAEA3
The camera is brand new, and my guess is new adapters will come out that adress those issues.
Currently there is no adapter that will fast focus Nikon glass…but I would certainly expect one to come out soon.
You are right, scre drive lenses will NEVER AF with the LA-EA1/3 adapter, thee is no focus motor, so no AF possible. Maybe a new adapter will arive in the future with a focus motor, who knows. The LA-EA2/4 adapter will work on the A7rII but will work with the mirror only…
Question is, why is there no adapter that do fast AF with Nikon glass, is it a problem with the patents on this mount? Or is it a thechnical problem? In the last case we may never see it…
AFAIK, Nikon glass has mechanical aperture control with that nose-bracket-thing.That requires a motor inside Nikon Adapters, whereas Canon Adapters have only electronic connectors and micro-chips.
Nikon lenses use mechanical diaphram linkage that has till now been incompatable with electronic diaphram everyone else uses.
AF can be made to work, diaphragm may still be an issue.
I already have a 7s and will get a 7rII…. so no, what I want is a high quality APS-C which surpasses the a7rII pixel density. Wrapped in a nice package. If sony will choose the a7 line of bodies for a high end APS-C sensor, I’m fine with.
a77ii not a7ii.
sorry… my fault. but a77II is A-mount. A good one but E-mount-only users might face “some” difficulties to attach their lenses…
Very likely it’ll have BSI sensor and more MP, probably around 30-32
I bet 28 mp
How about the new sensor from rx100 IV and rx10II.
16mp apsc.
In-body image stabalization.
Magnesium build.
XAVC.
and better EVF.
Rx100 & rx10 has a 1″ type sensor
I know. The point was the tech in the sensor, not the exact sensor from those cameras.
I don’t understand Sonys reasoning behind not adding touch screens, i’m really surprised the new cameras especially the RX100 doesn’t have at least touch to focus and shoot like the a5100. I do think the new a6100/a7000 will have it but will have to wait and see. IBIS would be good and so would weather sealing, can’t see that as they would need to produce weather sealed e-mount lenses.
I’d like FF in this form factor but BSI APSC will be fine and much more likely. The fast AF seems a given. I’d love:
IBIS
Weather sealing
10-15 fps
Uncompressed raw
But I’m really leery about 4K now given the heat rumors. My NEX7 had bad issues with video that were never addressed by Sony (I sold it). How does the tiny RX100 manage it?
RX100.4 is limited to 5 minutes in 4K video
Obviously RX100 has smaller and more advanced sensor
10 fps or more
100% AF coverage
Faster than NX1 (in every way)
4K 100-150 mb/s XAVC / h.265 with full sensor readout
120fps 1080p
240fps 720p
28-30MP BSI
Bigger, sturdier body with better ergonomics
4MP EVF
Bigger battery
5 axis stabilization
Sensor shift super resolution
Under $1200
touchscreen – the rest is already mentioned here
I wish for it to be the RX1 successor and be called the RX2.
All I want is an a7II with an improved APS-C sensor. None of that video stuff that I would never use.
Amen to that, brother.
Where is my A99 II or A9 PRO ??
Price at $4000,
blow 1Dx & D4s out of the water 😛
$3999 is too close to $3200 of A7RM2
What happened to the Sony Alpha 9 with 50MP that was reputed to arrive??
http://www.techradar.com/news/photography-video-capture/cameras/camera-rumors-1278354/8
Their rumor is come from SAR, so likely it will be wrong. 🙂
If you will be proven wrong in 6 months what will you do?
I am 90% sure a 50+MP is coming this year 🙂
(SR5) New RX FF is in the works! Release at Photokina.
http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-dont-worry-new-rx-ff-is-in-the-works-release-at-photokina/
16 months after the post, 9 months after photokina 😛
(SR5) The “heavy stuff” will be announced right before Photokina. This will likely include the new A-mount cameras and many new A-mount lenses.
http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-multiple-sony-announcements-august-19-sept-3-and-more/
Well, did it say which Photokina specifically? 😀
My Bad, You are right,
May be it means Photokina 2016 😛
9 to 1. Good odds! I bet against a Sony E-mount camera coming with 50+MP.
Really not much point as more MP would be needed to make a notable difference. Besides such a camera would compete with A7IIR.
Now if Sony really would surprise us, especially all claiming A-mount is dead they could release two new A-mount SLT cameras, A99II with 24MP and A99IIR with that 50+MP sensor you believe is coming. But I wouldn’t put any bets on the latter camera.
> I bet against a Sony E-mount camera coming with 50+MP.
And I bet any amount of money against you. 50+ mp is coming – I can’t just tell you when.
My bet was against Admin claiming a Sony 50+MP coming THIS year.
With no limit in time we will propably get 100MP cameras some day.
If we don’t set the limit for Sony cameras 80MP backs are already available for MF cameras and Sony themselves make a 51MP MF sensor.
yeah… THIS year… than it’s a very interesting bet. I wouldn’t bet because I don’t know nor do I have feeling about.
Andrea, you should start a betting agency in addition!
And you can bet for:
– mpix
– fps
– Sensor-tech
– features
– model-names
– release-dates
– …
With the 42MP A7RII coming out, I highly doubt that.
What you say does seems likely.
The BSI sensor is capable of very high resolution, probably over 200mp.
42mp is really at the very low end of what this sensor is capable of and I expect we will soon see higher resolution versions of this sensor
I don’t think they will release the a7000 before the a7rII because they probably don’t want to steal the lights from that camera, everyone is excited for the a7rII I don’t think Sony will ruin the hype by releasing the a7000. I can be wrong though !
The A7RII is so amazing nothing can ever take the spotlight away from it
A7RII feature set reads like a love letter to photographers and gear heads. For the competition- it’s pure calculated destruction.
I don’t think IBIS is going to happen with the APS-c bodies – unless they’re going to fatten it up to A7II size and create a direct competitor to its FF cameras, something Sony has really avoided in the past. The Nex 7 was too good, arguably the best camera Sony made when it was released. They’ve shown APS-c is more entry level/consumer in presentations, IBIS and these bloated wishlists would position it above everything but the forthcoming A7rII. That’s not going to happen.
I do think 4k internal, improved AF, better EVF and more controls are likely. IMO Sony’s strategy is to force you to buy FF and its more expensive lenses if you want IBIS. With 8 more lenses coming by the end of the year – the focus is clearly on pushing FF as much as possible to grow its user base.
Prepare to be disappointed.
Most people here thought, A7Rii has same improvements over A7R than A7ii had over A7. I already predicted that the improvements in the R-line are bigger because the there was a bigger gap in the release-time. And I was right. (Unfortunately the price-tag is way bigger, too)
I expect the same will happen with A7000/A6X00 – there is already plenty of time passed since A6000 release and there is Samsung competing in the same segment. I expect therefore some significant improvements in the APS-C lineup. And I expect IBIS, too. This some more mm in body-thickness does not worry me at all. Main issue is, it gets no viewfinder-hump: that would be a real deal in terms of body-size.
>Prepare to be disappointed.
Yes I am! The less I expect the less I am disappointed 🙂
I hope we see more, I have the A5100 and I would like to have a smaller 4k capable camera to compliment my A7s and A7rII when its available. As others have pointed out, with FF now in the sub $1000 realm, a loaded APS-c camera will probably be more expensive than the A7. I don’t think Sony is going to let APS-c overlap with FF.
> I don’t think Sony is going to let APS-c overlap with FF.
me too.
But the big question here is if we are talking about street prices or MSRP. And I strongly guess it’s MSRP because Sony cannot control the street-price. Just imagine A7 falls under $600 within 3 years!
I don’t thin the A7000 will be replaced by any hypothetic A6xx.
Is impossible that the A6xx will overcome any A7000.
For now can appear that the A6xx will be over A7xx, BUT this A7000 will be launched soon or late.
I expect a7000. This means IBIS, bulk, better viewfinder, better iso, AF, 4k, and, who knows, maybe OSPDAF from a7r2. All for about $900-$1000. IBIS and size would thus be the main distinction between a6000 and a7000 lines. In that way, we would have the slimmest a5xxx, fatter a6xxx with evf and finally the complete camera – fat a7xxx
With the Rx1004 now hitting $1000, no way a larger sensor camera with IBIS sells for less. That would be just below the A7II and possibly more with the inclusion of 4k.
I’d love to see it, but I seriously doubt I will.
Well, I ‘m thinking about slightly updated a6000 with IBIS. Since a6000 was $650 at launch, I think $950 +/-$50 is OK price
They’re moving to BSI, add in everything else and it gets pricey.
Adding IBIS does not necessarily bloat a 1.5x sensor body to the size of a FX sensor; where did that notion come from?
Yes, it could make its slightly bigger, but at most it will make it a few mm deeper, nothing else.
IMO Sony needs to realize that full-frame is not the format of the masses, but the masses still want high-end, full-featured cameras.
Was I the only one expecting a RX1/RX1R replacement? I feel a bit disappointed. However, the A7r II looks really promising though.
In my wishlist to the A7xxx is the same image stabilisher, one better ISO range and the same eletronical visor.
The rest will be welcome in any way.
In the leaked roadmap, it says “new a6000 series”, not a7000. And anything significantly higher priced than a6000 will be a hard sale, given than A7 is $950 already. a6100 is likely though.
Iew 2,359,296 pixel viewfinder panel is likely, newer processor with better/faster AF able to AF DSLR lenses, 4k from middle crop… something like that.
Or maybe they will surprise with weather-sealed body and IBIS. That would be something, given no weather-sealed APS-C A-mount lenses (and no plan to release any APS-C E-mount lenses in the next year – see Sony announcement). 🙂
– Improved ISO noise performance and DR; don’t care much about resolution
– IBIS
– New OSPDAF system with cross type points and -4 to 20 EV sensitivity
– fully articulated touch screen
– electronic shutter
– 4K
– Good quality Slowmo 1080p
– 0,78x EVF
– Built in GPS
– Olympus-like Live Bulb
– high resolution mode
– fast continuous shooting
weaker AA filter would be nice, or better yet, AA filter cancellation like 5DsR .
AA filter cancellation? Party like its 2012, baby! The Nikon D800 + D800e already tried that, and we wound up with the D810. The A7R and A7R mk2 didn’t even bother with two options either, they just went straight to AA-less entirely.
I don’t know what Canon thinks they’re doing with going the “oldschool” route, but I guarantee you the 5Ds mk2 will go the D810 route, and we’ll all look back at the 5Ds and roll our eyes.
If anything, the hot technology is in Pentax, with their in-camera AA simulation. That way you don’t have to decide between two different yet practically identical cameras, you can have peak acuity all the time, and only worry about turning on your AA filter when you encounter an extra starchy suit or something. 😉
AA filter cancellation was the stupidest idea ever when you can just take out the AA filter completely.
Interesting comparison of A6000 +10-18/4 to A7 +16-35 /4 by verybiglobo. Pretty much the same results trading ISO for size and weight.
just sold my A6000 in anticipation, and because I never loved it.
Why, was something wrong with it? Or there was no chemistry?
Something doesnt have be wrong for it not to be right. Its a good thing he set her free… Someone else will love her…
I wanna touch screen and no AA filter, IBIS will be great too… But most of all I want it right now. I sold my camera 3 month ago and still wait A6xxx/A7xxx.
I have a feeling it won’t have IBIS. I 100% expect 4K though and a higher res viewfinder and touchscreen, level gauge. This will be competing with NX500, X-T10, G7.
yeah, ibis … it would be great, but it’s really just not sony’s thing. the em5II is awesome, but i feel like 4K will become relevant soon …
Hagstigonal reversible stabilisation in and around the camera, switchable electronic-range- optical viewfinder with holographic projection into back of the head, 7 billions HDAF points on sensor with thermal vision and focusing ability down to -87 degrees celsius, 5 axis rotatable touch screen with corning godzilla glass shatterproof and bulletproof, 1 megapixel large format with clean 9333667 iso, astral projectable hotshoe for using flashes on and off the camera in the same time, 128 mbit decompressed RAW, composite low/high carbon steel Masamune weatherproof body with 90mm anti personnel guns with subject tracking. And a mini hdmi port.
Sony should release this camera as a high end aps-c for sports photography, fast AF, weather sealing, IBIS, and better ISO performance than the a6000.
Meanwhile, i expect them to release a camera that’s mainly dedicated to video as the a7s is, but in an aps-c sensor (sub 800$ body only). And this camera should have low resolution but exceptional ISO performance, 4k internal recording with full pixel readout, xavc-s, pro gamma profiles, at least 3 axis IBIS, 120fps @ 1080p, and a very good extra would be to have a 2x crop mode (just like the full frame cameras have an aps-c mode). If they release such a camera they will totally own the mid end filmmaker market. I would buy such a camera in a blink of an eye.
IBIS, Even Faster AF, Tad Better High ISO and Touch screen = Perfect for me
Unfortunately, my dream A7000 is probably not very much in line with what many folks want. The A6000 turned out to be a high-speed sports camera, with its FPS and AF, and that’s fine and dandy. Maybe if they’re diverging these two models, an A6000 mk2 is not out of the question.
However, what I would like to see an A7000 represent is of course, as a landscape and astro-landscape photographer, …a miniature A7R mk2.
Above all else, I value robust build quality, including both weather sealing and general ruggedness, and it seems that the A7R mk2 is proving that in order to do this with a full-frame sensor, you have to sacrifice much of the size, weight, and affordability advantages that mirrorless systems previously bragged about. A $3200 A7R mk2 and a Zeiss $1600 35 1.4 is, lo and behold, actually more expensive than a Nikon D810 with a Nikon 35 1.4, and only a few ounces lighter. (I’d probably need to carry around just as many extra ounces worth of batteries, LOL.)
So clearly, weight and price are no longer concerns of Sony in their FE department. Which is what I’ve been saying all along- if you really want to save weight or money, sensor size is a FAR greater way to do that, than whether or not your camera has a silly mirror.
So, Sony, give us a “mini A7R mk2” and do it for under $1500, or at least compete with the 7D mk2 / D7200 price.
IBIS and 4K video would be great, of course, but as a landscape and astro-landscape shooter, physically speaking all I want is weather sealing and a decently robust body with an improved overall interface.
Mainly however, I’m hoping that they get as much image quality out of their sensor as possible. The A6000 sensor has fallen a bit behind the latest Nikon 24 MP DX sensors, with the Nikon D7200 being truly incredible in that (allegedly, on paper) its dynamic range surpasses even the Nikon D750!
If they make the A7000 sensor BSI, I bet they could approach / beat both the DR and high ISO performance of some of the previous full-frame 24 MP sensors. Oh, and take out the AA filter, instead of adding megapixels. Thank you!
1) DSLR sized Body, with a number of customizable buttons similar to A77II
2) Full Sensor readout in 1080p video. Binning is OK, but no Line skipping. 4k with full readout would be a nice to have.
3) AF A-Mount through EA1/EA3, they way A7rII does it
4) 5-Axis IBIS.
5) Close to DSLR level AF performance in mediocre/low light.
This set of features might just be enough for me to consider E-Mount.
Why do you want an a6000 blown up to DSLR size? The small size was the reason I bought an a6000 and left my DSLR at home.
The pitiful battery life, poor ergonomic grip and awful AF at low light, is the reason I DON’T buy the A6000.
Also no 50mbps XAVC Video, because the tiny body will overheat in less than 5mins and it will need 10 spare batteries a day.
Unless they can make the 70-200 F2.8 lens or GN60 Flash small,
there is no reason to use tiny camera with large lens.
“people who only use kit lens, pop-up flash & small aperture prime.” are 90% of DSLR users.
Don’t you think people other than hardcore photographers need good cameras too?
Also, blowing up camera size won’t make AF any better.
Of course it makes sense to have a big camera for big lenses and small camera for small lenses, but not all people can afford two ILCs.
And A6000 isn’t “tiny”, there are dozens of lenses smaller that it.
Samsung NX 30/2 is a very nice lens… 85 grams — now that’s tiny… I’d want a simiarly-sized body to use it with.
“Big camera for Big lenses and Small camera for Small lenses”
That is exactly my point. ~~! 🙂
I am not telling Sony stop making small camera.
I am just replying “JIMH” that someone with big lens would want a bigger camera.
..
During normal event, I use 70-200 F2.8 70% of time.
but I also have Ricoh GR for trip, it is the smallest APSC camera build in high quality prime lens which can fit into any jean pocket.
Ricoh GR — the lens may be good, but it’s not like cropping can replace zoom; old 16 mp sensor, no EVF, no stabilization, fixed lens, fixed screen and even x-sync is 1/400 despite it’s leaf shutter…. all for price of A6000 or new RX100M3… No thanks.
Sony doesn’t seem to like multiplying number of camera bodies in APS-C anymore. They can’t make 100 cameras to suit everyone’s needs.
and BTW, 70-200 is a FF lens why would one need a APS-C camera to use it on? A9rm2 has 42 mp already.
Agree, it is a old camera, I get the Ricoh GR before A6000 launch.
I use DSLR 99.9% of time, so not hurry to get upgrade 🙂
But I guess many people agree that the 16mp Sony sensor are not bad at all. 🙂
Yes, the lens is sharp, according to DXO it resolve 13Mpix on GR.
Just for comparison,
Sony 20mm F2.8 resolve 9Mpix on A6000.
Sony 35mm F2.8 ZA resolve 11Mpix on A6000
Sony 24mm F1.8 ZA resolve 13Mpix on A6000
The Full metal body is also a plus. 🙂
http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/japan/products/gr/feature/img/bod_img_02_01.jpg
tiny bit sharper, but… because it’a prime, cropping immediately makes situation worse over zoomsoh course 16 mp sensor not bad at all. as was 6 mp ccd sensor in a100/d40
Just buy a DSLR then. We on the other hand want a small camera
All I want is the feature to use canon lenses with the lae3 adapter & ibis. Before I knew anything about cameras it was my dream to just have one body that could use any lens I wanted. I don’t like anything about canon except some of the lenses and the flash system.
Put the features of the a7rii in a rangefinder body (bsi, ibis, phase detection with 3rd party lenses, etc.). Add a fully articulated LCD.
I guess no A99xx then???
A6000 style with IBIS, weather sealing and 4k -faster, better sensor, better LCD and EVF, letter mount and min shutter speed please. Oh and focus with Canon lenses as Sony don’t make APSC lenses any more just monster FF ones
Along with a higher end build quality to it, I’d really like to see it change to a 3:2 ratio screen rather than the 16:9 one…even if it means an overall larger camera… perhaps with added battery capacity.
4k internal video and PDAF with adapted lenses.
yeah, IBIS would be nice, too. but IBIS or 4K is definitely coming.
– GPS
– Touchscreen
– Weathersealing
My wish list for the A7000 is that its not a A7000, And its an A-1 Full Frame Alpha Mount.
Rumors aside, I would like to see better intelligence! The A7000 or whatever it will be called has been a bad tease for the past six months. Let’s have some real insight.
aps-c is dead :))
telephotos for aps-c won’t be much smaller than FF ones
Yes they are. Compare 18-200mm apsc vs 24-240 FE.
240 is longer than 200. and 24-240 provides wider angle of view than 18-200
The Apsc 18-200mm is a 27-300mm FF equivalent so it has a bigger reach on apsc sensor than the FE24-240 on FF sensor although that starts slightly wider.
It is much bigger than the apsc lens. If it had a 300mm reach it would be even bigger.
I just want an a6000 with IBIS and 4K.
high resolution mode is pretty unnecessary with 24MP … but articulated screen? yes. hell yes.
4K is pretty expected, so is electronic shutter.
IBIS would be great, but I doubt they’re gonna do it. The ISO performance is already stellar, so I guess it’s tolerable.
burst rates are already superb – but higher video frame rates would be great (and can’t be that hard). Have you seen what they are doing with one of their new cameras 960fps or something in a bridge camera? then they can do it in their new high-end model, too.
http://www.technobuffalo.com/2015/06/10/sony-rx100-iv-announced-4k-video-960fps-slow-motion-and-more/
see? *and this is a point and shoot. *
so please sony, please put this into the a7000 [or a6100].
#1 – Touch-screen, touch-screen, touch-screen, touch-screen, touch-screen! Especially considering that pretty much everybody talks about how unwieldy it is to change your focus point by having to cycle through menus and then with the direction keys. Touch-to-focus, touch-shutter… and the more focus points you want to throw on the sensor, the more vital this becomes as trying to scroll through focus points/areas becomes more and more tedious.
#2 – 5-axis IBIS, both for stills and video. They obviously have the technology from Olympus, so there’s no problem using it. Apparently a slight disadvantage (possibly due to sensor size difference vs M43), but even with that, it’s still at least 2+ stops outperforming ANY optical stabilization I’ve seen even for telephoto.
#3 – Weather sealing. Again, nothing can touch Olympus on this, but anything is better than nothing, and it’s not as if they can’t do it. It’s fine with me if these sorts of things add to the weight/heft of the camera. I’d rather have that stuff serve a purpose. I’d like to be able to take the darn thing anywhere.
#4 – More physical control dials. I just can’t stand that we only have one real control dial and that one rear dial. Especially important for manual mode. Having to go through menus just to select that you want the rear dial to control something is a terrible UI. Just put two more dials on, and the workflow is 3x faster and easier and more consistent.
Would-be-nice, but not super critical to me
#1 – 4k video internally. Very possible, just from a market-significance standpoint. Personally, I’m okay with 1080p at 24/30/60fps with a good codec for the vast majority of things
#2a – PDAF with 3rd-party lenses using electronic adapters. Proven a distinct possibility already with the A7Rii, so totally worthwhile since it would be the only camera in this price range ever to offer anything like that.
#2b – related to this is smarter AF more so than faster. I’d rather have 10 fps with 60% on the mark focus than 15 fps with 20% keepers. Again, I think the A77ii showed promise that they had some better ideas on this, and hopefully that has evolved with the A7Rii (no real evidence on this yet, though), so it’s a possibility, but extremely unlikely simply because claiming to have the “fastest” sells more cameras than claiming to have the “smartest.”
#3 – A goddamned microphone-in jack! This isn’t difficult! Shoot yourself in the mouth before you ever tell me that this is difficult.
#4 – Make more of your goddamned apps standard features (or at least free apps), for crying out loud! Feel free to charge minor fees for the stuff that only millennial hipsters would live for like all the gimmicky and social-media-oriented stuff (you’ll make money even at $1 simply because there’s so many people into that crap), but things that are more real photography-oriented like intervalometers shouldn’t be.
All said, though, I can crow all I like, but I don’t think this one has any chance of ever happening at any point.
#5a – An eyecup that friggin’ stays on! Lots of cameras have this issue, not just Sony, but it seems like such a silly thing to have to specifically ask for.
#5b – related to this is that diopter wheel… it’s too friggin’ tiny to move unless you ask a small child to adjust it for you.
#6 – A USB 3.1 Type-C connector. This has absolutely zero chance of happening, but would be awesome. USB 3.1 is twice the speed of 3.0 and more than 20x the speed of 2.0, which is huge for transferring big files (provided you’ve also got a PC that is up to that spec), but the bigger advantage of the Type-C connector is power delivery. 3.0 only goes up to 9 watts on the micro-size connector, IIRC, while the Type-C cables can deliver the full 100W in the spec. That’s enough power to operate the camera plugged in and charge at the same time.
touch:
yeah. not _that_ important … but nice, and simple to implement.
IBIS:
they do NOT have the tech from olympus. it’s totally different (and apparently not as good). but since it is very likely that they will add 4K, sensor overheating might become critical again. also, someone further down has mentioned the political aspects of it (sony trying to move people to FF). s much as i’d like it, i don’t see it as very likely.
sealing:
as far as i know, sony’s cameras are quite decently sealed. it might not be a selling point, but i heard they were pretty weather resistant.
controls:
yeah. it might become a little cluttered, though …
4K:
very important for me. framerated though, that’s going to be interesting. if you can do four times the resolution of 1080p at 30fps, doing four times the frame rate should not be a problem … see what sony has done with the RX100 IV! up to 960fps!
USB-C:
that would be awesome. yes, it would. just like you I’m a huge USB-C fan. i’m only not buying the HP Spectre x360 because it doesn’t have USB-C yet. My next phone is going to have USB-C as a standard connector. The next USB stick I will buy is going to be USB-C.
On a camera it would be great and a cool distinguishing feature. But it actually isn’t *that* important to me.
touch – Well, as far as importance, I think when you have more and more focus points to deal with, it becomes more important. You can maybe get a pass with a better UI for handling that cycling through focus points, but it isn’t possible even in principle to outdo a single touch. Sony implements it on their smartphone remote apps, IIRC, so it’s not like they don’t know how to do it.
I’m less concerned with touch in the menus so much as just that one thing, though. I’ve played around with the A77ii and found it rather annoyingly tedious to move around just 79 AF points in single-point mode… I can’t even begin to think how annoying it will be with 399.
IBIS – when I look at the implementation, at least on the mechanical side of things (which is more or less a series of damped linear induction “motors”), it looks the same as Olympus’ rig. I would have figured they’d get more than just a few things out their deal with Oly. I can believe their algorithms aren’t equivalent or might be less precise, though. Still, the A7Rii is rated supposedly at 4+ stops of stabilization, which is more than good enough. So, whatever.
Sealing – AFAIK, the A6000 isn’t one of them. It’s decent build quality, which is about the limit of its “sealing”… The A7 series are all well-sealed, AFAIK, as are many of the A-mount cameras, but the APS-C E-mount doesn’t seem to have any such benefit.
Controls – True. The EM5ii definitely has that issue until you throw on that battery grip kit with the additional dial. It does add to the size of the camera, but then, if you look at the EM1 which has that size grip to begin with, it’s actually still pretty small in spite of it.
4k – I totally get the future-proofing thing. That’s probably the extent to which I personally care about 4k. May not mean much to me now, but sometime down the line, and by the time it does, I think 4k would become so mainstream that you could get it in just about anything.
The framerates thing is pretty cool. Having that DRAM buffer attached to the sensor is pretty huge because it means you have a way of doing the sensor readout so fast that the only practical limits are processor power and shutter speed. Granted, processing power is probably the only reason why there’s no 8000 fps on the RX10ii/RX100iv — having a chip powerful enough to do that is easy, but not so easy is having a chip that powerful that doesn’t draw so much power that it drains the battery in a half hour.
Still, like you alluded to, there’s that whole market segmentation bollocks that ends up removing features from the higher end that exist in the lower end for non-customer-facing purposes and/or unwarranted philosophies. At least Sony is a less serious offender than Nikon or Canon… or Canon… or especially Canon. I think I forgot to mention Canon.
Touch screen is the #1 feature that I require from a Sony camera to replace my Nex 5N. Touch focus and touch review (to verify an image is in focus and not blurry) is an absolute must for my job.
IBIS…. thats it…..
Wireless Flash control from pop up flash!!
