    1. Actual price, weight, number of elements, af speed, manual focus ability, availability dates, hoods and accessories… in fact there is little that we DO know.

    2. This is the downfall of having a good source for rumors. Once they’re found to be correct, it’s instantly old news. While most appreciate the thrill of chasing rumors, there are people out there who also like to have them confirmed.

      1. Physics? Are you implying that Sony has already reached the maximum in technology to achieve small lenses in the year 2015? So we won’t be seeing any smaller lenses in the future? Forever? Damn, well time to sell my Sony gear and jump to Fujifilm.

          1. Anyone saying “it’s physics” is a cop out. Sony will make smaller lenses in the future. Different materials, new technologies etc.

          2. Yes, that is why lenses have gotten smaller over the last century with all their newfangled technology 😉

        1. Aperture is fixed, add material thickness + motor + VR (if there). Equivalent lenses are of equivalent size and weight. Compare a Fuji 56/1.2 with a Nikon 85/1.8G, for example, or a 50-140/2.8 with a Nikon or Sony 70-200/f4.

          1. oh Gayvin- you do like Sony capturing you getting it up the butt from your bf – vivid quality huh skin flute master

      2. Film>Digital (for small, high quality lenses).

The issue is that Sony has a super-thick glass protecting the sensor. Once organic sensor designs are available, we’ll be able to see some small high-quality wide lenses again. The curved sensor will be even better.

  1. With lenses like the optically excellent Sigma 35mm /1.4 for roughly half the price, or the very compact AND stabilized Canon 35mm f/2.0 that I can actually use for video as well, there´s no chance in hell I´m buying this overpriced, non-stabilized mammoth for my street shooting.

If Sony could make a very good AND tiny 35mm f/2.0 for its rx1, why this luxurious POS that completely negates Sony´s FF size advantage??

    1. direct access to PDF to be able to zoom and see how big are the stands

A video of a Exhibitiion stand opposite to Sony one and which show already how big they are and prove Sony has enough space to show all its camera since they started to manufacture some :p..

So Sony don ‘t try to f* our brains with just a presentation of lenses.

  2. This just in, the official ranking of current digital camera systems (except medium format):

    1. Canon EF/EF-S
    2. Olympus/Panasonic m4/3
    3. Samsung NX
    4. Canon EF-M
    5. Nikon F
    6. Fujifilm X
    7. Leica M
    8. Leica T
    9. Pentax K
    10. Sony E/FE
    11. Sony A
    12. Nikon 1
    13. Sigma SA
    14. Pentax Q

Note that the ranking is not based on sales, or the number of camera bodies and lenses in each system, or technical aspects like sensor size. It’s purely based on the overall goodness factor of each system, and that is what we care most about, isn’t it?

    1. I agree about the three at the bottom, because they are all technically challenged in some way. Nikon 1 and Pentax Q have significantly smaller sensors, and Sigma use a very specialized sensor technology.

      1. No contradiction at all. I explained that my list was not based on sales, so market share has nothing to do with my ranking.

      2. Those links are about the entire camera market, including compacts. The OP was talking about system cameras, which is only one third of the total market.

    2. What a joke! Official by what organisation?!?

The only objective ranking you can make is the free market, sales and market share.
And the market is slowly, but surely, abandoning DSLR and migrating to mirror-less cameras.

      1. “And the market is slowly, but surely, abandoning DSLR and migrating to mirror-less cameras.”

Not really. If you look at CIPA’s shipment data since 2012 (when system camera sales peaked), then you will see that DSLRs are indeed on the decline, but mirrorless cameras are almost flat, with a very small increase. In other words, the volume that DSLRs have lost haven’t resulted in a comparable gain for mirrorless cameras. So more people are abandoning the camera market completely, than those who replace their DSLR with a mirrorless camera.

        1. This is exactly supporting my point, mirror-less cameras increasing their market share, at the expense of DSLRs in the system camera market, which is what the above ‘ranking’ is supposed to cover and this is why it is completely unrealistic.

However, in a wider imaging device market, the dedicated cameras are losing share to mobile phones.
Although if we have to be completely fair mobile phone cameras are mirror-less cameras, just not system cameras. For example phones like the Panasonic CM1 with Sony 1″ sensor are blurring the borders between cameras and phones.

          1. My ranking has nothing to do with market shares, and I made no claims of objectivity. So your criticism misses the mark completely. I only evaluated the goodness factor, which is highly subjective.

The ranking is however official, because by posting it in a public forum, I have made it official.

          2. No, I didn’t miss the mark at all, I said your ranking is a joke, and this a very accurate description because you have ZERO weight as a capacity in camera systems, especially since you didn’t even bother to make an account here and post as a guest!
Also any self respecting ranking would at least include several, presumably objective, factors to mark the entries and then produce the ranking.

However, on a second thought, I should have called your ranking provocation or trolling, because of the forum it is posted on.

          3. But you did miss the mark, when you said “The only objective ranking you can make…”.
I made no claims of objectivity, therefore you can’t use my lack of objectivity as an argument against me. I presented a highly subjective list, to let the world know how I feel about the different camera systems. In that sense it is official, since my opinions are now out in the open.

Also, ‘Camera market researcher’ is not a description of my capacity as anything, it’s just a user name that I happen to like.

Frankly, I don’t understand why you get so wound up and act so aggressively, just because someone expressed an opinion.

    3. “overall goodness” right, talk about made up BS. These jealous fanboys are really desperate for validation because Sony is mopping the floor with the competition. This $hit if reall funny. 🙂

    4. It’s pretty depressing that so many people here are so focussed on brand loyalty rage they’ve completely missed the joke.

  3. That 90mm macro is really quite beautiful with its old-fashioned styling and focus scale paint. A little pricey, but it’s nice. I’m so glad to see proper manual focus.

  4. Honestly, just use whatever you like, no one is forcing you. I don’t want the camera world to turn into the android ios bullshit. After all is personal preference. Period. PS. The 35 f1.4, please be kind to my wallet so we can travel together. And does anybody know if they are weather sealed?
