  1. I already bought, received, and sent back the QX100. Why? Mainly because of the sofware, at least in the iOS version. Very limited, zooming is quite impossible on the screen, disconnect from the lens every two minutes (I have an iPhone 4S, maybe that’s diffrent with newer models). I planned to use it in hand for candid shots, but again its quite BIG… I feel more comfortable with the RX100II.

  2. QX100 ran out of stock on Amazon from all sellers. One seller left that claims items will be released on Oct 15 (probably typo)

  3. i also bought and received today … realy the iOS version from sony is a big disappointment: the app crashes three time. On iPhone 4 the lags a huge… o.k. this is a bit old phone, but allso on iPhone 5 and iPad 3. generation the software not going seamless. I will still keep the cam, while the concept is great and I hope for the software updates.

  4. Well, I got my QX10 form SonyStyle today, and am running the App on 4S with iOS7 – works well. Yup, very limited. If I were Sony, I would offer a $ version that has “Pro” features, like ISO, HDR, etc.. Charge $10, software development pays for itself. But since the QX100 is no-RAW, and since I suspected the App would be underwhelming, I went with the QX10. Pretty sure this is the right choice.

The whole thing is brilliant. Definitely works better than Eye-fi Mobi – and I’m a big Eye-Fi fan. Just saying I think this is the current future of photography – but I want the F1.4 fixed-lens module! Should be way cheaper for Sony to make.

Note: the thing the app is missing most is access to the phone’s “flash”. This is a must for future development, I think.

    1. Right… give me an Alpha mount module that can process raw and accept smart lighting kit and I’m all over it. That would actually be cheaper to produce than the current incarnation that includes the lens. Make me a full frame version to mount my Alpha glass.

      1. Well, I wouldn’t think it necessary to explain, but the meaning is: small (thin), and much better in low light than the F3.3 of the QX10. Simple, no? By the way, it could be much faster than F1.4 on a sensor of this size (think Nikon 1 system, bigger sensor, much faster lenses), but small and cheap really wins here, so f1.4 is likely a good compromise (but is just a guess).

  5. I think this will definitely sell..initially as a novelty..but more usage could be acquired…when Sony improves the usability of the apps.

Heck cant Sony charge $10 more in the purchase of QX cams…and give the advanced apps free ? Sony is really poor in the software / lens….only good in electronics.

  6. Got my QX-10 today. Impressed with it’s low light stacking (6 shots?). Not impresses with the apps on either android nor iOS. Will take some practice to get good with this. Macro looks promising. I ordered a jellyfish micro tripod/ball-head for some flexibility and low POV Shots. A small gorilla pod could come in handy too.

  7. These qx lenses are a interesting idea. I like the fact that you get more control when shooting with your cellphone. But I dislike the fact the fact that these lenses have lost alot of the controls of the actual cameras. I also hate the form factor of these lenses as they are really awkward. My RX100M2 fits in my pocket perfectly. I have heard that the QX100 will not fit in to your pocket. Also you lose all of the manual controls on the QX100. Plus there is no raw shooting for people who shoot raw. There is no flash Built into the lense. The QX100 is limited to shooting at 1 FPS. Where as with the RX100M2 it shoots at 10fps. Also you lose the Electronic Viewfinder. About the qx10 it is more compact than the qx100 but you lose your flash on that one and you lose the electronic viewfinder. You also have to be connected to wifi when ever you want to use the camera. I think once they add built in flash these lenses will be better suited for photography. Also I think they need to make the QX100 much more compact. I think it was a good effort by sony but I think it needs to be improved at $99 the qx10 would be an amazing deal but at 249 you could get your hands on a hx30v. As far as the QX100 goes you can get a S0NY A3000 For the cost of that lense. I think the QX100 should be about $199.99-249.99 at the most.Since it is so watered down compared to the rx100m2.

  8. I’m having trouble wrapping my head around Amazon’s choice to treat the QX10 and QX100 as different lens camera “styles,” rather than two completely different lens cameras. The reviews are combined, so the total review score is an average of all the reviews of both lens cameras!

This can’t be good for Sony… you don’t want people in the market for a $500, high-quality option reading reviews that say the photos aren’t much better than off a phone camera, and not realizing those reviews are for a completely different lens camera! Likewise, you want people in the market for a $300 option to be only reading reviews from people who bought the $300 option and had expectations set accordingly.

I understand they do this with, say, tablets that come in different memory capacities, but that’s a much more subtle distinction… here we’re talking about a camera that’s JUST a lens and a sensor, AND THE LENS AND SENSOR ARE BOTH COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!

People would think Amazon was crazy if they lumped the reviews and product pages for the iPhone 5c in with those for the 5s… yet I’d argue this is even worse.
