As you know tomorrow Sony will release the new Sony NEX-3/5 firmware update. And there is already a user in Thailand that had the chance to download it and try it. Check here at Fotorelax Forum.

To be honest i expected more from fw v2, this instead more like v1.2. I mean who needs theese posteffects if they shoot raw? I wanted more presets for iso, shutter speed and auto rotate pictures by using internal level or whatever it calls.
I agree. The effects stink. If they actually looked good, and not like cheap effects you could do on your iPhone 3 years ago, then they might be fun for about an hour. We need more important stuff taken care of. Personally, I want to see the option to shut off noise reduction all together. And a fix for flash sync.
Perhaps it’s not important to you, but peaking for MF makes this a good release for me. And who knows what other tiny improvements Sony didn’t tell us about.
True. The peaking is also something I’m interested in. Well, I guess my only gripe is the effects. Just seems like theyre more for the lower end P&S models.

Therearetons of other features to crave. I do feel nex is much better after the 3 updates.

Well, Stewe, I’d noticed some sort of arrogance writing into a thread about the NEX-3/5 Firmware Update that you don’t care about that, since you’re into something else.
BTW I’m not interested in the effects either, only in focus peaking, but I won’t waste my time complaining about the additional options even if they are possibly boring effects.
Anyway, I wish you at least something to enjoy tomorrow…

There’s no firmware update on the Japanese site yet, and it’s way past midnight there. I guess we’ll need to wait until somebody comes to work and pushes the “update” button.

It also adds the Aplha logo when turning off. I think that adds a bit more of Alpha taste that NEX is missing 🙂
Yeah, I do like these details, but the alpha logo should be the boot screen.

Yes, I agree with you, but the startup is different. The delay is for hardware reasons, you just can’t start the whole system in less time, and that incudes the LCD screen. So the only way to include the logo would be adding one more second of waiting..

30fps is much better for fast moving subjects (20% increase in framerate).
Some will say 25fps is better because it’s closer to the 24p “Cinema look”.
But that doesn’t work with the NEX since we can not set the shutter speed.
And if we can’t set the shutter speed to 1/24sec, then we don’t have the motion blur required to get that smooth cinema look.
So, sadly, Europeans can’t have neither the “fast moving subjects” or the “cinema look”…

They announced June 20th, but we didn’t read the fine print: gotta be June 20th everywhere. Including Mars. Otherwise, Sony would be releasing updates early, which would be very bad.
When is the damn thing coming ? Its near mid-day in Japan. Why doesnt someone hack sony once again and post the firmware ? Bad joke – sorry, but waiting like a kid for candy here.

Peaking MODE IS AWESOME … Works while doing Video too. The alpha Logo shows when you turn the camera off
I also love the the peaking! It adds a whole new level of funtionalty to my manual only lenses! I haven’t tried any the new filters yet.
I love the peaking! No need to zoom in to make sure if you are focused on the right part of an object.
Picture effects are good, just can’t get “toy” to do what its supposed to. I’ll experiment more with it later.
Did anyone notice a faster startup? Might be my imagination, but I feel its a bit faster.
