This is the first image of the new Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 Full Frame E-mount “Dark Knight” Pro edition lens. It will soon replace the current “normal” version which is sells for $849 at BHphoto or $899 on [shoplink 27366 ebay]eBay[/shoplink].
As reported before these are the improvements of the new version:
1. Improved lens coating, which makes the lens have better performance
2. Filter thread changed to 67mm from 58mm
3. New bayonet lens hood to prevent light flare and improve “back light “s situation performance.

Just received the PRO version. Love it except for one annoyance: every time you take a picture, the built-in speaker on the lens says loudly “Thank you for buying The Dark Knight Speedmaster Pro lens.” Thankfully, there is a switch on the lens to make the sound lower.
Spoiler alert: Bruce Wayne is the Dark Knight !!!
Next you’ll be telling me that Darth Vader is Luke’s father and Luke’s been shafting his sister.
This lens is a special one.
It is named “The Dark Knight” for a reason:
If you are in trouble, you just direct the lens into the sky and press the shutter two times. Then Batman will appear and rescue you.
🙂
How’s the bokeh of this lens?
It’s dogshit. There are examples on flickr.
Look’s alright:

You’re always going to get clipped bokeh in the corners with this type of lens, and coma is pretty much par for the course, f/0.95 is f/0.95
Looks great here. I gotta point out this is subject up close and background far away and most lenses are ok when you shoot like that. I’ve seen MUCH worse examples, look at this:

Ouch. I guess if you want to blur the background with a more distant subject you can always use a telephoto…
A lens like this 50mm f/0.95 is always going to be for fairly niche uses, available light closeup portraits being the main one.
that’s some ugly looking bokeh… it is harsh looking and it is not as smooth as zeiss lenses
To each their own, I welcome the character, not every lens needs to obliterate the background, and i wouldn’t be using this lens in this situation anyways, more for the portrait above.
Part of being a photographer is choosing what’s in your frame, including the background. That’s pretty much a worst case scenario for a lens. I think just about any medium to wide lens would struggle just as bad with this shot.
the bokeh rendering is inferior compare to zeiss lenses. I’ll stick with my FE 55mm f/1.8 zeiss
Like the taste of Rum is inferior to the taste of Whiskey?
Not inferior at all, just different.
It’s quite nice actually. There are several reviews of this lens that verify that. Steve Hood, 3D-Kraft are two. Aside from it’s unusual name, this is a very high performing f/.95 for a great price. I’m eager to see what else this company releases in the future.
Is this another f0.95 lens that needs stopping down to f4?
Sharpness is a Bourgeois Concept
is that another user only looking for sharpness ?
ROFL
a good photo are depends on content inside more than “sharpness or other tech stuff “
It’s the lens we need, but not the one we deserve right now…
😉
