CP+ camera rumors so far (A7000, A7rII, A3xxx…. and A99II).

Note: Since one year Sony changed the policy on camera announcements. They do not unveil the release date to anyone and only the Japanese headquarters know when a certain product gets announced. I guess all the recent leak and hacking history made them change the procedure on how they announce their products (I mean all their products not only cameras).

What to expect now on CP+:

1) My trusted sources got reliable info about the new A7000 (High End APS-C) the new High megapixel FF E-mount cameras. I also got info from anonymous sources about an entry level APS-C (A3xxx) and a cheap Full Frame E-mount camera (A5?). Months ago I even got info via Tamron sources about a new A-mount Full Frame camera with close to 50MP.

2) There is yet no 100% reliable info on which camera could be announced at CP+. Even my few Japanese sources told me only Japanese Top managers know that. But I am sure that even if Sony surprisingly decided to not announce any new camera at CP+ …we only have to wait 3-5 weeks more to see them released. Juts like the A7II has been announced AFTER Photokina.

My personal bet is the High End Megapixel Sony and maybe also the A7000 will be announced very soon…and I am doing anything to get reliable info about that as soon as I can. Any help is appreciated and you can use that anonymous contact form to send me your “rumors”…Thanks 😉

      1. Yes, but I don`t know how long Sony want support A mount …
        And waiting for E-Mount.
BTW. Why sony don`t make A58 with E-Mount (shape dont matter, but EVF is ok and IBIS)

  1. E-mount reminds me of the Sony strategy with early A-mount. Throw bodies out there and see what sticks. Well, we all know how well that went for A-mount!

      1. E-mount market share is higher than A-mount now, yes, but it isn’t higher than A-mount was before E-mount was created. Sony has kept about the same market share in system cameras, only it’s now based on mirrorless instead of DLSR/SLT.

    1. It will probably be a low-specced ‘bare bones’ body, in order to cut costs so they can sell it cheaply.

    2. It’s Sony – ‘affordable’ is relative and ‘new’ carries a big premium (look at the a5100). My guess is it won’t be much cheaper than the a7 (which will be quietly discontinued)…

  2. The policy change is not good for you, SAR’s main purpose is now somewhere near obsolet…
    Hard times upcomming, i guess.

You mentioned A99II but i cant see any hint in the text.

      1. Maybe! I do think it will be a99II (a-mount) with 50MP Sensor, for all have the a99 and wish to have a “better” sensor and performance!!

        1. I’d put money on the a7rii being a high res monster and the a9 using either a 24mp or updated 36mp sensor… I’d be surprised if the a99ii was 50mp, as Sony targeted it as a ‘1 size fits all’ camera (unless they’re pairing it with some serious processing power and bandwidth or releasing multiple versions).

  3. We apologize, we do continue our tedious campaign reminder.
Lot of us like 14 bit RAW lossless, cRAW adandoned.
    Thanks

  4. Oh dear. Where is the RX2?
36mp, tilt screen, weather sealed, true mechanical f-stop control. That’s it, easy. It would be the take-everywhere camera that would put Leica prices to shame.

  5. I would applaud a pro level A7000 APS-C, but it’s ONLY useful if Sony re-kindle their APS-C E-mount lens development! Fuji and Oly/Pana have lovely range of fast primes and fast zooms to match the smaller formats. Sony seem to have forgotten about E, as opposed to FE lens development.

  6. Sony A7000 YES!!! Goodbye Samsung NX1. You will never see the sun shine on you!

The day will be brighter on Sony Land! The A7000 will be better in every ways than the NX1.

    1. If it improves on the NEX-7 in the same ways that A6000 improved on the NEX-6, i.e. not that dramatically, then the NX1 will probably be better.

      1. Yea cuz one of the fastest auto focus cameras on the planet, rivaling many high end DSLR’s isn’t that dramatic an improvement. That’s brilliant man…what other strokes of genius comments do you have for us this morning? Your obviously well informed…

        1. Some people thing that 1-2 years bring revolution as SNR go up of 3-5EV, new super faster in totally darkness AF etc.

        2. Yes, the A6000 has fast AF, but so has the NX1. And it’s not just about speed, it’s about accuracy too. especially in low light. Anyway, there is more to a camera than AF, and a NEX-7 with fast AF wouldn’t be a huge upgrade to me.

          1. NX1 has shit autofocus in anything but perfect brilliant sunshine. A little dim scene and it hunts like crazy and also inaccurate!

      1. I wouldn’t be surprised if sony was that stupid.
But honestly they have to do it. Otherwise their sensor-devision is admittig defeat to Samsung.

    1. Because some people keep asking me an update on the launch date of those cameras. I had to answer them. Just skip that one post if you dont’ care. I cannot write posts that suite all 100% of my readers 🙂

  7. We need 4k in an APS-C body. Well, I do. Please.

A7000 would be on my buy list if it’s basically a A6000 with 4k, oh and bring back the electronic level gauge – so helpful when shooting video.

  8. “My trusted sources got reliable info about the new A7000 (High End APS-C) the new High megapixel FF E-mount cameras.”
    So what IS that info?

    1. I would prefer one post a week with more substantial info, rather than daily posts saying virtually the same thing as before. We would have fewer comments threads to keep track of too.

      1. Please undertsand that some people doens’t know all and that they keep asking me on CP+ camera launch. So the info here is not about the cameras but about the yet completely unkown launch date.

    2. Well, mister annymous guy….I answer my readers and they asked me about possible launch date. And I wanted to tell them all that for now there is no launch date. You just skip that post if you don’t care about it and respect the fact that you are not the only reader here 🙂

      1. One more thing, This is not a new rumors otherwise I would have marked it with “SRx”. So you misunderstood it 🙂

  9. Maybe we’ll see a camera with a three-layered, organic, photon-counting sensor? This is what is needed to save photography. Sensors aren’t sufficiently good today, because you can still fail to take good pictures.

      1. Why aren’t people just out shooting with their old cameras, then, instead of following rumor sites, hoping for the next big thing?

        1. Because they are stupid, bored with shooting statues or really bad photographers who hope new gear will inspire them or all of the above. Instead they should spend their money on traveling to interesting places and use old gear.

          1. OK. So let’s see a bird in flight, or a footballer scoring a goal, or a closeup of a guitarist in gig or a macro shot of an insect, or a photography of the moon.

The point is not to deny that a good photographer will always take a better picture than a poor one, but that improved equipment opens up more possibilities. We can now do things that Victorian photographers could have never dreamed of. It’s not one thing or the other, it’s both. They are complementary.

          2. My point is to completely deny that good cameras are completely ignored to take good pictures, and I do not deny that photographers are much more important than the cameras. Better cameras will shoot better with good photographers, but not with abysmal photographers.

      2. “Cameras don’t take good pictures… photographers do!”

It is the combination of two – a good photographer and a good camera – that gives you the best result.

    1. 3 words for you dude:
      NON-FREAKIN’-SENSE.
Do you come from the future? Did Sony launched any godlike A-mount body in the future? “Sensors aren’t sufficiently good today, because you can still fail to take good pictures.” Man, you’re talking p00p.

  10. For E mount I totally expect to see new high mp sensor soon..but lenses are a major issue and only the more common and ordinary focal lengths are available..this make the system totally useless for entire classes of photographers that reguire both fast AF AND good lens selection.
The laea4 is a partial solution but needs to bpoe updated to match the highest speeds currently available for slt and slr cameras.
The laea4 adapters need to be made in versions for Canon and Nikon lenses.
Canon dual pixel..acording to Canons own website…will provide continuous high speed autofocus with most EF lenses.
That means WHEN Canon introduces thier ff mirrorless camera..my guess is late 2015 or early 2016..It will be 50mp, dual pixel, fast focus, and fully compatable with current Canon lenses either directly or with a simple extension tube adaptor..
Sony cannot compete against such a system that will be directly competitive and have full use of Canons massive arsenal of lenses.
Canon WILL as they are currently predicting…dominate the mirrorless camera market by 2017.
The rumored 50mp Sony/Canon sensor with dual pixels may be for this camera..
The only way Sony can maintain a reasonable mirrorless market share is by providing Canikon lens compatability …eithr with laea4 like adapter or with differrent af system that does not depend on stepper motors.
And of course this move would be highly desirable and beneficial to consumers.
If Sony is first…as they traditionally have been…to overcome the obstacles and make thier system universal..any lens on any camera..it will be a home run and other manufacturers will have to follow thier example.
As for A mount…Sony lack of a clearly demonstrated..by action not just words…commitment to A mount has crippled consumer confidence in A mont and make 3rd parties reluctant to commit to A mount too.
A mount sales will suffer no matter what Sony offerus next as a result of that.
I find myself unable to purchase the next A mout high mp camera that I really want because the Sigma 150-600 sport will not be made for Sony and there are no other comparable lenses available…mayby an unexpected lens will surface but otherwise I have no choice but to buy the Canon or Nikon.
So here you have long time ..40+ ..year Sony/Minolta users that want to continue to buy Sony and cannot.

    1. A roundup post by SAR, followed by a roundup of Barry’s med-fuelled, rambling, deluded nonsense. Awesome, who needs television?!

          1. In an ideal world you would not be here…but ideal worlds do not exist so you have nothing to worry about.

          2. “but ideal worlds do not exist”
You should heed that thought for your future posts, then you would probably write far less outlandish nonsense.

          1. Not sure?
I don’t know what he does when he is not busy insulting me.
I actually could not decide if Bazzhole or Bazztard sounded better, but I thought Bazzhole was the better choice.

      1. Just want to see what high mp choice Nikon will offer before deciding on Nikon or Canon.
This does not mean that I will never buy a Sony again..but it does mean yhat this purchase will have to be Canikon.
Nor does it mean that I will not continue to use my extensive collection of macro lenses for Sony.

        1. Really? You’re leaving for Canikon? Soon?

Yes there is a god and he answers prayers.

          It’s about time.

          1. You do not read so good.
Besides the fact that my comment already answered your question. .I said I would buy a Canon or Nikon camera…I never said I was leaving.
As for answering your prayers…that is beyond my ability..you give me more credit than I deserve..
Besides..you are not very nice, so if I did have the power to answer your prayers I would not do so.

One more word of advice…next time you pray it would be better to leave out the insults.

  11. As Sony have been so secret with their plans for APSC i got impatient and bought Samsung NX1 so any A7000 will have to wait for me -I hope it is a good 4k camera though! and not too expensive.

      1. Oh man. I really hope you’re right. I invested some serious money in my A-mount glass, and in my country 90% of photographers think that Sony only makes P&S toys – which means that my gear has a very low market value here.

          1. And anyone listening the cr@p you say is a fool. My money, my hobby, my glass. If you dare to write that kind of $hit in a photography forum, you’re nothing but a troll, hiding yourself in a guest nickname and taking a dūmp through the keyboard. Please mr. Füćktard, get lost or die ASAP.

    1. Sony has said again and again and again they are continuing both mounts.
However, since Sony’s future support & development for A-mount is
for professionals, we’re going to see less bodies released on a slower
cycle just like Nikon/Canon do for their professional bodies. However,
this means bigger & better upgrades between bodies.

We shouldn’t expect new full frame A-mount bodies until this fall, but
if they come out earlier, that would be a welcome surprise!

      1. Exactly. Which is why my A mount bodies have lost value at 1/4th the speed of any of my E mount bodies.

  12. Sony needs an inexpensive normal prime for the E-mount. The bodies are priced right – but no one wants to pay $1000 to get a good, fast prime.

    1. Body are too expensive compared for A-Mount.
See the price of A58 it has adventage in EVF, IBIS and it price is 400-500$

    2. Fully agree. The only reason I haven`t switched already and why I might void Sony for a while until that subject is resolved somehow.

      1. Agree. I did not go for Sony because of the one reason: pricely – and a few only – ZA primes. Actually I see only one ZA prime that is interesting – 55/1.8. I do not like 35/2.8 (only f2.8) and new 35/1.4 (monster), so still nothing for me. This brings me to make decission of buying D750, probably. Wait only for Cp* anouncement.

        1. And that’s an issue because Sony already said that they made it f/2.8 because they don’t want to make bigger lenses since the A7 bodies are relatively small.

For video it’s less of an issue since you can use MF lenses with adapters and although I have no experience with the A7 family, with the APS-C E-mount cameras I had, MF on Sony’s lenses are totally crap and that’s an issue that you could had solved very easily with any micro adjustment via firmware. To allow or not acceleration on the barrel or how many turns to complete closest to intinity, etc. That’s quite simple.

          1. >MF on Sony’s lenses are totally crap<

Idiotic statement, obviously your skill-set is limited as the rest of us skilled users have no issue!

          2. Really? Limited skillset to twist a MF lens barrel??? Oh, poor me to not know how to twist a lens barrel like Jenny does. And I’m the one making “idiotic statements”?

Do you even shoot video to understand what I said? Damn Internet, full of these idiots that can’t even understand a comment before clicking reply and spitting nonsense.

I’ll try to help you out though, for video, you need precision to use MF, to be able to do markings for focus but that’s not possible if you can’t have those adjustments in your settings if your only option is a lens barrel by wire that changes distances of the markings depending on the acceleration you turn the barrel. Moreover, a MF that makes you take too much turns to go from infinity to close focus is a pain in the a** to focus during video and it’s no good.

So please, enlighten me with all your almighty fanboy wisdom and explain to me how unreasonable is to ask for these kind of customization if Sony has been quite aggressive lately to push video for its consumers? Please share your unlimited wisdom and teach me the way, show me why is it such an “idiotic statement” because my idiotself can’t grasp to understand such profound knowledge of yours.

          3. You said “video” idiot, not “filmmaking” and narrative “filmmaking has a completely different requirement of equipment. More video is actually shot on cellphones than “filmmaking equipment.”

          4. Hear-hear!!! These guys are running around and talking like they’re friggin’ Fellini or something. This guy from down south is as clueless as he is careless dishing out dodgy advice.

          5. Apart from the fact that they are used on just about every commercially available VIDEO CAMERA……… You confuse video with “filmmaking” as does mr subversive.

        2. I have the 35 2,8 and the 55 1,8 and love them both especially the 35.

Let me first say that I felt the same way as you, ho-hum on the 35 2.8 until i used it. I have a collection of at least 50 lenses across different platforms and if adapters were girlfriends I’d be Hugh Hefner. But I love the Zeiss 35 2,8. First it’s tiny and light as a feather, yet built well. I bought mine from an enthusiast fior 500 clams. The camera almost never comes off the A7s and the images are stunning. If you like shallow DOF you can get that at 2.8.

For those of you declaring that the 35 f1,4 coming out is a beast well look no further than your Canon 35mm f 1.4 L, one of my fave Canon lenses but fairly huge. The Sigma Arts are very big too. So you might want to think twice before you knock the little Zeiss 35mm F2,8m. I really expected not to like it or have a use for it but now it’s “the one”

          1. I believe 35/2.8 ZA is a great lens but I found f/2.8 not that good for indoors and low light shooting which I do most time. In my perspective Sondy made very bad decission bringing small but only f2.8 35mm prime (it’s overprice in my view) and f/1.4 but a monster, both are useless for me though 35mm it’s for most people favorite focal length including me. ZA 35/2 af would be best but no hope it will come any soon. Btw, I found new trend of bringing bigger and bigger lenses for small mirrorless ridiculous.

          2. I agree completely, the a7s & 35/2.8 is a nice tiny, high quality combo that feels liberating when working with full body slrs all day.

      2. Why expect high precision optical equipment to be cheap? I think $1000 is a very reasonable price for a quality lens.

        1. This is the most idiotic and immature answer possible to this issue. You turned a lack of price range options into anto a simpleton-minded “you want high quality lenses to be cheap!”. I don’t mind high-quality optics to be expensive at all and I never said otherwise – although your stupidity doesn’t allow you to see otherwise. I made a simple statement in accord to some others saying that it’s not reasonable to ONLY have $1K options. Please, all other system have more options for consumers – not basically just $1K lenses – it’s quite logical to want more options and there is NOTHING wrong with that, grown up fanboy, more lenses options would be good for you as well.

          1. Please stop feeding the trolls. He laid out a bait, and you swallowed it. Comments like that are never seriously meant.

          2. It’s just a single reply, moreover, I hardly think he is a troll and this type of misinterpretation is just too typical of fanboys and stupid people in general. So don’t compliment him by calling him a troll.

          3. Please explain how this human interaction is done, we need a coach!
So far I have written down:
When someone thinks something is a reasonable price you call him a idiotic immature simpleton, because that is the mature thing to do.

Do not call him a troll, because he / she does not deserve it, stick to calling them fanboy because that settles any argument.

did I miss anything? Perhaps some other tantrum stuff?

          4. B: “I think $1000 is a very reasonable price for a quality lens.”

You: “This is the most idiotic and immature answer possible to this issue.”

I think it is very obvious who should be called immature.

          5. Didn’t I say to you to read again? You failed, try again. No wonder you identified with the guy, but it surprises me because I already clarified his misinterpretation but you, on the other hand, you are still completely clueless – but don’t worry, you are not alone, there are tons of guys like you around the Internet to make you company. But please, don’t bother saying the same thing again, repeating the same mistake again and again won’t really make it right.

          6. Glad you showed him how it’s done. Immature, idiotic and simpleton-minded. Name calling will definitely get you the moral high-ground.

          7. Well, you know what the e-mount system offers right now (and the full frame range is only a year old), no one is forcing it on you. If it does not appeal to you given the options, go aps-c e mount or go a-mount (or Olympus, Fuji, et al.).

You can also purchase great minolta lenses for under $100. For the price of the la-ea4, you can also use all these inexpensive, quality full frame options on an e-mount camera.

          8. You complained that most of the lens offerings for the 1 year old range cost about 1k a piece. That is fair, it is an immature line and not ready for all users. Since it is full frame sony has decided that most of these users (early adopters) would prefer higher end (and higher priced) lenses. Now, if this line up is not for you at this point…stay away.

If you do want to use an FE camera on a budget though, you can use solid minolta full frame lenses on it that cost only $50 to $200 a lens.

          9. I think that the fact it’s one year old has nothing to do with all lenses costing $1k and I didn’t get the “stay away” thing because it’s quite obvious that when something doesn’t suit you, you try something else. It’s wasn’t really a bash, but more like something Sony should work on. I don’t need FF, so I don’t intend to buy it soon, maybe for video, in the future if there is an A9 or maybe an A7s with the 5-axis IBIS and in that case, I wouldn’t care about the lenses so much as I would probably go with adapters. But when I talk about these things I don’t simply put as the center of the Universe and I know that a lot of people would like more options, even if I wouldn’t use it with native lenses.

          10. The point is, right now only early adopters have bought in to this immature line-up. Full frame a-mount is nearly 30 years old. It makes logical sense that the first batch of lenses for a new full frame line-up, with cameras starting at $1500, starts with more premium lenses given the market. That’s the thing about being an early adopter, patience is required for a system to mature and feature a range of options.

          11. You don’t get much really do you! Personally, I don’t get why you show up here when you obviously have no interest in this system……

          12. Actually it’s a factual statement, even third party good quality prime auto focus lenses are around the $1000 dollar mark.

      3. This isn’t some non-profit ecosystem. They try to hook you in with the cheap body but charge out your wallet for their lenses & accessories.

        1. That’s the best you could do? It makes me kind of sad, that’s the kind of response a 5-year old kid would give.

The irony is that if you actually wanted to prove anything, that I’m a noob or something, the best way would be to counter-argument the things I said with facts that proves that point. But as you couldn’t, you came up with these childish responses that are actually a counter-argument for youself. Isn’t that beautiful?

    3. The Minolta AF 50mm f/1.7 goes for 50 bucks on eBay right now. That should leave plenty doghnut for a good a-to-e-mount adapter! That is as inexpensive as it gets. AF 28mm used for APS-C is slightly more expensive. On my Nex-5 a manual focus Nikkor 24mm f/2.0 was my favorite lens for 35mm equivalent range.

  13. Put the Marketing-nonsens “HIGH-END” away and the A7000 will be my next
499,- Body. I hope for deep blody pricewar with Samsung, dont care who winns.
Only my moneybag is master of all… Lenses, = Adapter + many good others.
    ….. deeep and blodyyyyy…
And the megapixxi race is the golden bridge, to bring the good A7000,..not good
enough..that is SONY…but 90% of older Fs-700 would be fine. if not..byby.. soldmy
A57….and so…whre is it the A7000? Hurry Up.

  14. Where is the a99II info in this post? Why is it in the title?

When did any 7 series become “high end”? 9 series barely justify that designation, unless you consider them on the same level of Leica S2 and Phase One.

    1. I would say the 7series is high-end and the upcoming 9series should be called the flagship, just like Canon 5Dx & 1Dx and Nikon 8X0 & DXs

    2. Where did he says the 7 series as unspecific ‘High end’ cameras? We only heard high end APSC here. That’s completely not new as far as I’m concerned.

      1. IF it comes, let’s hope that it shall shatter the skies and ground. IMHO we won’t see any OMFGAGODLIKE A-mount camera in 2015. Sony’s ears are still ringing with the “L’estasi dell’oro” because of the A7x series success. But dreaming is still free right?

    1. Absolutely wrong! If they decide to make it an E-mount camera, then they won’t name it A99II. That would make no sense given Sony’s naming scheme.

    2. Maybe a Native A-mount camera with removable SLT mirror part which left E-mount underneath? (but with restricted FPS, auto focus, etc.)

  15. They should unveil the A99II….and then right at the end lauph at the crowd and be like…”Hahahaha suckers…didn’t think we were coming out with it did you?” 50MP, 15FPS and only the best video codec available.

  16. will the groundhog tell us news of a release date on the 90mmmmacro G or will it be another 6 weeks before we know anything??

  17. With Canon cranking out new flavors of the 5D, Sony updating A glass, Tamron and others making new A glass… I’m really looking forward to the A99M2, it’s inevitable it’ll be out this year. Current body is still my reliable workhorse, despite diving into E mount recently and loving the A7M2. Better AF module, improved buffer, and 2015 era video codec would be on my wishlist. Bring it on!

      1. This is a refreshing bit of logic and positivity in stark contrast to the usual insanity, entitlement and teeth-gnashing around here.

      2. Indeed.. to me, the lenses you can use today with e-Mount are amazing.. 16-35f4 (for landscapes), Loxia 35 f2 (street) and Voightlander 75 f1.8 (portraits) and an A7S wold be my ideal combination (at those focal lengths I don’t mind not having AF at all). Any longer focal length (or large, heavy lenses) would call for the AF from an A99 or A77II depending on your taste.

But that’s just me. I understand some of you have quite different needs.

  18. Cheap = Low Quality in the USA (berato in Spanish). So I’m not surprised that Sony will try to sell a Cheap (muy barato) FF. All joking aside, an inexpensive FF won’t sell to anyone except to poor fanbois. With camera demand going over the cliff …

  19. A7000.

Let’s see if any innovation to attract customers that enjoy the convenience of upload photo from their camera phone. More MP, a little bit better auto focus I am afraid are not enough to attract more buyers that value convenience and “good enough” photo to a A7000.

    1. 16MP with no AA filter is the sweet spot. Just work it to get better low light. Pentax K5IIS was a legend because of this- it was a Sony sensor. Back lit 16MP sensor like the new Samsung and drive that ISO up! 23 is just marketing hype and offers very little for most people.

      1. i am more refer to the interface of the camera. Like it or not most people nowadays take photos and then upload them to social medias like facebook and instagram. These feature imo must be built in to the camera, and the camera should be able to (and easy setup) tether with the cell phone so that it can upload the photo directly from the camera to the internet. Also beside the traditional menu, if an android OS available, so that can use apps to edit and organize photo as well. Just my opinion though. 36MP. 50MP…AA filter or not…probably only less than 1% of customer will care.

          1. it is a such horrible experience to do so on nex 6 without touch screen, and for the market of “advanced users”…well…the sales number say it all. This is how most people use their camera (cell phone) nowadays,

          2. On A7 and A6000 you just need to tap the phone to the side of the camera when in play mode and the picture on the display is transferred automatically. Well you have to wait for some time like 20 to 30 seconds whicih is annoyning but is usable to post to Flickr, FB or G+. I do it quite often.

Today even tried with FB chat and works very well – like two clicks on the heads interface.

          3. In my view now the camera market is like MP3 vs CD/MiniDisc all over again. Customer value convenience over quality. Let’s see how samsung will do with this. Samsung GALAXY Camera is in the right direction but too pricey basically a point and shoot.

          4. Agreed. Sony cams are too built on top of Android. Only thing is Sony need to open it up for developers.

          5. There are some efforts to hack Sony firmware. The software has been decrypted and it contains an Android. Also the Sony camera apps are actually Android apps. The thing is Sony have locked down the Android to only use Song’s app store.

  20. I need an adapter that gives me F stops. I’ve been using a fotodiox for my alpha glass, but it’s just labeled “open-close.” I can’t seem to locate a manual adapter that indicates F stops. Anyone?

    1. I think it can`t be done, because adapter doesnt know which lens you will attach, so f stop scale would be different for different lenses… But why would you need that? I use cheap sturdy fotga for nikon G glass, with EVF i dont have problems with DOF or metering.

      1. I do a lot of comparisons between lenses. I can’t do this since I can’t match up the glass F stop on FE mount anymore. I guess this means I’ll have to buy that LEA4 adapter at some point.

        1. Uh, i thought about that too… But its too big and clunky, somehow destroys the purpose of Emount…

  21. I hope all of this knowledge Sony as gained from FE mount spills over into A mount. I would love a chisseled out A mount body about the size of a D750 or smaller. If anyone can do it it’s Sony. With all that room they’re saving just think of what they could stuff into a bigger (yet still small) A mount body.

    1. A DSLR/SLT should be possible to make a bit smaller than current designs. You can’t make it smaller than the mirror box, of course, but everything around it should be possible to make smaller.

      1. The current A99 is actually a pretty good size. A bit smaller and it would be perfect. I hope they change the design language though. Get rid of the bubble shape.

    2. A-Mount is defined by the lens registration distance. The only thing you can put in that space between the lens and the sensor is a mirror (and shutter). So there’s only so much smaller that an A-Mount camera can be made.

  22. I thought CP+ will focus on lenses for the first time in history….we have plenty of bodies today. A FW update and few more lenses will be nice for change

    1. Lest time i checked, there is nothing hopeless in images you get from A7R or A7S… Elaborate, please.

    2. FF is hopeless in every way. The larger the sensor is, the more diluted the light gets. A smaller sensor concentrates the light on a smaller area, giving much sharper pictures. Thiis is why small sensor systems get away with using less sharp lenses; they don’t need as sharp optics as FF does.

      1. what? This is not true at all. Light does not degrade over such a small distance.

One thing for crop sensor is that it is using the better part of the lens (less soft corners and vignetting) but not what you are saying about light dilution.

        1. It takes more light to illuminate a football field than an A4 size sheet of paper, doesn’t it? I exaggerated the size difference to illustrate the principle, but the same is true when comparing a FF sensor with a crop sensor. The FF sensor needs more light to be illuminated properly.
Sometimes physics can seem unintuitive to some people, but think about it and you’ll eventually understand.

          1. There are multiple factors at play, however. One of them is the size of the lens. FF lenses tend to be larger to allow the light for the proper image circle, while a smaller sensor can have a smaller lens.

A football field uses multiple lights in different directions, which is how one would light a piece of paper.

Also, the pixel count demands a certain lens quality to maximize the sensor’s potential.

          2. A smaller sensor will have diffraction limit very close to maximum arpeture, as in a case with RX100 for example, where at f4.9 its already diffraction limited. This means that in order to keep the resolution of a smaller sensor, you need faster lenses. It is much harder to design a very fast lens, say f/0.85 for a 1″ sensor, and make it sharp wide open, than it is to make a f/1.4 lens for a FF sensor and make it sharp wide open. And guess what, that f/0.85 will be about the same size as f/1.4 on FF. And only that f/0.85 will give your camera an equivalent performance to FF as far as light gathering goes. That is due to an inherent lower light sensitivity and higher S/N ratio of smaller sensors.

          3. No I’m sorry but you are totally confused. The difference in area illuminated is still the same, the same amount of light comes though the lens (so football field analogy is completely false), the crop sensor only crops the useable area, (same light luminance) whereas full frame takes in the whole frame.

Does the f stop and shutter speed change for a given scene between crop and full frame, how about 8×10 view camera, now olympus Micro 4/3? No it does not. The crop sensor is cropping only the area allocated to the light, not magically letting in more light right ??

We are dealing with lenses to sensor planes here not flood lights in a field.

            yeah physics, look into it.

          4. I’m not saying that it’s letting in more light. The amount of light is the same.
If you try to illuminate an entire field at night with, say, a common flashlight, you won’t succeed. Try to illuminate a piece of paper instead, and the same flashlight will be sufficient.
You seem to be claiming that the amount of light per unit area is the same, therefore the larger sensor receives more light in total. I say that the total light is the same, therefore the smaller sensor receives more light per unit area, and thus are better illuminated.

          5. Not sure why I’m even wasting time with you? I never claimed a larger sensor receives more light. It receives the same amount of light.

quote from you: “The larger the sensor is, the more diluted the light gets”

quote from me: “The difference in area illuminated is still the same, the same amount of light comes though the lens”

Then another quote from you: ” I say that the total light is the same,”

So what is it? Just admit you really have no clue what you are talking about.

Also to continue with more error in your concept, smaller crop sensors actually require sharper lenses compared to larger sensors, hence it is well known that medium format lenses are not quite as sharp overall compared to 35mm lenses because they only need to resolve less over more total area (so less sharpness needed to resolve the same scene, larger pixels).

          6. What is it? It’s both. There is no contradiction. It’s exactly because the total light is the same, that it gets diluted if the sensor is larger.

Total light (over the entire sensor) / Sensor area = Light per unit area

Keeping total light constant and increasing the sensor area means that you decrease the light per unit area.

Think about this: you have a bucket full of paint. If you cover a 5 square meter wall with that paint, the layer of paint on every part of that wall will be thinner, than if you use the same amount of paint to only cover 1 square meter.

          7. You’re reasoning is correct in itself, but it just doesn’t apply to camera sensors. You use bad analogies. Illuminating a sensor is not the same as painting a wall with a certain amount of paint.

      2. Yes. Of course. Thats why iphone makes sharper and better pictures than hasselblad mf. Because of small sensor. And there is no light at all to stand in the way..

    3. The flange distance is entirely irrelevant to IQ. It simply gives the lens designer the freedom to place the lens elements close if required. But they can stick as much empty space as they like between the lens elements and the sensor.

What’s more important is how far the rear exit pupil is from the sensor. The flange distance tells you precisely nothing about any particular lens.

    1. If A9 has DSLR size body, 5axis IBIS, fast AF, large buffer, long battery life, 4k video
then i may think of jump ship to e-mount

      1. I will join if it has two card slots, reasonably fast low light AF and A77II (or better) LAEA adapter for my F2.8 zooms and 135mm. Native 85/1.4 would be an extra.

        1. Yea, that was my plan, then A7II came on with IBIS which is very tempting
i wait for sometime more to see what happens, hoping to see more price drops after Sony shows new bodies
my interest is bokeh/macro as a hobbyist

    1. If A5 is a cheap FF,
I guess it will use the old sensor, no IBIS, slow AF, poor EVF
Then, i would prefer the A7000

    2. A7 is very cheap I see no point in A5. Perhpas the original rumor meant A7 price dipping very low and it did….I would expect it to fall further.

  23. Really need the a7000 to be released asap. A6000 is nice but we need audio inputs/ headphone jack, 4k (or stunning 1080p) to be competitive.

        1. IBIS is the first and most important thing they should put in a7000. There is a lot of us who use legacy lenses on Sony, because Emount is still limited system. The only difference for me to upgrade from nex7 is IBIS, and eventually lower high ISO noise, but thats just a bonus.
Especially when you take into account that APS-C IBIS should be even better than the existing one on A7II, because of lower sensor mass. It could be insanely good

  24. No sign of a new Cyber-shot cameras like super or travel zoom eg. HX400/HX60 successor? A pancake A-mount Sony lens would be nice too.

  25. What i would like to see a a7000s lowish mega pixel count 16 to 18mpx, the ability to focus down to -3 ev a body similar to the x-pro 1 similar evf as the xt-1 same 1080p as the a7s weather sealed.

    1. Sony says it’s “High End” so I expect it will focus -3 EV focusing too, as A7s. Unless it’s only Sony marketing 🙂

      1. Really hope so. I’d also like to see an updated apsc lens line up. When I look at Fuji lens line up I kind of wet my pants haha

    1. I guess, the sony haters just have fewer and fewer straws to grasp at. cRAW seriously?…

Desperate nonsense :). Been shooting cRAW for like 5-6 years now with no complaints. I’ve stretched and tested RAW vs cRAW the difference is very hard to see even when pushing hard, and I’m a pixel peeper.

Check your photo technique / Raw processor and don’t believe that silliness. Nothing wrong with cRAW.

    1. Omg… 35/1.4 incoming, 55/1.8 available since a year, 85/1.x tba. If you need large lenses now, get LAEA. Sony needs a better body to stand against CaNikon.

  26. Samsong just patented a 2 layer sensor with an all green organic layer over a red/blue silicon layer.
This effectively doubles the sirface area of the sensor.
Samsong is not the only manufscturer with a drsighn like this..even Sony has one, but this indicstes that Samsung is a serious competitor and Sony wpuld be wise not to underestimate them.

    1. Yes, same here! I’d also love the A7Sii to include:
      – 5-axis IBIS
      – the ability to record video using the shutter button
      – unlimited recording time (limited only by the SD capacity
      – global shutter
      – S-Log2 at ISOs below 3200
      – same low-light performance as the current A7S

THAT would be an INCREDIBLE, UNBEATABLE camera!
