And here it comes the RX100 Hasselblad sketch!

No joke guys! Hasselblad will also do their own “interpretation” of the successful Sony RX100 camera! This sketch has been found by the dutch friends from DIGIFOTO Pro (Translation here). Peter Stig-Nielsen form Hasselblad confirmed to Digitfotopro that the 18-55mm and two other Sony NEX-lenses wil be re-branded as Hasselblad. On the stand were some Lunars equipped with 18-200mm and 16mm’s, without Sony logo, and not with other Sony E-lenses. Looks like they are going to rebrand those three lenses. Peter didn’t say anything about Hasselblad glass.

One more news: Hasselblad’s new business development manager, Luca Alessandrini will give an interview to Paul Genge at http://www.cameradiner.com today at 20h (19h london time)

Sony camera popularity: Even after all those new Sony cameras the RX100 remains the most popular Sony camera at Amazon US (Click here). Why? It’s a unique camera that satisfies the need for a maximum quality in maximum possible size reduction. And all that for a fair price.

    1. Shameless! ROTFLMAO!

They should market Hasselblad “cases” that bolt around ALL your favorite cameras. I’d love to screw together a cool Hassie shell around my little Cybershot HX30.

If the camera cost me $350 than what a Hasselblad case for it be worth?….what? about $1,200?

OMG,..what a great market for them!

The name “Hasselblad” will be worthless in 5 years.

      Way too damn funny!

  1. Let’s take bets on the price.
I’d say it will be squarely at 1,499 (USD/EUR).
    🙂
Also, have you people seen the pic of the back of the Lunar with FW screen which says NEX-7 v1.0?
It’s a case around a case by the looks of it …

Well, if the rx100 will follow the same design it will at least have a good grip.

    /me hides now

    1. Are you kidding? $1499 for a “hasselblad”?….no way man. That brand is worth far more than that. I’m guessing its over $2k. You can’t hand make a good case for a camera like that for much less. Especially considering that its a “hasselblad”.

    2. Remember they are not trying to rob people. I say $2500 for the one that looks like a running shoe, and maybe $2700 for the wooden golf club version.

      1. +10000

i bet this one will price $3000++ hahhaha

they want to robe rich people absolutely wkwkwkwkkw

let’s bet the next camera hessel is H-RX1 😀 let’s say the price is $5000 or $7000 😀

  2. I really really wonder why people here, who should love anything that broaden the support for sony and the e-mount, is going ape over hassy and spending each second ridiculing their project?

The start is a close relative of the nex-7. so what. they can price it whatever they want and i don’t give-a-damn. if that means there will be more lenses to compliment the name i’m thrilled. if it just means more e-mount users i’m thrilled.

Plus having hassy put their name on essentially a sony camera ought to show the confidence they have in the quality whatever markup they seem to want for the name.

  3. What’s funny is they added a significant grip, but didn’t shift the shutter button out the front of it. Clearly they haven’t touched the internals… this one is going to be awkward to use. Oh well, as my wife always explains to me when she gets blisters with her $300 high heels… fashion is pain.

  4. I am not sure to find all of this that funny.
There is just one think that Hasselblad headquarters don’t seem to understand : in their interviews, they argue about the quality and the cost of the materials involved in the Hasselblad Lunar. That makes sense, the only problem being that the associated IQ will be just the same as the one as the Sony Model for five times more money.
The other (obvious) problem is that it makes poor sense to invest that much money in a camera in the numerical area where a sensor is perceived as being obsolete after a couple of years : this is the realm of consumerism and Hasselblad just look like an old preacher arguing about the value of things, etc., when noone cares about.

    1. As for the image quality point – According to DxO: for high ISO shooting D600 outmatches much more expensive D4. For color depth my A77 is equal to 5D mk3 for less then 1/3 of the price… at one point Nikon got all the good sensors in it’s cheapest cameras which outmatched it’s high end gear quite easily in all respects.
You don’t pay for image quality alone (regardless of what Hassel offers or not). Camera is much more then just a sensor.

      1. “Camera is much more then just a sensor.”

Yes, definitely…. you only need to add a red ruby and a wooden grip!!!

  5. Hasselblad must at least improve the optics to prevent it from becoming a joke. Nevertheless, it is a blessing for A & E-mount Sony users with Hasselblad joining us.

  6. Just like Leica rebrands Panasonic cameras, Hasselblad rebrands Sony cameras. It may be hilarious but it kind of worked for Leica/Panasonic, so it may also work for Hasselblad.

  7. Look guys Nikon has Sony Sensor, and Canon has a cheaper and less quality sensor, but some how the images quality and the Sales go to Canon …. its all about how the brands use the Sensor…. AND Hasselblad knows how to make cameras !!!!!!!!!!

    1. It’s mostly about BRAND not the internals.

In the APS-C arena Canon and Nikon get the sales largely because of BRAND NAME. It’s why superior Pentax, Sony and other brand models don’t sell well in comparison, or even appear on the shelf.

I know many people who haven’t the first clue that Sony even make DSLR sized cameras. Go into your average camera shop and you’ll be pushed towards the Canon or Nikon models based on the bias of the sales person.

Somebody in the market for a Hasselblad will not care what the internals are. The vast majority of soccer moms buying Canon dSLRs don’t either, they just go for the brand name.

  8. Oh I can’t belive they are serious..
Please, let me know they take off the hat and say: We hope you enjoyed the show!
So funny.. and much more so funny from such a brand with high reputation!

  9. I think this one will sell like hotcakes, not like the Lunar model.
I am not saying it is worth the markup, only that there are people who will be swayed by the Brand name.
Shall be intersting how much Hassy dare markup the RX100.

On another note, yes it is not bad with such a large grip. But it is entirely a superficial skin-mod. The trigger button should have been moved to the front of the grip to fall right under the index finger. That they havent done that just shows how nothing will change on the inside of the camera.

  10. I love Hasselblad for reviving iISO. We want rebranded bejeweled HVL-F58AM to match.
(must be what the H stands for)

Sony whispers… “hmmm… who can we dump all our old shit on”?

  11. Yes don’t miss the show at 19:00!!!

Luca Alessandrini will explain, how to take bad decision and distroy a big company with a high reputation…..How to created bad designs and the best of all … How to think costumers are idiots and you can seld them what you want!!!!

  12. I want to know what tweaks they are doing to the camera for an improved image. If I don’t feel it’s worth the extra, then I won’t buy it. But their biggest mistake was taking the shortcut to the finish line, hiring the wrong artist or not giving us the specs to justify the price.

Oh, and if you’d had shaped it like a 501cm, you might have had something there. But I know you’re not because Samsung probably has a patent on it by now.

  13. I hope that Hasselblad, for Hasselblad’s sake, is doing more with these new cameras than “just” putting a pure vanilla Sony camera in a “nicer” container.

  14. As I knwow Hasselbald is a company with 200 employees – they produce around 5.000 cameras a year.

According to Wikipedia it’s owned by a private-equitiy-firm – so, they have to show their investors the “super-return”.

    Poor Hasselblad! 🙁

  15. I don’t get it! Hasselblad has always been know for their lenses! I understand them using a Sony sensor (film), which are great, but NOT Sony lenses. Am I missing something? I won’t even get into the design 😉

    1. yea… quite a bit. First of all – almost every single Hassel lens released was either re-branded or simply: other company glass. Previously it was Zeiss, now it’s Fuji. Hassel was known from cameras, not lenses.
And secondly Sony makes outstanding glass as well – some of NEX lenses are really great. Only Hassel picked the weakest of them to adapt for it’s own needs.

  16. This is what happens when you give the job to an Italian who wants to make his mark in the camera industry and try to write his name among leading Italian icons. In his mind, Mr Alessandrini must feel that he belongs to the great designers of the past century that shaped icons like Ferrari, Armani, Prada, Lamborghini and Renzo Piano to name a few. The man grabbed the Swedish company’s heritage and reputation and promised to give them a contemporary look with a bargain investment and that its all about the looks.

What the designs show is that he is clearly aiming and extreme tastes; most of which are found in Eastern Europe, Russia and the Middle East. Clearly, Hasselblad’s design is always about ergonomics in relation to the user (the 500 series were made by Viktor Hasselblad as a form to build a camera that could fit his hands) So this man does for Hasselblad what the Ferrari and Lamborghini models add to Asus and Acer (you have to try and find them); they add nothing meaningful, just a tacky shell with a premium price tag for the honour of using the brand.

He should be sacked. At least Leica did not dare touch Panasonic’s original design because it was good enough already. Sony has great designs and the attempt at creating something unique ended up with a rain of ridiculing comments from every possible angle.

    1. HB Management: “what are we going to do with this recent mirrorless market that just opened up?”

Luca Alessandrini: “Hey guys, I just landed here from Amsterdam and, I tell you, it was amazing. Anyways, I was doing 2kg rocks with my friend Cheech righ here and I got this amazing idea. We sign a contract to officially steal cameras from someone else and we pimp them out like there is no tomorrow.”

      HBM: “what?”

LA: “For real man, you know, no R&D costs, no manufacturing costs….just a couple of arts and crafts telented students in my backyard doing the skin that I will design”

      HBM: “ok, lets do it!”

      ***Two Weeks Later****

LA: “Hey men in suits and what not…check me out with my new super design Babilonia system I got right here. I call it…the Hassy Lunar, right Cheech?”

Cheech Marin: “Yeah man, its heavy”

LA: “We call it Lunar, from moon you know? because my friend and me, yeah? we were shooting up like there is no tomorrow and then we got to TO THE MOON MAN!!. I saw it there!! I was like…look, its Wall-E…he wants to give me a gift! And then, my friend Cheech got to talk to Wall-E sharing a spliff and shit, you know? and in the end, Wall-E was very grateful and he gave me the cam of your dreams, man”

      CM: “For real”

HBM: “Sounds dynamite. We go for it.”

      1. That does sound dynamite. It’d have more respect for them if that was how it actually happened.

More likely he’s the type of guy who makes a dopey grin and points at you excitedly with both index fingers while talking to you.

  17. the swoopy grips may be more ergonomic but they look like some kinda weird knock off camera, or a toy for a toddler. both the NEX-7 and RX100 look like image capturing devices (what they are) I personnally use my RX100 everyday, it rocks. The guys at Hassablad must have just found out about crystal meth its the only logical explanation, for me anyway I have to admit “Hassi” is out of my buget, I have owned shot with a Bronica system though. Maybe some rich collectors will buy these? whatever …. its not gonna hurt sony.

  18. Well, it looks like Sony is giving up trying to compete with the big names of Nikon and Canon by jumping over them using an even bigger professional name Hasselblad!

    Genius

Professional full-frame Hasselblad using Sony’s best sensors and Zeiss and Hasselblad A-mount lenses.

We are seeing just how good Sony’s sensors are in the new Nikons

    RIP Canon 2013

    Big win for Sony

  19. And why is this so relevant to us Sony users!? If I want to spend money on a compact-like camera, one will rather buy a Leica M-x camera, don’t you agree?

BTW, the design is luxorious, I wonder why they didn’t put some diamonds, and the usage of Sony lens is not understandable to me when H. is very good in lenses. Hm.

All I hope now is that Sony will enter the market battle with a 2100$ DSLT!

Comon Sony, or a D600 is not a losing pick for me (or others I guess). 🙂

  20. First I blushed in embarrassment, then I threw up in my mouth a little.

Best of luck “habblesad” (as I heard it referred too yesterday). Maybe there is some phantom unknown mysterious market of buyers with tons of cash lying around hiding like the Fremen on Dune or something.

    Who am I to judge.

    Carl G.

  21. If Panasonic can do it with Leica, I don’t see any reason why Sony shouldn’t be able to pull it off with Hasselblad…

  22. But you get a lot for the cash layout. Included in the price:

    1 –
A taste of what they’re smokin’.

    2 –
All buyers featured on the new “Hassy Dope” e.x.c.l.u.s.i.v.e. web blog…
…spin off of “Celebrity Mug Shots” and “People of Walmart”…
