Amazon just issued a note on both new RX cameras (RX100MII and RX1R). It says:
“Due to high demand we anticipate being unable to fulfill all customer orders with our first allocation. Product supply from Sony is very limited. Your place in line will be maintained, and we will not charge your credit card until we ship the product.”
To be honest I didn’t expect a “high demand” on the new RX1R.

same message they posted for PS4 lol
ps4 attracted millions of users just for the used games policies compared to the xbox one…of course they had to notify people of the limited supplies from Sony.
With cameras happens the same. Sony have limited supplies while Canon and Nikon don’t have to show up that message because they have a big supply chain.
gratz sony success on their RX camera. i hope i can gratz sony nexy year on their A-mount camera as well.
I am right there also, absolutely!
I’m glad this DSLR-priced RX100MII has touchscree… Oh wait.
Nevermind.
N00b alert!
Well, that high demand depends on how many units they have made.
The demand has nothing to do with anything, really. These cameras aren’t even available yet. They also never know how much they’ll really receive until they arrive. They’re sometimes given 100, other times just 10, sometimes never receive the initial shipment and have to wait for the next delivery cycle (1-3 weeks later).
They’re just saying that they probably won’t have enough to deliver it fast. Woopie. Don’t read so much into it.
The RX1R probably also sells well to the Hasselblad Lunar’s target group posing with both models while not caring for money anyway.
Amazon already knows how many cams they will get. The warning is a good sign.
Congrats, Sony.
Initial ORDER OF RX1R= 2 cameras…..LOL
Just to let you guys know: I pre-ordered the RX100M2 on SonyStyle.com on the same night it was announced, and I just received an email from them that the camera is on its way! I verified the order status and the status for the camera changed to “Processing”. Looks like Sony might already have some in stock.
Nice
Nice
Once it’s processing can you still cancel it? I wonder if it’s just going to go into processing status for a few weeks?
It is true what amazon announced.
And it was expected to have high demands on these 2 cameras.
When it all started, many of us stopped and said, lets wait for the reviews, comparisons. High price, not so easy to jump on it yet.
Early adopters and all the reviewers confirmed, both of theses RX cameras are excellent.
Rx100 being selected as one of the 50 best inventions of 2012 by times magazine, RX1 huge feedback from all the reviewers, opened the gate to the major market.
Yes, they will sell well. We just wait and witness.
Ah, toys for wealthy people
Nah. Go look at Leica (and Hasselblad). Those are toys for wealthy people. These Sony’s are toys for hard-working people who love photography.
Out topic: I just like to ask if there is a digital steady shot based on software or if we use the word steady shot by Sony its a hardware feature?
Peter
Not really that interesting, no viewfinder, no front grip they added the hot shoe and tilt lcd and jacked the price up.
The corollary of “demand” is “supply.” Amazon is simply saying that the demand generated by pre-orders exceeds Sony’s intended supply to them. It’s possible Sony underestimated demand, but it’s also possible that Sony is spreading a limited initial inventory amongst all outlets.
Yep – just like I said. 😉
