Sony will have a major lens announcement soon. Will publish details as soon as I am back home 😉

Teaser: it’s about the worlds lightest 400mm and 600mm lenses 😉

On September 8 Sigma will announce those two lenses:

A source now told me this:

The Sigma 85/1.2 will start shipping out on Sep 30 on and will cost 1600€

This means the lens is less expensive than the Sony 85mm f/1.4 GM II. Not bad!

Social Networks:

Reliable sources shared the specs of a new fully stacked sensor with same Dual Gain tech of the new Sony A7V, Sony A7rVI and Sony FX5.

26MP APS-C Sensor specs:
  • Resolution: 26 Megapixels
  • Frame Rate: 124fps
  • Pixel Size: 3.76μm
  • Type: APS-C stacked
  • Features: Voltage Domain GS, Pixel MEM in Logic-layer, DCG-HDR, Higher Saturation
  • Video Output: 6K120 / 4K120
  • Interface: SLVS-EC v3.1 4×1 / v3.0 4×2 / v2.2 6×2
  • Color: Mono/Bayer Color

While I am 99% certain this sensor will hit the market, it is unclear if it is going to be used in the future Sony FX30 II and Sony A6900.

I am just guessing that while this sensor makes perfect sense for the FX30 II where ultra-high resolution is not as critical.

I don’t know if it’s “enough” for the A6900. Fujifilm consistently uses 40MP sensors in their cameras, while Canon uses 32MP sensors. I know megapixels aren’t everything, but the current A6700 already has a 26MP resolution. After four years, the market might demand a higher-resolution version to compete with the rest.

What do you think?

Trusted sources (thanks!) have now confirmed that Sigma will announce these two new lenses on September 8:

The 85mm f/1.2 fills one of the few remaining gaps in the E-mount lineup. Sigma’s only real competitor is the new, MASSIVE Song Raw 85mm f/1.2.

The 20-60mm looks like a great lens for the masses—a compact hybrid for vlogging, photography, and filmmaking.

The third lens might be EPIC:

Back in April, reliable leaker How2Fly said this:

So far, however, none of my sources have been able to confirm it. At best, we might get some sort of development announcement, like Sigma did with the 85mm f/1.2 FE. But I truly hope this lens will be show on September 8. It would become the world’s fastest Full Frame autofocus lens ever made! And yes…likely to be big and heavy too 🙂

What is your bet…will this be a 65mm f/1.1 or a 65mm f/1.0?

See ya soon!

Adobe Camera RAW has officially added support for the yet to be launched new Sigma 85mm f/1.2 FE lens. This only means one thing: The lens will be officially launched soon!

The lens is already listed at BHphoto (Click here) with shipment scheduled for September.

I have to be honest with you: one of the sources who shared accurate Sony FX5 information told me that Sony has a host of new lenses that will be announced within a relatively short period. Now, HowToFly has shared the full list of engineering prototypes Sony is reportedly working on. It therefore appears that Sony could announce many new lenses within the next three to six months.

HowToFly writes:

Some Sony Lenses Currently Under Testing:
8-15mm Fisheye Zoom
600mm F6.3
400mm F4.5
28mm G
40mm G

*Specific release dates are currently unknown.
** These are all engineering prototypes. Specifications or naming conventions may be adjusted upon official release.

I can add that also the 16-28mm f/2.0 GM development has been done and could be the next lens announced by Sony. Now let’s dig into possible aperture info of some of these lenses:

So that’s all we know so far…with the 16-28mm f/2.0 probably coming in late summer or early fall and no new timeline for the other lenses yet. In the meantime let us all know:

In China Sony has registered two new microphone codes. Both these mic (WW38427 and WW81782) do support 32bit float audio. It’s near certainly a new generation of ECM-W mic (listed here at BHphoto) that is coming very soon.

Trusted sources just confirmed Sony will have one more product announcement event on August 4th!

For sure we are getting the new Sony 100-400mm f/5.6-8.0 FE lens. Key info: 899 Euro, lightweight, black finish.

I have no idea yet if also the 16-28mm f/2.0 GM or any other product will be announced. Stay tuned!

One small additional info about the new Sony 100-400mm FE lens that will be announced today. Howtfly reports:

Sony integrated the focus limiter switch (∞-3m) into the AF/MF switch on the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS..

Preorder links opening at 3pm London time today:

I got a last minute rumor about a new Sony lens. It’s the 100-400mm f/5.6-8 Full Frame E-mount lens! The lens is “lightweight”, comes in Black and has in lens stabilization.

Will be announced along the Sony FX5 on July 22!
