Wow. Sony really wants to kill off DSLRs with the A7R II.
$3200 body only?!! At these price levels, Sony Absolutely need to come up with professional-grade wireless triggers and speedlites (that don’t overheat) to attract more pro/semi-pro’s.
> Sony steals the Leica show
I LOLed, Admin.
It seems that Leica users have being highly disappointed with the just-announced Leica Q: it is not B&W and thus has inferior IQ! What Leica was thinking…
Would like to eventuallly see a comparison between the Sony RX10 M2 and the Panasonic G7 esp. for low-light video. Both are nice small(ish) packages.
$3200 for a PASM body? Stupidity is a force unto itself.
Wow ! Sony is definitely a company for “photographers” with G.A.S.
Four RX100 cameras in 3 years
Five A7 cameras in just over 2 years
I think Sony stole Canon’s show more than Leica. The 50MP 5DS seems archaic compared to the new A7rII.
The new sensors are really big news. I do not see how this relates to the Leica, though, since Sony did not provide an update for the RX1, Leica’s counterpart. Neither RX100 nor RX10 can achieve a shallow DOF, i.e. separate a subject well from its background; f2.8 on a 1inch sensor is like f8 on a full frame. To match Leica’s f1.7, a 1inch sensor would need f0.6.
The A7rII would compete more with the Leica M, which has arguably been outclassed in many respects by the original A7.
It stole the attention of bloggers, not mine. I personally find the Sony monster being of no interest to me, for what I need, for example.
In 6 months story will repeat, with a new A7s2, and the rumors of an A73.
I wonder how I could take photos in the last years…
WOW! I think Sony has zoomed past the competition with their new releases, specially the a7Rm2. Now for tilt/shift lenses and teleconverters etc. And we are onto a pro scenario!
A lot of people are wondering what is all the excitement about. I think for me the potentially game-changing feature is its compatibility with third party lenses, with phase detection autofocus. DPReview and Imaging Resource’s editors have tried the Canon 24-70 with Metabones adapter on the A7RII, and not only does the autofocus work, but they both say it is very fast. If you can combine Sony’s fantastic sensor with any third party lens (or even just Canon’s), with stabilization, you can understand why some people would be excited about this camera.
Yes, there are exciting aspects for some people, but nothing exciting for a lot of people. The BSI aspect is interesting, but not totally unexpected. And that apart, there is nothing really surprising. No revolution.
