Sony E-mount Full Frame is coming for high end camcorders only (for now)

So, it sounds like we will still have to wait a bit before to see the first “cheap Leica” Full Frame mirrorless. Sony is going to announce a new E-mount Full Frame camcorder that will likely cost a lot and be uninteresting for 99,9% of us poor photographers 🙂

Anyway there is hope that Sony may announce a sort of E-mount FF NEX-7 alike camera in 2013. But it still want be a fulfilled system as it is rumored that there want be any E-mount native Full Frame lenses. You will very likely need an adapter for Alpha or M Mount lenses. And current NEX lenses will work in crop mode. I don’t think that is a super tempting system. Would have been nice to have a full new system with native FF lenses included right from the start…

Let’s hope Fuji will do it…Fuji are you listening?

  1. When is everybody going to get over full frame fetish? Sony’s current subframe sensors have enough DR and high ISO performance for all but the most extreme conditions, and they’ll only get better. Sony’s current subframe sensors make FF just about irrelevant for the vast majority of users – FF just means much more bulk, weight and expense. Oh, and wank value, which I guess is what really matters in camera forums like this. 🙂

  2. to be honest im only interested in a full frame nex as an M mount digital back and i dont care the slightest bit about ff nex lenses might be like.

  3. There’s a high chance that the FF hybrid will have interchangable mounts, like a Ricoh GXR. Except with the FF sensor on the camera body.

And there’s nothing special about this, at first. Initially Sony will have the A-mount for native FF glass. But eventually, third parties could make full data communication mounts (if not motorized), for most lens mounts that exist.

  4. I would love to see faces of FF zealots, when they read this news. 😉
Do you really believe there can be a CHEAP FF system?

  5. Have you ever tried thinking?

It’s good bet that 35mm sensor cameras won’t ever become cheap compared to APS-C because manufacturing that much bigger semiconductor costs something like 10x times the price of APS-C sensor.
And mirrorless design removes lots of mechanical complexity of SLR and advances in semiconductor manufacturing allows electronics to become cheaper because of smaller size or less individual chips. Both of these mean that in the future sensor is only going to make even bigger part of total component costs.

Even whole 35mm size got chosen only because they could get that size film for cheapest price using film made for movie industry.
And only reason why 35mm stayed as standard until digital age was because in smaller size (like APS film) that analog technology just couldn’t perform well enough in resolution or sensitivity.

    1. Dude, you doesn’t seem to think as well. You’ve messed everything up with strange (in fact, wrong) implications and conclusions.

    2. So you’re challenging me, that means I get to choose place and weapons.
Let’s finish this like men if there’s any spine in you and your buddy Denis.

Time someone put some respect into you school bullies.
