Samsung also ends Camera Sales in UK!

Bildschirmfoto 2015-11-11 um 14.41.20

Photographyblog got an official info from Samsung UK:

“We quickly adapt to market needs and demands. In the UK, we have seen a gradual and sustained decline in demand for standalone digital cameras and camcorders and related accessories. For this reason, we have taken the decision to phase out the sales and marketing of these products. This is a local decision, based on local market conditions.”

Now a spoiler alert. I am working on an exclusive Samsung rumor. Stay tuned. As there is a huge surprise.

    1. Sure, already started (like 300-400€ off from NX1) if you want to buy a dead system?

So do not buy just a body, you need to buy all the lenses same time as soon they ain’t anymore on sale as people who have them will keep them, and you need to get what you want.

That will lead to situation that after few years there are lots of old NX1 systems on sale.

      1. Salespeople from Saturn/Mediamarkt store chain in Germany told me yesterday that Samsung informed them this week that NX-lenses will stay in production and can be ordered by stores for at least the three next years.

          1. Yeah, the guys say that lenses continue to be delivered to MM on 2b2 order but that the shipping times will be extended with respect to now. Basically, they do not seem to get much information from Samsung at all but they seemed pretty convinced on this.

  1. the only surprise at this point could be that they’re not exiting the camera market, and actually buying up Canon or Nikon.

        1. I personally don’t think they do a good job at marketing their cameras off-line. I’ve been in Best Buy many times and have seen reps in there for their tv’s, tablets, appliances, cell phones etc., but never for their cameras. I’ve never seen a commercial for one either.

    1. Samsung and Sony do not like each other.
That makes the possibility that Samsung sold to Sony the least likely of the possibilities.
Most likely Samsung has taken whatever action they beileve would most hurt Sony.
That makes some sort of deal with Canonor Nikon the most likely possibility.

      1. So could we get a re-badged NX1 with a Nikon sticker as Nikon’s entry into APS-C mirrorless? That way they could hit the ground running. And a gradual replacement of the camera software with Tizen?

Sounds good on paper, but this would be a Japanese company buying a South Korean one, that alone will create a lot of friction. And there would be so much to integrate: different lens communication protocols, different AF algorithms that are tuned for the given hardware. And while Tizen might be the best camera platform at least after another year or two of development, Samsung likely will retain a lot of Tizen in terms of human resources and other assets for them to be able to use Tizen in their other products. And Nikon taking over Tizen will likely cause it to wither, the same way Nikon let Capture NX wither.

        1. Samsung closed thier camera factory and is discontinuing Samsung camera sales in many countries.
If Samsong bought Nikon they would continue to make Nikon cameras and lenses with Samsung sensors inside.
A new line of mirrorless Nikon cameras would probably come out, but I think actual Samsung cameras are done.
That is of course IF Samsung buys Nikon imaging division.

          1. I was thinking of the opposite, Nikon buying the still camera business from Samsung (or more likely some intellectual assets). But the problem is: you can buy the source code [for in-camera software] but you cannot buy the programmers, at least the latter is much harder if you add different nationalities and languages, Japan and South Korea not being the best buddies and most importantly, that software (and thus the programmers) being used in several divisions of Samsung.

          2. Nikon has been suffering with drastically reduced sales.
They probably do not need more still camera production capacity…they could however use an in house source of sensors.
I think Samsung could possibly afford to buy Nikon imaging, but I do not think Nikon can afford to buy Samsung sensor division.

        1. Samsung took away tv dominence from Sony, and specifically targeted e mount cameras with their mirroess camerss.

  2. I am sure glad I sold my Samsung NX1 w/ 16-50 S lens package on eBay in light of this news. If Samsung thinks this is the solution, I am never buying another Samsung product again.
