New Panasonic, Sony and Samsung mirrorless cameras and lenses to be announced soon!

The leaked Panasonic GF5

We had a good new product announcement start in 2012 with the new Olympus E-M5 and Fuji X PRO 1 cameras. And within the next two weeks also Panasonic, Sony and Samsung will announce new mirrorless cameras and lenses. In Early April I expect the announcement of the new Panasonic GF5, a new m43 Panasonic camcorder a new Sony NEX-F3, a new NEX camcorder, probably a new NEX lens and finally the new Samsung NX-20. Of course there is still room for more surprises (maybe a Nikon 1 high end model?). And on May 10 the new product release party will continue with the highly expected Leica announcement. I really hope the B&W sensor rumor is true. But than I have to go back to reality and admit that even if a camera like that will appear I expect the price to be insanely high. Would love if Sony, Samsung, Nikon or the m43 partners would put a sensor like that on a cheaper camera!

  1. > and finally the new Samsung NX-20.

I wonder if they did something about the RAW size, or alternatively about the OOC JPEG quality.

To me that would be the release which would tell: do I need to look out for Sammy ILCs or not. They started pretty good and at the right time, but though the years, they seemed to be very stretched out. If they have invested the past year fixing at least the problems as highlighted by DPR NX10 or NX200 review, they might still have a chance IMO.

  2. A new “high end” Nikon 1???

With a newer, even higher end price?

What exactly are we talking about here?

  3. Canon will slap the GX1 sensor in a smaller Rebel-ish body and charge $800. Easy to predict. Canon moves with the predictability of the British red coats of 1776. Samsung just never seems to brand and promote their cams. Fuji is hitting design themes perfectly a Olympus is keeping close pace with them. Sony made an error with their design by refusing to go smaller with the sensor. Now their stuck with bigger lenses. Panasonic works hard to keep releasing product perhaps confusing the market a but too much. But I love their lenses…Panasonic knows how to make compact lenses. The there’s Nikon the 1 series and their relentless ashton Kutcher dunce advertising. I hope they dont use him for European and other markets. Pentax had a good mirrorless chance and blew it with their lego cam. My Takumars dont deserve to be seen on that.

  4. I think the reason why Samsung will (probably) never be a key player in the EVIL market is simple, brand recognition. Sony and Panasonic had already and are the only ones out-side the photo world to have some credentials in the video world. I own 2 GF cameras and will have the Nex 7 next week, but it took ea couple of years to be convinced by these two about their expertise. It is not so good for a camera to share its name with a fridge. I only took the plunge because of lack of offers from Nikon or Canon. That said, I know I am a bit sobish, but I miss having a Nikon (serious)mirrorless camera!
