That takes long! The NX20 has been leaked here and there for months now. But now we are really close to the announcement and one of my top sources just sent me a list of info about the camera. Here it is:
“The max shutter speed is 1/8000 and 8fps (full resolution), just like some medium level DSLR.
It definitely has a better buffer and processor.
WiFi connection is a WiFi Direct, so it can be connected to any WiFi Direct device like tablet, smartphone, TV or laptop without a router or internet.
It has a mode C (custom) on the main dial.
The first shutter curtain is a electronic one, in that way the shutter lag is almost imperceptible.
ISO 100 – 12800 with a excellent response at ISO 6400, I would say a little better than NEX7.
The EVF is excellent, I have been trying the NX20 and NEX7 and they look very similar in size and quality.
The Body is a little heavier and with more volume than NX10, I tried it with the 60mm Macro lens and the balance is much better than NX10.
The final camera could have an external mic jack, HDMI and USB ports and any other changes.
My conclusion is this camera has many thing of a medium level DSLR but in a smaller body…“
Samsung is facing a tuff time with their NX system. They have some great lenses and some super technology. Their main problems are the no-name in the camera history and the average sensor quality. I hope the NX20 can at least get rid of the last “problem”. Better than NEX-7 sounds good! 🙂

it’s “tough”, admin.
Sensor quality is no problem anymore, it’s comparable to Sony’s. The specs look all like good news…
did samsung hired Marc Newson for this?
There is some flaws with samsung, like their raw size, with almost 50Mo. You are also stuck with Samsung lenses, no other compagny like sigma, tamron make lenses for this camera. And it’s not a widly avalaible camera, lenses are hard to find in general stores.
In my eyes, the “main problem” of the NX-series is the puzzling decision of Samsung to choose the too long flange back distance of 25.5mm.
If it is too difficult or impossible to use M-lenses (27.8mm) via adapter, for me the camera-system has a hard time to be even discussed.
Pentax did the same a couple of weeks before. Mysteriously the waiver of a potential market segment.
Or: the camera has some unique and extraordinary specs, that a conversion of the mount (like http://www.sigmacumlaude.com/)would be interesting.
just buy a m mount for your nx samsung if you want to use leica lenses..

Sounds promising.
Its already better than the NEX, since sonys nex lenses suck….
PLEASE, Samsung, PLEASE add some sort of focus peaking for legacy lenses. It’s really needed in the NX series and it’s a big lack, when compared to NEX.
“average” sensor quality? “problem”?
to whoever wrote this article, thanks for the laugh.
The problem with the NX system is that as the cameras were launched, they were always a step behind the competition.
First it was the IQ, but you also have some laggy-slow-processor- problem, buffer’s problems, the video wasn’t on par with the others and so on. When you enter late in the market like that, you have to come ready.
That said, Samsung is doing an awesome job with the lenses AND lenses selection, nice fast primes, macros, etc. Sony should really learn with Samsung how to choose which lenses to produce, seriously. And the optical is as bad as Sony’s.
I hope they can solve most of the problems and create some competition, if they can do it, they will be fine, but you really have to exceed to make it successful.
*And the optical is NOT as bad as Sony’s.
Plus I like the fact that Samsung tries to push innovation with the iFN button, WiFi, etc…
Samsung had so much potential. I’ll be surprised if they’re still making higher end cameras a year from now.
Samsung are new and has lots to prove. Comparing to Sony they understand better the need for HQ lenses (at the right focal lengths) in a system. Sony have an advantage in sensor and maybe processor department.
Samsung and Sony are both giants in electronics and if the decide to enter camera business, they will very likely succeed.
Samsungs NX “dslr-style” are nice to use. The image quality is not yet there it needs to be.
The NX200 became a flaw due to no EVF solution. This one is a complete camera. It will be, I guess, a lot cheaper than competitor’s offerings. A chance for many on not so high camera budget to have a really good camera!
Personally I have now tested the Fuji X-pro1 twice – will buy one when it is supported by Lightroom. No other camera fits my photography better and it is a joy to work with.
Beside the setlens, I exclusively use my “old” Contax/Zeiss lenses on NX 11 via an Novoflex adapter. This is a quite satisfying and cheap solution, until now. Shortcomes are: noise at high iso und the small EVF. Bodysize, button layout, menue structure, speed (jpeg), white balance are pretty good. In my opinion better, than many others. Focus with EVF and high speed lenses (f 1,4-2)is aready fine.
Wish the NX 11 to have:
– much better high iso noise
– much better EVF
– black/white modus with yellow/orange/red/green “filters” directly in camera, even in RAW
– focus peaking in manual mode
– body price under 900 €, no bundle with setlens please
Then i will buy it in an instant. IQ hasn´t to suceed NEX 7/Fuji X1 Pro, NEX 5n range is quite enough.
For me, I don´t see the need for an “professional” system, but for an afordable body with great EVF, very good IQ and the possibility to use non system lenses.
There are so many beautiful, manual legacy lenses out there from Zeiss/Leica R/Nikon/Olympus/Minolta/Canon that I strongly suggest to give the NX 20 an decent look.
We all are excited by Leica M lenses on NEX or manual Voigtländer on
m43. Zeiss/Leica R/OM/Nikon on Samsung is as good and even better, when you go Tele/Macro/ZOOM.
Regards
As a NEX-7 owner, I wish Samsung luck and hope the nx20 does well. Sony needs a direct competitor, and Samsung is it.
> …WiFi Direct, so it can be connected to any WiFi Direct device like tablet, smartphone, TV or laptop without a router or internet.
So now they invented marketing name for ad-hoc network… and proper tethered shooting with SDK for interface would be bigger technical point than fashion gimmicks.
And like all mirrorless cameras NX20 seems to lack some of the most important parts of medium level DSLRs:
Front and rear dial UI for efficient aperture/shutter speed/exposure compensation changing and used also in combination with buttons for directly activating change of important settings without going into on screen menu hell.
BTW, Samsung is one of the big players in various displays so would be weird if they didn’t want to challenge Sony in EVF’s quality.
We can see that Samsung starts to play very seriously in mirrorless market.
If all that stuff is real and mcuh cheaper than Sony and Fuji, than Samsung will get easily a good market share with a proper marketing campaign.
Wish I can afford Samsung NX20 one day, it look really promising.
When the NX200 came out I made a post on dpreview saying that Samsung ought to put flipscreens on their cameras to attract a wider audience. I am happy to see that the NX20 seems to have one. Certainly a camera I would buy if it does.
